HELLO....from ME to YOU! Photo by Sarah Campion

Good Morning, Everyone!

I truly love to stand in my paddock and GREET all of my Lane’s End Pals as they are busy driving around the farm and working. I must say that is one of the greatest parts of where TASTY and I have our paddock…we are right in the middle of everything. It is absolutely fabulous!

Chris Balmes asked yesterday in the Diary Responses if TASTY and I will continue to be together once we have our foals. The answer is YES. The normal plan is to keep ‘foaling mares’ who are due at the same time together. Once their babies are born…they are able stay together as their foals are approximately the same age. Obviously, MOTHER NATURE plays a part in all of this…but that is the plan at this time.

My FARM FAMILY is so forward thinking. I believe this is one of the reasons they wanted TASTY and I together from the beginning. Not only do WE get along fabulously and our personalities blend together extremely well…but our paths in life are very similar. We are both ‘maiden’ or first time mares having our first foals. We were bred and conceived on exactly the same day…which I personally think is TOO CUTE. Thus, our babies are due at exactly the same time. All of this establishes a wonderful pattern which should allow US to remain friends for quite some time. LUCKY US!

On another note, when I wrote the entry for yesterday’s Diary, I did not know about the passing of INDIAN CHARLIE. ALL BLESSINGS to him! What a wonderful racehorse and stallion! HE will be deeply missed.

I imagine all of this is truly a reminder that LIFE is so very precious. It is important to treasure and appreciate each moment as it is happening…and the FRIENDS you are sharing these special times with each day!

    Sooooo happy you and Tasty will hopefully be able to stay together. I was wondering that same thing. Hopefully you will be BFF.

    @Michelle from Barn 55: Congrats to you! Wow, that takes a lot of perseverance to accomplish that. I’m so glad you’re able to do your “training” there on the backside. Zenyatta was surrounded by such amazing people and you are a great example of that! And what a thrill to ride you-know -who!!

    That is so sweet that you and Tasty will still be together after the babies arrive. I’m so happy for both of you. I’m already anticipating the wonderful pictures of both of you with your precious babies!
    It’s always sad to hear of the passing of any horse, famous race horse or beloved backyard horse. My condolences go to everyone who has ever lost a horse that they owned or loved.
    Isn’t it great fun to be in the middle of all the action? I bet everyone that goes by your paddock takes a moment to smile at you and TT. I know I would!

    @Kari Bussell I can’t make it to the track tomorrow so I won’t be in the raffle for the Lava Man breakfast but if Sharla lets me sneak along, I will certainly get photos! She will probably post photos on The Second Race Facebook page, too. Lava is one of her buddies, so he gets lots of camera time ;)

    Dear Z– thank you so much for clearing up the issue of whether you and Tasty will get to stay together. I’m so glad you will. Tasty is becoming part of the Z-family. (Pssst–Tasty… if you ever need to tell us anything about Z., feel free. ok? We can keep secrets!)
    @Stephanie (s in San Diego)–what a story! I’m so glad you daughter is healthy and going to be married. Best wishes to the bride and groom,and thanks for sharing.
    @Kari Bussell–I’m so glad you got a kick out of my story. It really is so funny when they try so hard to be sneaky, and it always backfires!
    @eastcoastkid–thank you for caring for the welfare of the horses and posting the list of Senators. One of ours from TX is on board, but the other is like a brick wall–impenetrable.
    @Susan in TN–love the quote from “Black Beauty”–the book that gave me my first inkling that I love horses. Also thank you for the “You Are There” moment with Chester/Chopper/Annie. Too cute! I’m sure they are all glad to be where they are.

    @Rosemary McCauley-You have always been funnier than I am. Are you render to accept the scepter of leadership? You are correct. Sue Fredrick is taking on a big responsibility. @LauraJ-As always I am very impressed with your horsey knowledge. No offense taken by me. I was merely indicating that I agreed with the sentiment of your post. @Sue Fredrick-You should sell tickets to the match. Your suggestion that we should have some sort of recognition for club members is well taken. I will give it some thought. I think the Super Bowl will be Packers versus Ravens. The Saints are good, though. However, it is very difficult for a warm weather team which plays inside to deal with the Packers at Lambeau. Looks like Packers will go undefeated. @Denise in AZ-If the Broncos get past New England this week, I will be a believer. @Joanna from Texas-Good post. @suew-I agree with your post. Good to see someone posting from the Old Dominion, a beautiful state. Have you been to Secretariat’s old farm? @Diana S-Red coat jokes? Here are a couple of jokes from Pat Buttram, the originator of our kind of humor. “The astronauts left a eight million dollar car on the moon and brought home a bag of rocks. That’s the same deal I got when I traded my car in at Cal’s used cars.” On Milton Berle “You know Milton recently switched from comedy to drama.     Huge race for the Moss’ debut maiden winner, Blingo, in the $750,000 CashCall Futurity tomorrow!     It was thrilling watching the Moss’ colors and Mike Smith running in much the same style as our sweet Zenyatta! Blingo lurked around at the back of the pack until the top of the stretch, when he unleashed a big surge and just blew by the rest of the field to win going away! He even had a shadow roll like Z’s, and with his white socks, was just an incredible reminder of what you used to do dear, Queen Z!!

    No one has commented on the HBO preview last Sunday of the new series rolling out at the end of January, “Luck”. For now, all I can say is, I was very disappointed, to say the least. Will be interested in others’ takes on it. Among the blogosphere, reviews are mixed, at least insofar as the ones I’ve checked in to read comments. I was really hopeful it would be a more balanced portrayal of the sport, but I did not find that to be at all true.

    Gosh Zenny, cant believe it’s almost your 400th post! HIGH HOOF for keeping your fans so connected with you! On another note I would like to offer condolences to everybody associated with Indian Charlie, what a terrible loss. Oh and also good luck to Blingo in the Hollywood Futurity :D

    @Kari Bussell-Lava Man ws always one of my favorites. he and Native Diver are the only horses to win the Hollywood God Cup three times in a row. Also, it is not news that your husband goes overboard at Christmas time. With a person like you, how could he not? @Susan in TN-I see you are continuing to take good care of my man Chester. Try not to let him get too frustrated. I know what that is like.

    I’m so glad you and Tasty have a good view of the comings and goings from your paddock. You are so curious about everything. :) Is it possible that you and Tasty could deliver on the same day. Keep warm and cozy Big Mama. Too bad you can’t have a hot toddy.
