Good Morning,
Often while I’m out in the paddock relaxing with TASTY, I have a great deal of time to THINK! It suddenly occurred to ME yesterday that ONE YEAR has passed since I was at BARN 55—-stretching my legs and doing my ‘last lap under tack’ with Steve around the training track.
One year…..WOW! It seems like just yesterday!
It is truly amazing how quickly time flies by. I imagine that is why people always say it is so important to enjoy and appreciate each day. I am really trying to subscribe to this philosophy. Each day is so special….and TASTY and I treat them as such.
A mare is ‘in foal’ for approximately 11 calendar months. Look how quickly this time is progressing for ME. I am due at the beginning of March…so just a few more precious months to go! I am eating properly, getting the appropriate amount of exercise each day….and truly enjoying each moment. LANE’S END does monitor my weight carefully….and I am gaining the perfect amount of weight each month now for a MOM-TO-BE.
MY FOAL does like to ‘move about’ quite a bit. As I understand it, you can actually see my tummy ‘wiggle’ when the baby does so. This is TOO CUTE!
Wishing you a wonderful day!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

I was looking at my Hollywood Park pictures of your retirement “send off” a year ago yesterday Zenyatta and I can’t believe it’s been a year! But I, like so many have stated here, am so happy that you and Dottie keep us up to date with all of your news. It has made it a bit easier to let you go! Love you and your wiggly tummy, pretty girl!

Z, sadly I have never seen you in person, but the first time I saw you on TV I thought, “How can a being be so magnificent AND adorable? So powerful AND so sweet? Have an aura that reaches through the screen into our hearts?”
Friends of mine described seeing you in person as ELECTRIFYING. And these are not people who often speak in such superlatives.
To have seen you race must been truly a once in a lifetime experience.
It IS hard to believe a year has gone by. So much has happened, indeed!
Having the chance to read your diary every day and keep up with your life as a soon to be mom has been an absolute JOY! Becoming a part of your community of fans has also been a joy!
Love and hugs to you, Mamma Z and Baby ZB, and to Tasty and Baby T too!

@eastcoastkid, your post tugged at our hearts, too. We were lucky to see her run her last race…an experience we will never forget. She showd her heart and determination that day…big time. There is just such a void in racing without her.
It really doesn’t seem the same. But, we have baby Z/B to look forward to and this diary…which has been such a joy for all of us who hold Z in a special place in our hearts.

@Terry Crow- I am so glad you are back!
@Brenda S- I missed that! I hope they re-air it. From the first time I saw Zenyatta the song Nessun Dorma has played in my mind as she crossed the finish line.
@DJ- Thank for for the beautiful prayer. I am thrilled to see YOU posting again.

Such a wonderful post today with news of your foal wiggling and making him/herself known! The picture is now really beginning to take shape — long legs, luminous eyes and mom-like ears. I know you’ll be an amazing mom.
It is hard to believe that a year has passed since we watched you leave California and move to Kentucky. And yet it seems such a long time since I have felt that special excitement, virtually holding my breath as you entered the starting gate and then took off with Mike aboard…
Again, thank you, Dottie for creating this forum as must-visit site every day for news and shared friendship by all of us who are addicted to Zenyatta. Hope you and John are now fully re-elecrified or will be soon.
Hugs to all!

Zenny, darling, do me a favor and foal out on Feb 29- I have a bet going with several people. I say, being the Queen and having a special birthday of your own, that your baby has to have one too. That being said Feb 29 IS Sadie Hawkins day and Leap day, so your baby HAS to be born then :)

Zenyatta’s final gallop . Posted on Mr. John Shirreff’s Youtube channel. It shows the parade of fans before and after her final gallop. Steve Willard is too cute!!…I just love him!

Zenny, you have brought so much joy and happiness to all of us, and now you are going to find out what real joy and happiness is, having your own child aka foal. Thank you for taking us on this journey with you. I could not love any horse on this planet as much as I do you x0x0x0x0 from Maine

That Aussie horse looks like he has some fine bloodlines. Forli and Relic, Never Bend.
Don’t know how it would match up with Z’s breeding…I have to leave that to more knowledgable persons! But it looks intriguing–at least to me.

