AND, `way back up ^ there, Michael Blowen said, “And, THE BEST IS YET TO COME,” and Michael is as grounded as his horses, so do hold good thoughts, as you`re so good at doing.

Z- Hurrah! Your victory as Horse of the Year puts a perfect ending to your astonishing racing career…Wishing you many great years in your new career. Love, Lynn
Charles Stevens
Now this magnificent mare will be taken care of by the very best
at Lane’s End Farm in Kentucky where she deserves to be after
three years of fantastic and honorable racing. She and her trainers and owners are models that many people should copy.

Jeanie

Dear Zenyatta,
So happy that your heart, talent and joy in running were acknowledged by your OWN. (Mike is probably the happiest about HOY though.) Again thanks to your family for sharing you with us. Besides the awards themselves, there is the even greater recognition of how they worked with you to not only develop your talent but stay a happy, healthy, sound horse that loved to run. Other owners seem to be moving in the same positive direction, i.e.,Blind Luck and Uncle Mo and that’s not only amazing, it’s a powerful force for good in the industry.
Love and hugs to all,
SuzanneG
ps
Gary, thanks for the great list!
L, couldn’t agree with you more.
Backside 55, we’ll stay tuned waiting for ‘offical news’ appreciate the post.

iam sorry for the misunderstanding. my post should have been bad news? i was asking. after reading some of your comments about me i am upset that someone would say i didnt want Z to win. im an x trainer. i have loved her from day one. i pray for her daily. i am concerned. this has never happened before. dottie is like clock work. again im sorry to have upset some of you. im praying there is no bad news.
Lauren
Dear Zen – I miss hearing from you. Maybe you are out celebrating your victory. Hope to hear more news from you soon.
Love and Kisses.
Arlene
Congratulations Zenyatta! and your Team!
In my mind you not getting HOY until this year brought you even more fame and achievement (including gracefully and honorably coming in 2nd {by only a nose} in the Breeder’s Cup. (I am sure you would have been first if you had been able to get through the group of horses sooner.)
I’m glad you weren’t retired in 2009, as I (and probably many others) would never have heard of you, as I don’t follow horse racing. Somehow when Secretariat won the Tripple Crown Award I saw all three races on the television. Then I didn’t see anymore Tripple Crown races (or any other) til I heard about Smarty Jones story and was able to see his races on TV. Even then, nor since, I never heard of the Breeders’ Cup race. But I do love horses and watching them. They are one of God’s graceful creations. I heard about you on the 60 minute show – and I am glad I did. I would have liked to have seen the race on TV, but we don’t get the channel it was on. But I did see the video on the internet. And many videos and pictures of you since. Beautiful!
Congratulations on the upcoming inaugural Secretariat Vox Populi Award, or “Voice of the People” .
I have been following your Diary. I love the Z in the sky – a heavenly award. You and your Team show God’s love.

1000th comment!

I guess as fans we expect so much from Dottie and all. Sorry but I guess obsession gets like that. I hope you are all taking a deep breath and processing all that has happened with team Z and the Queen. Just a thanks to let you all know how much I appreciate the contact you give me with the Beloved Horse. I hope I as a fan do not appear ungrateful for all you have done. Looking forward to news about the HOY.
Barbara Wood
So thankful “bad news” wasn’t bad news!
Kathryn Cogswell
Brave, returning to correct this . .. Thank You, Jim. Do you want to be a maiden aunt, a mother hen, or come up w/ your own tag? ~ ‘Backside 55’ is good to advise trusting official news.
Debbie
Dear Sweet Zneyatta. Now I hear you will be the first recipient ever of the SECRETARIAT VOX POPULI AWARD, given by Penny Chenery (Secretariat’s owner). It means “voice of the people” so now you recieve both the accomplishment award and the “what you brought to the sport and your fans” award. I don’t know of any other horse who has been able to do what you have. Thank you for being there for us all these years and for many years to come. And I cried too when you won Horse of the Year!
Heidi Kruckenberg
Zen/Dottie I hope all is well. We’re not used to not hearing about Zenny for more than a day. Thank you again Dottie for keeping all of us to date!
Anne Ross
What a beauty you are, and such class.
You are, indeed, a queen.

