Good Morning,
Often while I’m out in the paddock relaxing with TASTY, I have a great deal of time to THINK! It suddenly occurred to ME yesterday that ONE YEAR has passed since I was at BARN 55—-stretching my legs and doing my ‘last lap under tack’ with Steve around the training track.
One year…..WOW! It seems like just yesterday!
It is truly amazing how quickly time flies by. I imagine that is why people always say it is so important to enjoy and appreciate each day. I am really trying to subscribe to this philosophy. Each day is so special….and TASTY and I treat them as such.
A mare is ‘in foal’ for approximately 11 calendar months. Look how quickly this time is progressing for ME. I am due at the beginning of March…so just a few more precious months to go! I am eating properly, getting the appropriate amount of exercise each day….and truly enjoying each moment. LANE’S END does monitor my weight carefully….and I am gaining the perfect amount of weight each month now for a MOM-TO-BE.
MY FOAL does like to ‘move about’ quite a bit. As I understand it, you can actually see my tummy ‘wiggle’ when the baby does so. This is TOO CUTE!
Wishing you a wonderful day!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

@Terry Crow: Ah – the Wanderer returns at long last! We are all very glad about that, but expect a full report and a slide show at our next Z Dumpling gathering! And yes, it will be graded. :-)
Of course now I need to conjure up some new redneck jokes for the occasion. Drat.

On the topic if memories…
I saved a copy of one of my two post cards that I submitted for the drawing to win a Zenyatta statue by Nina Kaiser, #19. I’d like to share it today. I’d love it if the other Z Dumplings posted what they submitted!

I never had the wiggles myself but, loved it when my mare had them. It was such a beautiful thing to watch and feel. I even enjoyed listening. You can put your ear on the belly, if you don’t have a stethescope, and hear beautiful sounds. I so miss those days but, love hearing all your developments Zenyatta. Again thanks for your daily diary. We love you Queen Z.

Hi Z,
I will always remember that a year ago today (my birthday!) you came back to KY to live at Lane’s End. I saw you at the Breeder’s Cup, but I am hoping and praying that one day I will be able to see you again! Have you seen the poll they are taking on the Bloodhorse about voting for your favorite horse racing moment of 2011….well guess what…your winning the HOY is at the top of the list with 60% of the vote!!! As it should be….
What a great moment it was!

Hello Sweet “Z” and little “z”! Some Z Friends asked for a special prayer, and since World Day of the sick is coming up Feb 11, I hoped it might be comforting to offer the special Christian prayer to them now.
For all those in need, esp. Krystal

O Lord, who suffered and died for us.
You understand my pain. In my illness teach me to withstand suffering as You did; to bear it in union with You; to offer it with You to atone and to bring Your grace to those in need. Calm my fears; increase my trust. May I gladly accept Your holy will and become more like You through every trial. If it be Your will, restore me to health so that I may work for Your honor and glory and the salvation of souls. Mary, help of the sick, Pray for me.

Hey everybody, since we are talking about Z’s wiggling baby, I thought it would be a good time to repost this fetal development timeline:
http://www.eagleridge-twh.com/fetus1.htm
She is 254 days since being bred. Baby Bump is probably around 50 pounds by now, and his/her coat is starting to grow in.

I don’t know why I weep when I read this diary…I admit that I do almost every day. I think Dottie’s dedication to all of us is part of it as well as the sheer joy of knowing so many people get so much love and support here. Zenyatta has become a catylst for many things; rescue, recuperation, hope and friendship. Today, is a good day to remember her past immense performances on the track and her on-going impact on the sport itself with a foal on the way and her little sis with John readying to make her own unique mark. How lucky we all are to have seen such perfection. Driving to work this AM, I was listening to a CD of Pavarotti singing Nessun Dorma and it made me think of Zenyatta; every creature, human or otherwise, is provided with a unique gift; a glorious voice, the talent and speed of thoroughbred, the kindness needed for a friend in need. All are the same; all bring joy to others and that gift is incalculable. Thank you Dottie for your gift of insight into the heart of the people who do truly love Zenyatta. You have made 2011 easier for many people who otherwise would have struggled in silence and lonliness.