Thank you Kari for that You Tube video of Zenny’s last bit of exercise…that is the same day I was there and I posted my video of it on Z’s FB page. John’s helmet cam is so fantastic! Blush, Blush, I saw my disabled daughter and myself on it…too funny!

I just can’t get over how close we are getting to seeing Zenyatta drop her foal. Can you even imagine how many thoroughbred covers that foal will grace? I am sure it will be front page Bloodhorse and Thoroughbred Times.
I vote colt vs filly.

Who says you can’t go home again? There are special people on this site. @JAG, D Stuart, Eveline, Sharon Call, Barbara Wood, Brenda S, Sue Fredrick, Kari Bussell and Rosemary McCauley–Thank you @JAG-Agree on John Henry race. However, wasn’t the Ladies Secret at SA scheduled to be the Zenyatta before it was switched back? @Sue Fredrick-Good to see the Badgers in the Rose Bowl. The team should have been undefeated and playing in the big one. @Rosemary McCauley-great jokes. especially enjoyed the outhouse one. In honor of that joke, I will dust off one of my old ones. You might be a redneck if the main source of your income involves manure.

AWWW thank you Sandy….I have been trying since yesterday to upload my videos Part 1 and Part 2 from Zenny’s Appreciation Day, but FB is not uploading them. Eventually they will. But Ann Maree posted (and Kari) some great video too, much better than mine LOL! And please don’t feel like you don’t belong here…YOU ARE A Z DUMPLING and LOVE Zenny and that’s all it takes! P.S. I also have some older video of her in the paddock, and her other going away send offs at Hollywood Park and Santa Anita – just have to get them onto computer, I am a computer NERD first rate! LOL! And Sandy – never say never, believe in your heart that one day you will see her and you too will no longer be dreaming….hold onto that dream and never let it go. Although it may be awhile because she is a broodmare, but you never know when dreams come true. It did for me, it can for you.

My husband & I were amoung those waiting to welcome you to Kentucky. It was VERY cold, but so worth the wait. Keeneland was very kind to all of us waiting fans. I feel so lucky to have seen you up close that night. I have a picture I’ve named “Electric Zenyatta” b/c someone bumped me just as I snapped and the lights and movement turned into colored lines (hard to explain). I think the pic it totally cool, even if totally unexpected. Thanks to all your team for keeping up the posts.

Oh Zenny, it is hard to believe it’s been a year. I don’t post on here anymore, but still check in most days and think of you and the foal a lot. And that one awful weekend recently, what kept going through my mind was how glad I was that you retired safe and sound. I voted for you in the Bloodhorse poll, and I hope the undying interest encourages people to pursue a book – maybe they’re just waiting to include the baby.
Love you always,

Zensters and Lovers of Horses, I wanted to share with you the response I received today from my local Congressman. This is in regards to our recent exchange around the slaughter of horses – there is hope!
Thank you for contacting me regarding H.R. 2966, the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act. I appreciate hearing from you on this important issue. You may be interested to know that California voters approved a statewide ballot initiative in 1998 to prohibit the commercial sale of horses for human consumption.
As you are well aware, horses in the United States are not raised for food or fiber. Despite this, approximately 55,000 American horses are slaughtered for human consumption in the United States by foreign-owned slaughterhouses every year. Tens of thousands more are exported from the United States for slaughter every year. The foreign-owned horse slaughter industry has exported over three million American horses for human consumption in the last two decades. Because horses in America are not food animals, veterinarians commonly prescribe and treat horses with potent drugs that may reside in the horseflesh and be dangerous when consumed by humans.
In an effort to prevent the slaughter of horses for human consumption, H.R. 2966, the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act, was introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives on September 19, 2011. Specifically, H.R. 2966 would prohibit the transport of horses across state lines and international borders for the purpose of slaughter for human consumption. In addition, the bill would prohibit the sale or transport of horsemeat for human consumption. Currently, H.R. 2966 is pending further consideration before the House Committees on Agriculture and Energy and Commerce. As this bill works its way through the legislative process, you can be assured I will monitor its progress and keep your strong support in mind.
Again, thank you for contacting me. I hope you will remain in touch in the future on other issues of importance to you.
Sincerely,
GARY G. MILLER
