Good Morning,
While we are out in the field, relaxing, I always like to share a bit of ‘GIRL TALK’ with my friends. I spent some time yesterday afternoon visiting with them about their ‘personal plans’. I was wondering if their families had reviewed their breeding options with them like mine did with me.
We all have our thoughts…and obviously our pedigrees, body types, and personal histories are very different…so these factors do significantly influence WHO we can DATE! It is kinda’ fun to be chit-chatting about all of this with my friends. We are MAIDEN MARES. That is the term for mares who have not been bred before….so we have TONS to talk about with each other.
At Barn 55, while out grazing, we talked about staying fit, our training programs, our races, and all of the various fun projects we were involved in each day! NOW….the conversations are so different. At this time, it is my GIRLY-GIRL side that is really coming to the fore-front! I am truthfully so feminine at heart…and I’m having fun developing this side of my personality as well.
It is interesting how we go through different STAGES in our life. I’ve been a weanling, yearling, racehorse (HORSE OF THE YEAR…a real WOW…if I say so myself—-BLUSH, BLUSH), and now I’m going to be a broodmare. A MOM!!! This is so exciting! Once I get this under control…what will be next???? I just LOVE THINKING ABOUT MY FUTURE and ALL THAT IT HOLDS!
Some of you have asked, what is John’s favorite name for me? IT IS ZENNY. John always calls me this. It is always expressed in such a loving tone…and definitely meant to be a TERM OF ENDEARMENT!
Off to play and chit-chat with my friends and discuss lots and lots of GIRL STUFF!! We are having FUN!
With Love,
HUGS TO ALL~

Hi Zenny! Soooo…it’s gonna be Bernardini!! How did Mike take this news? You know his feelings! Nobody is worthy to breed with you! Make sure you tell Dottie I said Thank You! for keeping us up-to-date on the things you want to tell us! She’s the best!

Awww. Zenny, such a sweet post. Yes, girl talk is important and you maidens can all support each other on your first date! Bernardini is so happy to be the chosen one – he said so himself on his fb page :)
Did anyone tell poor Capone yet? I hope there is a perfect girl for him…
You will be a great mom!
Diana
Wow, Bernardini. What a pleasant surprise this must be for you Zenny! I bet he begged his daddy A.P. Indy to let him have the chance to woe you! He’s easy on the eyes but those eyes will be bugging out of his head when he sees you! Don’t forget to play coy at least a little. Remember, you are a Queen!
Sandra Frey
Oh, Zenyatta! Bernadini is a tall drink of water, sister! You will have a BEAUTIFUL foal with him. Continuing to follow your incredible story. You rock, Zenyatta! xoxo

Precious Z-
I am walking on air. So thrilled that I have actually met “the one” and can wholeheartedly approve! When we were at Darley, he came up to the fence to meet us. I think you will find him most engaging.
Maybe when you are there, you can see your daddy again. Love you always.
P.S. Oh, the lucky people who bought your Moneigh!!
Laura
I love the updates and educational information, I’m sure a lot of people do, but I’m really put off by the use of the word “dating” in reference to breeding. Very inappropriate. We like learning about the horse industry and are excited to hear about what our Lady Z is up to.. but please, don’t make me cringe when I hear the word “date”
Alyssa
I can’t wait to see what your and B’s foal looks like and what it accomplishes on the track! Hope you have fun on your “first date” :]
Lauren
Dear Zenny – Congratulations on choosing your first date…. . He is quite a handsome horse with a wonderful bloodline. I am sure you and Bernadini will have a beautiful foal. By the way Zenadini is a great name for the baby.
Love and Kisses

Wonderful news for our “Queen Z”! I think your date is a pretty awesome one! Bernardini….he’s got some good blood in him. That’s a great choice by your family, I’m sure they searched long and hard to make the best decision for you. You must be one happy girl, soon to be a mama. Keep us posted with all the excitement that is about to happen. :)

Zenny is my favorite nickname, too! Bernardini is an excellent choice. Now all we have to do is WAIT. That will be the hard part!

Here’s to a successfull breeding, an easy pregnancy and foaling and a smart, fast filly or colt. Zenny take care of yourself. We love you

Dear Z,
Your loved ones chose very well for you. Bernardini is a great match for you. He has great conformation, predigree and a terrific racing record. He is also very handsome and I think the dosage of your foal will be just right. His mom is a beautiful gray who also had a very good racing career. I also like the fact that he is only one year older than you. Love to you and the Team. Judy and Russ

Zenyatta and Bernardini = PERFECT FOAL!

Waiting for a colt: Zendini or a filly: Bernyatta. And all you girls can have your foals play together – sweet!
Debi
I’m so glad to hear that John calls you Zenny! That is my favorite name for you also! And YES!! You are such a girl!! (as I like to say)
All you girls should have a good time girl-talking, with great expectation for the future!!

@ FRAN,
.
Zenyatta will be vanned over to Darley, be bred, then come right home. No need for her to stay there. She’ll be back in her own paddock within an hour or two (depending on the drive).
.
I’m sure THAT will be an interesting conversation with her ‘gals pals’ when she gets back, LOL. “He jumped on your back and did WHAT to you?!?” ;-)
linda
Dottie,
You handle these topics with such grace, charm and wit – a pleasure to read.

Boy! I sand corrected a couple of ways, all which comes from the dreadful college French: Deana Dameron is right & the Kennedys, plus ??? else] — ‘Eblouissante’ IS ‘dazzling’ . .. ‘Vertigineaux’ IS more from vertigo than dizzying [except as in speed], and for further references, before I write, better have a text in hand. Merci` for the corrections, to everyone else I can`t now locate .. . We need an index! Thrilled about Bernardini.

I so approve you meeting Bernardini – check out those impressive bloodlines. He has Northern Dancer the Sire of Sires of the twentieth Century. Then there is Bold Ruler who also had a good track record. What a beautiful foal that would turn out to be!!! Hope the date goes well, if not give him a peace of your mind .. lol Kisses to you Queen Z

‘s-t-and’ [sp.^] . .. lord, I`m having a drink, toasting the pair of them, then out to dinner to celebrate. `Night, all.
Janet Cutting
Congrats Zenyatta !!! Whatever name your baby gets– too many good ones!!!- if is a little girl-Ill refer to her as “little Z” . Also, will you and your mare friends still live together and have the same rountine after babies come along? I am not familiar with how mares get along together with their babes. Take care,Janet C
Ann Maree
Hi, Z, well, congratulations! I understand you now know something about what’s coming up soon for you. Best wishes for the very best in your “engagement”! Bernardini has a beautiful name — maybe your foal could be named “Zendini” or “Zenardini”.
You might want to remind Dottie or Ann to update your Fun Facts to include your latest honors: The 2010 Horse of the Year, and the Secretariat Vox Populi awards! Wow, you certainly have a very impressive resume! One thing I was struck by is your racing career was 3 times longer than every horse in your immediate horse family! I sure hope you pass all your endurance and durability genes on to your progeny. So many horses nowadays don’t stay around long enough to get to know them like we have gotten to know and love you! Let us know when the big day occurs. I’m sure your people family will be very anxious until everything safely happens. We will be, too. Hugs. Your friend, Ann Maree

Know Bernardini`s barn/pet name, anyone?

You being so hot, a younger man is right for you! Z and B are considered an AA+++ match. Very cute. Big love to you Z.
Lois Brooks
Well Zen we now know your date. Did not even think about Bernadine as my mind was on Malibu Moon. Maybe baby #2 with him as he is a proven AP Indy stallion. Good luck with your date.
