It is such a joy to see so many people head over heels in love with a horse – brings up many wonderful memories.
Any of you know which available stallion has the best record for producing the most sound, winning offspring? Z is perfection, and I’d love to see her soundness & longevity continue in her babies. Anybody know if Z’s pedigree “needs” more speed or distance?
Thanks Z and family for sharing with us.

To Emmy: I looked on the CNN website and I didn’t come across their Top 10 list either. If anyone knows would you please post the link. Thanks.

Happy New Year and Birthday Queen Z.
Carrot cake is wonderful! Here is a receipe that I always made for my horses on their birthdays-Jan one and the “real one”.
One coffee can of red bran
2 handfuls of sweet feed
2 red apples quartered
2 granny smith apples quartered
one T maple syrup or molasses (my ladies preferred maple syrup)
2 cups warm water (make it almost a slurry)
1 cup chopped carrots (optional)
My horses practically knocked me over getting to this and wouldn’t let me remove the “serving dish” until they had licked it clean.
To Charles, your personal groom, watch out for very sloppy kisses afterwards!!!!!
Diana
what a great year we got to spend with you. I cant wait to see what 2011 brings us and you. May this be the best year for you and all your team Z.
Joyce
To Linda,
I don’t think Zenyettas pedigree needs more speed, the other jockeys and trainers will have fainting spells if there is a faster horse that Queen Z (unless they own it of course). She blew all the other horses off the track as it was!!
After one of her races a jockey was interviewed and he said he was slugging and fighting through the stretch, the ground rumbled and then he was behind her, this is true I saw the interview. I think it was Joel Rosario who was in the lead until Mike told Z lets go. I often wondered and still do, How fast is she really, did Mike ever let her GO! Did we ever see her top speed? Someone ask Mike please!!!

You are suppose to have collard greens ($) and blackeyed peas (luck) on New Year’s Day. It’s a Southern tradition.

Two Long, Beautiful Galleries at SPORTS ILLUSTRATED! ‘ . .. Clear as button-hooks in the well water,’ [Mayor Shinn — Still in ‘The Music Man’ format, ‘Zen-Sen’]. ‘The #1 Greatest Race Mare of All Time Among the Ten Best’ & Step-By-Step Slides of Your Races. ~ There is never a way for words to decorate acts, ‘Z.’ The work is too close to the heart. But words may commemorate action, and that is clear, here, in tribute after tribute to your meaning. Perhaps the will to honor greatness is some sort of gift. I always thought Salieri blew it .. . he was entrusted by Mozart to notice a novel grandeur, but unable or unwilling to leave his own laurels, and quests. Those whose lives are enriched by awareness of you are fortunate. It is a gift, your guileless excellence. You just can`t help it. But humans have to notice, to honor it. And that`s what makes the difference. Khc.

Happy New year Zen. My horses . . . all retired like you, but with no breeding future because they’re geldings . . . are really enjoying the cold weather and snow as I know you are. I have one beautiful TB just your size, I talk to him about you often. He turned 18 yesterday, as you turned 7.
@Ensign: Thanks for the explanation. I should have mentioned that I wasn’t trying to be critical of you in any way. If it came across that way, I certainly appologize. I simply thought it would be nice to allow some of the wonderful fantasies many followers of Zenyatta have to continue. It makes them happy!
@Nancy: Thank you for your message, even though I have no idea what you were saying to me. Just so you know, I’ve checked many a horses leg in my days, and still do. I don’t think there is a facet of the buisiness I’m not reasonably familiar with. So my remarks to Ensign were not made out of ignorance. They were made out of compassion for the less knowledgable of Zenyatta’s many fans. The point I was trying to make is that the beautiful thing about Zenyatta and her most gracious connections is that they have attracted so many new people (mostly women) to the sport and to horses. These people love and fantasize about Zenyatta in different ways than most of we horsemen and horsewomen do. I’m just saying let them love her and think of her in their own way . . . many of them don’t really need to know the stark realities of breeding. I find their love of Zenyatta and fantasies quite wonderful. So if they occasionally attach human traits to her, what does it hurt? They aren’t going to handle her in the breeding shed. They aren’t responsible for her care and wellfare. Leave that to the pros at Lanes End. But again, allow these beautiful romantics to love her in a way no other horse has been loved. After all, there has never been another horse like her.
Happy New Year Nancy!

@VickieB
Thanks so much for sharing the link to SI greatest female
race horses of all time. Beautiful pic of The Mosses
and Z she looks so regal. The caption told it all except
Z came from 20 lengths behind to lose in a photo
finish. Unheard of. EFFORT COUNTS!!!!!! Z you are
the greatest!!!! Have a wonderful 2011!!!!
Nancy
@JJV
I appreciate your comments and clarification. Fantasy
and romance are wonderful. However, when Lanes End
and Team Z care of horse Zenyatta is misunderstood I feel it
should be put into reality. Ex: There was a lot of criticism of
the Lanes End barn. Folks need to be told the facts that this is one of the most beautiful high end barn in the country. To say she is not being treated well out of lack of education is not appropriate when she is
being treated like the true Queen she is. She is a very very
High maintenance horse !!!!! I personally don’t know much about
horse breeding and have appreciated hearing the reality and
care taken in breeding these very expensive animals.
Happy New Year !!!!
