Happy Monday to All!
It has truly been a very eventful few days. My foal and I are adjusting beautifully to our life together. He is quite smart, inquisitive, and charming ….if I say so myself. (Blush, Blush) I’m hearing others making these same statements about him…so I guess you could say I am in complete agreement with them!
Weather permitting, we spend time outdoors in the paddock together….and then we return to the barn for our evening’s rest. I am pleased to report that he is doing everything perfectly…just as a MOM would hope for a foal who is only a few days old.
I must say, I am having the most fabulous time being a MOM and just watching him…sleep, eat, play, and snuggle up to ME. It is an absolute JOY….and I could not be happier.
Just as with human babies, there is paperwork to be completed upon the birth of a foal. All of the proper information must be submitted to the Jockey Club for his JOCKEY CLUB PAPERS to be issued. These papers are a thoroughbred’s version of a human’s BIRTH CERTIFICATE.
Martha at Lane’s End is preparing his LIVE FOAL report this morning. Later after this information is processed, blood work will be provided and this will be used to properly verify he is definitely MY FOAL SIRED BY BERNARDINI. I.D. photos will be taken and submitted to the Horse Identification Department noting every single aspect of his body…color, white star, any other white hairs, or markings. All of these details are noted in a very explicit format. Such steps are completed with each foal that is born. ALL thoroughbreds are specifically identified and parentage qualified with the goal of keeping the integrity of our sport always operating at the highest levels.
You may remember my HORSE IDENTIFICATION PHOTO. I found it again for you. I was just a few months old at the time it was taken. Who ever thought it would be so much FUN to look at several years later.
Hmmmm! What do you think? Does he take after ME?
When all of these requirements are completed and verified, the Jockey Club will formally issue his CERTIFICATE OF FOAL REGISTRATION. This will follow my adorable little guy, just as a birth certificate does a human, throughout his life…when he races, travels, or whatever else he may do!
I also want to tell you that I checked in on TASTY this morning. She is ‘happily in foal’…and from all indications it appears she still has a few days to wait before she gives birth! I’m wishing her all the best! While he’s napping, I think I’ll send her a few ‘foaling pointers’….now that I’m such a PRO and have a bit of experience in this area!
Please enjoy your week!
With Love,
Hugs to All~ (I’m still in AWE of this entire MOM experience!)
Z….and her BABY! (How cute is that to say!)
This is SO SWEET!!
I just got the memo and the date is all set! SANTA ANITA is having LOS ANGELES’ LARGEST BABY SHOWER FOR ME and MY BABY this Saturday. How special is this!
The life-size painting of ME, THE QUEEN’S DANCE, which we unveiled during My Breeders’ Cup Party last year at Churchill Downs, is going to be on display. Jaime Corum, the artist who created the piece, and some members of my TEAM, will also be there to visit with fans.
The beautiful part of this is that MY SHOWER will honor some of the charities I have worked with during my career! My BABY and I are so fortunate, thus, it is truly my privilege to assist others who may need some help whenever I can!
I’m beginning to realize the ‘teaching part’ of being a MOM starts the minute the baby is born! Thank you for helping ME to illustrate to him the ‘gift of giving to others…comes in so many ways’.
Kaylee
I love your foal Z!! He is ssoooooo cute! <3

Happy belated birthday, Kaylee! Having been the recipient of one of Trina’s lovely poems, it is an honor and truly a precious gift of the heart. I don’t know how she does it, but she manages to make it special for each and every person. Her talent is amazing! Hope your day was great and that your year will be spectacular!

Hi Zenny: Please consider the name “Prince Star” for your beautiful baby boy. that is what I call him until he gets his permanent name. I loved your video on Bloodhorse, I needed a tissue when I was done viewing it. I really hope to see you someday when I am in Kentucky. And for sure, 2015, your big boy will win the Derby. I can’t wait!! that will surely make you a proud mom. If wonder if you are going to teach him some dance steps!!!! Then you both could dance together. Love, Carol and Joe

Thank you so much for the report on our dear TASTY too. We know you’ll keep us informed. DO pass along any pointers that will make her journey easier.
I think of all the JOY this has brought and am really thinking about our dear Kari today. I am sure she is very pleased!
Since I’m in TX and your baby shower is in CA,
I’m making my donation to Old Friends in you and Baby Z’s honor. I know the Mosses would approve of that.
Love you, dear ones.

