NEWS ALERT! HEAVY WINDS HIT THE ARCADIA AREA LAST NIGHT! MY JOHN WILL TRY AND GET SOME PHOTOS FOR YOU SOON!
Hello Everyone,
So, so sorry to be posting you this late in the day. MY JOHN and DOTTIE (Sophie too) live in Arcadia, California…right by Santa Anita. Last night, that area had a HUGE wind storm. The winds were the hardest and traveling the fastest any of them can remember. The power is completely out in ALL of Arcadia, the phone / internet lines are not working, and trees are down everywhere. Schools are closed, businesses are also closed…and people are traveling about very carefully due to all of the trees and power lines that are down and blocking the roads.
On Huntington Drive, right by the racetrack, there are cars covered with fallen trees. None of the street signals anywhere in town are working. As for Dottie and MY JOHN, 2 large trees from their neighbors yard fell…and are now in their yard. Thus, the fence is destroyed in 2 places as well. Patio furniture moved around the yard and 2 chairs went into the pool from one of the decks. It is truly amazing to see how these winds could literally MOVE this heavy furniture and force all of these trees to fall.
Dottie went over to Santa Anita late this morning and some of the huge trees by the one escalator are completely down. Smaller trees in the plant are also on the ground. It seems like the backside held up fairly well. At this time, 2:15 CA TIME in the afternoon, all reports on the horses are great. They came through it all like CHAMPS! So, there is much to be very, very thankful for!
From all reports, there is to be more of these high winds later today and tomorrow morning. By noon Friday, the intensity in them is to be rather small….much more like a normal breeze that would happen now and then.
Let’s hope our weather reports are accurate and everyone continues to be SAFE throughout this windstorm.
We will keep you posted. Here’s hoping the power, telephone, and internet services are restored as soon as possible to the ARCADIA AREA.
MY, MY…something ‘FUN” is always happening.
With Love,
Hugs to All~
Z

C’mon folks you need to vote on the Bloodhorse website. Just received an email that there will be an entire publication dedicated to the Horse that wins the most intriguing horse of 2011, the Person that is the most intriguing of 2011 and the most memorable moment in 2011. I voted Zenyatta, Shirreffs and the naming of Zenyatta as Horse of the Year. I won’t be able to stand it if Zenyatta does not win. PLEASE VOTE!!!!!!!

@Sally B., line breeding refers to the practice of breeding animals that share common ancestors, especially within the first few generations. Breeding of very close relatives is sometimes called inbreeding. The idea is to reinforce positive traits in the offspring. Blind Luck is actually not as linebred as many horses. She is bred 4S X 5D to Raise a Native (that is, he appears in the 4th generation–great-great grandparent–on her sire’s side and in the 5th on her dam’s side) and 5S X 5S to Nijinsky II. Chris Evert appears in her 5th generation on her sire’s side and in the 6th on her dam’s side. As the amount of genetic material contributed by each ancestor diminishes the further back one goes, Chris Evert at this point is not a big contributor to her genetic makeup.
–
At one time I owned part of a horse that was descended from Chris Evert’s grandson Chief’s Crown through Six Crowns, Chris Evert’s daughter by Secretariat.

@The Kennedys in San Diego: That would be way, way, way too cool!!! When the time comes, I sure hope John can give us advance notice so we can get our airline tickets. Tickets are so expense when they’re purchased at the least minute.

@ Sally B- I fully enjoyed the information you shared from the flyer. I think I got started being interested in Thoroughbred horse racing too late to really understand pedigrees and which lines go best together. It is interesting, though, to pick up what I can.
@ Trina Nagele- I’m sorry I misspelled your last name in my previous posting. I do apologize.
@ signofthetimes-Thank you for your well put statement. I fully respect everyones’ right to their opinions, causes, feelings and callings, but feel they need to be discussed elsewhere. This site was created for a much different purpose from which we have all benefitted on many levels. Please, lets keep it free of politics.

@signofthetimes: Oh, you know the stands will be full. When I saw Ebby back in July, I think I remember them saying she would probably run in the spring of 2012. Saving my pennies to come out for the event. LoL!

@LauraJ in Cincinati: Thank you, I get the idea, but it is rather confusing. I love horses but never had any myself or bred any. That was a pretty special horse you owned part of!

@ all; It is me again. I don’t believe I have ever spoke so much here before. I too am asking for a prayer. My twin sister’s daughter Jenny is having a baby. She is once again having a home delivery with an experienced mid wife. The last time she had a baby there were complications in that the baby needed to be turned on it’s belly head down. During the process of birth Jenny began to hemmorage; lost a lot.Luckily both survived. My sister just called me, she is so so nervous for her daughter & baby. The mid-wife says she believes with these contractions it will be this later evening or early a.m. Jenny is now 40 yrs. old! I have turned to all of you to perhaps remind God to be with her so all will turn out well with a prayer. I’m getting nervous too. Thanks from the bottom of my heart.

Yes, please I echo Linda’s request. Please keep us posted on the date so plane reservations can be made. It is so wonderful to have the CA Dumplings/fans so close to Barn 55 and giving us all that first hand information. Really look forward to meeting everyone.

SIGNOFTHETIMES: I appreciate your referral and hope you noticed that in my 3 recent messages I signed off by thanking Dottie for the opportunity to share critical news here. I am always mindful of that privilege. Major issues demand major action, and we believe we have a whopper on our hands that concerns all horse lovers/protectors in America. So I thank you again and I especially thank everyone here who supported our plea and did not make us feel unwelcome. Our mission is important to us and we think 94,000 other horse advocates might wish to take an interest in helping all horse advocates overturn some pretty rotten legislation. Thank you all, and thank you again, Dottie, for realizing that we are fighting for a just cause.
Barbara Wood (Texas)
@Linda in NJ–ao glad to hear that hip is coming along well.
@Deborah Richman–thank you so much!
@Sandy (Northeast Ohio)–I do hope you can get some answers. I wouldn’t say a replacement is as good as the one God gave me originally, but the new one is serviceable.
@Sally B–praying for Jenny and baby right now. Please let us know as soon as you can.
@Elizabeth in New Mexico–thank you.
@Kimberly Potter–once again, thank you,friend.
@Trina–you are a jewel of a friend. Many thanks!
@All who wished me a happy birthday–it means so much to me because we are such a small family–one hubby and one daughter. I feel as if I have expanded my family here, and I’ll bet a lot of others feel the same way. You have all made me feel like “Queen for a Day” today. At 66, I can remember that show. The younger ones are saying, “Huh?”
@DJ–miss you–I know you would be praying for Krystal and Jenny too.
@Judy Berube–dear friend, we ALL miss you.
Well, nighty-night, sweet Z. So glad you are untroubled by windstorms this week. Keep Baby Z. safe for all of us. Love you always.

@Sharon in Seattle- the Kentucky Horse Park is one of the most wonderful places you could ever visit. I saw Cigar Sept 5th(Labor Day-this year)….during a thrilling unexpected surprise trip to Kentucky where many of my relatives and loved ones live….On that day I got too exhausted by mid afternoon to watch the “shows” ….I did get to visit with all of them though…I HAD to see the great Cigar one more time…I am very lucky to live so close and to have been there so many times…You have never left my thoughts and prayers..
@Stephanie(s in San Diego)- I am glad you enjoyed Tinker and thank you for what you said…
@Sally B- Prayers for you and Jenny …and almost new wee one..