Zenny, I would give anything to see that gorgeous tummy wiggle. I think the little one is practicing her dance steps already and letting you know that the time is getting near. Great news that you are “on schedule” with your weight gain and that you and Tasty are enjoying pregnancy together. I can’t think of any other baby that has had so many “aunties and uncles” waiting for the big day.
@ Terry C – Welcome home. Your family missed you so we’re glad you’re back.
Sue Fredrick - Wisconsin
Zenny how well I remember those “tummy roles”, gee sometimes it woke me up in the middle of the night and my whole stomach shifted and my husband said it was acutally lopsided! I wonder what you think when that happens. Can’t wait for that little “dancer” to be born, remember, I gave you three choices 3/9,3/10, or 3/24.
@TERRY CROW happy to see you back, missed your crazy sense of humor.
@ALLIE love your term “Zenny Boogie”, too cute.
@JAG I just loved what you wrote on your post card…..worthy of a statue.
@MARLENE and JEANNE congrats to you and all others who worked to save the slaughter horses….God has a special place in heaven for people like you.
Luv you Z and kisses on your nose
Kathleen
One of my favorite things when I bred horses was to watch the babies ‘run around’ inside their mommy’s tummy. Pretty soon they’ll be able to see those kicks from a ‘mile’ away. Stay well. I anxiously await the arrival of baby Zen

@Rednecks. You might be a redneck if: on average, one out of every 30 words you use can be found in the dictionary. You might be a redneck if any of your neighbors spent Halloween night in a hole because you moved their outhouse four feet back.
Kari Bussell/sending prayers & love from Tn.
My Queen,
The world anxiously awaits the arrival of baby Z/B…bells will be ringing, children will be singing, people will stand and cheer and cry tears of joy when he/she arrives. You continue to give us nothing but JOY!! I will love you for eternity..

Wish I could see you in person, Z! I guess pics will have to do! I’ve asked several times if the public will ever get to see you like we were able to see Rachel Alexandra, but haven’t heard anything yet! Can you fill us in? I’m just right here in Lexington.
Be well, my dear!

Oh my yes, it has been one yr since you left Barn55 at Hollywood Park and went to Lane’s End in Kentucky. Boy, time sure does fly but sure you are happy and doing so well, and that is all hat matters. So excited for when you have your baby in March, going to be one super event for sure. I imagine you have many, many people awaiting the arrival of your baby. It is absolutely wonderful that all is going so well for you, you are so adored and loved by everyone Zenyatta! You have brought warm sunshine and happiness to so many people, me being one of them. I am so ever grateful and thankful for you. Sending you my Love & Blessings!

@Karen Gogue
Your post on #390 brought me to tears. I’m sure I can’t even imagine how difficult it was for you to watch Zenyatta leave for the last time. If it is of even a little comfort, I want to say again (in case you didn’t see it back on #389) how very much I appreciated the video of that “last day” you posted on her Facebook page. I “met” Zenyatta on 60 minutes so sometimes I feel like I don’t belong here with all of you folks who followed her for an entire racing career. However, I fell in love and have followed her and learned so much from all of you ever since. Your video made me feel as though I was RIGHT THERE with you (and her!).
When I heard that she was relocating to Kentucky, I was SO excited because that is actually only a short day’s drive from where I live. The excitement was short-lived once I realized that brood mares (especially famous ones) don’t entertain company. So any chance I have to “see” her is a real plus, and your video certainly fit into that category. Even if she gives up her brood mare career at some point, it doesn’t seem as though Lane’s End has the facilities for mass visitations so my chances to see her “in person” seem minimal at best. However, people have been suggesting that eventually she may move back to California to be closer to the Mosses so maybe you WILL see her again. Thanks for all that you contribute to this site.