Your colt is simply adorable, Zenny! I will never get tired of looking at photos of him. It will be fun to compare his foal identification photo with yours. :) He does look very much like you!
I will be at YOUR BABY SHOWER this Saturday! It is also The Second Race’s “Day at the Races” so there will be lots to celebrate! I’d better wear my running shoes, since our group is in the infield and YOUR TEAM will probably be in the paddock gardens! I heard that the track will be giving away posters, too. I can’t wait to see the life-size painting of YOU for the first time!
Give Tasty a kiss (if you can spare any from that little guy … he is just made for kissing, isn’t he?) and tell her how it’s done :)
harriett (Oklahoma)
What a great idea the shower is! You are the most philanthropic horse ever! Your charity work has been the stuff of legends, as is everything you do!

Oh Z he is adorable!!! I am so glad for you! He looks so much like you!!!! You are such a good mama! Just dont let him try to nibble on any electric fences….my old mare’s foal wanted to know how that shiney string tasted and got a big zap! I felt so bad for him! But have fun at your baby shower!!!

Anything happen while I was weekending in San Diego?
Joking!! Thank heaven, my daughter has a smart phone.
However, was not easy getting info–the Z site kept crashing.
We were able to see the HRTV video-so very special.
What an adorable colt!
I sat in a restaurant by the bay & watched the full moon rise over the city.
It was spectacular. Also saw dolphins & seals feeding in the bay.
Still catching up on posts. Auntie Judy, thank you for sharing the
story of your husband & John Henry. Touched my heart.
I know how much you have been anticipating this foal.
You must be literally over the moon.
Happy Monday!

I saw the HRTV video of you and your colt Zenyatta.. I was smiling ear to ear… It is so obvious the love you have for your foal in that video.. you are a natural when it comes to motherhood.. It was funny on Saturday when I went to work.. I have a co worker who never has forgotten your stretch run vs Blame in the breeders cup classic.. He isnt much of a Horse Racing fan but he knows about you.. I couldnt wait to tell him that you had your foal.. I was getting ready to leave work (getting my stuff out of my locker) and saw him in the breakroom.. All I said was “Joseph, She had the baby” and he knew what I was talking about.. I swear you are the only thing that we talk about..

Being a mom is the greatest gift that I believe God gives to mothers. Babies are so precious. You have a beautiful heart and soul Queen Z. I am so sure the your foal will carry that on. Have you thought of a name yet? Please tell Tasty we are foal watching again for her and can’t wait to hear about her bundle of joy. Have a wonderful week!
Stephanie
Thank you for the Tasty Update! We all have come to love Tasty too and hoping to her see Candy Ride Foal Soon. Will you guys be in the same paddock when her foal arrives!!
Little Z is too cute- Just love him!!
Thanks again for the great updates!!
signofthetimes
Yes, same paddock, mares stay in groups after the foal to
Help each other out; the boys don’t like each other so they
Have separate paddocks; they don’t play on the same team.

