NEWS ALERT! HEAVY WINDS HIT THE ARCADIA AREA LAST NIGHT! MY JOHN WILL TRY AND GET SOME PHOTOS FOR YOU SOON!
Hello Everyone,
So, so sorry to be posting you this late in the day. MY JOHN and DOTTIE (Sophie too) live in Arcadia, California…right by Santa Anita. Last night, that area had a HUGE wind storm. The winds were the hardest and traveling the fastest any of them can remember. The power is completely out in ALL of Arcadia, the phone / internet lines are not working, and trees are down everywhere. Schools are closed, businesses are also closed…and people are traveling about very carefully due to all of the trees and power lines that are down and blocking the roads.
On Huntington Drive, right by the racetrack, there are cars covered with fallen trees. None of the street signals anywhere in town are working. As for Dottie and MY JOHN, 2 large trees from their neighbors yard fell…and are now in their yard. Thus, the fence is destroyed in 2 places as well. Patio furniture moved around the yard and 2 chairs went into the pool from one of the decks. It is truly amazing to see how these winds could literally MOVE this heavy furniture and force all of these trees to fall.
Dottie went over to Santa Anita late this morning and some of the huge trees by the one escalator are completely down. Smaller trees in the plant are also on the ground. It seems like the backside held up fairly well. At this time, 2:15 CA TIME in the afternoon, all reports on the horses are great. They came through it all like CHAMPS! So, there is much to be very, very thankful for!
From all reports, there is to be more of these high winds later today and tomorrow morning. By noon Friday, the intensity in them is to be rather small….much more like a normal breeze that would happen now and then.
Let’s hope our weather reports are accurate and everyone continues to be SAFE throughout this windstorm.
We will keep you posted. Here’s hoping the power, telephone, and internet services are restored as soon as possible to the ARCADIA AREA.
MY, MY…something ‘FUN” is always happening.
With Love,
Hugs to All~
Z

RIP CLOUD MAN!
I love you!

Thank-you for the report despite your Dottie’s and John’s wind damage. How kind of Dottie to be concerned about posting despite her own problems. We’ll miss seeing some of those big trees at Santa Anita, but we’re glad everyone is safe–people and horses. Kari Bussell: Thanks for the link to Tinker. He’s adorable!

Good Morning, Zenyatta, Tasty and Cigar. C’mon out and play, Cigar. We’re watching for you this morn.

Dearest Z, Good morning! Computer problems kept me from wishing you a good night last night.
@To all who commented on my poem for Barbara Wood—THANK YOU so much!
@Sally B (WI)—Wow, that was some typing task you took on there! Thanks for sharing this great info about Chris Evert and Blind luck with us! And certainly I will gladly offer a prayer that God will be with your twin sister’s daughter Jenny as she gives birth. Blessings and best wishes to Jenny and baby.
@Marty R (CO)—Thank you for being so sweet as to worry about the spelling of my last name, but please don’t give it a second thought—it’s an unusual name, and I respond to ANYTHING (like for doggies and other animals, for me it’s the TONE that matters! LOL). You can imagine the trouble the poor grocery store clerks have trying to guess how to pronounce it! @Linda in NJ—I hope that long commute (and work day) doesn’t turn out to be too stressful on Monday. Looking forward to seeing you again in So Cal whenever you can make it.
@Signofthetimes—Hope it works out for you to be at SA for E’s debut. I pray that will be a day of joy for all of E’s connections and fans.

@Marshall (older girl in NC)–thank you so much!
@stephanie (s in San Diego)–thank you also! What a lovely group of friends here on this site. We couldn’t have hand-picked better.
@Kari Bussell– thank you so much for the kind words and good wishes. When I first met you on YouTube, I thought you must be a rock star! Also our Stephanie Lambert. I still watch those videos over and over.
Also, thank you for the good wishes for our Lady Bears. Geno and UConn come to town the night of the 18th–think it will be on tv. Last year they beat us by 1 point in their house. I know you won’t mind if we beat them in ours this time–LOL! Keeping hooves crossed that our quarterback could possibly win the Heisman. So much going on this time of year!

