Happy Friday!
The weather in Lexington has been quite ‘active’ lately and we’ve had several storm warnings. This part of my life is so different than anything I ever experienced in California. Lane’s End is exceptionally careful with us when this happens and our time outdoors is very structured and limited….if at all. Everything depends on the weather conditions and our safety.
Fortunately, TASTY and I love our stalls and are very comfy and cozy indoors. We do hope it clears up soon. This way we can get back into our ‘spending time outdoors routine’ …and things will be safer for everyone.
My days of ‘traveling alone…without a foal by my side’ are becoming more and more monitored. As of this morning, per the farm, my ‘bag’ is getting a bit larger. It is making all of the gradual changes necessary to increase in size…and I am ‘waxing a bit’. This all pertains to my udder and milk production levels which are consistently and carefully recorded all of the time now.
I must say, I never thought the words ‘bagging’ and ‘waxing’ would take on such great importance in my life! However, I have now learned when a mare is getting ready to foal…these terms become extremely significant!
From today’s report, it appears I am still on target to foal ‘sometime next week’…but nature is nature. I’ll keep you posted! As I’ve said so many times before, this is all so NEW TO ME! Thank you for your support!
This morning, my pals at BARN 55 wanted to send ME some fun….THINKING OF YOU…photos. They are wearing my NEW T-SHIRT and sending ME lots of hugs, warm greetings, and positive thoughts. They always do…but as it is getting closer and closer to my foaling experience….they really wanted to reinforce these thoughts and tell ME how much they care, think of ME, and MISS ME!
I miss you guys too….all of you….more than I can say!
So many stakes races are running the next few days…it is very busy! As always, I wish all of the horses running and their connections a wonderful time and lots of success! I’ll be really tuning into the Grade 1 races running at Santa Anita on Saturday and the Gotham for 3 year olds at Aqueduct. Focussing on racing over the weekend will not only be fun, but it will help to keep my mind busy!
With Love,
Hugs to All~(Thank you, everyone, for thinking of ME!)
Z
On a very serious note….. A special hug and prayer is needed for one of my other BARN 55 pals, Dr. Leslie… who checked in on ME often when I was in California. She had a skiing accident yesterday and all of our prayers are with her at this time!
Chloe Z.
Hey Zenny, any day now right? Can you wait to see your little filly or colt? I can’t wait to see you and your little foal! Bet you will make a great mom. I think your foal will come sooner than you think, but don’t worry,it will just fine. I love you little cuttie pie.

Forgot to mention this horse racing site, Thoroughbred Daily News. It’s excellent, free & usually features videos on races around North America in a BALANCED fashion, as well as worldwide racing news coverage. It’s my favourite source at present & I thought some of you might really enjoy it:

@Abigail: Hope you are feeling better. Yes, TDN is a great daily – I recommend it to everyone. I got my original free “subscription” when I subscribed to Blood Horse. I love it and the news and results and entries are from all over the world. “Try it, you’ll like it!”

And who’s the grey mare….Pirate Queen?
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Abigail:
These are the very first photos I’ve ever seen of the Lane’s End foaling barn. The little darling in photo #3 has what looks like a light colored saddle patch. I think it’s a reflection from the sunlight. I love No. 5 of the little one looking into the camera. They’re all so adorable. Made out the names on one of the stalls, Dream Supreme by Seeking The Gold out of Spinning Round.
Someone posted (can’t remember who) on an earlier Diary that the Gray mare is Pirate Queen with her new foal. Don’t remember her being that light in color, but grays do change from dark to light it seems as they get older.
Thank you for these very rare photos. Love and Hugs, JB
Abigail from Montreal
Ohhh. It IS Pirate Queen? I’m SO GLAD to see her with her new baby! As for the foaling stalls, I didn’t realize they were totally …. see-through. Now I understand how the 24-hour foal watch is feasible since you can see everything that’s going on at a glance. Nice for the other mares-in-waiting too because Tasty, being opposite Zenny, WILL BE RIGHT THERE WHEN HER BFF FOALS!!!!