Congratulations Queen Z and Team Z. It makes me so happy that the Eclipse voters really “got it”, finally.
Also congratulations on being the first winner of the Secretariat Vox Populi Award.
i have a question for you Zenny, can you explain the reasons for wearing the cotton in your ears.
Robbie Pfeufer Kahn
Dear KATHRYN: Thank you for the riveting story about your experiences at Jackie Fulps’ barn. This quote, “So much respect, trust, affection and the relationship, is curried on the ground and that few understand. Mario knows, and ‘Z` shows, how it works” held much power.
The story of your mare’s revival to good health, her carrying a foal at 20, her trust in you shown by wanting you to be at the birth, and the little foal who lay in your lap while you stretched his tendons—that story seems suffused with the spirit of Mary O’Hara.
I visited her Wyoming ranch a few years ago and looked at her archives with the idea of writing about her (a project as yet to be done) born from my intense love from childhood of the book “Thunderhead” I walked on the land to Castle Rock and I could see Thunderhead, grazing in the lush grass near his mares.
You may know that “My Friend Flicka” was published in a small pocket edition for the soldiers during WWII—it was that popular; it was translated into many languages including, as I remember, Arabic.
The letters to O’Hara remind me of the posts to Zenyatta in volume proportionate to the time, the early 1940s. What touched people most, usually women whose husbands likely were overseas, was a story that took them away from the hardships of that time (a number of posts here have referred to the balm of Zenyatta “in these times”) and the kindness shown to the boy Ken (not typical in that period of childrearing), a boy who was kind to his horse.
Team Z and Zenyatta, your story about your teacher, mare and foal, and others like you (as seen in your praise of Marylou Whitney’s words) seem to be the “My Friend Flicka” tales of our time. All the best–Robbie
Robbie Pfeufer Kahn
TO L: I agree about “My Friend Flicka” and “Thunderhead” and for that matter “Green Grass of Wyoming” missing from the list.
Robbie Pfeufer Kahn
I didn’t even think of “bad news.” Especially after hearing from Backside 55. Why should these posts be daily? That would be a hard schedule to maintain, particularly after the Eclipse Awards, which concluded Zenyatta’s career as a racehorse.
I have spoken before of being in favor of deserved privacy now, at least in some measure.
Roxanne Cook
Horses love a routine. If you read Steve Haskin’s Visiting Zenyatta, you know what Zenyatta is doing from 4:30 in the morning till she is put the bed at night. It’s great to get daily updates, but Dottie and the team have a stableful of other horses to prepare for the big 2011 races … plus who knows what else. Let them take a vacation! They deserve it!!
Elena Erdman
Maybe, just maybe Zenyatta is being bred now. Just a thought. No news at all, that is strange, but we must wait.
Elena Erdman
Maybe from this last post Zenyatta is thanking all her fans and this is the end of the posts.
DEAR BARN 55 AND MY FANS,

Hopefully, this is just a small delay as a build-up to the announcement of Zenyatta’s very important plans for next month!
Why should we not have to hold our breaths a little more — hasn’t that been part of the Zenyatta experience all along? :)
Linda / Maryland
” We ALL KNEW ZENYATTA WAS HORSE OF THE YEAR” finally the whole world knows~!!!
LOVE YOU Zenyatta~
Nancy L
Wow I had been so preoccupied with worry about Zenyatta getting HOY that I just realized something: I am REALLY going to miss her. I miss looking forward to her next race most of all.
Elena Erdman
Maybe there are no more posts because there is no more news. I know at the Eclipse awards they thanked all of us. Also Jerry said the horse that she will be bred to will be announced next week.

Hi Zenny: I miss not hearing from you too. I don’t think you would say thank you and good-bye to us within the same note of winning the HOTY award. We became very spoiled hearing from you every day over the past couple of months. I sure do hope you and Dottie continue to work together to bring us your latest news. It has been such fun learning all the different things about your life as a racehorse–bits, bandages etc., as well as your life with your new friends at Lanes End Farm. We miss you Zenny. We want to know how YOU celebrated winning the HOTY Award!!!!! You are probably very busy celebrating with all your family members. Oh and Congratulations on receiving the Secreteriat Vox Du Populi Award. Hope to hear from you soon. Love, Linda
