Good Morning Everyone,
I hope all of you are well and enjoying the MARCH MADNESS FUN…both in College Basketball and OUR CONTEST. The 64 teams are playing the first round right now just like we will do in our first round. We will start with 64 LUCKY CARDS to be selected from all of them that are submitted. From those 64, the next draw will be to select 32 from that group of 64. This is just like after the first round of 64 teams play in the real March Madness, it will then go to 32 teams for the next part of the tournament. So much fun!
I’m giving you some time to think about what you’d like to write. Please get your cards ready. I’ll be posting the address to mail them to next week.
On a very sweet note, I wanted to share this photo with you of MY DEAR OWNER. John took it yesterday morning at Barn 55 when he came out to visit some of his horses and spend the morning with all of my Barn 55 friends. It is so special! As you can see, JOHN still has my stall there…JUST FOR ME! So many of my cherished photos and keepsakes are there. It is all so very touching!
In looking at this picture, I wonder what MY DEAR JERRY is thinking? I’m sure he misses seeing my face peaking out of the stall and hanging out with me on the grass while I was grazing. Yet, on the other hand, I know he is so pleased that I am happy, healthy, and enjoying every moment of my new life at Lane’s End. I have truly been blessed to have the BEST OF BOTH WORLDS.
HMMMM! Upon reflection, I wonder what HE would write on his postcard if he was doing one for our contest? I BET I KNOW. He’d tell everyone THAT HE IS SO VERY PROUD OF ME AND THAT HE LOVES ME A WHOLE BUNCH!!
LUCKY ME!
Enjoy your DAY!
With Love,
Hugs to ALL~

We live in a world in which advanced science and technology can, and has, added both to the wellbeing,(veterinary advancements) and misery, (cloning, factory farms, horrendous animal research, overbreeding). We are in a world in which wildlife is increasingly being destroyed, while public lands (here & elsewhere) are being sold off to the highest bidder, for mining, clearing, et.al) Sadly, more & more wildlife is becoming extinct, while a multitude of domestic animals are overbred, leaving a glut of animals in misery, without homes, and suffering. I don’t know what the answer is; however, I will quote Einstein, who said “Problems cannot be solved, using the same consciousness by which they were created.” Humans need a shift in consciousness. I hope the human race quickly evolves to this.

You stand proud and tall asking all to support those who are in need human or animal. That is who you are Dear Queen

ZENYATTA I BET JERRY IS THINKING OF ALL THOSE WONDERFUL TIMES YOU GAVE TO ALL OF US. HE AND ANN ARE THINKING TOO OF YOUR NEW ROLE AS A BROAD MARE. WHAT JOY IT WILL BE TO SEE YOUR OFFSPRING RACE. YOU HAVE MADE ALL OF US SO VERY HAPPY. LOVE TO ALL, SHERRY D. WV.

To those of us who love horses so much, the realization that any are neglected or misused, much less slaughtered, is horrendous. I always say, “God is watching, and He doesn’t like ugly…or greed, for that matter.” Many more are being bred than need to be. A perfect case is dear DynaKing, found abandoned in The Dog Patch in Tucson. I support several
rescues, but I’m stretched pretty thin. All the money we can scrape up to send won’t help as long as they keep over-breeding. More and more are letting their horses go because they can no longer afford the upkeep, and I fear as times get worse, the situation will not improve. I’m making a decision that if our daughter needs help (she is single) with her horse’s board bills, I’ll eat less myself and help him!
@Dawn–please let us all know as soon as you know something.
@Catherine Uher–we’re still here for you.
Hope you are having a marvelous day, darling Z. I’m hoping for a “Z” pin someday so I can use it to talk about YOU! Love you always.

Dearest Sweet “Z”,
We are off to the races at Santa Anita and will be rooting for Jordanelle #10 on the 10th race! Good luck to your lovely owners! Today is the one million $ Horse-Shoe toss. My husband and son have been training : )…if they win – Bronzattas for All! Considering the odds, it will most likely be “e-hugs to All!”. I say “The family that prays together stays together” and he adds, “The family that plays together stays together!” You are the great teacher of Balance, Sweet Z!
Donna
Z you are the luckiest and most amazing horse in the world and you deserve lots of love and light.
I wish it was the same for every other horse who fails to make the grade.
I think every owner, trainer, breeder should go to Youtube and watch the video of how horses are slaughtered it is the most horrifying thing to see, it is not humane.
It takes a long time for a horse to die of starvation also, I believe in humane euthanasia.
When i am no longer a viable and useful human being and cannot take care of myself I am going to Switzerland where euthanasia is legal.
Every animal has a soul and every horse has an even bigger soul and heart for what they do for human beings.
It breaks my heart to see low level claiming races with older gelded horses and seeing a magnificent horse come in last.
I wish I could wave a magic wand and not let this cruelty continue, how can these people sleep at night.
God bless every horse.

What a beautiful picture! Yes, I’m sure Jerry misses your face peeking out the stall; however, by looking at all the photos and the signature banner, you are truly there in spirit! If someone comes to occupy that space, they have quite big hooves to fill! By the way, during a Hollywood Park race, last year, we signed a “farewell banner”. Is this the same one hanging in Barn 55? Luv you!

Awwww, Zenny, this is so sweet. You are a very lucky girl to have Jerry and John as only 2 of your “guys”, of course, there is Mike and Mario….and the list goes on.
Zenny, I have a question, I don’t feel comfortable putting my phone number on a post card. Can I put the post card inside an envelope so nobody sees personal information but you????

