Good Morning, Everyone!
I truly love to stand in my paddock and GREET all of my Lane’s End Pals as they are busy driving around the farm and working. I must say that is one of the greatest parts of where TASTY and I have our paddock…we are right in the middle of everything. It is absolutely fabulous!
Chris Balmes asked yesterday in the Diary Responses if TASTY and I will continue to be together once we have our foals. The answer is YES. The normal plan is to keep ‘foaling mares’ who are due at the same time together. Once their babies are born…they are able stay together as their foals are approximately the same age. Obviously, MOTHER NATURE plays a part in all of this…but that is the plan at this time.
My FARM FAMILY is so forward thinking. I believe this is one of the reasons they wanted TASTY and I together from the beginning. Not only do WE get along fabulously and our personalities blend together extremely well…but our paths in life are very similar. We are both ‘maiden’ or first time mares having our first foals. We were bred and conceived on exactly the same day…which I personally think is TOO CUTE. Thus, our babies are due at exactly the same time. All of this establishes a wonderful pattern which should allow US to remain friends for quite some time. LUCKY US!
On another note, when I wrote the entry for yesterday’s Diary, I did not know about the passing of INDIAN CHARLIE. ALL BLESSINGS to him! What a wonderful racehorse and stallion! HE will be deeply missed.
I imagine all of this is truly a reminder that LIFE is so very precious. It is important to treasure and appreciate each moment as it is happening…and the FRIENDS you are sharing these special times with each day!
To ALL OF YOU, who are so special and have shared so much with ME each day….here’s wishing YOU a peaceful and wonderful weekend!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

Rest in peace Indian Charlie, he was taken from us too early.
Have a wonderful weekend Zenny!!!

Another milestone for when in foal is when the flank measures more than the girth–has anyone been taking those measurements?
Terry
Do I see snow in your paddock?
LauraJ (Cincinnati, OH)
beautiful picture. It is appropriate that a friendly, inquisitive horse such as Zenyatta has centrally located real estate. She so loves to watch the world go by.

@Sue Fredrick, Packers are my pick to win the Super Bowl. I think it will be Packers versus Steelers.
Patricia
Love you, Honey – and Merry Christmas to you and your entire family – everywhere!

You are such a cutie patootie!

@Terry Crow, re: skipping posts, I wasn’t referring to your redneck jokes. I find them amusing. If the actual rednecks and/or wannabe rednecks aren’t offended, then I am not. :-)

Whispering a private, special message to your foal, Zenyatta, from John Henry… March 9th :-)

Happy Weekend to you and Tasty! Stay warm and take good care!!

Tasty was a talented racehorse, as well. I have looked up her resume, and she had some impressive races. This is another thing you two have in common. Do you two ever reminisce about your racing days?
Rosemary McCauley - Southern California
Glad to hear that you and Tasty will remain together after your respective foals are born. March is not so far off and we are all anxious to see both youngsters. There was discussion on an earlier post about whether or not Tasty’s foal had a chance of being gray. I don’t remember what the chances are, if any. Maybe someone will remind us.
@Sue Frederick – you have accepted a very important position – hope you’re up for it.
Linda
Great that you have such a wonderful “gal – pal” and that you will share such an exciting future with your babies. You are such a blessing to us all, Z, as are all your team members. Peace and joy to all of you.

My Queen,
You look so content and happy. I love these photos your Dottie shares with us. Please thank Sarah for sharing these wonderful pictures of you and Tasty. My heart swells with Joy and my eyes tear over with each new photo of YOU. I love you with all of my heart.
Dearest Dottie- Thank you so much for answering Chris Balmes question. I think a number of us have wondered how long Zenyatta & Tasty would stay together. As always, thank you for ALL that YOU do for US..
@ Cynthia H- Great Friend, It would give me the greatest of JOY if you were in bed resting like you are supposed to be. I’m telling-LOL! Get Well! 12th heart!!
Shari Voltzfrom Ohio
@Dawn thank you for the picture of Indian Charlie. I looked at it and thought how thin he looked. I never knew he was sick. He went straight to Rainbow Bridge. Run free sweet guy :)
Joanna from TX
I gotta love those redneck jokes! I live in a place that calls itself the ‘Cowboy Capital of the World’ and I wouldn’t doubt it.
@Sue Fredrick-Wisconsin…I’ve never been a blond but I get tickled by the ‘senior’ jokes sometimes. Best one was from Bill Cosby…’only thing worse than not remembering where you parked the car is not remembering which car you brought’.
Have a great weekend, everybody.

@Yvonne & Maurice- RE: #398-I felt like I could barely breath after learning Lost in the Fog had been ethanized. He will always remain one of my all time favorites. His story and his last race….I’ll never forget. thank you for sharing your story and love for him. I cried yesterday over both Strike the Gold & Indian Charlie…and for those that knew and loved them.

