Happy Sunday Everyone!
Yesterday I commented that John and I spent some wonderful quality time together 1 to 1 when my CA FAMILY was visiting me last week. He took some distance photos for you so you could see my paddock. In this one, I am on the far right. As you can see, we have a wonderful, large paddock to run and play in together. It is very spacious and located in a place on the farm where we can see everything going on around us. The view is absolutely spectacular. As you know, I love to stand and look at my surroundings for hours at a time…just like I would do when I was out grazing at Barn 55. So this is very pleasing for me! I can see everything…everywhere! I feel like I am at a beautiful resort!
Then my dear John took some photos of ME. He simply can’t resist checking me out and feeling my legs…as he has done for years every single morning. I was a great sport…and let him do it. He really thought I looked fabulous and very healthy. Even though I’ve gained some weight while here…John thought I was ‘wearing it beautifully’. As always, he was full of many wonderful compliments for me! JOHN sure knows how to make ME feel special. I loved seeing him again!
My dear John did note, though, that I had a bit of a scratch on my one hip. I’m fine…just playing around in the field with my friends. It is all just part of having FUN! I do enjoy all of my free time and running free. It is a very special time for me in my life now! I feel so fortunate in so many ways!
Well, only a few more hours until GAME TIME for MY JETS! I want to be right up-front and watching when they KICK OFF! Oh, I do love my SPORTS! Dottie was telling John and I this morning that I was on ESPN. They were doing a segment on different achievements in different sports…and I was mentioned for my 19 for 20 record! Too cute!
Enjoy your day.
With Love,
Hugs to all~

Oh, Zenny…sorry about those Jets. I was rooting for them right along with you.

Zenyatta/Dottie…John said it right when he said his life has been like living a fairy tale since you came to his barn. May I add that I guess it takes a village to live out a fairy tale. Through you, I have gotten to meet John and the crew twice, yet feel as if they are lifetime friends! The joy is unending. An example is my 18 year old cat had to be put to sleep today after suffering a stroke, but I am bearing it well, thanks to you and ur marvelous team. Hope you all know how far spread your humble kindness reaches. As a 72 year old lifelong horseman, you all have given me and my daughter Kelley a boost in our life we never knew existed!!! Thank each and all the members of Team Zenyatta for their class and compassion. I was never quite sure what I was seeking as I worked 365 days a year on the race track since I was 14…until I met you and your gang. At that moment, it all became clear to me…God Bless you Zenyatta, Dottie, John, Mr./Mrs. Moss, Steve Willard, Mario & his wife, and everyone else in Barn 55 South, for bringing this ole trainer and his angel daughter endless happiness <3

DEAR QUEEN ZENYATTA, I COULDN’T SLEEP. I READ YOUR POST EARLIER TODAY. I LOVED THE PICTURES JOHN TOOK OF YOU—YOU DO LOOK HAPPY, BUT THE SCRATCH JOHN FOUND ON YOUR HIP HAS BEEN BOTHERING ME. ARE YOU REALLY GETTING ENOUGH HUGS, KISSES, PATS, TALKING TO? THE THOUGHT OF YOU GETTING HURT IN ANY WAY BOTHERS ME TO THE UTMOST. YOUR FOLKS LOVE AND CARE FOR YOU SO MUCH–AS DO YOUR FANS I’VE GOT TO QUIT READING BLOODHORSE, BECAUSE I READ ABOUT WAR PASS PASSING AND THEN A BROODMARE HAD TO BE PUT DOWN THEY SAY BECAUSE OF AGE–ALL AT LANES END FARMS. DOTTIE PLEASE REASSURE US THAT ZENYATTA IS BEING TREATING IN THE MANNER SHE IS ACCUSTOMED TO. I STILL CAN’T SLEEP. WAITING TO HEAR FROM YOU. XOXOXOX

