Good Morning,
I hope all of you had a relaxing and pleasant weekend. My days have been absolutely fabulous. On Saturday, I had some SURPRISE visitors stop by and visit ME! My dear owners were able to spend the entire afternoon with ME. It was so much fun. The weather here has been so comfortable…surprisingly warm for early December! We will get some photos for you…’of our Saturday visit’… soon.
Racing has been moving right along! It is a ‘new era’ at Gulfstream Park as it opened on December 3rd instead of their normal starting date a month later. This is a new philosophy for this racetrack and we are wishing them well! Hollywood Park, Aqueduct, The Fairgrounds and several other venues offered very competitive racing as well. Between racing and getting ready for the holidays, we are all very, very busy!
As for Santa Anita and the wind damage, things are improving but as of this morning, several surrounding areas STILL do not have power. As of late last night, the power at MY JOHN and Dottie’s house was not yet restored. All of the local restaurants and businesses have been through some rough times. Hopefully things will get ‘back into a normal routine’ soon.
The webpage…ARCADIA’S BEST….will give you the current information on all of this. Per their sources, at one point the winds were close to 100 miles per hour. This site presents a 4 minute tour of the LOS ANGELES COUNTY ARBORETUM and their damage resulting from the storm. This area is directly across the street from Santa Anita….thus, we are extremely fortunate no people or horses were hurt. MY JOHN and DOTTIE live in the area directly behind the Arboretum…so this gives you an idea of how intense this wind storm actually was at their house.
Without power in Arcadia, they have spent time in Carlsbad with family during the last few days. MY JOHN is TOO CUTE and commutes to Hollywood Park etc. from Carlsbad during this time for work and to be with his horses. Last night, they went to a local restaurant in the Del Mar area, and a lovely woman was asking them about ME! (This is so sweet!) They had a lovely visit and Dottie updated her on how I’m doing. She also asked when my PLUSHIE was coming out! (Such a sweet fan!) Dottie told her in a few weeks…but to be sure and check on the web-site and visit the ZENYATTA SHOP often as new things are coming out all the time. How adorable is this! PEOPLE ASKING ABOUT ME!
Warm wishes from ME to YOU…my DEAR FANS!
With love,
Hugs to ALL~

The power otages are significant. We had no PGE power for 6 days here in the Santa Cruz mountains. Just got it back yesterday. Fortunately, our water storage is high on the hill overlooking the farm and so we have gravity feed and lots of water available for the horses. But so glad we don’t have to listen to those noisy generators for awhile! Hope the Shirreffs get their power back ASAP and life returns to normal.

@Sign. In order to compete in certain international jumping events, a horse must be registered with the international association by his or her country which coincides with the owner. Coriana van Klapscheut was originally from Belgium, but was purchased by an American. She was then registered as American. She is now owned jointly by an American family and Eric Lamaze. I guess that they have decided that she will be Canadian and compete with the Canadian team.

@sue–lol! Too cute! I’d have her in the house too!
@Linda from Chicago–I second your motion: MARLENE FOR PRESIDENT.
To all who were at Zenny’s goodbye in person: I can only imagine what you must have felt. I was dying halfway across the country. BUT if all those folks who were there knew what a bangup time we’re having here on this diary, and how we’ve made lemonade from lemons, we’d be swamped. I amo SO thankful every day for it.

@Kendra, it would not surprise me if Zenyatta returned to California eventually, but I think it will be when she is ready to be pensioned from broodmare duty. She will have way more than 3 foals. Her genes are too valuable to waste. Besides, she is going to love being a mom.

Hi Zenyatta. I am so happy Ann and Jerry were there visiting you – you and Tasty must have been thrilled. Can’t wait to see the photos. So sorry to hear John and Dottie still have no power. It was such a terrible storm. Thank God no horses/humans were injured at Santa Anita Park. We were at the Claiming Crown in New Orleans. Such a beautiful city. But going home on Sunday, we encountered terrible rain storms throughout Texas. It has gotten very cold here – 30 degrees – whoa, do not like the cold. Can’t wait to get the plushie of you! Love you, stay compy, eat well for two and have loads of fun with Tasty and all of your friends. Love you, Angel.

@Diana S from Dianna S: This year I had my choice of the beach or Flagstaff for the week after Christmas. Hubby and I selected the beach this time, but we’ve done Flag several times when the snow has been just tremendous. My rescue doggie Freedom for Archibald (aka Archie, rescued 10 years ago on the 4th of July) absolutely loves the snow; he’s a white Korean Jindo and thrives in cold climate. One year Archie and I went hiking in the snow and ponderosa pines and we were gone for hours. When I returned home I said to my husband “we were gone longer than I expected, were you concerned?” He answered yes and that he had planned to go looking for us as soon as the movie he was watching was over. I turned to see what he was watching and it was Gone with the Wind. “Are you kidding? GWTW is so long it even has an intermission built into it; and from what I can see you haven’t even gotten to the Burning of Atlanta yet!” LOL. Every so often I gently remind him how he chose Scarlett over me.

PS to my Dec 5th comment about Zenny’s HP celebration. I’ve always wondered it the two women I met at about 8:30 AM that morning as we waited for the gates to open to HP would be part of this diary??? anyone?? it was so sweet to share the day with them.

Hope to see new pictures of you soon! I bet the weather is really starting to get cold there. It was down to 25* this morning here in the high desert of southern California.

Have a wonderful day Zenyatta and baby “Z”! xoxo

So glad that you are doing well Zenyatta, and thank goodness you weren’t in the nasty winds and weather there in California. So sorry to hear that John & Dottie are still without power, imagine that is extremely inconvenient and difficult to say the least. Wishing them the best and hope their lives get back to normal soon. Just so glad that they are alright and didn’t get hurt during the bad weather.
So nice too that your onwers came and visited you last weekend-I can only imagine how nice it was for all of you, you are so close and love each other tremendously-you all are such a large part of each others life.
Have been enjoying the racing but it just isn’t the same without you.
Love you more and more each day Zenyatta! Take care-Love & Blessings!

Oh dear, such damage in an area that is usually a paradise. Hopefully no lives were lost, human or animal.

Zenyatta, it sounds like John and Dottie had a plan for dealing with their power outage in Arcadia, California. Going to a community that had power. I’m really happy that no one or no horse was harmed in all the weather and power outages out there. I’ll bet you guys out there are very busy with Christmas coming and all the horse racing going on. Congratulations to Gulfstream opening one month earlier than they usually do. It means a lot to a lot of people.
