Hello Everyone!
It sounds like all of you are off to a busy 2011! Mine has started out wonderfully.
Dottie has been telling me about all of the questions you have. We will do our best to address as many of them as possible often in the Diary. We’ll start with these:
1) YES, Mario does know I’m playing in the MUD…and he is so happy for me. He knows I’ve wanted to roll in the mud for quite sometime. NOW I CAN REALLY GET PLAYFUL OUTSIDE! Very cute! Also, thanks for letting me know Mario has his own Facebook page now. I can’t wait to tell him! SURPRISE!
2) Steve is fine. He is working away at the barn and all is A-OK with him. Obviously, he misses me a whole bunch…as does Mario and the rest of Barn 55…but they are so happy for me. John does his best to keep them posted on my activities. All videos and photos are shared with them constantly!
3) John’s watch…is the IPOD Nano. It is a great tool and also a fun new ‘toy’ for John. Lucky guy, I can still be with him 24/7!
4) My future breeding plans. The Moss’ will announce them soon. Many different things will go into this decision. Everything will be finalized sometime in January. With the holiday, many people have been out of town. It is also fun for ME to ponder who my first date will be. Gotta’ love it!
5) Other breeding questions will be addressed when breeding season begins. The breeding sheds in KY do not open until mid-February. I probably will not be bred until late February. Believe me, I WILL KEEP YOU POSTED!
6) A Jockey question was asked…what does ‘throwing a cross mean’? Dottie has called my guy, MIKE SMITH, for this answer. Mike’s quotes will be used for this answer. They are touching base later today. FYI…Many have asked…and Mike is doing very well. Dottie and John saw him last night at dinner. He is planning a trip to come see me soon. Can’t wait!
7) Video of an interview…John did an interview with Susan Ashbrook of Equine Vip. She granted permission for Dottie to mention it in the Diary. You may find this interview by going to www.equinevip.com. It is the first interview that comes up. My JOHN will be standing there with Susan. (He says so many fabulous things about me and my heritage. He also notes how amazing the entire thoroughbred breed is and his love for the HORSE.) Very special! Please enjoy!
8) Rhonda pointed out that I was recognized as the #1 Female Race Horse of All Time…in a recent Sports Illustrated Article. You may find this piece by: 1) going to my web-page 2) clicking on the Facebook symbol in the right corner 3) that will take you directly to the page you need 4) scroll down the left hand column until you see the term LINKS 5) approximately 3 down is the story TOP FEMALE RACE HORSES OF ALL TIME. 6) Click on this title and YIPPEE…there I am with my owners! What an honor! There are some really amazing historical horses being honored in this piece….and they recognized me with the distinction of being #1! I can’t tell you how PROUD this makes me feel!
9) P.Q…many have asked about her breeding plans and things relating to her. From the beginning, I did ask permission to discuss her name in the Diary. Her owners were so gracious and said of course! Any other additional information, I will need to be polite and ask if I can discuss it. As she is not owned by my owners, we must respect her privacy at this time.
P.Q. and I are great friends…and we do get along beautifully. We have BONDED nicely!
Oh, I’m getting a phone call! Someone in my family is calling to TANGO with me! (Gotta’ get ready for my close-up!) Sending BIG HUGS!
With Love,
Z
Susan
Hi Z
I watched the video interview you mentioned and I just have to say that I think John Sherriffs probably has to be one of the kindest men in the world….he was certainly lucky to have you Zenyatta….and I know that you know how lucky you were to have him!I love looking at the pictures of you…you are so gorgeous.

Jack….thank you for your number. My husband tried to get Breyer’s Zenyatta for me for Christmas and he,too,is on a back order. The place he ordered it from said they could not guarantee it would come in but to check back with them. I do not have many Breyer’s horses but just a few of the special ones. My real horse family requires daily feed, care and love, they are worth every moment of the time I share with them.
Queen Z must be busy today probably having a good roll in the mud with her pasture mate.

Toomuch bickering on this post, not a good way to start the New Year. Ensign, thanks for the info on the breeding process I believe it was well-explained but you did post this several times before. Some of us are romantic by nature but we have to accept the fact that there is nothing romantic about the process.
To briancbright(sp?), nobody is blaming Blame for Z’s near win. We are all here to honor and recognize the Queen’s accomplishments. She rightfully deserves to be HOY.

Love you Zenyatta, miss you oh, I have a question. When will Lane’s End allow your fans to come and see you?
Gina Porter
Dear Zenyatta,
I will surely miss seeing you run on my tv screen. I was never able to get out to see you in person, but I am satisfied just to say i watched one of the greatest racehorses run. Thanks for all you have done for us and i hope you have a great time in retirement :)

Thanks for the updates. So you finally got to roll in some mud. lol wasn’t it fun?? Z, we really know that the only reason John got that new watch was so he could see “his best girl” any time of the day or night. ;) Glad you’ll get to see Mike again…give him a nice big kiss. I did just look at the wonderful interview Susan had with John. Wow, he is not only a World Class Trainer, but a World Class Gentleman..so glad you were with him.

