Hello from LANE’S END!
Happy Monday everyone! It was a very pleasant and normal weekend here at the farm. My body is still making ‘gradual and steady’ progress in its’ pre-foaling changes….but there isn’t any other news to report at this time.
In Lexington, we had 4 inches of snow fall and it is absolutely gorgeous outside. It suddenly occurred to ME while walking in my paddock earlier today that if HANSEN (by Tapit) was out playing in the snow like this, he’d blend right into the environment. He is so handsome…and so WHITE in color. I thought he ran a fabulous race in The Gotham (G3) on Saturday. It is wonderful to see a 2 year old champion remain in top form when returning for his 3 year old campaign.
Dottie shared with ME how concerned you are about ‘my status’. She commented that many people stopped her on Saturday while at Santa Anita to ask about ME…when I’m going to have my foal…and my general well-being! She thought it was so special when several had their iPads and phones in hand…constantly checking the web-site for ‘any news’. You are all TOO CUTE! Thank you for your loving interest and concern!
I hope you had a great time following the racing all over the country this weekend…and if you were in California…the almost 90 degree weather outdoors. Today, marks the beginning of the 2 YEAR OLD IN-TRAINING SALES for our industry. The first one takes place in Pomona, CA this evening at BARRETTS. The sales prices, figures, and overall statistics will be used to study the ‘climate’ of our industry in so many ways. Good Luck to all of the sales horses and their connections. HAPPY BIDDING!
Until tomorrow…….
With Love,
Hugs to All~

Zenyatta, with a Waxing Gibbous 93% Full, I’d say you are going to have your foal fairly soon, if the moon affects horses like it does humans. Will be interesting to see if you drop your foal on the Full Moon. Sounds like you are closer to a due date than Tasty. Would be cute if your foals could play together. Stay warm. .

So exciting! Thanks for letting us know!

Hi Zenny: Wow this photo is beautiful of you and your surroundings. I am getting very excited Zenny. I bet your Mom and Dad — Mr. & Mrs. Moss are there with you anxiously awaiting the arrival of little Z.
Love you Zenny.
Sue MacGray
That’s why I checked in today Z, to see how you’re doing and for any news :) We’re ALL waiting for the big day and it could be just about any moment now….. It’s SO exciting!!
Take care of yourself now, be careful in all of that snow. I hope someone’s keeping an eye on you, but I suppose you’re not running around now like you were when you first arrived at Lane’s End. One of my favorite videos of you is the one with you and Mario and John and Dottie and the Mosses where you’re kicking up your heels and running in the snow at Lane’s End. I suppose you’re a lot more relaxed these days :)
Paula Higgins
Well, after reading most of the posts, I can see that we are all anxiously awaiting The Queen’s new arrival. I pray that she has a safe delivery and that Z junior is healthy. Cannot believe the moment is almost here. She will be a great mother. I just know it. Any horse that was so kind to humans, can only be a devoted mother to her foal.
Barbara Wood (Texas)
@Margaret– we don’t want you to leave. I re-read through the posts, and I couldn’t find what started the controversy. (But I had an eye appt. today, and my eyes are still blourry from that). Anyway, hope you are feeling better.
@Shari Voltz– I didn’t order a plushie, so maybe i shouldn’t even be in the conversation, but I’m wondering something. If the cards sdidn’t come from Dottie, Z., or Ann, maybe they came from Lane’s End if people sent them Christmas cards or something like that. In 2010, I sent our John a Christmas card at what I thought was the mailing address for Barn 55, but it came back months later. Turns out I had the wrong address. that’s the only thing I can think of that might account for the correct addresses–the fact that they were provided to LE.
@Louise–we are glad we lifted your burden slightly, if only momentarily. That’s what we’re here for. Hugs.
Dearest Z–I love this picture of you with your big baby tummy. You will be much lighter soon, I promise.
Barbara Wood (Texas)
I’m embarrassed by my typos! Aaugh!! Please excuse.

We should have a Z rule.
Use the correction tape in our heads–it would save time & typing
The one improvement I would make to the site would be
an Edit after posting or even a Delete.