Good Morning Zenny, Have you heard from Dottie?? I’m hoping that the winds have died down and that the clean up can begin, some of the photos are quite scarey.
Vic is a very happy camper today, she cantered from standing last night and Bella only tried to nip her a couple of times. I stayed out of range, she nipped some of my hair last week. It was a good lesson so she still got peppermints in spite of the nipping.
@ Barbara W – Belated Happy Birthday and enjoy your lunch.
@ Trina – Those masterpieces keep coming, Congratulations.
@ All S. Cal Dumplings – Stay safe, hooves are crossed for a quick restoration of power and no more wind.

DOTTIE & JOHN: I’m certain the storm has left both of you with lots to do, but just wanted you to know that I’m thinking of you and sending you both big, supportive hugs!
ZENNY, BABY Z-B & TASTY: You must be feeling the touch of winter in the air. It seems like only yesterday that we were watching you, Zenny, as you cavorted for the very first time off your lead in the snow. This remains one of my ABSOLUTE FAVOURITE videos of you, big girl. Love, hugs and big girl kisses to you, baby bump & TT.
@ Sally B: I’m sending you good thoughts and new baby blessings for your niece and her baby-to-be. Try not to worry. I’m certain the mid-wife will make all of the right decisions for both of your precious ones!
@ Judy Berube: Miss you and sending along loving thoughts.
@ Kari: Sending you love & hugs, girl.
@ ZENSTERS: I’m still SO THRILLED that we all supported Jeanne & Marlene and have rescued LITTLE CLOUD! What a GREAT Christmas gift to the Shirreffs, Mosses & Barn 55 — a LIVING testament to CLOUD MAN. You are all the BEST! Here in Montreal, I’ve been so busy acclimatizing my new rescue dog, the sweet Daisy “Doodlebug” as I call her, that I haven’t even mailed out my Christmas cards!!!!! Oh, well. That will be this week’s project for sure. Special thanks to ELIZABETH from NEW MEXICO for her lovely compliment. And don’t forget to buzz off to THE VAULT to read my latest on BLACK CAVIAR & to enjoy the exquisite photos of BRONWEN HEALY, “Australia’s Barbara Livingston”. I’ve also included Bronwen’s blog address if you’d like to explore her photos & great reads at the beginning of the article on Black Caviar — just copy the address & paste into your driver at the top of your computer page! Later this weekend or Monday, time permitting, I’ll post a shot of Daisy in the About Me section of THE VAULT for signofthetimes & others who might want to see her “in person”! LOVE TO ALL!

@Brenda S–thank you so much! Off to lunch in a little while.
@Abigail from Montreal–I confess to dreading my birthday somewhat if we hadn’t been able to save those horses with Marlene. Anxiously awaiting the report. Thank you for the lovely blogs. Can’t tell you how many I’ve printed out to put in my notebook.

@Sally B in WI, best wishes to your sister. Hoping for an uneventful delivery and healthy baby.

LOL if pedigree were all it took, my (former) boy would have won the Derby. He is definitely a blue blood on paper, being descended from both Secretariat and Man O’War, along with Mr. Prospector, Ribot, Deputy Minister, and other luminaries, and from mares such as Flower Bowl, Chris Evert, and Somethingroyal. Both his parents are graded stakes winners. Unfortunately he did not inherit their talent. He has yet to break his maiden, although he has placed several times. He runs at Charlestown with its slot-supported purses, so he’s earned a few bucks. He had some repiratory issues that have been partially corrected by surgery.

Zenny, Good Afternoon to you and your BF, TT! I hope you are having a grand time today just doing whatever suits you. I rewatched some of your races yesterday and I am still in awe of how you accomplished so much. You always knew the crowd was there to see your magnificient self and you never disappointed us. Personality plus is what you have. Your John, Mario, Steve, Frank, Dawn and all who touched you certainly knew how to bring out the best in you.
I hope your Dottie is doing well as are the Mosses. Everyone has so much to be thankful for this year.
@Kari, I always smile when I see a post from you. You are also amazing…always looking forward.

