Good Morning,
While we are out in the field, relaxing, I always like to share a bit of ‘GIRL TALK’ with my friends. I spent some time yesterday afternoon visiting with them about their ‘personal plans’. I was wondering if their families had reviewed their breeding options with them like mine did with me.
We all have our thoughts…and obviously our pedigrees, body types, and personal histories are very different…so these factors do significantly influence WHO we can DATE! It is kinda’ fun to be chit-chatting about all of this with my friends. We are MAIDEN MARES. That is the term for mares who have not been bred before….so we have TONS to talk about with each other.
At Barn 55, while out grazing, we talked about staying fit, our training programs, our races, and all of the various fun projects we were involved in each day! NOW….the conversations are so different. At this time, it is my GIRLY-GIRL side that is really coming to the fore-front! I am truthfully so feminine at heart…and I’m having fun developing this side of my personality as well.
It is interesting how we go through different STAGES in our life. I’ve been a weanling, yearling, racehorse (HORSE OF THE YEAR…a real WOW…if I say so myself—-BLUSH, BLUSH), and now I’m going to be a broodmare. A MOM!!! This is so exciting! Once I get this under control…what will be next???? I just LOVE THINKING ABOUT MY FUTURE and ALL THAT IT HOLDS!
Some of you have asked, what is John’s favorite name for me? IT IS ZENNY. John always calls me this. It is always expressed in such a loving tone…and definitely meant to be a TERM OF ENDEARMENT!
Off to play and chit-chat with my friends and discuss lots and lots of GIRL STUFF!! We are having FUN!
With Love,
HUGS TO ALL~

It is possible that The Sherrifs and Mosses will be there if not in the shed
before and after. This is a big step in
Zen’s life and they seem to feel it is important for them to be there to support
her through. I think John was evaluating
her conformation and taking pictures to look at to help chose a mate after the Eclipse HOY award. Ensign has a lot of great information.

So when you say your GIRLY-GIRL side is coming to the fore-front and that you are truthfully so feminine at heart, is that another way of saying that you’re MARISH?? HA HA (I have two mares, so I know exactly what *that* means!). Congratulations on your date with Bernardini. I remember his win in the Preakness. And he’s so gorgeous too (I’m a sucker for dark bays). Maybe your foal will inherit your blaze!
Debbie
oh you, so adorably girly, love you Z!!!xo
Jenna
I like that Mr. Moss has already said he will not sell this foal. Every ounce of news I hear makes me happy, I must say.

Bernadini is one lucky stallion.
I am kind of disappointed they picked a stallion with such an anemic race record compared to Zenyatta’s.
But he is a handsome devil, no doubt about it, and he has a fantastic bloodline.
Bernadini only raced 1 year, but he was perfectly sound when he retired.
Also, his foals have shown they can run on dirt and grass. Zenyatta could race on both dirt and synthetics, so it should be a good cross.
Break out the champagne and candles!

The suspense is killing me Zenny! I can’t wait to hear about your boyfriend…or stallyfriend! haha! Love ya!! :D

I give you all props for the diary postings. I am in marketing, but I find myself buying into the whole talking with the horse thing. Fabulous really. I put on a really large event out at HP, so I have everything Zenyatta that they produced out there from the marketing events staff.
Patricia
@Jenna-where did you read that the Mosses will keep Zen’s foal? This is fantastic news. I had a feeling this may be the case. They deeply love & appreciate their Zenyatta & one would think her offspring as well.
THanks
Sally (B)
P.S. oh, and of course some Guiness!! Can’t wait for your next post.

Thank you for your thoughts. That is why I asked–know it would probably be unusual (John attending) under normal circumstance, but we’re talking The Queen. And now that I hear they will be keeping this “one”, I suspect this could be a reality, especially since it will be taking place elsewhere.

Now for my emotional thought–I’ve educated myself in the basic breeding process (via youtube) and did see and now know what a lip chain and hobble mean. My question (i know it sounds silly)—-but when they hobble the mare, could it still be dangerous for them to be hobbled if they try to kick OR is it physically impossible for them to kick? I noticed in a (youtube) segment, that the mare while being hobbled and mounted, looked like she was having trouble standing.
Thank you in advance for you response :)

@Livey,
The farm managers are very experienced and Zenyatta is too intelligent, I’d be very surprised if she were to try to kick while hobbled.
ENSIGN
Agreed on what L stated.
.
I’d not be surprised if a little ‘Ace’ (tranquilizer) was given to help aid that calm as well.
L
@ENSIGN,
Ahhh yes, a little ‘cocktail’ with her Guinness. ;)
ENSIGN
LOL, indeed L! Cheers!

Hi Zenny, I’m so glad you are enjoying you time with your girl friends out in the fresh air. Love you sweet heart, with lots of love and hugs.
Janet Cutting
Hi everyone, and I too am glad ensign and our other “pros” are out there sharing their knowledge. I DO HAVE A QUESTION: bout how many foals are born every year –I am not one of horse knowledge, but it sounds like a lot of babies are born at the farms– do all of these horses get sold at auction ,go on to race other careers? thanks, Janet C–I am very excited for Z and her family!!!!

ZENNY, ENJOY YOUR TALK TIME WITH YOUR GIRLFRIENDS. I LOVE YOU Z LOVE LORI XOXO…

@ALICIA–your tall dark handsome thoroughbred is brilliant!!!

Zenny is a wonderful name for John to call you – very much a term of endearment. John Henry had a nickname too that Ron gave him…it was “Pappy”. I just finished his biography and am reading Seattle Slew’s at the moment….one day, sweet girl, you will have your own biography written and it is going to be awesome! Have a good day! xoxoxo

Good evening Zenny. Either you don’t miss the track or you are putting up a great front. Girly, girly chat is the best! Rock on Zenny!
Paul
Zenyatta, congratulations on your new boyfriend. Your girlfriends may very well be jealous of you. I wish you luck in the future and hope that the boyfriend treats you well. You are a very special horse and you deserve the best.
