Team Z. I can’t expresse enough how impressed I am with your kindness and generosity. Zenyatta was truly “blessed” to have all of you as her PARENTS… CONGRATS
Debbie
Hi beautiful Z! Congrats once again on the incredible HOY victory!! I’m STILL excited about it! Here’s my 2nd post on here. I’m DYING to hear about your visit last weekend with your CA team & see pictures (& maybe some video?!). Also very anxious to hear the special news about who your lucky (VERY lucky!) 1st date will be!! HUGS from L.A.
Debbie
PS – just read some of the above posts. I’m sure we shouldn’t worry & you are perfectly happy & fine sweet Zennie! It has been a whirlwind ride (no pun intended) for US, your fans, so I can’t imagine what a whirlwind this has been for you & your team!! Such a big job & a big responsibility to keep us all up to date! You really HAVE spoiled us! I know you & the team are just catching a breath, & probably exhausted after the HOY was over – you could finally relax a minute! Why, I’ll bet your team hasn’t hardly even had time to do the stuff all us humans do – like paying bills & going to the grocery store. Of course not you Lady Z – queens don’t do that sort of thing. We are grateful for your attention, & wait happily to hear from U soon. Hugs from L.A.

I think Dottie is probably very busy– I think she will still post for Zenyatta–don’t worry gang!!!!! We will hear more news!!!!! Take care, Janet C
Sharon
thanks, Debbie, I agree with what you say. I’m sure Team Z has been in a major huddle lately with LE folks about breeding plans. Anyway, that’s what John said at the Elipse awards. I bet our next “news” will be THE big breeding news!!

Making me a little nervous that we haven’t heard from Z/Dottie, especially since receiving HOY. Really expected, after such great news, Z/Dottie would have addressed fans by now. :\

Hello Beautiful HOY!
There are so many posts on here that I can’t be sure I’ve read them all =-) But I just wanted to make sure someone told Dottie how FABULOUS she looked on the Awards show!!! Right down to her beautiful shoes! Sure glitzed up John ;-) Now maybe she could get him to wear a diamond stud in his ear, ya think? Well probably not. But really, what would look any better than a Zenyatta cap?
Nitey nite sleep tite, my lovely Z! (psst – feel any different now that you’re HOY?

Interesting list of old horse movies, as a child I believe I watched My Friend Flicka and Thunderhead, Son of Flicka hundreds of times. That was a time before I was able to ride horses and become a proud owner of a horse. The old saying was to get her a horse and she’ll get over wanting one. Had my first horse at 18 and now almost 60 years later and I love them more than ever. And I still have horses in my life. Can’t imagine getting up in the morning and not going down to the barn for that special scent of horse! Team Z feels this way I’m sure based on the care and love they have given Queen Z.

Guess it was goodbye after all. I kind of had a feeling we would not be hearing much from you and I doubt we will see you either. Hugs and Kisses

Hi Again! I just watched the HOTY Awards videos posted on Backside 55. It was so much fun to watch it again. Thanks to John for posting.

Zen, thank you and congratulations on winning the 2010 HOY award and congratulations to Team Z as well. The award was truly deserved and well-earned. I hope that your award signals the beginning of a new era in horseracing-a sport that is gentler and kinder to all racehorses and puts the welfare of all TBs over and above love for the almighty $$.
Will there be future posts or is this the Queen’s farewell post? I hope not.

The Horse Movie list is also missing that movie with Viggo Mortensen, about a horse race in the Middle East, the win finances a the release of a herd of mustangs in Montana, I think. That was a good movie.
Zetty/Dottie were are you?? Maybe the announcement about Zetty’s suitor is coming?!

Please, everybody, don’t be thinking Z and Dottie have abandoned Z’s fans. No way! I’ll bet they have a very special blog planned, with video of their visit to LE to see Zenny with her girlfriends PQ, Alys & Seagull and – if we’re very lucky – some footage of Z rolling in the mud! LOL! What fun that will be to see!
At the same time, remember that Dottie has a very important job as the Moss’s racing manager. John has a bunch of young’uns coming up and needing direction. They all have WORK to do, they can’t just rest on Z’s laurels.
So my advice is, practice patience. I have no doubt we’ll all be richly rewarded.

Dear Queen Zenyatta, You won 3 Eclipse awards for 2010. You deserved them and much more. I watched you video on The BloodHorse web site. You ran around your paddock with your tail sticking straight up like a flag! Never saw you do that on race day or warming up! You look so happy! We hope someone will come to take up your banner with their tail flying high. Not praying for 19 and all those eclipse awards just one big powerful colt or filly with the look of eagles and a tail fluing high. Love you!

Sunny: Hidalgo. One of my favorites movies!

Hi Again Zenny: We are all trying to figure out why we haven’t heard from you. I just happen to think–maybe it’s because you have been partying—-celebrating your HOTY award!! Lol. Maybe you had just a little too many Guinness Beers!! Lol!!!