Dear Abigail:
Not entirely sure that is Pirate Queen. Might be. Hugs, JB

What an absolute joy and pleasure it was to meet Sharon in Seattle yesterday at Santa Anita, along with the usual ‘crazys’ dumplings! (JAG, are you lurking out there somewhere …mmm!) I learned that Sharon rides the choo-choo – like me, does not fly – and loves to take the train everywhere! She is such an easy-going, lovable dumpling and funny too! High Hoof Sharon! Have a great day today at Santa Anita, wish I could be there with you today! Hope you run into other ‘crazys’ out there today to make your day more enjoyable! As usual, I could not find a single dumpling after the last race to give hugs and say goodbye! :( I usually run into Lisa B. stuffing her face with food walking out to the parking lot to our cars, but no sight of her and hubby John either! She says she loves to eat and is always hungry – but to look at her you’d never know it – a tiny, perfect figured gal! Have a happy day today everyone!
The Kennedys in San Diego
Great to see you there yesterday, Karen. And,of course, Judy, Trina, Sharon, Jane and others. We missed you, Terry Crow.
What a great day! Our friends’ 3 year old filly by Kafwain, Your Special Day, ran well in the Las Virgenes Stakes but did not hit the boards. Mike Smith was her jockey. We were hoping to go to the Winner’s Circle for another “Win Photo” for our collection. But the day was wonderful — great racing, sunny skies and 80 degrees. It doesn’t get better than that.

Sorry I wasn’t there as it is always a pleasure to meet with and to be with the Kennedys. Unfortunately for me, as the old joke goes, if it took $10.00 to go around the world I couldn’t get out of sight.

Photography day @ Santa Anita this Friday everyone. Just what I need, 100’s more pix of horses to add the the 1000’s I already have. It’s really fun, if u haven’t been before, I highly recommend it.

Good afternoon all (good morning to my West Coast Z’sters). Wow — poor Mike sure did have a disappointing day yesterday, didn’t he? And did anyone see Kenichi almost go over on TOP of him in the 4th when they were loading the horses into the gate???? SCARY!!!!!!!
I was SOOOOO disappointed that Mr. Commons got nosed out in the Kilroe. A few more jumps to the wire and he would have gotten the win. Mike did his best, though.
Well, OUR QUEEN, will today be the day? Tomorrow? We are all DYING here! I am too lazy to scroll back up and see who said it but the “having the foal before 3 am on the 9th would make it still the 8th on the West Coast”………..what a GREAT idea!
Zenny, take good care and we love you!!!!!

For those dumplings who knew of my daughters big 30 birthday bash last night after a loong day at the races – I survived, yeah right!! Did not KNOW that it was a dress-up party! (kids nowadays! Geez, I’m a mind reader? As usual, did not tell mom!) I changed clothes, running late! but forgot to take off my Z neckless. And as soon as I walked in, everyone of my daughter’s friends that I met oohh and ahhed over that neckless and KNEW of you girl!! and they wanted to know if you had your foal!!!! I KNOW! GO FIGURE!! WOW! Could of knocked me over with a feather! As soon as I picked up my jaw off the floor, it hit like a ton of bricks! my daughters boyfriend (whom I had not met – seems like they change boyfriends like they do clothes!) was a very charming young man … he proceeded to tell me about a co-worker of his whose grandmother owns thoroughbreds and races them! He will find out for me what stable-farm. And he wants to take some of his friends out to the races now and to his co-workers farm! How about that girl!? Anything to get the youngins’ out to the track! We talked for awhile about racing and you, how thrilling it was, I could have talked of you all day long! and how there was so much to do at the track to have fun, and meet new people. Well, needless to say, I left after that, and went home, showered and dolled up! TA-DUH! Unrecognizable me! I ‘cleaned up good! WHO KNEW!? (4 inch heels no less! OMG ZENNY! ’bout ‘killed’ myself walking in those dangerous foo-foo things!) Zenny, you’d be proud of me girl! I danced the night away – well, er, something like that anyway! Doing the ‘Zenyatta’ is not all that easy for this ole broad in spikes! YIKEES! But I kept up and came through the stretch like gangbusters! Sat and bawled like a baby watching slide show of my daughter, from newborn to adult (she thinks she is! LOL! NOT!) All-in-all, a great time was had. Even though my face and eyes are three times the size of a balloon from crying, and my body is as stiff as that jockey was in the last race I bet on … you never know who, when, or where one will be able to talk horse racing and of YOU GIRL! Now I’ll have a day and night like that anytime! WHO KNEW!? Love you big momma and baby to be too! oXXooXXoo ♥

Woo Hoo Karen!!! Sounds like a really good time for you and how could you choose which of “your girls” to talk about? :)

Karen what an absolutely HILARIOUS (yet touching) story!!!! Unfortunately I know all too well about those 4″ heels (actually mine are 5″!) and “what was I THINKING?” LOL!

haha! Let me tell you, it was no easy feat!!! With the added extra pounds (hmmm … OK … a lots of extra packed on the bones!) and trying to squeeze and struggle into the panty hose – it’s like having to lie down and close a zipper! or squeezing out the last bit of tooth paste from a tube, try as you might, you are just not strong enough! – huffin’ and a puffin’ wheww! well! I must of lost 10 pounds right there!! But I had to get rid of the jiggle butt somehow!! What better way than too small panty hose to firm up the jiggles!?

