Good Morning,
I am having a great deal of fun! Joe Drape, who writes for the NY TIMES, came to visit and did a wonderful article (Z in NY Times) about me for his paper. The photos are outstanding…if I say so myself. There is one showing my friends and I running in the paddock. (I’m in FRONT! Too cute!) WE are having a blast running in the snow and playing together each day!
Please enjoy the photos and the piece. JOE DID A GREAT JOB! He did an update on some of my recent ‘teasing’ activities. Also, as referenced in the article, I have had all of my proper vet checks…and I am a real ‘girly girl’…with all of my body parts in good-working order. In these photos, I think I look terrific…even though they say I’ve gained a bit of weight! Good thing I’ve got a nice, strong frame to carry it off so well!
Also, this is too cute! A travel agency has called the FARM and wanted to know if they could put me on ‘their tour list…as one of THINGS TO SEE WHILE IN KY’. I guess they think LOTS of people would like to come and see me! (I gotta’ love my fans. This is absolutely adorable and made my day!) I’m not sure how this could happen as the roads at the farm aren’t big enough to handle big tour buses…but I could not be more flattered!
Yesterday, Steve Haskin, his wife, Joan, and Lenny Shulman came to visit. I gather Steve and Joan were here on a business trip from their home base in New Jersey. It was great to see them! I’ve known Steve and Lenny (both write for THE BLOODHORSE Magazine) since I was just starting out on my racing career. They have been dear friends for years now! I am so fortunate to have so many dear FANS and FRIENDS!
Just a few days now until my CA FAMILY comes to visit. They will be so excited to see how well I’m doing with all of my new friends. I can’t wait!!!!!!
With Love,
Hugs to ALL!

For anyone who is interested, I played around with TrueNicks a bit tonight.
A++ Nicks were given to AP Indy or one of his sons. The cross of AP Indy over Machiavellian being extremely desirable. AP Indy would seem to be a shoe in, so long as he can get her in foal but if he can’t, a son such as Bernardini would probably be closely looked at as well.

Queen Z, You look fabulous in the NY Times article!!! Hope you love your life… Nite Nite!!!
Kim Noble
You are most certainly the thing to see in Kentucky- in all of North America actually. In fact, if I could pick just one incredible thing in this whole world to see, I would pick you.

Oh, that was so sweet what Karen Mitchell wrote about how you had made such a difference in her life since her husband passed away. I don’t know her but her post really touched me…God bless you Karen and give you peace that passeth understanding.
I know you can’t wait til this weekend to see everyone! I know Mike’s excited about the awards and he mentions every day on his FB page that they are so many days away! I hope he’s coming to see you too..he must be lonely. Enjoy every minute with your team and have treats and kisses to go around!!
The article was great!! I loved the pic of you and your friends…so good to see you just loving the open spaces!
I’ve made a date to see the awards at my daughter’s as I can’t get them so we’ll have a little party and the grandkids will be soooo excited too! I hope you have a front row seat there in the barn and you and your friends get to watch!!
Great to know you are happy…makes me happy! I know all the fans in CA are missing you and will be watching and cheering everyone…they are such great fans!

QUESTION/SUGGESTION:
+++After reading post on here referencing possible issues with visitors while horse(s) are in foal, how about installling a web cam in or near her stall and paddock. Boy, that would make HER fans happy.
+++Also, what are the knicks (or raw spot) where hair seems to missing in front area of Z (in NYT photos). Is this just normal pecking order nips with her girlfriends or something else. Thanks :)
Jackie
Good Evening Queen “Z” I think we are all holding our breath on who the Mosses are going to select for your mate. What a great article in the New York Times. I am sure your family can’t wait to see you! Have fun with them.
Good Luck on Monday. I can’t wait!
Hugs and Kisses
Renee
Nice photos in the NYT article! Why would anyone EVER charge you a stud fee??? Good luck Monday– I’m keeping my fingers crossed!
Gerrie P.
Hopefully, there will be a point in time when Zenyatta’s fans will be able to visit her once again. I am well aware it won’t be anytime soon.
She looks as beautiful as ever.
Thank you to Dottie and her family for keeping her close to her fans.

