Happy Friday Dear Friends,
I have always been one to enjoy an early afternoon nap! I was on a very definite schedule when I was in training at BARN 55. MY JOHN used to have the entire barn area be completely peaceful after our morning training hours and 10:30 a.m. breakfast. This way all of the horses could totally rest, relax, and nap. He would have the fans turned on so we would have lots of fresh air circulating and the entire environment was completely tranquil. This is a habit I have continued to enjoy since I’ve been at Lane’s End. I must say, I love my naps!
When at Barn 55, this was the time MY JOHN would walk around and just observe us while we were resting! It was sweet to see him always ‘peeking in on ME’ as he walked around the shed row and made sure everyone was A-OK! Here at the farm, when I’m napping in the paddock, TASTY watches over ME to be sure I’m safe and happy. I do the same thing for her when she is resting. We have truly developed quite a bond. It is all so very special!
FRIENDSHIP is such a wonderful thing….and a TRUE FRIEND is something to be cherished!
Amid all of our other activities over the weekend, TASTY and I want to keep up on the great racing. The Fairgrounds, Gulfstream, Oaklawn, Santa Anita and Aqueduct have some very contentious fields running over the next few days. Several of the races will help to determine more about the 3 year old picture. Breeders’ Cup Sprint Champion, AMAZOMBIE, is running at Santa Anita and this should be one “fast” race. Good Luck to him and MY MIKIE who will be on board.
Don’t forget, MY MIKIE is getting close to win #5000! We have to keep current on his countdown as well! There is so much each day for us to do! This is really very positive as it keeps our minds busy as we progress through the next few weeks!
Enjoy the weekend of racing…relax, have fun, and here’s wishing you lots of WINNERS!
With Love,
Hugs to all~(Isn’t TASTY “TOO CUTE” in this photo!)

You are so right – “friendships are so special” and those special ones are few! You and Tasty have developed quite a bond and love that you watch out for each other!!
Talking about “your John”, he is one special person and his accomplishments and caring shine through on you all.
Enjoy your weekend with Tasty! That video yesterday was the best I have seen – love seeing these foals!

Happy Friday Z and Tasty…….Yes I agree having a best friend is the best and I am glad you have each other to love. I will be at Santa Anita this weekend watching your Mikie get closer to his 5000th win. Enjoy your naps in the sun sweet girl. See you tomorrow I love you

Yes, we all do! It’s been such an amazing journey as Zen enters perhaps the most important role of her life….mother!

I was awakened from a light sleep this morning when out of nowhere came: “Zenberina” in my head! Gosh, Zenny, such is how your spirit touches me. I had to laugh and wonder if I was dreaming and just can’t remember or what?????
Love to you sweet momma and to Tasty too.

Zenny, a HIGH HOOF to your wonderful BFF, TT! You two have developed such a great relationship…it’s very sweet.
May both of you have a relaxing weekend as you await the birth of your foals.
Zenny, I still laugh at the video link you provided yesterday. I can imagine your little one doing dance steps when he/she first stands!
Debbie
hi Z! Happy Friday to YOU and Tasty! Yes, Tasty is TOO CUTE watching over gorgeous YOU while YOU nap;) I will be watching all of the racing over the weekend (GO MIKIE & AMAZOMBIE)! YOU and Tasty have a sunny weekend napping in YOUR paddock! Love YOU beautiful mama xoxoxo

