Happy Sunday Everyone!
Yesterday I commented that John and I spent some wonderful quality time together 1 to 1 when my CA FAMILY was visiting me last week. He took some distance photos for you so you could see my paddock. In this one, I am on the far right. As you can see, we have a wonderful, large paddock to run and play in together. It is very spacious and located in a place on the farm where we can see everything going on around us. The view is absolutely spectacular. As you know, I love to stand and look at my surroundings for hours at a time…just like I would do when I was out grazing at Barn 55. So this is very pleasing for me! I can see everything…everywhere! I feel like I am at a beautiful resort!
Then my dear John took some photos of ME. He simply can’t resist checking me out and feeling my legs…as he has done for years every single morning. I was a great sport…and let him do it. He really thought I looked fabulous and very healthy. Even though I’ve gained some weight while here…John thought I was ‘wearing it beautifully’. As always, he was full of many wonderful compliments for me! JOHN sure knows how to make ME feel special. I loved seeing him again!
My dear John did note, though, that I had a bit of a scratch on my one hip. I’m fine…just playing around in the field with my friends. It is all just part of having FUN! I do enjoy all of my free time and running free. It is a very special time for me in my life now! I feel so fortunate in so many ways!
Well, only a few more hours until GAME TIME for MY JETS! I want to be right up-front and watching when they KICK OFF! Oh, I do love my SPORTS! Dottie was telling John and I this morning that I was on ESPN. They were doing a segment on different achievements in different sports…and I was mentioned for my 19 for 20 record! Too cute!
Enjoy your day.
With Love,
Hugs to all~

Good evening gorgeous girl.
Have a wonderful night, my Horse of the Year. Sleep tight. I hope it’s nice and warm in your stall.
We’ll like find out the name of the date in the next few days (I won’t use the ‘shed’ talk; for me, you’re too much of a lady for it).
Big kiss, peppermint thoughts.
Nighty night.
Mwah.

Good evening Zenyatta,
my, my, you never take a bad picture. You just never do, always perfect, no matter, which side, right or left, front or back, you always look beautiful.:) Of course we haven’t seen you do the mud roll, yet, sorta like Marilyn Monroe in the tub, except you’d get everybody chuckling. I bet your friend(?) incognito, just can’t find the right one to dance with, none of them(2legged)can match your beauty, none have whiskers like you, your eyes are bigger than any of theirs, none can do the “Zee Strut” anyway. So what’s the point??:)Sleep your beauty sleep and sweet dreams of all your favorites.
Snoprinz
Zenny, you’re a natural in front of the camera. Have you ever considered a career in the movies or modeling? You are one happy horse in the company of your friends in that big paddock. Have fun and take care. Thanks John and Dottie for the lovely photos.

Beautiful pictures! Thank you got sharing them with us all.

Dear Zenyatta
Thanks for sharing these beautiful pictures. John
knows how to capture the special moments. Be careful
playing Those bare hoofs and teeth can be challenging!!!!!
It’s all part of being a horse and so glad you are
one finally. You could not race forever like we all wanted
you to. It will be so much fun to watch your foals grow up
and race. Your 1/2 sister is coming into her own. Will
look forward to following her at barn 55.
Sweet dreams . Maybe sugar free peppermints !!!!!

Thanks for the pics, Dottie & John! I really appreciate how you keep us in the loop. I am eagerly awaiting the movie of the Quern rolling in the snow & grass.

Zen & John thank you for the wonderful photos you have a very spacious paddock. One slight problem with your choice of football teams…I live 90 miles from Pittsburgh, Steelers going to the Super Bowl! Sorry Zen.
Valerie Chase
Oh Z, warms my heart so to read how happy you are with your new life. Can’t imagine how it could be any better! Thank you so much again for keeping us up to date and please tell John and Dottie thank you so much for sharing the pictures. I print all of them you share and put them in my “Z” album. So much fun to go through and look at. Looking forward to hearing from you again! Love and Hugs!

Z I just saw your beloved Jets lose to the Steeler’s. I hated to see that happen because if they would of won your Team might of come to Texas for the Superbowl where I live. I have not seen them since November and the stadium is state of the art, something wonderful to experience. Sleep tight Z. The Jets will recover. Tomorrow is a new day.

