Hello,

Yesterday, we had a very comfortable afternoon in Lexington and the temperatures were rather pleasant. Then last night at about 3 in the morning, a very heavy rain began. Fortunately, at that time, TASTY and I were nice and safe snuggled comfortably in our stalls in the foaling barn.

My ‘foaling status’ is progressing in a very nice and relaxed manner since the latest report. As of this morning, per Matt, TASTY, is at the ‘one marshmallow size bag’ stage. This is where I was last week. It will be fascinating to monitor the progression we each make during the next several days.

Many of you have asked if we would be together with our foals once they are born. From what we are hearing, that is the plan.

On another note, I would like to send a HIGH HOOF to a dear friend who used to visit ME all of the time when I was at BARN 55. His name is Ed Lauter. Ed would arrive at around noon, bring MY JOHN his favorite ham and cheese sandwiches, and just hang out with us for a bit in the afternoons. Ed is an actor and called MY JOHN this morning to share GREAT NEWS! He played the role of Peppy’s Butler in the movie, THE ARTIST, which recently won THE BEST PICTURE Award at the Academy Awards. (I gather this is like being named HORSE OF THE YEAR…in our industry.) Ed is now off to do another movie, this time with Clint Eastwood, and has 2 other movie offers to consider as well. He is so excited and wanted to share all of this with MY JOHN and thank him for the opportunity to spend so much time with ME and BARN 55. He said it meant a great deal to him!

Ed commented to MY JOHN about how MOMENTUM is so important in life. One thing happens and another builds upon that success helping people to achieve their goals. I appreciate and understand this concept….and am so happy for my pal, ED.

As a matter of fact, I am always so proud to share in the ‘good fortune’ of all of my friends!

    As if we aren’t all nervous enough, now this nasty weather looks to be right over eastern KY. Tornado and/or thunderstorm warning for our area until 9 pm EST. You and Tasty stay safe inside – play some relaxing music! I keep an easy listening station (Highlands, NC) on in my barn all the time and my horses seem to really enjoy it!

    Congrats to your pal Ed – I’m sure his success is due to all that time he spend with you and “your John.” LOL

    Hunker down kiddo, it looks like you’re going to get some crazy weather in Kentucky today. Tornado warnings just north of you. Years ago I remember being in a tornado close to Versailles that passed by Frankfurt. It was wild and exciting. Be safe ya’ll.

    Dear Zenyatta. Happy Wednesday to you my sweet friend!! I’m glad that you and Tasty were warm and comfortable in your stalls when the rain hit. We had snow falling for the last couple of days here in Cedaredge. It is so wonderful to know that both of you are doing so well in your progression toward foaling. My prayer each day is that you, Tasty and your foals remain safe, healthy and happy!! Enjoyed hearing about Mr. Lauter! That is terrific that his picture “the Aritist” did so well in winning the Best Picture Oscar. I love movies and have hundreds in my collection, so I enjoy watching the Oscars every year. It is so special that he has been to Barn 55 often and that he is such good friends with your John and Dottie!! How special that he got to spend so much with you Zenny, our STAR and Clint Eastwood is next, pretty amazing company! Congratulations to him on his great success. I loved Ed’s comment on momentum. There are so many things that have been happening in my life over the last couple of years that have been amazing. My career is in high gear and my bank is a great place to work. On a personal note, it has been fantastic traveling with my mom and I have been so blessed to be a part of this diary site and in making so many wonderful Z-friends.     I shared yesterday that I was going to appear on the local news because of my branch staffs great work in protecting one of our senior citizen customers from a fraud attempt. Thank you all for the sweet comments you posted, they made me feel very special!!! Here is the link!!

      How nice to “meet you” :-) Kudos again for your team doing such a good job. I guess we have to hope that the more these scams are publicized, the more the public will be aware of them, but it sure is awful that “the elderly” are the targets.

      Thanks for doing such a great job of defending your customers, Dawn. Besides all that, you were just so cute in that interview. As a senior myself, I appreciate all efforts to help prevent scams that take advantage of any one regardless of their age.

      WAY to GO, Dawn!! I spent weeks last spring clearing up an identity theft situation when someone used a phony driver’s license with my info and picture on it to spend $1800.00 at a Home Depot. scams are everywhere!

    It’s LEAP DAY! I heard on the news this morning that people who have a birthday today are called ‘leaplings’. So funny.

Yesterday I woke up to 18 inches of snow at my house which is unusual and I thought about the weather in your neck of the woods. Stay safe big girl and warm.     Dear Zenny, my hooves are crossed that you, Tasty and all the horses, people too, are safe. I think that the storm is heading this way, the weather forecast talked about thunder later today.
    On this unusual day I don’t think there are any Dumplings with a birthday but, just in case, a special Happy Birthday wish.

    Just saw the devastation the tornadoes left behind in Missouri and Illinois, my prayers are with all of you. Davy Jones, of The Monkees, passed away today in Florida at the age of 66,

    Keeping prayers going that You, Zenyatta will be safe and sound, and the storms will disappear.

    I can’t wait! Counting down the days. I saw someone posted that you will NOT be having a full sibling this year that Vertigneaux was found to be barren. :( I was so looking forward to that foal too. However, she was rebred to Street Cry last week so hooves crossed for a full sibling this time next year.

