Warmest, warmest congratulations to all members of Team Zenyatta. Thank you for not only developing, caring for and sharing a once in a lifetime horse but for setting such a brilliant and classy example in all ways. We will never forget one minute of the last three years or the amazing magic and inspiration of Zenyatta. Long live the queen!
Janet
I wanted to add to my earlier post. Thank you so much Dottie for doing such a great job on the diary. Zenyatta has touched so many people and we appreciate having a connection to her and her team. Please let us know when we can purchase a DVD with a collection of Zenyatta footage and maybe a t-shirt for HOY. I know there are many of us who would like to purchase Zenyatta merchandise and the proceeds could be donated to the many worthy equine charities you support.

For those who haven’t seen this photo, it is priceless. Look at the surprise and excitement on their faces!! I think lots of us felt the same way.

All I can say is YES!!!!!! The Queen has been crowned by her peers. You are awesome Z. For your fans you have always been HOY, but now it is recognized by all. Great job Team Zenyatta – it is because of all of you that she has accomplished so much for the racing fans who have now become “her fans/family”. I am sooooooo happy!!! God bless you all. And Queen Z, have a Stout to celebrate. I know I am.

Congratulations to Team Zenyatta & Queen Zenyatta!!!!!!! I let such a whoop that it scared my cat away! She finally returned. I’m so happy for all y’all!!
Patricia
Zen- I am sure you & all of Team Z are still recovering from the excitement of Monday night!!! My daughter Ella was running late for school today, but wanted me to share her thoughts…”Oh, my gosh mom, she did it…yee-haw!” Then there was some jumping & dancing with her little brother…Again, Congrats…xoxo
Maria
Zenyatta, could you please ask Dottie if the portion of the profit from the sale of your merchandise on zenyatta.bigcartel.com go to horse rescue organization. I want to buy your 2010 HOY hat.

A few years ago Barbaro captivated the country and promoted the sport incredibly, same as Zenyatta has done. Unfortunately, there was no happy ending and many were left wishing and hoping. Also, both of these horses were blessed in having the best owners, trainer and team who unselfishly shared them with the fans. I am ecstatic that this time around there’s much to celebrate and we finally have our story book ending!
Pattie from Pickens, SC
I agree with the fans, I would love to purchase a DVD of Zenyatta. I would need 2 of them, because I’m sure I will wear the 1st one out :)Thank you Team Z for the updates on this website. Looking forward to hearing who will be Zenyatta’s mate. I like AP Indy!! Plus he resides at Lane’s End, which means Z won’t have to travel to be bred.

Zenyatta, if anyone could destroy the vitriol about East Coast vs West Coast horses, it could only be you! The LA Times and NY Times tributes to you this past week were absolutely beautiful and heart-warming. Thank you for the joy, beauty, and love you have brought to our entire country. Congratulations, Horse for the Ages!

Dear Barbara Wood: Because I had AGAIN just written poor Tom Udall about BLM, and even baby wild things running for their lives to keep up with their mamas from ‘heli-cowboys’ on the payroll, then read JOAN`s strategic suggestions, it did type through. Ms. Whitney has done so much for her part. See Jennifer Werth`s “Zenyatta Has Earned Horse of the Year” Nov.9th,`10 #63 blog from right around the BCC`10, on ‘The Saturday Post;’ her sublime words are riveting, her thoughts fundamental. Also, Amanda Duckworth, ESPN Jan 18, 2011: “I want to be Marylou Whitney when I grow up ~ A Class Act.” ~ Harriet Martin was our Lady of the Language in a time when her calling was breaking bread on the waters, and English was all King James & Churchill. It is a gifted honor EVER to have had a good teacher — proud of you, Ms. Wood. ~ Khc.

@Kimberly,
Shame on *you* for a lack of grace in winning.
Looking just at 2010 Blame and Zenyatta’s campaigns and accomplishments were neck in neck. The 102 who voted for Blame saw more in his 2010 year than they did in Zenyatta’s and they voted accordingly.
The truth is both horses had solid, average years. Neither won the Triple Crown, neither were blowing away track records, neither raced 10 times over 10 different surfaces. In all hard honesty, neither Blame nor Zenyatta showed the versatility and class that was Rachel Alexandra’s 3 year old year. For that matter, Goldikova gave a more brilliant and well rounded 2010 season, she just did it over seas more than here.
Zenyatta’s personality, the grace of her connections and the over all strength of her entire career are what lifted her to her current status.
Salute Zenyatta by all means but not at the expense of degrading on a very good horse in his own right.

Team Z,
Just wanted to let you know that I’m patiently (and I mean it) waiting for your thoughts, photos and updates. I suspect (and hope) that you are still in Miami, sitting beachside with a flavorful drink soaking up the sun and reflecting on your accomplishments. Thinking of you all.
Kathryn Cogswell
Rachel Alexandra`s sadness was palpable .. . A horse`s face and bearing speak volumes. Her eyes registered a wildness and fear that running sound and joyful never exhibits. A killing drive to campaign brilliantly counters Marylou Whitney`s assurances that, over time, her family, since 1894, came to know success meant bringing their horses home, returned from the track unhurt. Well-rounded hard honesty means rested, healthy, happy runners, a restructured definition now perhaps possible because at last there is Zenyatta, sound at seven, her ovaries wholly functional and not battered to inutility.
L
Sifting through the flowery language.
I didn’t say that RA’s campaign didn’t take it’s tool. Anyone who watches her Woodward can see that, still she did retire sound in body if not heart and that debate is about the owners, not the horses and what they did on the track.
And I don’t think anyone will argue that owners like Marylou Whitney and the Mosses are worlds away from an owner like Jess Jackson. I will never again support any horse that carries the gold and burgundy silks of JJ.
Beth Blair
Congratulations, Queen Z. A well deserved honor for a great champion. Loved looking at the pictorial tribute to you on DRF assembled by Barbara Livingston. Thanks for all the memories and to your Team as well.
Alexandra Bowdoin
My Dear Z, There are 890 responses to this diary…WOW…as to Beth’s mentioning Barbara Livingston, I really want to buy that picture she took of Z running in the Paddock that first day…
God Bless Team Z and how they took such good care of this Magnificent racehorse!

Thank you, Kathryn, for saying what I have said many times: Rachel had the saddest eyes after she was taken away from her trainer that I ever saw.
Thank you, Penny Chenery, for such a brilliant idea! We love you too!
Barbara Wood
Also Kathryn,
Thank you for you kind words to me. I just now saw them.
