Good Morning, All!
Thank you so much for all of the sweet responses yesterday in relation to my 2 pals…Michelle and Rapid Redux. Michelle called Dottie and commented how extremely touched she is by all of your kind wishes and thoughts. I know she wants to thank you as well…and is writing a POST for you.
As you can see, TASTY and I are doing fine. You can see her grazing in the back of this photo…and her ‘baby bump’. M. Kern and Marshall both asked about US yesterday. WE are doing great and both due in early March! As many of you may remember, both TASTY and I were bred on the exact same day last April. How exciting is this! WE have so much in common in so many ways. She is my very dear friend!
The Holiday rush is definitely upon US. There are some new photos of ME in the SHOP now…just going up today. (Blush, Blush) The ZENYATTASHOP elves are busy getting everything shipped out as soon as possible filling your orders. They want you to have your items in a timely fashion before the holiday.
Blessings to STRIKE THE GOLD! He is in all of our hearts and thoughts!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

Oh, Zenny! What a lovely sight — you and Tasty in the early morning mist! BEAUTIFUL! What a wonderful way to start the day. Love to you and Tasty, too! Hugs!
@ Champions departed: We lost Strike the Gold yesterday and now we bid farewell to the great Indian Charlie. Sweet heavenly racing and grazing. Rest in peace, Sweeties. We certainly will miss you.

@Terry Crow: Thanks for the nomination offer! I will try to carry the redneck ball for the Old North State (nickname for North Carolina)! You might be a redneck if your flower garden is located within a painted tractor tire!
Keep the laughter alive! Hugs to all! (Offense to none)

@Terry Crow
Thanks for the comment on “During Man O War’s time”. I also
did not like the jockey’s “fixing” the races. Of course I don’t have a problem with harmless Lasix, but when you are talking Bute and steroids while running. That does not make me happy. Maybe I will have to move on past those first few pages. For now the book is unread in in retirement. I will rethink my decison.

I actually did not recognize Zenny as the horse Michele was riding.
You made the point as to why, no shadow roll. She was probably wondering or thinking, I am really going into retirement.

@Terry Crow: Did we fire the bouncer?
@All: My “day job” is full of stress working for a government agency that is often times less than enlightened. My free time is spent deep within the animal rescue community. My sense of humor, and enjoying that of others, is what keeps me sane (okay, we can debate that). When I lose my sense of humor – somebody please call the coroner. BTW: I often post a great deal about racing, breeding, genetics, horse politics, and Zenyatta herself and her team. They DO have great senses of humor. And Zenny does too as has been told by many of us here who have been around her.
@Rednecks: I used to thumb my nose at them until I got to thinking – my dad’s dad was born in Georgia, his dad in TN, and his dad in TN too. Then the tale male line jumps to England. Drat. Now I’ve got to come up with some RedCOAT jokes!
Grin on, Kari!

hello dear zenyatta and dottie!! i have a question today… zenyatta, will you be spending time in a paddock with tasty and both of your babies once you both become moms? i don’t know how this works in the horse world and i am very curious – i know you and tasty are great friends so i was hoping you would get to spend time together after you both give birth – it would be so great to see you both running free with your babies by your sides! much love to our dear zenyatta and her loyal friend tasty – and to dottie and all zens’ human friends – wishing you all the most happy christmas and a very healthy new year!!! love always, monica

@Yvonne and Maurice, IIRC, Tasty went to Candy Ride.

@Diana S–you are TOO funny, and boy, do we need some laughs! Hugs.
@Kari Bussell–you are right–we are laughing at ourselves, and we need that.
I have to share something funny. We’ve been sort of looking at tvs, with the idea of getting a new one soon. Well, I was home alone last night. Hubby had gone to our daughter’s to check on a plumbing problem. My phone rang, and it was the credit card company calling me to see if a charge was fraudulent. It was made online at an electronics store. I asked the lady to let me get off the phone to call my hubby (we are both on the card). So I did, and he was really mad. He was at our daughter’s , and they did it from her computer, thinking I wouldn’t find out because the bill would come in after Christmas. (He had forgotten that I zealously montor the bill online throughout the month). Well, I had to call the cc company back and tell her all was fine, but (jokingly) that it ruined my Christmas surprise. Then I got uncontrollably tickled and had to confess to her that we’ve been married 45 years, and in that time,he has NEVER been successful in surpriising me with anything. Realizing that they are just doing their job, we all had a good laugh when he got home. His record remains intact.LOL!

Good morning. Thank you Laura J. Wow, Candy Ride is one of my favorites. Tasty should also have a gorgeous baby! I can’t wait to see Zenyatta and Tasty’s babies playing and learning together.

Good Morning Precious!!! It’s been a hard week losing Strike the Gold and Indian Charlie and the other day we lost JC’s Pride who was only 2 years old. Please take care of yourself my Queen. We love you so much and are so grateful you are safe and sound and happy.
Cynthia H./Santa Anita Girl
@Dawn Conrad: I was very sad to learn the news regarding Indian Charlie. I am glad that you have such a beautiful and personal memory of your brief moment in time with him, to cherish always.
@The Kennedys in San Diego: Thank you for your kind words. Michelle is totally awesome!
Kari: I am still here! 12th Heart.

Now this might be my favorite picture of all time……….I also have a question today re: Zenyatta and Tasty after the foals are born. Will they spend their days together in the paddock together with their foals and what about after the foals are weaned? Do the two of them go back together? I think we are all noticing how attached the 2 mares are becoming.