My Sweet Lady Zenyatta, Thank John for taking the wonderful photos and Thank Dottie for posting them. Your paddock is so nice & large and you & your girlfriends are very lucky to live at a horse resort. I can just imagine you standing there and taking in all your surroundings. After working in the medical field for 25 yrs. and having to be inside all the time in the O.R., I too can relate to taking a deep breath, relaxing & taking in the scenery for the sheer beauty of it and letting my mind rest. Zenyatta, you just look fabulously healthy, beautiful coat and most of all happy!! I don’t worry about you adjusting to your new life as I once did. Land’s End has done a wonderful job helping you make the transition with the help of The Mosses & The Sherriffs telling them all the things that you were used to doing. I like the fact that John can say your name, you turn & strike a pose for him. Your friends look great too with you. I am so glad you have girlfriends to talk to. That’s so important. Dottie, will you ask Zenyatta how they get her to come back to the barn? Does she come when called or does she and her friends play jokes on Charles and pretend they don’t hear him and go hide? Or is it the old carrot trick? Dottie, will they take away the beer when it’s time for Zenyatta to breed? I worry about her foal and it’s developement if she stills get one a day. I know it’s not a lot because of her size but I was wondering about that. What will they change in her routine when she’s pregnant? Will she get to play outside or is there a period of time she has to be inside until she a couple a months along? I just want to know all about her because I love Zenyatta so much. She’s a friend that I keep up with by reading her posts. Thanks so much Dottie! I look forward to your answers. Zenyatta, Hugs & Kisses From Alabama With Love, Amanda G

Bob, that was beautiful.
Zenyatta you look beautiful as always. Please thank Mr. Shirreffs for sharing his photos with us. Please thank Dottie for taking the time to help you with your diary and for the frequent posts. It brings joy to so many of us daily…and when times are rough gives us something to cling to. You are so Special!
You brought me joy today.Of course I am still jumping the moon that you won Horse of the Year….I love you!

enjoy the new life. you’re looking great!! I wear your 13 for 13 hat all the time…i watched you win the classic in 2009 while wearing it.

What beautiful photos! Zen, you look so majestic and just beautiful! John sure took some amazing photos! Thanks for sharing them with us! I’m sure that your warm coat keeps you warm, as you continue to graze. What fun!
Melissa
Your looking great Queen Z. Can’t wait to find out what lucky stud you will get to visit. Have a ball on the farm, you look like you are definitely enjoying yourself.

I, too, am a Jets fan & was discouraged when they fell 24 points behind at halftime. They charged back in the second half, as you did in all of your races, but they fell short by 5 points at the end. Missing by a head in the Classic didn’t tarnish your chanpionship year & today’s loss for the Jets shouldn’t diminish the great year that the team had. Maybe next year will be their Super Bowl year. GO JETS!!
I’ve been a racing fan for nearly 60 years. My first love was Swaps, who won the Kentucky Derby in 1955, & his picture hung on my bedroom wall for years. I saw many greats over the years at Santa Anita & Hollywood Park, but none were as impressive as you were on the track or as endearing off the track. I now live in Oregon, but I saw every one of your races (the 2009 Vanity & 2009 BC Classic in person)& I have the video of the first 14, but I don’t need it because all 20 of your races are vividly ingrained in my memory & can be recalled at a moments notice. I know now you are the greatest horse I will ever see in my lifetime – on & off the track. Keep the posts coming so I can follow the lives of you & your babies for the rest of my life. Stay safe, healthy & happy, Zenyatta.

Thank you for the link Zenyatta Tribute: Heart You Tube. Just watched it. Goose bumps and crying (again). The last quote on the video, “She ran like one of the greats” (referring to Breeders Cup Classic 2010). That’s because SHE IS ONE OF THE GREATS. Thanks again.
Linda
Nancy L – Thank you for a Denman Trevor Clip – It was un—-be—–lieve—able. Another wonderful tribute to Zenyatta.

You know I love you, Zenyatta, but I bleed Black and Gold. Go Steelers.

You are a beautiful girl. I have followed you from the beginning and have always known you were a special horse. I am so glad you are enjoying your well-earned retirement. Thanks to John for the pictures. I miss your prancing and winning, but you continue to win in my heart.
Georgette
Z, you look beautiful as always. Love your pictures. Sorry about the Jets, but I told you the Steelers would win.

Lady Z, I’m so glad the view is so breathtaking. Just wait till spring when it turns green and the trees leaf out. There will be so much going on, I’m glad it is a big paddock. You and your girl friends can enjoy. Tell John thanks for all the beautiful pictures. I know when racing season starts in ernest he is going to be so busy and won’t be able to get away so often but maybe Jerry and Ann can come see you and take pictures. You are so blessed to have such wonderful people who love you. I can’t get over how regal you always look and you have the most beautiful legs in the whole world. When you do that one little dressage move where they cross over I just know you would have been the queen of dressage also. Stay warm and enjoy I’m waiting anxiously for news. Thank Dottie for all her hard work.