I have gone through a tornado and seen the damage first hand. Sounds like the same kind of devastation with these Santa Anna winds. Hope all is well with our friends.

Some late replies, with apologies:
@Linda in NJ: :) I hope to meet you at BC 2012, if not before.
@Deirene in Carlsbad: Thank you for your kind words. I am in agreement with you
@Deborah Richman from S. Cal: I am glad that you were not hit as severely as we. Thank you for your good thoughts, and yes! The situation is definitely improving!

Zenny – Just got my Jaime Corum Queen’s Dance poster back from the frame shop – The people at the frame store couldn’t get over your beautiful portrait. Just Awesome as usual. For those Cigar fans – there is a really cute picture of Cigar at 10 days old in the thoroughbred pedigree under his dam’s name Solar Slew -he has the look of eagles.

@Laura J–did you by any chance ever post under another name on BH blogs? You’re not the owner of Runflatout, are you?
@Karen Gogue–thank you for those pictures. I had no idea until your pictures showed us the devastation. It is a miracle no horses or people were killed, much less injured.
As to the Forbes article, that is my question exactly.

I saw the damage done by these horrendous winds!! OMGosh I had no idea they were so bad. I hope all of you in the area that was hit are o.k. and your property came through without too much damage. To all of you who are suffering personal loss and illness, my thoughts and prayers are with you. This is a good site to come to because of all the support and the inspiration of The Queen, who never gave up.

@ Barbara Wood, happy birthday.
@ Judy B, we miss you.
@ DJ, I miss your beautiful prayers.

@Karen Gogue: My question too.

@ Karen Gogue- Thank you for sharing the pictures of the wind damage at Santa Anita. It’s absolutely remarkable that there were no injuries.

Photo-blog Day on the Horse and Man blog! There is a remarkable, heart-warming photo essay of four exhausted juvenile Sitka black-tail deer who in the icy waters off Alaska swam directly TOWARD a charter boat, clearly ASKING FOR –and RECEIVING—much needed help. The rescue gentlemen summed this experience up as “a DEFINING MOMENT IN LIFE.” High hoof and hoof-ray! http://horseandman.com/
@Laura J— I still follow Better Step Aside (formerly your boy in a partnership) through my Equibase Virtual Stable. As I remember, he did very well in a recent race. Hoof-ray, Better Step Aside!

Beautiful Queen Zenyatta!
So glad to hear everyone is O.K.!
@ Margaret and Joan and others who commented on standing up against horse slaughter, thank you! We must all be bold and couragious and use the voices that we have to stand up for the innocent horses that have no voice and will be brutally killed without intervetion.
Please, Queen Zenyatta and Dottie, use your voices of power and influence to stand up against the slaughter of race horses.
Love and hugs and prayers!

@Barbara Wood: Happy Birthday! For your birthday I’d like to share one of my favorite bible verses: And the saints which are in heaven followed Him (Jesus) upon white horses clothed in fine linen, white and pure. Rev:19:14 (Oh what a day that will be!) Happy happy birthday! Dianna S.

FOR ALL THOSE HERE WHO HAVE BEEN WORRIED ABOUT MARLENE DODGE AND HER LATEST RESCUE…she was not sending emails or phoning and I asked Jeanie to please alert the authorities and make sure she is safe…just got this message from Jeanie:
Just heard from her. You were right. She had mechanical problems this morning. Has to stash the horses at a nearby ranch for safekeeping. They will get picked up Monday by someone else and brought to valley view. I am meeting her for lunch in an hour. She got the 3 pregnant mares and the little T-news cross. can u let everyone know? I have to get ready and scoot to meet her! Tnx, J

There is also a totally upbeat update on the orphan foal Autumn, who is now totally on the road to recovery. The people who donated through Horse and Man to fund her care CONTRIBUTED A WHOPPING $5630, which covered 70% of her vet fees and allowed the rescue group Hope for Horses to get her the best of care. HOOF-RAY to ALL who helped darling little Autumn overcome a decked stacked against her! http://horseandman.com/
