HAPPY 90TH BIRTHDAY, MRS. CHENERY!
Good Morning,
What a lovely way to start the day…wishing Mrs. Penny Chenery ALL THE VERY BEST on her 90th BIRTHDAY! From my entire TEAM and all of BARN 55, we would like to send her the warmest wishes and a big HIGH HOOF on her special day!
I was very blessed to meet Mrs. Chenery when she came to Hollywood Park in October, 2010. She was there to present the Trophy for the Ladies’ Secret–G1. For this meet, Oak Tree was held at Hollywood Park. In this race, I was competing to remain undefeated and for my 19th victory in a row. It was quite a day! Mrs. Chenery wanted to come and see ME in the paddock and be there for the event. She commented to the press that “SHE WANTED TO SEE ME DANCE”! She later told them, “I WAS IN HER PRESENCE AND SHE WAS IN COMPLETE COMMAND”. (Blush, Blush)
When I WON…the fans went WILD! This victory now highlighted my career record at 19-0! I remember these moments…all of them…so vividly. During the Winners’ Circle ceremonies, Mrs. Chenery was absolutely lovely. She posed for countless photos and joined in many interviews with THE MOSS’ and MY JOHN. Her comments about ME, my racing career, and my impact on the sport were glowing!
Can you imagine how PROUD I felt! These gracious remarks about ME coming from the woman who bred, raised, and raced the CHAMPION, SECRETARIAT! What a complete honor!
During the next several months, Mrs. Chenery created the Vox Populi Award to honor the HORSE in our industry who did so much during the year to captivate the fans! She personally selected ME to be the first honoree. This season, a committee of professionals in our industry along with the fans voting determined the winner. Rapid Redux was honored and presented with this year’s AWARD!
For all of your years of total devotion and dedication to our SPORT, the Thoroughbred Industry, and the entire breed of THROUGHBRED HORSES, Mrs. Chenry, we truly want to THANK YOU, HONOR YOU, and WISH YOU GREAT JOY on your special DAY! From the bottom of our hearts and souls…WE ADORE YOU!
HAPPY, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
With Love,
Hugs to All~(Happy Weekend Everyone! Enjoy RACING!)

Pati,
It’s Hollywood Park they’re talking about repurpossing. I don’t live there, but don’t care for that idea, either.
Pati
It isn’t Santa Anita? Hmm, it was on “America’s Top 11 most endangered sites” or something like that. I hope they don’t change either for any reason other than repairs or to expand.

Dear Z Fans:
Exciting start of Stakes races Run for the Roses Preps. Tomorrow at Gulfstream is the Holy Bull Stakes. Hansen, the BC Juvenile winner is entered. Also, along with five others, are two sons of Bernardini, Algorithms and Consortium. Very impressive breeding on Consortium. He has AP Indy genes through Bernie; and Secretariat and Seattle Slew genes through AP Indy. His Dam is a daughter of Machiavellian, who is Zenyatta’s Grand Sire and Street Cry’s Dad. Wow, this boy is Royalty. Wishing him all the best in his quest for the Roses. Love and Hugs, JB

Wow, Consorium has an impressive pedigree.
One of Street Cry’s sons, a Darely, Side Road, won
Maiden Special weight, out of a pulpit mare. Awesome
long stride, big strapping colt. Kirren McLaughlin trainer.

And of course I meant “thoroughbred racing”–should have just said “horse racing”! lol

Happy Birthday Mrs. Penny Chenery! Thanks for the post Queen Z. I remember when you won the 19th time. I was there! Of course I will never forget that very special day. The cheer from the crowd was so thrilling when you crossed the finish line. Also, seeing Mrs. Chenery in person was wonderful. I love you. If weather permits have fun outside with Tasty.

