Good Morning,
I hope all of you had a wonderful weekend. I would imagine you are busy getting ready for the holidays.
I must say, that is one thing I do not physically have to do, organize things for the upcoming holiday celebrations. I am fortunate enough to have all of my dear HUMAN PALS take care of this for ME! I enjoy all of the festivities and being included though! It is so special to have my feelings be considered all of the time. THANK YOU!
As everyone was teasing ME the other day, they also reminded ME that I have one job right now to focus on…doing all of the right things as a MOM-TO-BE.
Ann took this photo when she and Jerry were here a week ago. I still have all of my great dapples, my coat is getting a bit thicker for winter…which is great news…and my TUMMY. Well, it is happily getting a bit bigger in all of the right places.
Everyone feels I could not look better! YIPPEE!
I must say, TASTY is also looking great! She is sending her regards to each of you as well.
Enjoy your day!
I’m sending each of you one BIG HUG from ME to YOU!
With Love,
HUGS To ALL~

@Yvonne and Maurice – I saw a news report where they were chasing wild mustangs with helicopters. They would chase them til they had nothing left. The helicopter was right over their heads & the poor things were jsut standing there. Broke my heart & can’t still believe some one would do something like that or think its ok. WHY?

Dear Zenyatta. What a beautiful mother-to-be you are. There is no way you could look better, you are perfect!!!!!! It had to be wonderful for Ann to spend some time with you and we love the picture!! You keep doing everything you need to do for that little “wiggly” baby. We are so looking forward to it’s arrival. Say hello to Tasty. Sweet dreams, my love. Hugs and kisses. XXXOOO
@All – Left messages for several in my post toward the beginning of #394 over the weekend, hope you got to see them. Thank you to everyone for their great links over the weekend.
@Brenda S – You are one amazing grandmother lady! I admire your relationship with Vic a great deal. Mom hasn’t named the new kitty yet, although I think she is leaning toward Noel.
@Sally B – You have given and received great love living with your furry friends. Though the time may be short, from your description the blessings were many. They each touch our lives in remarkable ways. My heart is with you in understanding how hard the loss can be, I have lived it many times.
@Sandy (Northeast Ohio) – Cute kitty story!
@Kathy Kimber – Lucky you, seeing the special presentation of War Horse. I can’t wait, just have to plan to take plenty of tissue I’m sure.
@Linda in NJ – So glad you are doing well! How fun that you are planning on going to the Breeder’s Cup 2012 also, hope to meet you there.
@Debbie from Ohio – All of us that love and follow the sport of horse racing have probably had that dream at one time or other of standing in the winner’s circle with our own horse. It is fantastic that you have actually lived it. I am so sorry for the loss of your trainer; you must have had a close relationship. It had to be hard having to sell your horses, but I am glad they are doing well. Once again, welcome!
@signofthetimes – So sorry to hear about Weemissfrankie! I hope she recoveries fully. Congratulations on getting Bernie’s moneigh. Sounds like you have a great collection going on! How fun!! Thank you for the link to Vertigineux and her foal. Always like to keep up to date on the whole family.
@Lynn from Hollywood Park – Thank you for letting us know about the War Horse soundtrack. I went right out and played it on Rhapsody. It is very beautiful!!! How wonderful that you were able to meet Mr. Williams and get his autograph.

Have you ever wondered what it is like to own and run a thoroughbred breeding farm? Well if you have, then I have the perfect book for you. I found this book when I was visiting Old Friends in Lexington. They have a great little gift shop with proceeds going toward the running of the farm and I have found some wonderful items there. The name of the book is “Country Life Diary”. It was written by Eclipse Award winning author Josh Pons. It is a daily diary covering three years in the life of a thoroughbred horse farm. It includes all of the joys and disappointments of breeding, foaling, raising, and selling these magnificent horses. The Pons are a third generation family operating a thoroughbred breeding farm in Maryland. You will get an inside look at a way of life which has been disappearing from the landscape of many rural areas as more development takes place. There is a great deal of fantastic equine information told with realistic honesty as well as moments of sheer poetry. If you enjoy “Country Life Diary”, you may also like the second book written by Mr. Pons called “Merryland”. It is about the training facility the family operates on an adjacent property. I have included a link to a video about the family and farm. Enjoy!