LOVE the new page and I am not sure who reads these posts but if I could recommend that Zenyattas name on the top of the page be changed to PINK and a nice girlie font would look so much better! Just a suggestion. Glad to see Zen and Tasty relaxing and enjoying life. Love you more than you will ever know!
Lisag in Texas
@Horse Experts, just wondering! Ms Zenyatta and Tasty are clearly BFF and more, after they have both given birth, will they, the moms and they, the kids be in the same paddock, or will they be separated? I hope they remain together, I am not sure what happens afterward. Please let me know. Thanks, Lisag
Katie Clawson
Lisag- I have heard that for the first month or so Zenny and her foal will be seperated from Tasty and her foal. Eventually they will be put back in the same padock together :)
signofthetimes
Yes, probably correct; Can never be too careful putting horses together;
they must be watched;
Even though TASTY and ZENNY are BBF now when
two foals enter the seen and EQUINE/MOTHER instincts kicks in you
really never know what is going to happen; even to the horses with the
gentelist personalities.
Marty R / Colorado
Lisag, I wonder the same things. I hope you don’t mind if I add a couple other questions here for the Horse Experts. Will they go back to the foaling barn at night after they start going outside? Will they ever go back to their original barn and paddock? Thanks for the answers.
LauraJ (Cincinnati OH)
They’re going outside now. They spend most of the day outside and come in in the evening. Yes, they will go back to their old barn, or to another one like it. The space in the foaling barn will be needed for other mares.
Marty R / Colorado
Laura J.,
Thank you. I didn’t make myself clear. I was wondering where they would go after they start going outside with their foals, but you answered anyway. Thanks again.
signofthetimes
Actually TT and Zenny were spending some nights
Outside before being put on Foal Watch. Keeping them
Outside for long periods gives them a lot of exercise and
Being out at night is something horses do a lot,
signofthetimes
Also Marty, the paddock Zenny was originally was
Built especially for her with round corners so she would not
Get injured and the location of her original paddock was
Chosen so she could be watched and of course socialized
And be brought in quickly if a storm was approaching. The Mosses
May have paid for it to be build especially for her. May be
She and Tasty will go back there ????
Terri Z
Thanks for the info. I thought all the paddocks were built this way.
I am so glad Lane’s End is handling the queen with kid gloves. The owner, William Farrish, was a former ambassador to Great Britain, so he surely knows what protocol is involved in dealing with a queen. And after the untimely death of Harve de Graces sire, Saint Liam, Lane’s End has been especially cautious.
signofthetimes
@ Terry Z
Did you see the post from a couple of days ago on St. Liam’s injury,
it was truely an accident. He was handled by a 25 year veteran
stallion handler from Lanes End. It is so very sad to see these
wonderful creatures have life ending accidents;
I think everything planned out for her ‘let down’, first release was orchestrated by the Mosses. They had 24 hour watch on her at
HWP with at Web cam in their home. Never can be too care full with equines
especially TB as they are known for their “silliness”.
Lisag in Texas
Ms Zenyatta, Too cute, Tasty watching over you while you nap. I saw another picture that she did that. I see why you like your naps, I like to take a nap on Sunday’s, do not always get to…but I try. Thank you for all the special pictures and posts. Will check in on your later..have a wonderful day. I love you, Lisag

What an exciting weekend in racing it will be, Zenny!! As you know, there are some VERY big Triple Crown prep races coming up..such as the Fountain of Youth(featuring Algorithms!) I am so happy for BERNIE and his foals. They are completely lighting up the track!
I am hoping and praying that you and you’re foal will be happy and healthy when the big day comes!

Thanks for this link, it was great. As I read it, I can imagine this cat doing what the article said…do not want to give it away until everybody gets a chance to read it.
Barbara Wood (Texas)
GREAT story, JAG. Thanks!
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
What a great story Judy! You don’t hear about cats doing such caring things as often as you hear about dogs (dogs have humans, cats have servants, etc :-). I miss my kitties, but still not up to chasing after one.
Sandy
Heidi Kruckenberg (Vallejo, Ca)
Thanks for the link, JAG! Too Cute!

Great story, Judy. Dogs get most of the attention for saving lives, so it’s good to hear a story like this about a cat.
Terry Crow
Dogs have to be more careful in what they do. They only have one life, while a cat has nine.
Debbie G/Kentucky
Good point Terry!

