Good Morning, Everyone!
It was such a fabulous, yet rather quick weekend! I am constantly amazed at how fast the time is flying by now.
It seems like BABY NEWS is definitely in the air here at the farm. I just received this message and wanted to share it with you. It’s from my dear friend, Pirate Queen. As you may remember, when I first arrived at Lane’s End she was one of my original paddock mates. Then Mike and Charles moved things around a bit….and TASTY and I became such dear friends in our own paddock.
Often, so many of you ask about some of my friends here at the farm.
Well, I am very pleased to announce that PIRATE QUEEN had a grey colt…this morning at 3:50 a.m… by QUALITY ROAD. This is her first foal…and the first crop of Quality Road foals…so this adds to the excitement!
I’ve heard that from all reports everything is going well for both Mom and Baby!
I’m due to be rechecked later today to see how i’m doing and how ‘my bag’ is developing. I can tell things are progressing ‘a bit’ in a very nice, positive, and relaxed manner. Since this is the first time for ME, I can’t wait to hear what my veterinarian and the professionals here at the farm have to tell me about my Mom-to-Be news!
I’ll share it all with you in the morning.
On the racing front, the stakes activity over the weekend was fabulous. UNION RAGS put in a very impressive effort in the Fasig-Tipton Fountain of Youth (G2). It is so great to see his successful 2 year old form carry into his 3 year old year. The Fairgrounds finish in the Risen Star (G2) was a close one…with both El Padrino and Mark Valeski separated by a close photo. The Factor ran one fast race at Santa Anita in the San Carlos (G2)…and a HIGH HOOF to Summer Applause on her victory in the Rachel Alexandra (G3).
Overall, it was a wonderful weekend of racing!
Have a lovely Monday!
With Love,
Hugs to All~(Congratulations, PQ on your new foal!)

A grey colt–how exciting!! P.Q.must be so happy to have her weeone by her side!! I wonder if her “parents” will allow photos to be shared. I surely hope so!! I’ve never seen a newborn grey and would love to!!
Thanks for sharing this wonderful news and congratulations to all of Pirate Queen’s connections!!
Have a relaxing day and say HI to Tasty!! LOVE YOU!!!!!
LauraJ (Cincinnati OH)
They aren’t born gray. They are mostly their base color (bay, chestnut, or whatever) with grayish “goggles” around their eyes and maybe some lightening elsewhere on the face. Once they shed their foal coats, the gray is evident.
Heidi Kruckenberg (Vallejo, Ca)
A lot of grey foals are born chestnut. The tail tail sign that they’re grey is if you see hints around the eyes and nose. I had a colt born chestnut but, he had lil grey hairs all over and as he shed his baby coat, it was evident that he would be grey.

Who is coming out to Santa Anita to see it?
Would love to be there, but can’t.
Hope to see pics of Pirate Queen foal soon.

I’m sure most of us Local Chapter of Z Dumplings will be there for # 5,000! If you come, we’d love to meet you!

Keta,
My fantasy is that Mike’s 5,000th win would come on Eby in her debut race, but I don’t think that will be happening. He’s knocking those wins down pretty fast and I think he’ll have it nailed before she’s ready. But, could you imagine all the noise and excitement if it were to be? ALL the horses would need double ear plugs.

4:52 pm Update by Three Chimneys Farm
UPDATE ON THISKYHASNOLIMIT: Bob Zollars told Three Chimneys this afternoon that THISKYHASNOLIMIT came out of surgery yesterday at LSU in good order. He is bearing weight on all four legs, moving around well & has a healthy appetite. As long as he continues to be a good patient, his prognosis is good. THISKYHASNOLIMIT has been a stakes/graded stakes winner each of the past four years, including a victory in this year’s Louisiana Handicap. THISKYHASNOLIMIT was pulled up in the Mineshaft H. (G3) on Saturday after suffering a fracture to his right front cannon bone. All of us at Three Chimneys are wishing him a safe recovery and will keep you abreast of any updates we hear about

Thank you Keta, for the updates on Thiskyhasnolimit. I come to Z’s diary for the news since we have the best updates here. What a relief that he is doing well, at least for now.