Dear Abigail:
Your Daisy Doodlebug is Too Cute. Hugs, JB
Abigail from Montreal
Dearest Zenny & Tasty:
As you snuggle down in your gorgeous stalls for the night, Auntie Abigail (& Daisy) thought you might like a bedtime story. Here goes….
DOODLEBUG TALES (the first in a series that promises to be lengthly!)
Over the last month, I have come home twice to find first my portable house phone, and then my cell phone, on Daisy Doodlebug’s bed. The first time, I thought she might have chewed it up. But, no, it was in PERFECT condition. Ditto the second time, re: the cell phone.
But what made the “cell phone incident” especially interesting was that I had been out with my son and we got separated in a shopping mall. He had called me on my cell phone but I had left it at home. So, when I saw the cell on the Doodlebug’s bed, I wondered if she was trying to answer it……but, then, not wanting to encourage thoughts of middle-aged ladies besotted by their pets, I shelved the thought.
A week ago, Daisy Doodlebug & her friend Abigail were getting ready for their afternoon walk. Daisy was all tacked up, sitting by the door to watch the “production” of Abigail getting ready to brave the elements: hat, sunglasses, scarf, coat, socks, boots, gloves and so forth.
Then the phone rang. I muttered an expletive, since my boots were on & the phone was in the living room. At which point, the Doodlebug turned, trotted off and returned with the phone in her mouth. She laid it gently at my feet.
I was so stunned I didn’t even answer the phone! And when I told the story to a few friends, they were equally astonished. BUT, when my son & I tried to get Daisy to do it again, she looked at us as though someone had dropped us on our heads.
Until today.
Abigail was “indisposed” and the phone started to ring. When I went into the living room, there was the Doodlebug, lying down & holding the phone tenderly in her front paws, with her head on the “why-do-you-ring-like-that” tilt.
Now, if I can just teach her to actually answer my phonecalls…….
LOVE & HUGS TO ALL
Sierra (is trying not to pace)
That is so cute! I hope Tasty and Z loved the bedtime story!
Abigail from Montreal
Thanks Sierra!

Dear friend, Abigail. I am sure Zenny and Tasty are going to love this bedtime story, I know I do!! Daisy Doodlebug is just way too cute. I am sure if you keep working on it, she will be answering that cell phone in no time.
Love and hugs,
Dawn

Sweet Dawn: I’m glad you think OUR GIRLS will appreciate it. As Zenny would say: TOO CUTE! We will keep on working on this skill, though. I’m thinking of spreading peanut butter on the TALK BUTTON…..

Now, this goes to a very special story in Phoenix.
Huffington Post
An elderly Arizona woman and author who suffered a harsh fall last Friday is alive and recovering at a nearby hospital thanks to her service dog Danny, who not only helped her regain consciousness but also brought her the tools she needed to call for help, ABC News reports. An author and dog-lover from Glendale, Arizona, Bennett writes stories about the foster dogs she takes in under the penname “Bessie Mac,” according to ABC News 15 Arizona.
Last Friday, one of the foster dogs — a Miniature Schnauzer named Danny — returned Bennett’s favor by saving her life. After slipping on a tile floor and breaking her femur on Friday, Bennett lay unconscious on the floor of her home. She woke up after being licked by Danny and remembered that no visitors were scheduled to arrive until the following Tuesday.
“I was scared. I really thought I was going to die,” Bennett told ABC News. That’s when Danny sprang into action, knocking over the telephone and nudging toward Bennett. When she asked him to bring her paper, Danny brought over five pieces, including one with neighbors’ phone numbers.
Bennett called 911 and then neighbors, who located a spare key and let paramedics into the house. She was then rushed to Banner Thunderbird Medical Center in Glendale, where she is now in recovery.

Now she plans to tell Danny’s story in the next installment of her “Forever Home” series. According to the series’ website, Bennett has been an animal-lover since childhood and after taking in foster animals from the Arizona Schnauzer rescue. In a blog post, Bennett wrote of the joy she experiences taking in dogs like Danny:
“The joy and love that each of [the dogs] has brought to my life is unexplainable. It is always hard to let them go on to their forever homes, but when they come to you sad, broken-hearted dogs and leave as happy, playful dogs to their forever homes, it’s such a great feeling. My volunteering friend sent me on a journey that has truly been a blessing. Fostering rescue dogs has given me a greater depth of understanding the true meanings of unconditional love, loyalty, responsibility, and trust.”