Signofthetimes,
What a perfect way to put it. Do you know, is it better with geldings?
signofthetimes
Geldings get along with all horses, mares and stallions. I really love geldings because they are so very manly, but not macho. They are also more often than not mild mannered and easy to get along with.
The amazing thing is broodmares are a very different bunch of girls than
mares who are not breeding. Mares who are not breeding don’t seem to get along well, but put in a gelding and they are very happy. Of course a stallion would make things a little hormonal. My gelding got along so very well with any horse. Never put his ears back and was very sociable with people and other horses. We had a hussy mare that always used to come up to him “hey big boy you want to play”, and he was very ready. He always loved to have a girlfriend, of course a platonic relationship, but it was filled with mare and gelding behavior that was very endearing. He would always herd his mares away from everyone and keep her for himself. Horse behavior is so very precious and expressive. They say so much with their body, eyes and mannerisms that some how you wonder how did I miss that??? Lovely Lovely Lovely creatures. They make humans forget all their cares and worries, too.
Stephanie
Thanks! Great to know that we could get pics of Zenyatta and Tasty with their Foals!!
Paulette Canam
Do you have a name for your beautiful boy yet.
signofthetimes
The Mosses are working on that, will probably be awhile;
Not like humans, they like to get a feel for the foals
Personality. Most goals never get a name until sold at their
Yearling sail. Lots of thought and discussion will
Go into this name.
Patricia/Far northern CA
Paulette,
Anxious as we all are to find out this colt’s name, he doesn’t really HAVE to have one until he’s ready to race… sometimes the owners will be selling the foal in one of the weanling or yearling auctions, even the 2-year-olds in training sales… in these cases they leave the naming to the new owner or the one who will own it when it starts for the first time. As you’ll recall, Zenny herself didn’t get her Name until she was at the training farm where she “went to school” to learn to be a racehorse. And it was perfect, worth the wait!
I’m sure the Mosses have a list of names for their foals, and have a handful of good ones for this precious boy… but for now we’ll just have to wait… be patient… offer suggestions… and when the name is announced it will be a special one, just right for him.
@ Elizabeth in Oregon— SALUKI person— I think I saw a photo of your new little guy on a Saluki chat list, is he a grizzle? Mine is the black-and-tan of the same age whose photo was shared on that list a few days ago. I co-own her… she’s a real doozy. Nickname is “Jazi”
Okay, Zenny, please tell Tasty we all send our best wishes and kisses, and hope her foaling is soon, and as easy as yours was.
I KNEW you’d be a great mom, as good as you have always been with people and other critters of all sizes. Maybe Sophie can come with the Mosses the next time they visit?
Your beautiful personality and disposition has got to come some from your dad, Street Cry, as his son Street Sense seems to have a real affection for his own people. I don’t know anything about Street Cry himself (except he was a fine racehorse and is proving to be a wonderful sire)… but the video they showed on HRTV of Street Sense at Darley was very entertaining.
Hmmmm, I would not be surprised to hear that Sh. Moh. has a $tanding offer with a lot of zeroes behind it for your baby, Zenny… a son of his Bernardini from a daughter of his Street Cry? Talk about a priceless treasure!! But of course the Mosses will keep him, and we should be able to see him at Barn 55 in 2014 … what a prospect! Can we wait that long?
We’re in for a blustery week here in far northern California, hope your weather is fine so you and that gorgeous boy can have lots of quality time in the sunshine and fresh air. He’ll show so many changes just in the first week— they grow so fast!! No more walking under Mom’s belly… and those long legs just seem to unfold more and more. How exciting.
Patricia
Pati-Professional Pacer
Well until he gets a name, we can just call him The Prince. ;-) And then we will continue to call him The Prince long after he has a name.
Debra M also in far North CA
Patricia,
Looks like we’re in the same area of N. Cal!
Naming those babies are just about the only great perk an owner can get! I always wait to get a feel for them before I do it.
Their nick names just seem to happen and they always fit them. This year I made an effort to have their racing names fit their nicknames closer. It confuses their trainer when I call them one thing and he knows them by another!
Liz Carlin
Blessings to you and your foal. He’s such an adorable little guy. I’m so looking forward to following his career, and I love reading your diary. Thanks for sharing Tasty’s news too. I’m anxious to see her baby as well. Will you two still be paddock mates? Hugs and kisses for both of you, you are a WONDERFUL mom!! Love from Tennessee.

So Happy that you’re HAPPY and you and your baby are doing so well. Terrific idea about YOUR shower and helping charities. Thanks to your families for letting us know all these things and for the wonderful pictures. Good wishes to Tasty and special thanks to Dottie. Love and extra hugs to you and that beautiful baby!