@Joy- sorry you find us offensive, but many of us who are rednecks truly enjoy it. I suggest you skip them.
@Gary Moulton- as a long time Bronco fan (who is soooo excited this year!) I will be happy if we get by the Patriots this weekend with a ‘W’, the playoffs would be yummy icing on the cake!! and the Superbowl… after having so many disappointing seasons would be awesome! :)

@Barbara Wood (Texas)…I had to laugh when reading about your Christmas surprise. It happened to me several years ago, when I bought my daughter her first car. She was turning 16 and had been battling health issue and was to have her first chemo infusion the day after her 16th BDay…So I wanted to give her something to look forward to for years to come. So…I find the car, plan to spend the ridiculous amount to have it delivered with a big red bow, and put in the driveway. All planned, entire family is coming over for the party and surprise..3 hours before it is to arrive, phone rings, she picks it up…”We are calling to confirm the delivery of the VW Beetle to 14…..”. So, I know how your poor husband feels:)
But ended well…she loved it and 9 years later is still driving her beloved bug, healthy and about to get married.

I usually open the blog when I get up in the morning and peruse the messages that were posted after mine. When I post in the afternoon, if I do, I do not return until the following morning. Imagine my surprise when I read last night and this morning’s messages. My timing was a bit bad last night, as the storm apparently hit right after I left. I have stated several times that these silly jokes are just for everyone’s amusement. For those who feel compelled to take up the redneck cause, if a real redneck posts and complains, that is one thing. Speaking for a group when you are not a member of that group does not deserve a response, If any of the Z community thinks that Jeff Foxworthy is, indeed, a redneck, he is a wealthy one. He actually stole this act from an old comedian named Pat Buttram, who used to be on the Green Acres TV show. Buttram had been telling these jokes for 50 years and used to appear regularly on the Robert W. Morgan radio show in the morning in Los Angeles. I do not need to defend myself or others for these jokes. I have stated several times that my sense of humor is not for everyone. If there is an over. However, my voice will not be silenced until Zenyatta herself tells me to knock it off. And, I doubt that she speaks in the type of dialect that has been assigned to her by one poster.

@Karen Gogue-Agree with you about John’s barn of beauties. They are something to behold. @Kari Bussell, Debbie G, Sally B, Judy Berube and signofthetimes. Thank you. @LauraJ-I always appreciate your posts as you are obnviously very learned in all things horsey. I wouldn’t call your post a ringing endorsement, but the sentiments should be followed by all. I know I do. @Barbara Wood and Barbara Grimaldi-I appreciate the sentiments. I may have to try a few bottles of Guinness before I post.@Marshall-You are president of the North Carolina chapter, if the club is not disbanded. @signofthetimes-The Man O’War book is a honest analysis of racing conditions and personalities of his time. The first few pages are rough, but if you go back to reading it I think you will like it. @Diana S-We have been through this before. As Yogi Berra said, its deja vu all over again.

@All – I apologize if my jokes/redneck humor has offended anyone. That was never my intent. Having said that, I come from a long line of farmer/rancher/ hillbilly/rednecks. My family and I affectionately refer to each other using one or the other or all of the above terms. My father was a veteran and a truly great man, and I won’t go into all his virtues, but he was proud of his heritage and so are we. We lost our father on January 17, 2011. These jokes and references are made in part to remember my father’s sense of humor and in part because laughter is the best stress reliever there is. I have a very fast-paced, stressful job and a chuckle or two a day helps immensely. We have some amazingly talented writers on this post and I enjoy reading all of their comments and jokes. I won’t mention them by name because I know I will leave someone out and I don’t want to do that, but you all know who you are. I don’t count myself among them, because I just repeat what I hear, but some of the posters here just come up with it on the spot. But I respect everyone’s right to say what’s on their mind. However, my comments and jokes have never been and never will be meant to insult anyone.
@Terry Crow – I appreciate your humor and the humor of all other jokesters.

@ Patti from South Carolina – yes I read Snowman and absolutely LOVED it!!! What a great story AND horse. I have a neat story of my own to tell related a bit to the book – – Harry talks of a man named Mickey Walsh in parts of the book and I was like “oh my”. Mickey was one of my step dads (Jim Melton) best friends and as a matter of fact Mickey introduced Jim to my mother. Mickey’s son was our vet and so we knew the Walsh family. Jim was from NY but used to travel to Southern Pines, NC for a Steeplechase that Mickey held on his farm every year and on one of those trips he met Lynda (my mother) and the rest was history – – we all moved from NC to Long Island NY. We did quite a bit of riding when we were in Southern Pines and in order to help the adjustment to NY Jim would take my sister (I was more interested in boys) for lessons with Harry DeLeyer. I never really knew how Jim knew Harry – but now I know – he knew him thru Mickey. Anyhow, I also got the pleasure of visiting Mickey and his family in Ireland. We went to the Dublin Sales and a day of races. It was wonderful. Since those good old days both Jim, my mother, and Mickey have passed on. I do however see Harry’s children Marty, Andre and Harriet at some of the horseshows that we go to on Long Island. Marty also comes to our barn to teach on occasion. The woman who rides the horse next to mine trains with Marty. So many stories and the world is a small place huh?

Oh and Hi Big Z. There are those beautiful ears again in this photo AND just loved your big belly in a recent post. You are soo cute. I called my sister to tell her to take a look and she said she already did. She’s a big fan too and I have her addicted to your website. Love and miss you always. Can’t wait to meet you someday.

@Terry Crow and all the other members of the Redneck Club – well put, and all my generations of hick relatives would agree. If I hadn’t grown up enmeshed in that humor all my life, I might not be comfortable playing the game. But no offense is intended, so just skate on by, if it’s not to your tastes.