Dear Zenny,
What great news about your friend Pirate Queen! So glad to hear that everything went well for Mom and baby. (Now I will have to go back to the older pictures and figure out which one she was unless one of your helpful human friends can give me a quick refresher). Good to know that you are getting “checked out” today. I had to wait to hear your update before I could consider going out and leaving the computer for a while. Have a good day dear Zenny, and thanks for the beautiful friendship card – it was a thrill to find it in the mail!
Love from your Ohio friend, Sandy
To everyone who has been asking about the cards – I am SURE that they are related to a plushie purchase (NO other possible reason why I would have received one). It’s like a fairly large greeting card with some pictures of Zenny, Tasty, and Ann Moss (at least I think it’s Ann). They are being sent from Kentucky (and probably not all in the same batch – just like the plushies weren’t all sent at once) so if you bought one, I’m sure you will get the card eventually.

Sandy, PQ is the dark grey. Check out this link (Judy B. posted recently), it shows our four gals, with Zenny’s description: “From left to right, they are Sea Gull, P.Q., Alyss and ME!” (https://staging.zenyatta.com/diary/diary-post-89)

Thanks so much Vicki! I remembered the picture, but it would have taken all day to find it.

That is great news about Pirate Queen, congrats!! And I was so happy to see Union Rags win, that was a great race. BTW – Animal Planet has a show called “Too Cute.” I think when you and Tasty have your foals they should have a show just dedicated to the two of you and your babies, it would be . . . . . TOO CUTE!!

GRANNY
Granny quit gambling on Christmas Day,
104 winters she got to play.
“Life is a game”, she used to say,
Have fun while you can,
Work hard for your pay.
Born on a ‘Pink Star’ guided so straight,
‘Ruth’ was her name, after the ‘SAINT’,
Dropped three foals, had only one mate,
“GOD” granted her, a life that was GREAT!
She guided me, my mother had run,
Played “peekaboo”, I was her son.
Nursed me back when I had spun,
The food was not bland,
“You want the last bun?”
She firmly took me under her wing,
Protected me at the end of a string.
Granny had money and plenty of bling,
Game called ‘Cloak’, it’s a police thing.
The smartest Woman I ever knew,
She worked at the Senate, a collage too,
Her knowledge was vast, her color was blue.
One hell of a Nan,
Entrusted too few.

You are so wonderful Zenyatta, sharing the news about Pirate Queen. I thought I missed the news. It was a fantastic weekend of racing. Can’t wait to hear your health report. I’m sure all is well. You have been taking good care of yourself and your baby. Anxiously waiting, one of your forever fans.

♥♥ Congratulations to Pirate and Quality – a gray colt – too cute!! Their colt could be named “Pirate Road” or “Road to PQ”. If the foal had been a girl, her name could have been “Queen of the Road”
Congrats to Apprentice Eswan Flores (So. California jockey) on his first Stakes win yesterday! He is a doll! I met him in the jockey autograph signing booth on Saturday. I said to him: “You need to stop falling off your horses!” He laughed. He was unseated in a race on Friday (something like the 3rd or 4th time since the Meet). The jock next to him said: “You fell off again!?” Eswan laughed and said yes. NOTE: As we all know, there is no humor in being unseated if the horse falls and/or is injured, or the jockey is hurt in the fall! He’s been very lucky!!!
Mikey got a win Saturday – some of us Z Dumplings were there cheering him into the Winner’s Circle. Then yesterday he got another win, so that’s 7 from 5,000 wins! We are getting close, Zenny!!
♥♥♥ ♥♥♥ ♥♥♥
March 9th……………… not far off! :-D
Kisses and hugs and tummy rubs, My Queen! XOXOXOXO
Love Always,

Judy,
Great description of Eswan. He is only 18 & a high school senior.
Has won about 30 races already. This was (as you said) his first stakes win.
So, he is on his way!!
Read about jockey at Aqueduct who also was having a problem
staying on. Think it happened 4 times in a couple of days.
Would love to be with you on Mike’s 5000th.
Too many variables to know exactly when this will happen.
If there is a change in plans, will let you know.
Would love to meet you & Z Dumplings.
Have multiple Z hats & t-shirt–the Z equivalent of Red Hat :)
JAG / Nail Biting-Insomnia-Pacing Auntie Judy / So. CA
My friend Jane suggested they velcro Eswan to the saddle LOL
Well, when Mike gets real close to that number – and we see how many races in has on the card – then we can go from there :-) Hooves crossed it will be at Santa Anita!

Amanda, thank you for the information. Rock Hard Ten is gorgeous. When you stand next to him and lay a hand on his side, his size and strength are amazing. He is very kind as well.

I just posted a photo of “Rocky” on my blog http://lookofeagles.wordpress.com
No wonder he was so tall … he is sired by Kris S., who is Zenny’s broodmare sire. There is a family resemblance …