A Birthday Poem for Kim in Louisville
(March 4, 2012)
Our dear Kim
Felt how the light
Of the world dimmed
When Kari from this world passed
To become at last
A new star
So bright
Still shining to us from afar
Though we be surrounded by night.
Kim shared with us touching words
Of how Kari her heart had stirred
And thanked Kari for how she did grace
Zenyatta’s site
In so many ways.
Kim looks forward to those future days
When she Kari will meet
Face to face
At the feet
Of the heavenly host.
Kim says that for the most part
She herself prefers “just to graze”
And not to post,
So we are especially grateful
That Kim in that post
Her soul bared
And her loving heart
With us shared.
Dearest Kim,
To you we now drink a birthday toast
With our glasses filled to the brim!
Happy birthday, Kim, and many, many more!

Hi everyone! I had a question for all of you. I know most of you have Z’s plushie but who here as her breyer model horse? I know I have it along with Rachel Alexandra’s on too! I wish there was a Tasty one though…
Debbie G/Kentucky
I have Z’s Breyer horse, Sierra. My stepfather collects Breyers so I bought him Z’s model for his birthday, but I loved it so much I kept it for myself! I did break down and buy another one for him, though. It’s really beautiful, isn’t it? I don’t have Rachel’s, but I think I’ll get one. I love her, too.
Sierra (Is trying not to pace)
They are really beautiful I am hoping to take mine to a show soon. I can’t wait to show her and see how she does.
Debbie G/Kentucky
I didn’t know they had Breyer shows. How cool. I don’t see how anyone could beat Zenyatta! Let us know how you do.
Sierra (Is trying not to pace)
They are tons of fun! Plus there are usually lots of Z’s there. But mine even has here amazing dapples. My friend who has been showing for years said that is the best Z she has seen yet so fingers crossed. I don’t see how anyone could beat her though because well it is Z and I give her a bath almost every single day because I play with her so much she gets finger prints all over her. But that just shows how much I love her! I also have two foals at the ready to customize once little Z is born. One is a filly and the other is a colt! I am so excited!
Debbie G/Kentucky
I didn’t realize there were different versions of the Breyer horses. The two I bought looked exactly the same. It won’t be long until you’ll be customizing your little foal. It really is exciting waiting to see what Z has isn’t it? I can’t wait!
JSmith SO CAL
Sierra, when you customize your foal, can you take a pic of your Z & foal and post for us? Would love to see them, The shows do sound like fun, I didn’t know they had such things either. I’ve seen the Breyer races on You Tube, some of those are really funny. Good luck if you do show her, and I agree, it is Z, how could she not win!
Sierra
I will make sure to post it! It might be a while though as I have to prep it and get the right paints.
Barbara Wood (Texas)
I got one for Christmas.
Kim S in Tampa FL
Sierra, I have a Zenyatta Breyer and like Debbie G didn’t know there were different versions so I will have to take a closer look at mine to see if she has dapples. Mine is still in the box so I may have to take her out. Would love to hear more about the Breyer shows.
Sierra
It is pretty cool actually. My friend and I compared ours and it turned out mine was even a little bit taller.
Margaret
Sierra I’ll answer this. I have about 25 models. I just got Hickstead last week. What a beauty.
And Z. What’s interesting about my model is she’s about the same height as the others, but is more narrow in the girth. She has much LONGER legs so I don’t play with her cause I’m afraid of breaking a leg.
I’m attempting to say at ease but I’m afraid I’m losing the battle to stay calm! Geez, these last few days are hard! Okay I’m back to stealth mode and checking the site a half dozen times an hour!
Am slowly VERY VERY SLOWLY getting better I think. This is one of the worst colds I’ve ever had. The congestion is unbelievable. Am awful glad I stay away from dairy right now. Ugh, the congestion then would really be bad…
Kimberly Potter/Montana
I got my Zenyatta breyer for my birthday from my Mom and I will treasure it forever and ever!
Judy from South Carolina
Hi Sierra…….I am a long time Breyer collector. Probably have about 300+ models. I have found that there are a few of the OF (original finish) Zenyatta’s that came directly from Breyer that vary. So if you have one that has obviously different from others you need to hang on to it. My two are pretty much the same as each other so I paid to have a customized one done on another Breyer mold (the Big Ben model if any of you are familiar with him he was the real life Olympic jumper and the model that Breyer did of him was PERFECT for Zenny not only confirmation wise but also because he almost looked like he was striking a “pose” into a “dance”). LOL of course I had to have his “man parts” removed! I wish I had the creative artistry to do what some of these people can do with acrylic paints, pastels, gloss, etc. but sadly I don’t but I CAN give you or anyone else the names of a few people I know that do WONDERFUL work on Breyer models that will work with you to do a customized Zenyatta. I am waiting until Baby Z is born and having a Mama Z and foal done by one of them that I have worked with in the past.
Anyway, if anyone is interested you can email me at CarolinaJude@aol.com and I will pull out my records and find the name of someone I have worked with before.
I was watching TVG tonight to see what they were showing at midnight and Rich Perloff did a “TVG News Update” at 11:00 (EST) and there was no BABY UPDATE so I guess I will go to bed. Maybe tomorrow????????
Goodnight QUEEN Z! Our dreams will be of you, a safe delivery and a soon to be little one running like the wind by your side…………………
Diana Stuart
@Breyer Collectors: My first Breyer was a white horse with black saddle and bridle, about 10-inches high. I named “her” Dobbin. I’ve had her 60 years. Yes, you read that right! And I have several others from the 1950s and 60s. Have no clue what they are worth. Doesn’t matter. When I croak, they’re goin’ with me! Is there a catalog of all the old models? I’d love to look them up.