Just saw your photos and read the article in the NYT. Zenny, you are so beautiful in the close-up shot and you are so graceful playing and running with your posse. I’m wondering what caused the two raw spots in front of your body? Were you playing rough with your girl friends? You be careful and don’t hurt yourself.
The Eclipse Awards will be this Monday. I’ve been praying for your coronation as HOY. No horse has the kind of resume that you have.
Dawn Conrad
Hello, beautiful Zenyatta. DITTO, we love you too. Thank you Dottie for taking the time out of your very busy schedule to help Miss Z get another great diary post out before you leave for Florida. The article in the NY Times was great and the pictures are priceless. You and the “girls” look pretty fabulous. So happy that Steve Haskin, Joan and Lenny stopped by for a visit. I cannot wait to read Steve’s story about the day and of course an “And Their Off” segment with Lenny and Stable Boy. HOY is almost here and all my wishes are for you and Team Z to receive the recognition you so richly deserve. Time you all get to spend together prior to the event will be the perfect send off. Here’s hoping for a spectacular celebration together after Monday night. You have already received the biggest reward there is, however, and that is the pure love felt for you from near and far. You my wonderful girl are a star and have touched the hearts of thousands, many of which want nothing more than to see you in person. I have to admit Zenny that I have often found it sad that the greatest female champions in thoroughbred history have to literally disappear after their retirement. There are demonstrated exceptions to this of course. I have photographed broodmares and foals at some of the farms, including Serena’s Song. These very special moments were, however, controlled one on one encounters. The shear size of your fan base, while absolutely wonderful is also I’m sure the greatest challenge. I was unable to travel to CA or Breeder’s Cup, so I have to admit, no matter how much I understand and embrace the reasons for no visitors there is still a part of me that remains hopeful that some type of very limited access may come to fruition. Certainly the parameters would change from you at Barn 55 with Mario at your side and you at Lanes End with a gorgeous baby at your side. Kisses may have to be blown from afar rather than planted on your soft nose. Your gentle, curious and patient spirit has already allowed Team Z to chart new territory in the racehorse and fan relationship. By thinking outside the box, they have given us memories for a lifetime and have generated a breeze of fresh air across the thoroughbred industry. How special it will be for future generations to continue to be introduced to the magnificent thoroughbred through you? There are inherent dangers faced by broodmares, just as there were dangers on the track when you raced, so my greatest wish of all is for the angels to continue to watch over you. I will hold you close to my heart and dream of someday watching you on a summer day in your paddock just enjoying being a horse with the sun on your back and your dazzling dapples on display. Hugs, kisses and much, much love!
@Karen Mitchell – Your post was very touching. How wonderful that Zenyatta is part of those special times you and your husband shared. Peace and blessings to you.

@ L..Azeri has a colt on the track (or was) named Take Control (by Giant’s Causeway) who impressively won his only start to date? Bob Baffert has him. Have not heard anything about him for a bit though.
Zenyatta, I will be holding my breath while watching Monday night..GOOD LUCK, my Lady!!!

Good morning, Z and D.
I certainly hope it’s a bit warmer where you all are than where I am (New England). But..Z’s got that brand new fur coat I’ve been hearing about. :)
Happy Saturday. I know it, I feel it..HOY.
Take care.