Jag, wonderful story this is why I rescued my two cockers. Most rescued animals are so grateful to be saved from a fate worse than death (in my dogs case) they pay you back in many, many ways. God Bless all who rescue animals. Hugs Sue

How very special for a cat in and out of a

For his very special quality of caring for humans.

Thanks, JAG. I had a cat, years ago, who was especially sensitive to emotional distress, so I loved the story.
Barbara Wood (Texas)
Good afternoon, Zenny and Tasty! All this talk of naps is making me sleepy. I’m hearing hubby snoring from across the hall–lol!
Anyway, it occurs to me that there are enough pictures by now of the two of you that if Tasty’s owners agreed, someone could do an adorable book about the two of you and donate the proceeds to a horse-related chairty. I hope someone does that. I would buy it in a heartbeat.
Safe trips to all who are racing this weekend, both equine and human!

Dear Barb W.:
What a great idea. Hugs, JB

It would make a great children’s picture book! But of course, we grown-ups could buy copies, too :)
Lisag in Texas
As a grown up, I am certain I would buy a copy.
Karen Gogue /Nanny-Granny in a marshmallow watch coma ♥
Ah dang! I am a 60 year old kid at heart, so would it OKAY to buy this children’s book for myself?? Would anyone notice? Of course, I could always say it was for my grand children! LOL! Heck, WE ALL ARE KIDS AT HEART, betcha we’d grab them before the kids could get their hands on one!
sue and tony
We LOVE this idea. What a great story of two equine BFF going through their first pregnancy together. It is sure to be a best seller!
Brenda S..Ontario, Canada
Dear Barb, Fantastic idea and I don’t think Tasty’s owners would have a problem. I believe she’s a Woodford Racing (Lane’s End) mare.

Zenyatta,
What a comforting photo of you resting and soaking up the sun, with your best friend Tasty watching over you. Like all of the Zsters, pacing and nerving here in Houston.. xoxo….

You and Tasty look as relaxed as two horses could be. Time is drawing near and we are all anxiously waiting the BIG NEWS. Good luck to all runners this weekend, especially Mike and Amazombie!
Rosemary McCauley - So. Cal.
Zenyatta – I forgot to share an amusing story with you. I was lucky enough get personalized plates on my truck that spells out your name almost exactly, although the exact spelling was taken (surprise!!). My plates don’t have an “e” and has an extra “a”. It is very obvious what the plates say. A week or so ago, I didn’t have time to take it in for regular maintenance, so I asked my son if he would pick it up from my workplace and do it for me. He has a friend who owns a garage and he took it there. When he drove it in, his friend saw the plates and said “Is your mom a fan of the Police?” His friend doesn’t follow horse racing (and must live under a rock because he didn’t recognize it as YOUR name) so my son explained to him the meaning of the plate.
JAG aka Insomnia-Pacing Auntie Judy / So. CA
That is neat!!! High Hoof!!

I saw a cool plate in California – CBISKIT.
I think I’d love a plate that spelled out, “Yatta, yatta, yatta!!” (either that or “stop tailgating, I’m a little old lady and not going to go any faster!!)

Cool story, Rosemary!
Terry Crow
That’s a great story. I am not up on the current scene, musical or otherwise. You can imagine what I thought when I first heard the name Madonna.
Vicki B. near Hollywood Park
Terry, that made me go take a look, by Googling “Weird Band Names”, and I found perhaps the least-offensive list, including such potentially-Redneck gems as “Poultry in Motion”, “Results of Inbreeding”, “Once I Killed a Gopher With a Stick”, “Texas is the Reason”, and “Are These My Pants?”. (http://thetenbest.net/bandnames/) When I first heard of “Madonna”, I think I wondered if it had anything to do with the historic Madonna Inn, a hotel up the coast.
Terry Crow
These names are great. Thanks for the list. The Madonna Inn is a great place.
Sally B. (cherish Z- Wi.)
Nice! ! My husband was to set up a password at a brokerage co. He asked me, needless to say “Zenyatta” was already taken. WOW!
