Good Morning and Happy Friday to Everyone,

Photography is such an amazing thing! Today, I wanted to share with you some of the gorgeous views TASTY and I have each day from our paddock. We truly have such a beautiful environment…and we actually do take the time to appreciate how fortunate we are! Yesterday was a lovely morning, and our dear pal, Sarah, was kind enough to take some of these photos for US to share with ALL of YOU!

The sky is such an amazing shade of blue!

Along this line, I wanted to make ALL of YOU aware of a FILM FESTIVAL that is being sponsored by HRTV and SANTA ANITA. It might be something many of you, who are real film and photography enthusiasts, would like to participate in during the upcoming months.

To quote the HRTV/SANTA ANITA news release sent to Dottie, “Santa Anita Park and HRTV have announced plans for a first-ever non-fiction documentary competition entitled “A Day at the Races”, which will be open to film students and filmmakers wishing to make a five-minute or less Santa Anita based film. ”

Access to the grounds and credentials to shoot the footage one would like to use in their presentation is being offered as part of the package for the individuals who enter the contest.

Per their press release, “A Day at the Races” entries will be judged by a panel of racing and entertainment professionals and will offer a first prize of $10,000, a second prize of $5,000 and a third prize of $3,000. An additional $10,000 first prize will be awarded to the winner through an on-line poll.”

All details and specific deadlines for each phase of this competition are outlined in the official press release, which I’ve included at the end of this post.

This sounds so exciting! What a great opportunity for all of you creative fans who have a great sense of ‘film’ and a true love and appreciation for our sport. Just imagine the different dynamic approaches one could use in doing a DOCUMENTARY SHORT with “A Day at the Races” theme.

Why not…..GIVE IT A “SHOT”! (No pun intended!) HOOVES CROSSED to all of my friends who enter!

HRTV FILM FESTIVAL TO DEBUT AT SANTA ANITA,
OVER $25K IN PRIZE MONEY OFFERED FOR DOCUMENTARY
SHORTS WITH ‘A DAY AT THE RACES’ THEME


ARCADIA, Calif. (Jan. 16, 2012)—Santa Anita Park and HRTV have announced plans for a first-ever non-fiction documentary competition entitled “A Day at the Races,” which will be open to film students and filmmakers wishing to make a five-minute or less Santa-Anita based film.

“A Day at the Races” entries will be judged by a panel of racing and entertainment professionals and will offer a first prize of $10,000, a second prize of $5,000 and a third prize of $3,000. An additional $10,000 first prize will be awarded to the winner through an on-line poll.

Application entries, which must be made in-person, will be accepted beginning Jan. 20, with the first day of shooting scheduled for Feb. 9. Shooting will continue through March 25 and all film submissions will be due no later than March 28, with winners to be announced on Santa Anita’s closing day, April 22.

“We’re very excited to be partnering with Santa Anita to initiate this project,” said HRTV President Scott Daruty. “Dating back to its opening in 1934, Santa Anita has been synonymous with great film production.

“The movie Seabiscuit was filmed almost entirely at Santa Anita in 2003 and it was a huge hit. We’re now about to roll out HBO’s dramatic series LUCK (on Jan. 29). We think there’s going to be a great deal of interest in this first-ever film festival.” There is a general entry fee of $200 and students may enter for $50 with valid student identification by February 15. Those entering after that date may do so for $250 and $75 respectively.

“This project is going to enable us to reach a group of highly creative people who are anxious to help us tell our story,” said Santa Anita’s Vice President of Sales and Marketing Chris Quinn. “It’s exciting to think about aspiring film makers at a number of local colleges and universities, as well as a wide range of independent filmmakers, converging on Santa Anita to produce a short-subject film of this nature. It should be a lot of fun.”

Each entrant will be given two film festival credentials which will allow shooting access to all public area at Santa Anita. Additionally, each entrant will be given 10 Club House passes good for admission throughout Santa Anita’s winter/spring meeting.

Final submissions should be made to www.hrtv.com. All entries must be made in person at Santa Anita. Credentials must also be picked up and payment made in-person at Santa Anita

    @Abigail from Montreal – Thanks for the Etta James link. I just love that song. I always said that if I ever got married I wanted that song played at my wedding. (At my age I don’t think that will ever happen though, LOL.) She had such an amazing voice. May she rest in peace.
    @Delrene – Happy Birthday! I’m going to try aging backwards too. In fact, I don’t think I’ll have any more period. I’ll be the big 5-0 this year, and I’m not too happy about it!