Please, please, please, let’s not make this blog like so many others. This is Zenyatta Territory and bickering is not allowed by “Her Majesty”! :) If you don’t like a post just ignore it. We will all lose the joy of hearing about “our horse” if things get testy. This site is about joy and respect for a God-given horse named Zenyatta.

LAST NIGHT I CRACK THE DOOR ON THE SUBJECT ON THE BREEDING industry and my concern about Zenyatta welfare in the breeding shed. I speak not only for Zenyatta for hundreds of brood mares annual .
The jockey club guided and rules and regulations regarding breeding over all, are so far out dated itS UNBELIEVABLE the standard Breed Indstusy , quarter horse industry…not to mention the Arabic and Appaloosa Industries, have allow artificial insemination of brood mares for at least an decade or more.
Its high time the jockey club gilded and the thoroughbred industries over all revamps its rules and caught up to modern TECHNOLOGY . Could we only image if late great, Barabaro and Zenyetta had meant , that did Not happen , just image the foul of those two great horse’s, just to dream of that match, that could of been possible with artificial insemination, its time that the industries looks at the method for the horses and the possible of greatness to live on.

There are other sites to debate breeding practices. This is not the one.

Thank you janet, sharon, melissa, barbara wood and emmy for the kind words. I think we have now turned the corner for the better. We are all getting to know one another on here, which means understanding ones computer voice. It’s refreshing to see how most have come full circle….we all love Z equally and only want the best for her. For future reference, I will no longer acknowledge any poster who responds negatively towards another poster–it’s just not necessary to make a point.
P.S. Emmy-neophyte is a better description than “computer illiterate.” ;)
AND to Melissa-love your “Peanut Brittle” quote. :) too funny.
Happy Wednesday

hey Zenny i so have a perfect match for ya girly and he may be the only male race horse who is as good as you. Big Brown he almost won the triple crown and he only lost the belmont due to poor shoeing. He is as handsome as you are pretty to. oh and one thing Mike Smith if you are reading this well me is i think your #1 fan and though i have something odd to say to my mentor dont blame your self if Zenny would have been left one more full starid she would have been the one to have beaten Blame!!! and if you read this and still blmae your self i will cyber slap you lolz and plus i drew a picture of you and wished i could send it to you and it is so cool because your fetlock is long and it gives you a dramatic beautiful look darling girl and i am getting your Breyer woo hoo cant wait till it arrives. You may not have known this but i used to own your long lost brother his name was Chips but he died recently of a heart attack on 10-25-2010. Well kisses Zenny. Luv ya chica.
Your #1 fan,

Z, Elena & Dottie. . . THANK YOU!

Hi Z! First of all, I feel that there are some who are responding to your diary’s that should just appreciate the fact that you still are willing to share your life with us. It should not be anything else but that. Yes, Z, there are some interesting questions, which I have learned from. Do you think Mario is happy to see you happy rolling in the mud because he does not have to groom you? ha,ha Just kidding. I know everyone back at Barn 55 misses you and loves you.
I am proud of you to be named #1 mare race horse of all times in Sports Ill. because that is how I feel!! I will be disappointed for you if they don’t finally see, you are 2010 Horse of the Year. Should have been last year. I realize chosing your first mate is a very important decision and needs to be researched. Your team Z loves you so much and is hoping to carry on some of your beautiful qualities and add someone that is right for you; yet be an amazing race horse. They know much much more who should become your mate than I or anyone responding to this post. Oh, how great it will be for you to see Mike–he sure had the best rides of his life! (He has said that) But, he too knows that there is only one Zenyatta as I have learned watching you and going to see you race these past two years. I do have to thank my friend Susie for having TVG to see you earlier on; when I fell in love with you. We have been best friends for years, and because of my dear friend we went on quite a ride ourselves!! (Just to be and see you) Love n hugs

I had a mare twitched by a vet. It is painful if the horse moves and the area will become numb from lack of circulation if it stays on long enough. A twitch is a metal chain attached to a wooden handle at both ends. The chain is placed around the horses upper lip and twisted. This is more painful than a lip chain if the horse tries to move around. I also know lip chains are painful if a horse does not behave and I held a neighbors horse for a farrier with a lip chain. SHe badly needed her hooves trimmed. They curled up like elf shoes. Distracting a mare with carrots and using thickly padded boots is better. Storm Cat’s mares got boots.