Zenyatta halter on ebay! I’m sure someone has already posted this, but the top bid is only $405. so far. I was shocked to see it that low.
Does anyone know if Vertigneux, or RA’s mama, Lotta Kim, have had their foals yet?

Dear J. Smith:
Sadly, Nancy, one of the Z’sters posted that Vertigineux is not in foal to Street Cry. She contacted Ashford Stud and was told the mating last year was not successful. But, they indicated that Vertigineux and Street Cry were bred again recently. So hopefully next year there will be a full sibling to Z. Hugs, JB

Zenny, I have been pondering and it just got worse this evening. Zenny I will just be the happiest person in the world no matter what you have Filly or Colt. But, Z I said it got worse because in my emails tonignt I got one from Secretariat.com. and they are going to sell pictures of Secretariat when he was 3 months old. Z he is beautiful. I think I’m was just sitting here just spell bound. You know how much I love Indy and Secretariat I don’t know I just findmyself hoping a little that you have a Colt. I kind of feel a little guilty but my hearts just thinking about a colt.
No matter what you have Z just God Given (A gift)
It’s close Zenny, Love Ya
Dawn Conrad / Colorado
Dear “Sis”, first, I have to apologize Peggy. When I was going through my e-mails tonight, I found an old one that you had sent me in a seperate file. I think I must have sent it on from work meaning to reply. Don’t ask me what happened from there, so much for good intentions. I am very sorry!!! Geez!
Second, once again we are in perfect sync. This is amazing. I received that very same e-mail from Secretariat.com today and I love the photo! I was looking at it tonight and thinking about ordering one. I had always seen the one where there is a side view of Secretariat. They said this one is a new release. I have several things already signed by Penny Chenery, but I might have to get the signed one too. We will see.
I have some wonderful pictures I took when I was at the Meadow, Secretariat’s birthplace and some pictures of Indy too. If you would like I will send them to you. Let me know. And yes, I do have your e-mail address!
Love and hugs,
Dawn
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Hey Dawn, if this posts twice I am sorry. I got an error message don’t know it it went through. Wasn’t that picture of Secretariat beautiful. I think it was because it was a frontal shot. I had not seen it either. Isn’t that face just breathtaking, no words to describe it. I am going to have to get that one and signed by Penny.
Yes I would love to see those pictures. That must have been a fantastic trip to see the Meadow. I would love to go there. Blessings, Peggy
Stephanie in San Diego (been call but now pacing with everyone else..)
Ok….I have been excited but had been fairly composed, checking in a few times a day but staying pretty level. THEN…..last night I had a dream (one of those that you are just sure you are awake, even dreamed I got up and was getting ready for work) and you were a mommy with a precious little one. A perfect little one wrapped in solid bay wrapper. Filly – Colt that I do not know…but everyone was so in awe of the beautiful foal you and Bernie had produced. When the alarm went off…I had to check the diary and my email before I could even get my first cup of coffee.
Since then….I have been checking in every hour.
So….I have joined the ranks of the “mildly” obsessed. :))))
The good new was when I did check my facebook page early this morning…I did get to see the most beautiful picture of Lanes End. Christmas Card perfect.
xoxo Love to all and extra special prayers for Dear Zenny.

JAG, I understand where you are coming from. It is now 12:30AM March 6 in North Central Indiana, and no foal yet, that we know of. I had never said it publicly before, I was hoping for the 5th, my Dad’s birthday. He would have been 80 on the 5th. He is the one who taught me and shared with me the love of horses. Now I am hoping for the 9th, for John Henry, who I also loved, and because I know you want it so badly. Love Darlene

My love for horses came from my late husband, John, who liked John Henry, but never got to meet him in person. I met John Henry on behalf of my late husband, hence, the full circle of love… so to speak! The 8th would be nice, too – INFINITY!! I’m a number’s kind of girl LOL