      I think Abigail’s link to “Lady of Fifty who remains undefeated” just above your post is not just a coincidence–it’s a sign good things are coming your way as you hit the 5-0 this year! Maybe you’ll be hearing the strains of “At Last” at your own wedding after all… Best wishes to you always in any event!

      Debbie, I love this song also! Since I was old enough to dream of my wedding, I always said that this would be ‘the song’ for my first dance, too! I’m still dreaming, and it will be ‘the song’! So keep dreaming anything can happen!

    I wanted to mention that my students sent Hanson a box of cards after the Breeders Cup. What is so cute is they think Hanson and Mistletoe are a couple. I wonder what Hanson’s owner thought of that?

    Congratulations to the Patriots altho it was a squeeker, very nerve racking. I hope they bring a better game to the Superbowl. My daughter said they played like the Packers did last week and she’s a long time, devoted Packers fan.

    He is so cute. Looks like Mom is doing fine too. Welcome to the big world little man! Neat that he was born on my birthday!!! I was born on my Mom’s birthday. Thanks to all of you for wishing me a happy day! Was hoping to make it to SA on my birthday, but another time for sure. Yep, counting backwards isn’t a bad idea from now on.

    Happy birthday Delrene! Happy colt birth to Rachel !! I just read on the website for Pegasus Training and Rehabilitation Center (Dr. Mike Dedomenico) in Redmond, WA that Blind Luck will be bred to Bernardini in 2012 — as will Rachel !!! Zenyatta’s guy Bernie is turning out to be quite the in demand sire!!

    Check out the Pegasus website video tour. It’s a gorgeous facility and I hope to be lucky enough to visit and – hooves crossed — see Blind Luck one of these days soon.

    Congratulations to Rachel Alexandra on the birth of her beautiful colt. He is so adorable! Stonestreet Farm has two pictures of him on their FB page. They say that she’s a natural mother and took right to her new baby. Apparently she’s going to be bred to Bernie this year also. Seeing all this makes me even more excited for Zenyatta. I know she’ll be a great mother too.

    Beautiful Zenyatta, Dottie, Your John, and the Mosses, your Barn 55 team and your LE team, thank you each and every one for bringing us all together and for making sure that we could keep updated about what was happening in Z’s world.

    I told you that I was going to my first horse fair this weekend and I wanted you to know that I shook hands with so many people who love horses. Here’s my report to you, Z- Dumplings, Z-sters and EANDO friends.

    Today, I went to the Annual SE Horse Fair! I went to listen, but if your ears are burning, there is a reason. I talked about Zenyatta (and wore my Z sweat shirt) and EANDO. I told everyone that we met on your diary and decided we just had to help horses at risk and I gave out my EANDO business cards too. I brought home a stack of cards and pamphlets and I became a new member of the Alabama Horse Council. I met and shook hands with Alabama folks who love horses, are members of the Alabama Horse Council, are members of the AL Quarter Horse Association and other groups in the SE. I invited them to join us on Z’s diary and EANDO face book and web page, so we could establish strong ties with each other to help horses. I was able to share with folks the latest legislative news. I am learning and learning some more. I was invited to speak to a group of young folks and also another group. We’ll see how that goes.

    This is all happening because you, Zenyatta, are the horse of my life time. You are lovely and so very loved. :)

    I also want to send a hug to Rachel with a big salute. This is one cute colt.

      What an inspiration you are! My little, well not ‘little’, but younger brother and their 5 boys live in Alabama. Hope they ‘hear’ some of what you’ve been up to there in AL about ZENNY and loving and saving horses!
      They’ve heard news of YOU, ZENNY from us here in NM, and it’s nice to know we’re all so connected in so many ways. We appreciate all you do, DMCQ!

        Hi Elizabeth! Thanks for commenting. I have a “little” sister and a “big” sister too. They have always both been bigger than me. Finally, my “big” sister and I are about the same size. :) Please consider using my e-mail to tell me who your “little” brother is and where in AL he lives. Perhaps I’ll get to meet the family one day and shake their hands. Wish we had more time to catch up with everyone who is posting. Thank all of you ZENNY’s Fan Family. You are all so amazing! Hope we get to all meet soon in Santa Anita and/or Kentucky!