Regarding AZERI/GINGER PUNCH,
.
AZERI has an ’08 Giants Causeway filly, foaled a Ghostzapper filly in 2009, a Distorted Humour filly in 2010 & as far as I know was bred to Deep Impact in Japan for 2011. GINGER PUNCH foaled a Bernardi filly last year & I thought she was going to Deep Impact as well.
.
@ RENEE,
Why WOULD’T anyone charge Zenyatta the stud fee? It’s a business, stallion onwers & the Mosses are both wealthy. None of the high end stallions ‘need’ Zenyatta but she needs one of them. They’ll breed 100 other mares so there’s no holes in their books.
William
Good luck on HOTY!! I hope you get it this year! WOW! Did you see how much your moneigh is going for on e-bay! Over 3400 I only wish I could afford to bid on it! Do you know if they’ll make reprints like they did the other painting you did?
We love you too Zenny!! William

Correction….
.
Azeri & Ginger Punch both ended up going to Zenno Rob Roy (it was initially announced Azeri would go to Deep Impact).

Dearest Zenyatta
Goodmorning Beautiful Girl. Just drinking my coffee and reading your daily dairy, thats the best way I have found to wake up ever. I don’t wake up well usually, because I’d rather stay in bed, wish I didn’t have to go to work…bla bla bla.
But waking up and reading your doings just put a smile on my face, silly huh. I don’t care…it works…
There is so much beauty, so much. I agree with ones writtings as I scrolled down to post my comment, someone wrote Zenyatta you are the most loved race horse in history and I had to write it again because I know in my time its true.
Zenyatta I Love You, and I wish for you many wonderful days.
Margaret Murphy
Foundest Z: My fingers and toes and arms are crossed hoping your going to be chosen as HOTY. We all know you are anyway but can’t wait to hear it announced. Planning my trip soon to see you in KY. Love you soooo much.
Kathryn Cogswell
Dear Dawn Conrad: YES! [For all my misgivings, yours is the hope I share — in fact, I`ll let you go in my place, if you send pictures & your tender commentaries.] Khc.

My Sweet Lady Zenyatta, That a GREAT article by Mr. Drape. The photos are outstanding and so is the article. Your friends are beautiful too. All the photos could be cards. I wish they would put you on greeting cards. You have so many wonderful photos to pick from and I know they would sell. I like how L.E. introduces all the mares to the stallions. That is so cool. Poor Capone. What a mean trick on him! I know he gets so excited to no avail. Zenyatta, you carry your weight well. You’ll look beautiful as an expected mom. Whoever they pick for you as Mr. Right will be the best because they have your best interest at heart. I know you’ll have an exciting weekend with all you guests and friends. I’m pulling so hard that you get HOTY! I hope and pray I get to see you one day. L.E. will set up whatever is best for you with visitation of your Fan Family. I applaude them on how they’ve handle you from the time you’ve gotten there. You really appear to be happy. That’s all that matters. I love you so much, Zenyatta. Be careful playing in the snow. Enjoy life as it comes to you. You have given all of your Fan Family so many memories from you just being yourself, Zenyatta! Hugs & Kisses From Alabama With Love, Amanda

ZENYATTA sure looks happy and she looks like she is doing very well !
“I’m happy for you “Z” ! “

The tour ideia is a good one Ive been trying to figure out how and when I could come and see you

I know that ZENYATTA’S connections never tire of all of our opinions (LOL !)but I can’t help but hope that ZENYATTA will be covered by A.P.INDY. There are a lot of excellent stallions, but due to the age of A.P. INDY ,time may be more urgent. This old bloodline is strong & sound & fast, it is also becoming very rare in 2011. ZENYATTA will have more than one foal during her breeding years & younger sires will always be available.

I read your statement about CURLIN. He is covering Mr. Jacksons mares because he IS a great stallion. CURLIN has some exceptional size and the bone to go with it, as well as an incredible race record that has yet to be bested. Actually , the cross to CURLIN’S pedigree for a future foal-he’s a young sire- would be a good thing to consider in the future.A lot of good race horses have come from that same cross.I LOVE CURLIN and he is very deserving to be in the breeding shed.

Hi L,
Appreciate the info on wild mares–had no idea! Felt the same way you did about Azeri (and Ginger Punch too).
Hi CAM,
I read a little about Azeri’s foals but cannot find out how to ask about her.
Thanks to both of you for responding!