Ms Zenyatta, good morning to you. I had to look at your pics again. You are so beautiful. Have a wonderful day with all your gfriends. Love and Hugs, Lisa g

Good morning!
I love the photo of Zenyatta as she’s turned to the paddock. She has such beautiful lines. John must really miss her. I’m so glad we get to be involved in your life.
Happy Monday, Zenyatta and Dottie!
Keep warm!
Stella
Dear Queen Z,
Your paddock looks lovely and so do your friends, but your presence, Queen, makes it appear like Royal ground! :) So glad to hear you’re adapting and thriving–that puts a big smile on my face. And tell John not to worry about your scratch. You’re just enjoying playtime! :) Can’t wait to hear your dating news! Until then, stay safe and warm.
Much love and kisses to you, Z,
Stel
Nancy
Thank you Nancy for the ESPN link. It was great and an emotional video.
Wow – didn’t realize your paddock was so large. I’m so glad you have all the room to run and play in.
Theresa Buck
just to let you know Z you looks great in your winter attire

Hi Z, Did I hear right–you are a Jets fan? I suppose this means you are a Yankees fan as well? Being from New England this is somewhat disturbing! :) I love you anyway (but must say I was rooting for the Steelers). I am so happy to hear how well you are doing and that you have made such good friends. You are a wonderful girl and deserve nothing but the best!
It is below zero today in New England I hope it is a bit warmer in Kentucky–if not be sure to keep warm out in the paddock. BRRRRRRR…
Yvonne and Maurice Kirby
Hi Zenyatta. Just got back and could not wait to see your diaries. I know I am a worry person, but please take care of that scratch. I get upset to think you have a scratch. We went to Sam Houston to be there for Texas Champions Day. What a great time. Aces and Kings won – one of my favorites and Taptam who was second to you at Oaklawn won the Star of Texas. It was a perfect night of racing. So sorry the Jets lost but they put up a great fight. Your pics are just beautiful – you are so gorgeous. Love you so. It would be so nice to develop a yearly book compiling your diaries, all your fun facts and photos, especially photos of your babies. Please do not play too hard with your friends, no more scratches! Love you angel in disguise.
Shannon From Cool
It’s nice to see a Queen be able to act like a regular girl out in her playground.
Mary McQuire
Sorry the Jets lost but all is OK because Zenyatta won HOY and is happy in her new home.

ZENYATTA…you are the GREATEST!!! You look beautiful!! I am so glad that you made “horse of the year” finally!! I so miss you racing, but I’m so glad that you are happy!! Thank you for bringing so much love and light to my life!! I love you!!

@Rhonda C
The passing of War Pass was tragic and I am sure it’s being thoroughly investigated but you need to remember that despite their size the Thoroughbred is a very delicate machine. Look at what happened to Swale.
As for Miesque, she was 27 years old. To put that in human years she was well into her late 90s. That’s a good old age for a Thoroughbred and she lived a full and happy life.
As for Zenyatta’s ‘scratch’. It’s a scratch. She’s going to go through a lot worse when she foals but that’s the way of nature and the risk of being a horse.
Rose
Lovely Zenyatta and family..

Love the picture of you looking back at your girlfriends.
Also, love, love, the video of you on Facebook. Thank you to LE for the new video. Truly appreciate. :) :) :)

Hey Zen! How is Charles & the Lane’s End team taking the news that they are now taking care of the official 2010 HOTY!!!!!
I think some times it is true…the joy we feel is so great that we cannot put it into words…so, we look at the expressions on ones face…I absolutely love Jerry & Ann’s response when your name was chosen last Monday and the look on John, Dottie & Mike’s faces too…WOW…thanks for the memories!

Who would like to meet at Santa Anita on Sat. Feb 5 for: “Penny Chenery, the owner of 1973 Triple Crown champion Secretariat, has created the Secretariat Vox Populi Award and will present the trophy to Zenyatta’s owners, Jerry and Ann Moss, in a public ceremony at Santa Anita Park on Saturday, February 5”
Could be fun for us L.A. folks to meet, and have an afternoon out to support Mr. & Mrs. Moss, and of course, Zenyatta. I haven’t been to Santa Anita for a while so can’t think of a meeting spot, if anyone has an idea do post. Under a clock, the right side of paddock…… I’ll call S.A. and see what time the presentation is. Darn, I just sent all my Z gear to the U.K. for my uncle. Check back in a day or two.
