Good Morning,
So many fun things are currently happening in our industry. Last year, as you may remember, I won the First Secretariat “VOX POPULI” Award. Mrs. Penny Chenery, who bred, owned and raced Secretariat, felt an annual award should be established in our industry “acknowledging the star horse who brings the most excitement and attention to the sport”.
Per Mrs. Chenery, “It is my hope that the Secretariat ‘Vox Populi’ Award will be an honor that reflects the heart and soul of racing and will help build upon the devotion the public has for a horse they love.”
It was Mrs. Chenery’s desire last year that I be honored with the first Award. (Blush, Blush!) I was and still am so touched by this thought and deeply appreciate her kindness in granting ME the privilege of being the first recipient.
This year and in future years, a tradition is being established encouraging ALL FANS to vote on-line for the horse of their choice. Public voting concludes on January 2, 2012. The results will then be announced and a presentation ceremony will take place at Santa Anita on January 15th.
The winner will be determined based upon the results / thoughts of the following equally weighed 3 sectors: 1) The Public Poll which fans are participating in right now, 2) the “Vox Populi” Committee, and 3) Mrs. Chenery.
The NOMINEES for the 2011 ‘VOX POPULI’ Award are:
Uncle Mo
Rapid Redux…. (He’s running at Laurel today at 2:55 EST. Hooves Crossed!)
Goldikova
Havre de Grace.
To vote, please go here.
Mrs. Chenery so wants the VOICE of the fans to be heard. Your love and the admiration you have for various horses does ‘matter’. As Mrs. Chenery stated, “Vox Populi is an age-old Latin expression that literally means ‘voice of the people’. The award gives recognition to the horse who generated the most fan response during the year.”
All 4 of these horses have had such a great year in his / her own way. I’ve followed their races and careers very closely.
Decisions, Decisions! Hmmmm! WHO IS MY VOTE FOR 2011?
With Love,
Hugs to All~

You more than deserved to be the first to get that award! I have already voted for this year! They are all great horses!
Love you!

Dear Zenyatta-I only want to vote for you! Our love and admiration for you will never dimmer- it will last for ever. Much happiness, beautiful lady!
Lynda
An award that you so deserved. I voted in this about a week ago. You look Absolutely amazing by the way. Pregnancy agrees with you.
Liz
Z..You still have my vote (my heart too)!
Nancy
It was a tough one this year. No one with your presence, but I decided to go with the girls again and cast my ballot for Goldikova. She’s been an amazing achiever and her accomplishments are less known here than in Europe. I thought maybe we should set that straight.
Patricia
To be honest, I feel Blind Luck deserves the award the most. She might be retired now but she still deserves it the most

Hey Big Mama Z! I’m in that photo. I’m taking a photo of your John taking a photo of us waiting in line. I already voted in the Vox Populi award. What a great idea Penny Chenery had for this award. And, my favorite of all time won the first award given. That was such a great day in racing for me last year. It’s always great to see the connections of Zenyatta!!

Dear Zenny,
It sure is hard to decide. The nominees are all awesome.
Hope you are having a quiet, uneventful day in the chilly KY air growing your winter coat. Just heard last week on HRTV Zoey Cadman, just clipped a horse that was racing for the day. Boy clipping that coat sure does make horses move quicker. I expect that the LE crew want you to keep warm and move slow in your later months of pregnanacy. Enjoy your exercise with TT and eating healthy. XXXXOOOO

Dear Zenny,
Found this lovely video of your “DAD”, from the Darley site. It shows him twirling his head and running with his tail up in his paddock just like you. TOO CUTE !!!!

Just click on video footage on the left and watch him in action and you will see him run like Zenny in his paddock.

I plan to vote, but like you, I just can’t make up my mind.

Love you Zenyatta! ^-^

To me, Rapid Redux is the clear winner. A real iron horse whose streak is just an awesome racing story.

Hello Mamma Z!!
I remember this year’s award ceremony very well… it was so neat to meet Mrs. Chenery :-) I look forward to attending next year’s ceremony!!
~~~~~~
I will vote for MY favorite! Hopefully, a “debate” doesn’t start on your blog ~ we all have our own opinion and feelings on WHICH horse is worthy of this wonderful award. :D
~~~~~~
A big kiss on your soft nose and and loving pat on your Baby Bump. I love you, Queen Zenny! XOXOXO

Ethical (or unethical) issues have plagued racing since the days of Man O War and before and will continue. Attempts to tarnish RR record will continue as he is doing “what no other has done”. The stewards investigated and found nothing. What happens behind the scenes is behind the scene and will always go on.

Started reading “Man O War” by Dorothy Ours and put it down after the first 5 pages due to the ethics that existed at that time.

The Davis in the article IS NOT SCOOTER DAVIS/of Flatout fame, see how rumors get started.!!!!!

Dear Zenny – I’d vote for your again in a heartbeat, even though you are retired you continue to be as visible and active as ever! You warm our hearts and it is so wonderful of you to champion this great award!

Zenny, I know you don’t officially qualify for this award in 2011 BUT you certainly still have the fan’s hearts. I believe YOU will always be a spokes”horse” for your industry and will continue to inspire people worldwide. I’m putting my thinking cap on and will vote soon.
tony and sue
Zenny, If we could vote for you we would certainly do so. No other horse continues to inspire others … no other horse has the people’s hearts.
There are some good choices this year, too.
We’ll use your link to do some voting.

I have voted! Thanks, Zenny, for the reminder and the link to go to to vote. Can’t wait to see the results! You are still and always will be, however, the BENCHMARK!!!

@Sally B-There are literally thousands of redneck jokes, some funny, others not. I try to list the best of these for this site, but my sense of humor is not for everyone. Glad to see that you are enjoying them. Sounds like you were a redneck joke all by yourself at Lambeau. @Barbara Wood-Thank you. I was afraid it was too subtle. @Trina Nagele-Great poem. @Denise in AZ-Haven’t seen you post in a while. Hope all is well. @Rosemary McCauley-Thank you. Hard to believe, though, that there are still people who don’t realize the significance of January 27. @Carolyn Caswell-Brown-Unfortunately, the frog joke applies to me all too well. Glad you enjoyed it. @signofthetimes-You are correct. What passed for ethical behavior in Man O’War’s day was significantly different than today. @Rosemary McCauley and Diana S, charter members of the Arizona/New Mexico chapter-You might be a redneck if you re-use dental floss to save money. @Judy Berube, president of New England chapter-You might be a redneck if you go to the post office to research your family tree. @Susan in TN and Kari Bussell-You might be a redneck if you prefer the Sears catalogue to Charmin. You might be a redneck if your computer monitor is up on blocks. You might be a redneck if the idea for the Budweiser frogs came from listening to you and your friends trying to read the label on the bottle. Will post a joke later.

That was a wonderful day! Meeting Mrs Chenery was a thrill and an honor! Mike, your JOHN and DOTTIE and Mr & Mrs Moss were so kind as they always are!
~~~~~~~~
I want to thank your JOHN again for letting us go back to his barn on Saturday and visit! Eblouissante is looking fantastic and she has really filled out since we saw her the last time in July! She is as gentle as you were with our granddaughter Madison! She was snuggling and kissing on her like you did last year! You can see the collage I made of both pictures on your FaceBook page