@ Annie
When I talked about rescue, it wasn’t horses, it was dogs & cats, I was transferring my experiences of that to this issue. Non-profit orgs in general, in my experience the people in the field are usually the ones in the know & truly motivated, often rescue is no fun, you see all kinds of things, you’re up your a… in doodoo, sometimes, but mostly it’s dirty, shocking, it scares the hell out of you the uncaring side of the ‘Shepherds’. That’s what I was trying to say, if you can come up with a winner, the horses in question will have a better world.
jean
Dearest Zenny, the world may be coming apart at the seams, so to speak, and it can be very frightening, but I go back to your website for comfort, and I’m never disappointed. You seem to stand above it all, like some eternal being of great beauty..and kindness .. Jean.

@ Ann Maree – I love your suggestions for a Zenyatta book and a Zenyatta movie! Hooves crossed that these dreams soon become reality!

audreyc: Written late, and after the fact of your note, so you may not read this, but your every word states the grist of much to consider. ‘Every horse is good for something . .. you don`t throw a whole life away, just `cuz it`s banged up a little.’ SEABISCUIT 2003, film. What permits poor economic patterns seems to be short-sighted %-based templates, throwing the greatest number of trial matches against a sea of possible matings, where everybody gets in on the act, making something up front, but with no will to think into the long-term of the animals created. Living things bring streams of glory with them to earth. I am convinced that it is how we greet and treat them, that expands or contracts our hearts. While we send our postcards to the ‘Bronze Zenyatta Contest,’ if each one were accompanied by calls & e`mails to our legislators, every one is counted as 10,000 similar opinions from ones who never write. The wheels of this great experimental democracy, like sacred justice, grind slow, but exceeding fine. People around the world now clamor for their own brand of representative government; we have it right here, ready to be better-tuned and functioning for the future and its better angels.

@J Smith: I almost had to LoL at “The Zenyatta Reflection Room”. I would want to be there, but it wouldn’t be “relaxing and calming” until after all the tears, because I never got the chance to be at her stall, when Zenny was there. I was in awe of her, physically, and when I did finally get to see her, I almost moaned in relief, being only about 10 ft. away from her. It was my heart’s desire to get close to her one time (I don’t know why that means so much to me). I hate travelling, but you better believe I am thinking about “how I can make a trip to Kentucky” from CA sometime in the future. Even though she is a magnificent animal, and I feel like “I love her”, I sometimes think or wonder if it’s a bit crazy to be so emotionally invested in somebody else’s horse. We were never allowed to have pets growing up, so I never had those bonds and experiences. So this is rather new for me. And very intense. Anyway, thanks for a provocative comment.

Dearest Z, You are one of the most fortunate equine athletes ever!!!! It would be impossible to say who loves you more or misses you more or enjoys all of the daily messages here the most :)! Suffice it to say you are one very special equine athlete! May God continue to bless and keep you and all those who care so much for you. Happy March!!

Zen…as you will soon find out…a father’s & mother’s love never dies! It just grows stronger. I know Jerry loves & misses you…in human terms, I bet you are considered
“Daddy’s Girl!”
XOXO
Ida Lee
Darling Queen, today I have been incredibly sad and crying a lot because the world lost its beloved polar bear Knut, he of legendary cuteness. He was truly TOO CUTE!! He was only 4. When I see this, I start worrying something will happen to you or Rachel or some of my other loved one and it just tears me up. Within a year, I’ve lost my dog and two cats to illness also. Sometimes, it feels like too much pain and loss. I pray for your well-being and safety every day. May the light of the Lord keep you safe, healthy and happy Beautiful Girl!

Such a bittersweet photo as others have noted. The stall should remain a shrine – and I too love the idea of it as a “Zenyatta Reflection Room” for charity! So as Mr. Moss reflects on the unseen presence in the room, perhaps he and Mrs. Moss might consider bringing Zenny home for every other year just to be close to her? No disrespect to Lane’s End, but does it have to be forever? Feeling the same old knot in my gut for missing her.
Jane
The wall hangings in one of Zenyatta’s stalls is beautiful and a little sad. I know when my horse left his stall I missed him very much. Zenyatta’s owner alone in her stall is touching. I know Z is on her way to a wonderful future but her dad probably still misses her past days. Gorgeous photo, a real keeper.
Jane
Dear Ida Lee,
I too have lost my cat and horse within the last year and how sad for the little bear. Please do not worry so about Zenyatta and her future and foal. Try to think of Zenyatta as I have. It was because of Zenyatta I went back to the barn and now work with a new and needy horse. Z has a special star, I think, she was born under. It gives me joy and a bright outlook for the future everytime I think of her accomplishments and new life and visit this website. Make new four legged friends, you can never replace your old pets and loved ones but you can help others that need you and in the circle of life they will help you. I’m chearing you on as I know your new friends will. God Bless You.
Paul
Hey, Zenyatta, I’ll bet that Jerry, your owner stands in your old barn 55 because it brings him back very fond memories of when you were there. How are you doing in foal? How is the contest doing? You are in very good care compared to what I heard about this place that has not taken good care of retired horses. Those horses would be alive and in far better shape if they had had the care and expertise that is available at Lane’s End Farm or anyplace like it.
Christine Coleman
Hi Zenny…love the picture of your owner. It tells me the Mosses truly love you and all their horses.
Love you Zenny