Dear Zenny,
Hope you are having a great Saturday, watching the races with TT and your LE pals,
as well as mowing, grazing for two and doing your exercise. Great races today,
some the talented two year olds become three and start the trek to the KY oaks
and Derby. Already one injured, too bad.
I love the quote of Penny’s about you in the paddock for your 19th win, an air of such confidence, presence, dancing and win. So very wonderful of her to come and see
you and give you the first Vox Poluli award. Two horses, Secretariat and You, of the people.
The Inside Information (HRTV) this week on Penny Chenery was TOO CUTE;
She said that Secretariate got squeezed out of the gate in his maiden race and did not like that; so he started to break slower after that. Then she said years later she found
out he had such a “large hind end” that he had a hard time getting it out of the gate
quickly. Breaking slow, never hindered him, especially when he was invincible in his Belmont/Triple Crown win; for which he will be forever remembered.
You also break slowly, probably not for the same reason, as you did that in your maiden race. Trevor Denman said that you needed more racing experience, but changed his tune when you won the race. “Large hind ends” serve a lot of wonderful
purposes in racing. And contributed to your great turn of foot in the last part of the
race to finish a winner. You will be forever remembered for your BCC 2009 win and the greatest race of your life the BCC 2010 loss to the very talented BLAME. You were so very powerful, in commmand, and just had a bad trip, did not like the track and had so much dirt in your face. But only a true CHAMPION could have done what
you did and made up 20 lengths to lose by only a neck.
You are such a very awesome and special horse and so very well deserving of your place in history with the GREAT SECRETARIAT and the lovely Penny Chenery.
Cheer to your Barn 55 Team and your Lanes End Friends who are going to help
you in your next career with the goal of Broodmare of the Year, with on of your
offsprings.
GOOD LUCK on foaling this baby and in everything you do.

For those of you concerned about the van ride; first foal at LE went on van ride day of foaling; foal with go anywhere with mother without a care or worry; unless mother is, which Rachel is not.

Barbara Grimaldi/Skip & Juliet/NJ
Rachel’s people are quite upset with all the crepe hangers. I can understand all the care and concern, but I think only positive things should be logged onto her FB page now–without a mention of “get well” or similar words. People seem to forget that she is one of the most well-known mares in the world and that her reputation as a mom can be damaged if the negativity gets out of control. Rachel didn’t receive all the superb care Zenny did, from her birth. She deserves all the peace and quiet and love and good wishes that you can send, now and always.
Abigail from Montreal
Totally agree with you, Barbara!
PatB from NM
i certainly hope her care is now top notch, to make up for the brutality of her late 3-year-old and early 4-year-old campaign.

Happy Birthday to Mrs. Chenery! It was so great seeing her and her daughter at Santa Anita last year for your prestigious Vox Populi Award! What a privilege to see them along with Team Z!
Prayers and hooves crossed for Rachel Alexandra and her baby boy and that they’re home soon in perfect condition…hoping it’s only a routine matter. Take care, lovely lady!

I hope the city of Los Angeles doesn’t sell out Hollywood Park; especially for a mall. It is a beautiful racetrack and everytime I go there it is like an oasis in the middle of all the city’s rat race. Because of Zenyatta and Barn 55 I discovered the backside life of the track and how awesome that was.
Terry Crow
The City has no domain over the Hollywood Park property. The land is owned by The Bay Meadows Land Company, which had no compunction in tearing down the Bay Meadows racetrack when it became financially feasible to do so.