The cam is malfunctioning and is showing Pikeville City instead of the KHP. No, Cigar hasn’t been moved to downtown LOL

@Terry Crow. So-o-o-o-o glad to see you back. You should have come to Occupy Atlanta. I would have taken you in in a minute. Atlanta really needs your type of sense of humor. Very little of that in this city right now.

Memories!!! Zenyatta’s First Diary Post – November 9, 2010 – 176 Responses

Wow…here we are! This is the beginning of a very BIG week! It is getting close now.
This morning, I’m finishing up my CA preparations for the Breeders’ Cup Classic. John will have me jog a mile on the training track. That will be 2 trips around. Steve will be with me. The training track is great…because it is a dirt surface. I’ve spent a great deal of time on this track during the last few years. When I am on the training track, it means I’m doing my exercise and I’m concentrating on my work….but it is FUN! John calls it a PLAY DAY for me! I love it!
Oh my, I just looked outside the barn. There are lots and lots of fans to see me today. OH….I think there is a great deal of media as well…so many BIG cameras. I better look too cute! Fortunately for me, I’m very fit and my coat is glowing….so I hope to look good in the pictures.
After I train, John will have me graze for about an hour. I love this time. It is very relaxing and special to me. Then I’ll have a bit of brunch (bigger lunch comes later) and Michelle is going to give me a wonderful massage.
John and Mario will be here with me all afternoon….getting me ready for the trip! The barn will be packing my travel trunks today with all of the necessary things I’ll need. I have been wearing my ‘light-weight cooler’ lately…but I hear it is a bit chilly in KY…so I’m sure they will pack some heavier blankets and coolers for me to wear there. Breeders’ Cup even made me a special cooler…and it fits great! I guess because I’m a bit ‘taller etc.’ than most mares….I’m not an off-the-rack kinda’ girl! This one was made just for me!
Later in the day, I’ll relax, graze again…and rest some more!
Then….very early tomorrow morning…right after midnight, John will be here to load me on the van to go to the airport. Ranch Runners will pick me up at 2 ish in the morning and then off to the plane. I travel on TEX SUTTON’S plane. It is customized just for horses. Mario will get to fly with me.
John and Dottie will leave right after this along with the Moss’ so they can meet me in KY when I land. Mike left last night to go to the ESPN offices to do several interviews.
Steve is leaving this afternoon for KY. He will hook up with Frank and Frankie who are already there with Harmonious. Harmonious is my good friend and I can’t wait to see her again. She won a huge race a few weeks ago at Keeneland and I do want to congratulate her.
Later today, the guys in KY will get everything ready for me at the Churchill Downs barn….my stall will be bedded down…nice and comfy….and my food and water will be ordered and all details organized. Everything will be ‘just like home for me when I arrive.
IT IS GETTING EXCITING!
Have a fun day everyone. I’ll touch base with you again, once I’m in KY!
Hugs to all~

Dearest Z.–thank you so much for the great health update. We are all buoyed up by the fact that everything is perfectly normal. Wow–tummy wigggles! I never thought about that with a horse before. My only child is adopted, so who knew? Interesting.
@Yvonne and Maurice–you are right. This weather is awful
@Especially Horses–too cute about GWTW. Go, RG3, for Heisman!
@Terry Crow–WELCOME BACK. It’s just not the same without you. I’m still in stitches about the asphalt joke. Would have been nice to have you as a Texas Dumpling, but we’ll take you as a “transfer” when you’re visiting.
@DJ–thank you so much for the prayer and for including Krystal. Wish we could get an update.
@Lou Ann Cingel–please keep us updated on your condition.
@Kari Bussell–thanks for the heads up on CNN story.
@Kathleen Kimber–if you’re reading this, please tell Charlotte F. to check out http://www.horseandman.com today. It’s all about history. Haven’t had time to read it yet, but I knew you 2 would be interested.