@All – Here is something that was part of the newsletter I received from Three Chimney’s over the weekend. We all know what is going on in the news right now and it is great to see this farm speaking out concerning the actions they have been taking on behalf of their horse’s welfare. I shared their protocol in a previous post. There is also a link to an interview that was done for local TV that received national attention.
Good afternoon! This has been a pretty hectic week at Three Chimneys, but in a good way. As many of you know by now, we made the decision to go public with the protocol we’ve followed for years regarding supporting our horses once their racing careers are behind them. We’ve received a lot of positive responses and a lot of questions, which is great. The more people discuss this topic, the more solutions and ideas will be found and the more farms, breeders and owners will discuss it.

Hi Z! You are looking wonderful! You can really see that baby bump. Happy holidays to you!
The Kennedys in San Diego
Looking at your bronze and this most recent photo, one can conclude only one thing.
@Debbie from Ohio — Thank you for sharing your observation regarding a mare’s reaction to her fetus’ movement — that is, turning around and looking. Priceless.
The Kennedys in San Diego
@Dawn Conrad — Not only have I wondered what it would be like to own and run a Thoroughbred breeding farm, I have envisioned myself in that role. I will be certain to read your recommendation.

THIS IS A VERY CUTE OBSERVATION; MAIDEN MARE ACTING LIKE SHE IS GOING TO FOAL; LOUD FAMILY VISITS; MARE STOPS FOALING;
“Maiden Mare Got My Hope Up….?
Went down to the barn tonight, got ready to feed when I noticed my mare acting odd. She suddenly started laying down and looking at her flank area then getting up frequently, swishing her tail around like a mad woman, not interested in feed at all. I called the hubby and told him what was going on. He came down and sat with me for about an hour before 2 car loads of his family pile into the barn… he gave his mother the update before coming to the barn (She has been very excited to see this foal and brought all the grandkids to see… Oh and this is a very loud family). Needless to say everything came to a screeching halt! Mare started acting normal, eating and napping and hubby got “the look” as soon as everyone left. I plan on going back down to the barn later and checking on her. She is due any day so I’m hoping things start moving along again. The only sign she hasn’t shown of being close to foaling is waxing up, plus she is a maiden mare so I’m unsure what to expect of her. What do you guys think? Do you have any mares that don’t completely bag up/ wax up before foaling?

Well I have checked her again since posting this and everything is still normal. Back to eating and napping. Trust me… I have thoroughly discussed the “no more visitors!” with hubby lol. She is not colicy acting at all. Passing manure and munching on hay. Next check will be 2 am… Yay for me :) lol

Did I say ” I sent out invitations to the whole family to come share this event!”… No and hubby hasn’t heard the end of it by a long shot. I know how important it is to have a quite environment for a mare getting ready to foal and now he does as well!

Zenny–you look VERY pregnant…and lovely. I’m sure Tasty does too. We love you both so much!
@Yvonne and Maurice–seconding Diana S’s invitation to join Equi Army. We need more boots on the ground. Mainly, it’s letter-writing, petition-signing, posting info., etc.
@Terry Crow–what would we do without you? We don’t want to find out!
Also seconding Barbara Grimaldi’s plea for a voice for the poor carriage horses in NYC or anywhere. One would think they would be well-treated, but evidently such is not the case.
@Dawn Conrad–thanks for the mention fo the Josh Pons books. I have “Merryland” and enjoyed it thoroughly.
@ESPECIALLY HORSES– thank you for sharing your own Baylor moment! We were really jittery all day, thinking he wouldn’t win. When it was announced, we screeched, and the dogs jumped about a foot off the floor! We had to convince them that no services were required, that Mommy and Daddy were just happy. All the nominees got to take a 4-hour limo ride around the city.
@ALL–I am so excited! I’m participating in Mike Smith’s $1-a-day December charity drive, and the charity I nominated was chosen for today. Yippee! It is Habitat for Horses. They do great work, so if you have a PayPal account, it is very easy to do. Actually, I nominated two. The other was Bluebonnet Equine Humane Society, but the FB page only took the first one.