Good Morning Beautiful Girl;
Awhile ago, I said I would share any responses I had received from my representatives in Congress …I have received an email from one of my two senators; I am copying it to Zenny’s website to let you know his response. Hopefully, you will all do what you can and contact your Senators and Representatives; it makes a BIG difference!! Please see what follows!
Dear Mary,
Thank you for contacting me regarding the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act (S. 1176). As always, I value your input and strive to keep you updated on the important issues facing us today.
Since the last slaughterhouse in the United States closed in 2007, over 240,000 horses have been exported to Canada and Mexico. The majority of these horses have been slaughtered for food. As a proud pet owner, I take animal cruelty very seriously and support efforts to protect animals from abuse and people who seek to profit from their harm.
It is for these reasons that I am a cosponsor of the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act, which was introduced by Senator Mary Landrieu (D-LA) on June 9, 2011. S. 1176 would prohibit the possession, shipment, transportation, purchase, sale, delivery or receipt of a horse or horse meat when intended for human consumption. This bill is currently under review by the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation, of which I am not a member. As a cosponsor of S. 1176, I am hopeful for its quick passage in the Senate.
Again, thank you for sharing your thoughts with me. If you have any additional questions or comments, please feel free to contact me or visit my website at http://www.scottbrown.senate.gov.
Sincerely,
Scott P. Brown
United States Senator
I just this morning sent him a thank you email and told him I was going to post his response on a website which thousands of people access each day. With luck, you will be sending your own letters and receiving your own comments in return. Scott Brown is up for re-election in MA and I am a realist…he is not a fool and there are animal lovers all over Mass…it is a win-win-win for him, animal lovers and all US Horses. I guess what I am trying to say is, each of us does make a difference…give it a try. I take no response from my other senator as not being with the program and also no being up for re-election. We will see what the next election cycle brings.
Love to all…most especially to you, Zenny

Dear Z, you look quite Regal standing there in your paddock watching everything that is going on around you!! Thank you Sarah for the lovely picture of our Queen.

Dear Zeny: Happy to hear you and
Tasty will be together after you have your foals. Thanks for answering the questions of Chris Balmes.
@ Can you please ask DOTTIE about Life Is Sweet? I am sure she missed my question with all the postings. I did a few postings asking about her. Thanks Zeny! Hugs, Marilu

@Dawn Conrad- You words always stir the deepest of emotions in me. Thank you for being so generous with your words, time, memories, & HEART.
@Barbara Wood- I love your story. As someone who has been married 31 years now..He has never managed to surprise me either. In fact, literally, yesterday I discovered this years big “surprise” by accident also. Imagine how much I got a kick out of your story. It made me laugh and laugh some more. My husband is like a kid at Christmas and really tends to go WAY overboard.

@eastcoastkid: Thank you for posting that encouraging letter. I will redouble my efforts to contact the senators that are “reviewing” the bill. Or is that “stalling” the bill?
@All: A reminder that you can go to http://www.equi-army-ndo.com for updates on horse welfare activity.

@Rosemary McCauley: Yes, Tasty’s foal can be grey. A grey horse must have at least one grey parent, so baby Tasty might get that dominant G from mom. Zenny’s baby can NOT be grey. Both babies could be purple with polka dots and I would think them beautiful!

Good morning Zenyatta I am so glad that everything is going well. I think you and Tasty are so adorable I pray the day I get pregnant I have a best friend like you to lean on. Also I always listen to Vic Stopher online when he annoyances Hollywood park and I love that he says your name at the end. Best wishes and we love you girl.

Zenny, I just returned from a four-week trip. It’s great to be home and back in touch with you, “the greatest racehorse we’ve ever seen!”

@ALL Z’ISTERS
Heard from Marlene Dodge today. She sent me photos of the “Cloud Family,” as she now calls the little herd we helped rescue. She says they are dear, sweet mares and are all due in March. They are in foster care right now. The little TB cross is at Valley View and doing very well. I sent photos to Barbara Grimaldi so hopefully they will find their way onto the Equi-Army website soon so you can all see our little herd.
That’s the good news. The bad news is that their hooves are really bad. One of the photos you will hopefully see soon illustrates that. Marlene is hoping that a blacksmithing school here in Sacramento can help with some corrective work. Also, with winter setting in strong on the Central Coast Range, she is looking to raise $2k for a large hay cube purchase. It would be really nice if some of us could help her with that.
I’M GOING TO TRY TO GO WITH HER TO THE BLACKSMITH AND GET SOME MORE PHOTOS OF OUR LITTLE HERD. I’M VERY EXCITED ABOUT THAT PROSPECT. ANYWAY, IT IS GOOD TO REPORT SOME NEWS THAT IS NOT ABOUT A LIFE HANGING IN THE BALANCE! I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO MARCH WHEN WE CAN ALL MEET LITTLE CLOUD! THANK YOU ALL AGAIN AND GOD BLESS!

We just received Z’s poster, t-shirts and hat. They are all fantastic, especially the Dancing Queen poster. Next is to get it framed and hung in a prominent spot on our “horse” wall.
