Happy Friday!
I sincerely hope the first week of 2012 has been a very good one for you, your friends and families! The NEW YEAR here at Lane’s End is off to a wonderful beginning. The weather in Lexington has really been rather pleasant. So far, it has been a much more mild winter than I experienced last year when arriving at my new home.
Dottie was teasing David this morning and asking…”What happened to the 7 degrees we were in last December?” It has not been anything like that to date. I must say TASTY and I are enjoying all of our time outdoors. It has rained a bit and that is terrific! The rain has provided ME with several fun opportunities to ‘roll and play in the mud’. Fortunately, Matt takes such great care of ME that I was ‘bathed and polished’ afterwards! He is such a GREAT SPORT! I am truly one fortunate horse to have so much personal attention!
Many of you are already keeping track of the time until MY BIG EVENT happens. Since it is so new to ME…and this is the first time I am experiencing all of the life changes with becoming a MOM…I am going day by day, taking great care of myself, eating right, and enjoying every moment!
We do have something very special to share with you today. Last November, when the video feed was being organized for my ZENYATTA BREEDERS’ CUP PARTY, I was able to meet MY PLUSHIE for the very first time. This PLUSHIE was created especially of ME for ME! I was able to see it… play with it… and ‘check it out’. What a thrill! I must say (BLUSH, BLUSH), I think they did an absolutely fabulous job capturing ME and ALL of my features! Purchase one here.
CAN YOU IMAGINE ME and A BABY ME?
The thought of having someone to nurture and care for is truly something to appreciate and look forward to in each of the coming months!
With Love,
Hugs to All~(Have a fabulous weekend…and enjoy all of the good racing around the country!)

Discreet Dancer blows them away @ Gulfstream today. Now he’s 2 for 2. Great pedigree with inbreeding to Secretariat, Northern Dancer, Buckpasser and Raise A Native. He sure looks like Secretariat & kind of reminds me of the ill-fated Eskendareya. Anyway, here’s a tape of his first win (today’s isn’t posted yet, except on my TDN & I don’t think that link will work). Check this baby out!

Wow, Z you seem to be very very interested in your plushie! So very nice! It is very warm here too. In fact we have not had any rain at all which is not so good for the farmers. I was wondering Z, some peeps on fb said you now weight 1,700 pounds! Is this right? I thought it might be a bit much but considering you are such a big girl (now, that is not to offend you-you are just a big, beautiful girl!) -well, I was not sure. So, how much do you actually weigh? That is sort of a nosy question to ask a lady and a Queen but it would be sort of interesting to know. Love you Z! xxoo

Thanks to all re: the Cigar webcam – I put it into my favorites. Never ever could figure it out at their website. I think it was Judy Gadwood’s post. It’s strange that I didn’t see them yesterday. I think sometimes as you all have been indicating, they don’t post right away. So I looked back today and there they were.
and Cynthia or whoever spots Mike – maybe we could ask him if he co-owns or owns CdeOro? It wouldn’t be rude I don’t think. She is a beauty for sure.
Congratulations to Chantal on her engagement. Is her fiance a Canadian? I will have to catch up on posts and links later, I went to my best friends Mother’s 90th birthday party today and it was a long drive up and back.
Pooped.
Happy Saturday and Sunday to all.

I do believe that jockeys can not own a thoroughbred horse that is racing, nor part of one while they are riding – after their career has ended there are no such restrictions. Anyone know for sure – seems that I had heard this years ago.
Vicki B. near Hollywood Park
Karen, I had not heard that, but that thought of a restriction was why I researched the question of whether our “Mikey” is part-owner of Champagne de Oro, and was surprised at not finding the answer, but no info on some other “Mike Smith” owner, either.
Karen Gogue
Thank you Vicki. I had ‘heard’ this since I was a kid over the years. We should be able to ‘find’ the answer somewhere. *Found it: CHRB (Calif. Horse Racing Board) RULE # 1505 (b) “No person licensed by the Board as a jockey, apprentice jockey, racing official, assiatant starter or vet assistant shall be licensed also as a horse owner”. Well, now we know it is against the ‘rules’ of racing – I would think it is in other states as well.
Rosemary McCauley So. Cal.
@Karen – The same rule regarding jockeys owning horses has always applied in Arizona also. I assume the Thoroughbred Racing Protective Bureau has the same rule and the TRPB covers all racing, regardless of state. I remember years ago there were two jockeys who were husband and wife and were not permitted to ride against each other, so they divorced but only on paper.
Vicki B. near Hollywood Park
I stayed up late to see the award-winning film “Buck” on Showtime tonight about Buck Brannaman (alias “the Horse Whisperer”, who followed Ray Hunt, after the Dorrances). I just loved it, and want to get the video. Along with his stunning horse-skills, I was struck by the story of the abuse he suffered as a child, that he has managed to not become himself, and indeed overcame extreme shyness, in order to become such a good teacher. http://buckthefilm.com/
Maryp (New York)
@Vicki: I was very impressed with Buck for many reasons and in some ways he reminded me very much of Will Rogers. His philosophies and his way with words as a teacher seem special to me.
He is truly a remarkable human being especially to overcome a very abusive childhood. Highly recommended to everyone.