Debbie G
What a great moment for Kentucky fans! I’ll echo your congrats to the undefeated Wildcats. Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy,
From a very let-down Duke Fan :-(
Debbie G/Kentucky
Awww, don’t feel let down Sandy. At least you beat UNC earlier in the year and there’s still the ACC tournament for you to get revenge. You’ll most likely go far in the NCAA tournament too.
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
The problem is – they just looked AWFUL! It was unbelievable how many “open shot” were missed. They rely so heavily on 3 pointers, and NOTHING was going in. I’m trying to be optimistic about both the ACC and NCAA tournaments, but this is not the team of last year or the year before :-( They do have only ONE senior (I felt so bad for him) so hopefully everyone else will be getting better has time goes on.
Debbie G/Kentucky
Every team has bad days when the shots just don’t fall. I don’t think you have anything to worry about. Duke always seems to do good in the NCAA tournament.

High hoof, Debbie!

Oh I just had an idea I am going to go through all of the diary pages and look at all of the photos to see the progress that Z has made.
Elizabeth
Never posted here, but I read these posts everyday and very much look forward to them! Love you Z!!
BTW, Any update on Life Is Sweet & her first foal? Have not heard anything about her in awhile!
Sierra (Is trying not to pace)
So far according to Lane’s End Foal list she hasn’t foaled yet.
Sierra (Is trying not to pace)
But it looks as though Sea Gull and P.Q have both foaled. P.Q had a Quality Road colt on the 27th and Sea Gull had a Candy Ride Colt on January 27th.

Welcome, Elizabeth! I hope you don’t find it an intrusion if I ask if you could add your city and state to your post in the future so we can keep you straight from other Elizabeths? I thank you, and JAG will thank you too!

So glad to see your post Elizabeth. Welcome!!!!

Oh, no! Not snow!
@LAWANA–Happy belated birthday,.And thank you again, Trina! There’s not another person on this diary that could do what you do.
@Elizabeth–welcome. We’re all still waiting for reports from Life at Ten too.

How did the Lady Baylor Bears do in their last game, Barbara? The last post of yours I saw said they had one more game to win to finish the season undefeated. That’s quite an accomplishment. I hope they won!

Robin LOVES Zenyatta
Many thanks to Ingrid for calling Lane’s End to make sure Z was ok. I could stop holding my breath. Time has gone by but I still wanted to send my thanks. It was a bit nerve wracking.
Jeanine
Zenyatta, Zenyatta have been thinking about you all day today
wondering if you have started foaling yet. What an exciting time
for everyone.
Hope the Prince or Princess arrives safely. I still think you will
have a filly – Princess ………………..?
LOVE YOU.

Dearest Sierra, I know it is hard for everyone to go back through and catch all the “Replies” one receives, so I’m reposting this because you dd in fact thank me, but it was Especially Horses who deserves the thanks. Here’s my reply to you from the first of March:
Thank you so much for the compliment, and I’m happy to hear that you enjoy the birthday poems, but in the case of that touching poem “Going Home,” I have to tip my hat to Especially Horses–she is the one who posted that tribute to you and your beloved TB Spike back on Jan 4. It truly is a masterpiece. I’m glad you continue to read it and keep it in your heart, and I’m sure that will please Especially Horses too! HugZ.
Sierra
Sorry I get so confused!!! I had read that post but I guess I had just messed up again. Thanks Especially Horses for the poem…. I am just way too excited for this foal that I keep getting mixed up about all of the aunties!