Now that I have properly recovered from all of the partying commemorating Thomas J. Crapper, I will break the reverie of the site. @Debbie G-Thanks for the email. @Kari Bussell-There was a horse running yesterday at SA named Bonnie Parker and it ran like a dog. Yours? Ms. Chenery is, indeed a racing icon and all of the congratulations sent on her way for her birthday are richly deserved. BTW, isn’t that Chris McCarron in the photo of Ms. Chenery at the top of the diary entry? @Rosemary McCauley, Denise in AZ and Diana S, charter members of Arizona/New Mexico chapter-You might be a redneck if your only shoes are your house slippers, @Judy Berube, president of New England chapter-You might be a redneck if your yard has been proposed as a new landfill site. @Marshall, president of North Carolina chapter-You might be a redneck if your purse is a toolbox. @Debbie G, president of Kentucky chapter-You might be a redneck if you use duct tape to keep your “tuck” in place. @Marty R, president of Colorado chapter-You might be a redneck if you use coffee filters when you run out of toilet paper. @Darlene Daniels, president of Indiana chapter-You might be a redneck if you grow your sideburns three inches lower because it looks good on your brother. @signofthetimes, president of Texas chapter-You might be a redneck if you steal a neighborhood watch sign to put in your yard. @Stephanie in San Diego and Vicki B, members of California chapter-You might be a redneck if you bought your dog a birthday present and not your husband. @Sue Fredrick and Sally B, charter members of Wisconsin chapter, presidency to be determined-You might be a redneck if you wax your legs with Turtle Wax. @Brenda S, president and Abigail from Montreal, member of Canadian chapter-You might b e a Canadian redneck if you think farm is spelled E-I-E-I-O. @Susan in TN and Kari Bussell-You might be a redneck if you think Sherlock Holmes is a housing project in Mississippi. You might be a redneck if you go to a church where the pastor is predicting the end of the world in 1998. You might be a redneck if you think turbine is something an Arab wears on his head. Barbara Wood (Texas)
Too funny! Do you remember that great scene with Andy Griffith in “No Time for Sergeants” when he made all the tioilet seats pop up at once?
Terry Crow
Andy was pretty much an original redneck. Amazing that his type of humor was so popular with Hollywood types.

Thanks for the laughs Terrt. BTW I have always liked the stars and bars but had to suggest that my friend’s son not fly it on his truck when driving to a racially mixed school.

Sorry TerrY
Terry Crow
Not to sound like a teacher, but what most people see as the Confederate flag is actually the battle flag for the Army of Northern Virginia. You are correct to refer to it as the Stars and Bars.

Terry,
TOO Funny! Purse is a toolbox, huh. Mine has a Swiss Army knife in it — does that count? Oh, I do buy Christmas presents for my dogs, and I don’t have a husband. Maybe there is a connection there, do you think?
Take care! Glad you have recovered from the Crapper Day festivities!

LET’S HAVE A PARTY! THIS MAY BE ONE OF THE LAST WEEKENDS BEFORE THE BIG EVENT! AND APPLE PEARS MAY NOT BE AS READILY AVAILABLE IN A MONTH OR SO!
Tomorrow morning (Sunday) wherever you are–think about having an apple pear in honor of Zenyatta and her impending motherhood. Let’s do it style! Everyone is welcome! We can all use some good fun and I can’t think of a better hostess!!!!!
So Z in honor of you even if no one else comes to the party I’ll be celebrating your impending big day! You are welcome to have an apple pear for breakfast, brunch, lunch or for dessert after dinner. You decide! It can be a 24 hour thing starting from midnight tonight (Sat) to midnight tomorrow (Sun).
Shari Voltz from Ohio
@ Margaret I eat an apple almost everyday. I am going to get my class involved. Eat an apple for Zenyatta and the baby. Too cute : )

There was a bruncheon last year that Z hosted. It was such fun! I had never had an apple pear. Which I guess is a cross between a pear and an apple. Light and fruity. Sweet tasting. I saw them at Costco and immediately thought of Z!
So don’t forget!
COMEPARTY WITH Z TOMORROW! ALL YOU NEED IS ONE APPLE PEAR AND A HUNGRY APPEPTITE! ENJOY THE PARTY! COME ONE COME ALL!

Oh my gosh – I cannot imagine the honor you must have felt meeting Mrs. Chenery and then dancing for her. And, of course, I am sure she also felt so honored to have met you, spent time with you and to have seen you race to glory; just as she did her own boy so many years ago. What a beautiful meeting. Happy Birthday Mrs. Chenery and Happy Day to you Zenyatta and family. I also was wondering about Tasty – haven’t seen her lately. Everything ok?

Also, Zenyatta is only about 3,000 fans away from 100,000 fans!!! I have been working on hard on promoting her on many Facebook pages trying very hard to get her to 100,000 fans hopefully before she has her foal – Let’s get her there!!! What a great tribute that would be.