        If you go to Zenny’s facebook page and right up under the pictures at the top click on Everyone(Most Recent) and someone posted the info. Not sure how they found out but.. I hadn’t heard anything either until that post. I was hoping it wasn’t true.
        This is what was posted: “Sad news to report but good news hopefully to follow. I finally got news on the status of the Vertigineaux/Street Cry cross-Zenyatta’s full sibling. They did “meet” last year but unfortunately Vertigineaux came up barren so they were bred again last week. Hoofs crossed, that fate will intervene and give fans a new champion and full sibling to Zenyatta!!!”

They did “meet” last year but unfortunately Vertigineaux came up barren so they were bred again last week. Hoofs crossed, that fate will intervene and give fans a new champion and full sibling to Zenyatta!!!

      Since I am not a “Friend”, I can’t access her profile.
      But, know that she does post frequently about Zenyatta.

        Thanks for the info on Vertigineux. I’m always concerned when a mare gets up in age. She’s sixteen now. Here’s an article dated 8/18/11 that states “she was bred to Street Cry earlier this year”. Hopefully, she will be OK and will carry a foal from this latest mating last week to Street Cry to term.
        Did this poster on Facebook indicate when V lost the foal. Wondering why they didn’t breed her again until last week. Hugs, JB

        • There is a site called Thoroughbred Champions
          Although I am aware of it, I have not joined.

          There are many different sections on it.
          Basically, it is racing fans.
          However, in one section, they actually track the bookings of well known mares.

          Here is one of the threads on it

          Vertigineux –> Street Cry
          So a Coolmore mare goes to Darley stallion… what will be next, lions whelping in the streets and lying down with lambs? The end is near! LOL

          I guess the prospect of having Zenyatta’s full sibling was just too much and broke down barrier. :-) Maybe next Zenyatta can bring peace to the Middle East.
          Does Vertigineux have one or two Henrythenavigator fillies now?

          P.S. That’s quite a list for Bernardini, including Rags’ mama. And I see Life is Sweet and Z are both having Bernardini foals next year. Good thing they aren’t going to live together — once they compare notes and find out they have the same baby daddy, fur might fly. J/K, but what a soap opera — and that’s before Zenyatta discovers the paternity of her half sister Eblouissante… oh my…*cue dramatic music*

          Hip 36, a Henrythenavigator half-sister to 2010 Horse of the Year Zenyatta (Street Cry {Ire}), figured to attract plenty of interest early during the first session of the Keeneland November Sale. The weanling lived up to the billing, selling for $1.5 million to Adena Springs. In addition to the two-time Breeders’ Cup heroine, the daughter of Vertigineux (Kris S.) also boasts MGISW Balance (Thunder Gulch) as her sibling.

        Here’s the article on Vertigineux from April 2011. There is a photo of V and her Henry The Navigator filly born on 4/2/11. She had a filly by HTN in 2010 as well. She apparently was bred to Street Cry sometime in April or May 2011, I’m guessing. That’s why it seems strange that they waited until last week to do another mating. Unless she had some other complications we’re not privy to. Hugs, JB

    Happy Sadie Hawkins Day to Zen and all her friends and fans! Most of you are probably too young to know who Sadie Hawkins was…….I think about now Google has been hit with hundereds of searches for Sadie Hawkins, pride of Dogpatch!!
    Must get on weather channel and see what is happening down there! Here in California it is cold and wet and windy. Yuck.

    I was so worried this morning when I heard about the weather back where you are. Thank you for letting us know you are all fine.
    Was fun to know their are other MY FRIEND FLICKA readers. It was a favorite of mine as a little girl. My mother gave me her book set, that she read as a little girl. Something I will always remember. Unfortunently it loss lost in a move.

      I’ve never read the Flicka books, but my stepfather had a horse named Flicka that he used to ride in horse shows back in the 50’s. I got him the Flicka Breyer horse for his birthday one year and you would thought that I’d given him a million dollars! He loved that horse.

      Your welcome, Cindy. I grew up when the My Friend Flicka series was on TV, I loved it. I also have first additions of each of the books in the series (My Friend Flicka, Thunderhead: Son of Flicka and The Green Grass of Wyoming, all by Mary O’Hara from the 1940’s) and the original movies with Roddy McDowall and Robert Arthur. I love them all, they are wonderful stories!

    So happy to hear you and Tasty are fine. The news this morning was all about the tornadoes close to your area. I am glad you are all safe.

    Congratulations to your friend ED to be part of the movie, The Artist. I love the dog, Uggie, who plays a major role in the movie. Do you know he was lucky to be adopted by his trainer. I read he had two previous owners. He was able to train Uggie and look at Uggie now with his awards. Uggie was a guest at the Ellen Degeneres show last week. He was too cute… He is nine years old. What a wonderful story.

    Ah, Zenny it is so nice to hear from you today :) The BIG DAY is getting closer! I send my best wishes to you and you’re foal!

    I must say, that storm last night was pretty nasty! We were hit fairly hard up here in Indiana, but thankfully all is well today.

    It is wonderful to hear that TASTY is progressing nicely! Her foal should be beautiful for sure!!

    My family and I are flying to Arizona tomorrow to visit with my mom’s side of the family, please pray that everything goes well! It should be fun!