Not to worry. I am sure Dottie and Zenny will continue with the posts. What a whirlwind they have been on these past few days. I’m sure they are taking a breather and will be back to the diary soon. Jerry and Dottie so gratiously thanked all the fans on Monday night and stressed the importance fans play in keeping racing alive. Z told us pictures from John would be coming …they will.

I hope the Moss’s and Sherriff’s are savoring every moment being with Zenyatta right now and making final plans for Mr. Right and I’m sure we will hear from Dottie very soon. I loved the DRF photo tribute to Zenyatta (even though DRF had the most votes for Blame) – she is truly stunning – reminds me of a greek horse goddess from long ago…never get tired of anything Zenyatta.

Oh, yes I have no doubt we will be hearing from Z and Dottie. I was just being silly.

While we’re waiting, could someone explain to me the duties of a racing manager? I’m not in the business and really am enjoying learning more. Does he/she choose the races? I thought that was the trainer’s job. Or is it more like getting all the paper work in on time and things like that?

VOTE FOR ZENYATTA AT http://www.lasports.org Here’s something we can do for Zenyatta and Team Z. The Los Angeles Sports Council has a big dinner in Feb. to announce the Los Angeles Top 10 Sports Moments of 2010. Last year Zenny came 2nd. Lets make sure she comes 1st this year. Vote by Jan. 31. When u go to the website, click on ‘Vote Now’ you have to enter your name and email and make up a user name and password, then you see a list of things to vote for, click on ‘Individual Sports’ then you will have a choice of 5 things, Zenyatta’s Accomplishments are at the bottom – click on box beside her to vote. Also, lets give Dottie a break here, she has been so generous with her time helping Zenyatta with all these dairy posts. I miss them too, but I think we should should consider saying to Dottie that we would be more than happy to hear from Zenyatta twice a month. Then Zenyatta and Dottie would have more time to do all the other important things they do. We don’t want it to become a burden to them. After all, there are a lot of other horses in the barn that need Dotties attention, to say nothing of her husband and children. Lets show that we have learned to be generous and considerate too. Gosh, I wonder if there’s a 12 step program for Zenyatta Dairy Post withdrawal. Well, again, we could use the time we would have spent reading the dairy posts every day to show that Team Z has inspired us, we can make an effort to give back in whatever small way. Call up your local cat/dog rescue, go help groom the animals up for adoption. Offer to drive an elderly neighbor to the grocery store. All kinds of good deeds we can do in the name of Zenyatta, the best thing is, we will feel good doing it.

Yes, I love the last post from J. Smith.
I’m going to buy a huge bag of carrots and give them to a stable with lesson horses! … In Honor of Zenny.

Just a Quick check in with you Z ? How is your Choosing coming along? Is Uncle David helping you pick your Man out? Don’t keep us in suspense too much longer, we might pass out holding our breaths here :) Everyday I Hope for A.P, he is such a looker with such a Pedigree, but I know not too much about breeding and bloodstock so who am I to say, I just go by looks and if they come from a good family :) , Being tall myself I have to give you the advise my mom gave me, Don’t wear heels but NEVER slouch :)Always be a lady and be home by 10 :)I Love You Lots Zenny x0x0x0x0 from Maine

Some photos from Steve Haskin’s facebook album. I suppose the dings on her could be from all the rolling in the mud she loves to do, or from a little bickering with her pasture mates. The one photo of her reaching out for her mint is so cute.

Congratulations to everyone.
If first-date suggestions are being considered; how about Mineshaft?

Thanks, JSmith for the link to lasports.org. I voted for our star. Let’s keep this ball rolling! This is the positive side of our sport and a chance to introduce more potential fans. I can’t believe there is over 1000 blog entries now. But then Z is un-be-liev-a-ble!

I’m not worried at all. I’m sure Team Zenyatta is basking in the glow from all the hoopla, and maybe getting some much-deserved rest, and taking care of personal business. LoL, but what do I know? Maybe they’re simply busy getting ready for Zenny’s big mating announcement, the biggest question after HOY. It will come when it comes. No hurry, no worry. Relax.

I was so afraid to look at the news on Monday and when I saw the winner was Z I just couldn’t stop crying! It’s been such an amazing experience and from the bottom of my heart I want to say THANK YOU! Congratulations on bringing home the top prize! Team Z rocks!

I miss you big girl, hope all is excellent with you. Congratulations on your long overdue, and well deserved Horse of the Year award! I love you Zenyatta, sending you hugs and kisses..

Love to you Queen Zenyatta ~ we are all thrilled for you to finally get this award that you truly deserved ~ It’s been a tense two months wondering if the voters were going to hold that lousy six inches against your amazing record ~ thank God some of them were smart enough to see what a fantastic mare you truly are !!! God bless the smart ones :)