“Clark`s words and actions deserving of spotlight” by Jay Hovney, DRF.com, 01/20/2011 . .. http://www.drf.com/news/clarks-words-and-actions-deserving-spotlight .. . “Ann and Jerry Moss have been on record for some time now as fervent supporters, in both word and deed, of dignified retirement for all Thoroughbred race horses. They are not alone, but neither are they enough.”
Joan Dobbie
Yes, thanks so much for these posts. Here’s a poem I wrote for our lady:
A Poem for Zenyatta
Joan Dobbie
It’s all too true that lately
I’ve been lonely. Just turned 65. Retirement
Home fliers & prepaid funeral ads
up the yahoo. Lots of sweet
young grandkids- true- but
far away. My young & charming
lover far
from loyal. My closest girlfriend
dead now just about a year
(or is it two?) Another win
for cancer.
So maybe it’s no big surprise
that absolutely by surprise
I fell head-over-heels
in love
with a race horse I never
even saw except on YouTube– and that
the night before
her one defeat.
For weeks I tried to figure out what
that one loss could possibly signify
in my life — or anyone’s & couldn’t
find an answer except
maybe this:
One sunny summer morning
in a little tourist town
in Western Australia
(where the stars burn bright
as torches and
the moon hangs upside down)
my daughter’s 4-year-old, just waking,
mused, “Maybe the whole wide world
is black as night and everything we think
we see is just a dream.”
“Leif,” said my daughter– as mothers will–
“Life is real.”
But in this sometimes
too real world
there are real stars that do shine
bright enough to burn your eyes. A filly
for example, so exquisite in her beauty
& strength of body & spirit
that she comes up flying like a rocket
again & again from “dead last.”
And if she doesn’t quite win her
very last race, I say she would have won
if the world were less — or more
— than real.
A filly whose dance moves
weren’t taught, whose pre-race dances
wowed the crowds, whose innate
creature grace, if captured
by an oriental artist’s pen
would be immortal
in the world of art:
Zenyatta, my Love.
Top of the World, Zenyatta.
2010 Horse of the Year. Now
yanked from our sight:
Retired now, to brood mare.
Well, may she be the greatest
brood mare ever bred.
May she be the mother
of the greatest horses yet to race.
May she be an inspiration to all mothers–
grandmothers– greats of every species.
May her pride & joy in life not ever
be diminished.
May her star shine ever brighter
year by year.
And when she’s old as any mare
can ever live to be, may
she dance & dance–
in this world & whatever world may come.
— continually.

This is your favorite fans birthday
today, its 1/23/45.
Your are the greatest of all time.
I feel so lucky to see you run.
Pick Invasor for a husband.
He will treat you like a Queen.
WHO LOVES YOU BABY??
Arnie
Well, though I’m totally on your side in everything, we part company here, Zennie. GO STEELERS!
BTW, how long is your winter coat? It was 80 here in Inglewood today, so you wouldn’t need a winter coat here.

I loved this poem that Jerry Moss read at the Eclipse Awards. I hope I transcribed it right:
A Poem by Priscilla Clark – President of Tranquility Farms:
“If you love thoroughbred horses, you go through life
Hoping you can just see one more in whose presence
The clouds fall away to reveal the mountaintops.
It can be a generation, or infinitely longer
for such a horse to arrive.
A horse that is capable of carrying the
Human heart.
For the last one hundred years we know them all by name.
But Zenyatta brought to us a beauty that was itonic for the fold.
She allowed us to believe in the impossible
And it was the light in her being as much as the thrill of her races
That got us dancing.
Zenyatta was transformative.”
===================
We all love you Zenyatta, grand thoroughbred racehorse. Because of you, I can see the mountaintops!

Dear Joan Dobbie: For your words, and for your standing by them, as Wendell Berry counsels, I give my ‘Failing Better’ truth. ‘When things seem to you meaningless, mindless, maddening, absurd, cruel, contrived, manipulated, coerced, YOU Go And do something that has meaning for you, and out of that, God creates your salvation.’ Trusting you`ll get it right, even the mistakes. This once was on page 27 of Paul Tillich`s ‘The Courage To Be,’ paragraph #3, when I couldn`t even comprehend the text . .. yet, returning a few days later, it wasn`t there at all. ‘There are more things, Horatio, in heaven and earth, than are dreamt of in your philosophy.’ Just in time — and as your senior — there happened Zenyatta, and Priscilla Clark, also a scribe. Thank you. K.

Dear Zenyatta and Connections….I just love this site. After I put my own horses to bed with much love and kisses, it is wonderful to be able to come inside and share time with all of you. Thanks to everyone who gave updates during HOY! It was much appreciated. The Trevor Denman video and the Heart video both brought tears to my eyes. Thank you Paula and Nancy L. I love John’s pictures of Z, thank you! Have a good week everyone! I will be 63 on Tuesday and I can honestly say that Zenyatta has been one of my most amazing experiences. WOW!

I’m sure your paddock will be spectacular in the spring and summer. It’s so kind of your CA family to keep your fans in touch with you. You are a wonderfully lucky girl. Take care not to get too many nicks and scratches, but, as a horse owner myself, I know how you horses play. My boy is now 29, and he still enjoys playing around!
lizzy
You’re looking good Z. Can definitely tell you’ve fatten up a bit, but you wear the weight well. ;) ;)
