NEWS ALERT! HEAVY WINDS HIT THE ARCADIA AREA LAST NIGHT! MY JOHN WILL TRY AND GET SOME PHOTOS FOR YOU SOON!
Hello Everyone,
So, so sorry to be posting you this late in the day. MY JOHN and DOTTIE (Sophie too) live in Arcadia, California…right by Santa Anita. Last night, that area had a HUGE wind storm. The winds were the hardest and traveling the fastest any of them can remember. The power is completely out in ALL of Arcadia, the phone / internet lines are not working, and trees are down everywhere. Schools are closed, businesses are also closed…and people are traveling about very carefully due to all of the trees and power lines that are down and blocking the roads.
On Huntington Drive, right by the racetrack, there are cars covered with fallen trees. None of the street signals anywhere in town are working. As for Dottie and MY JOHN, 2 large trees from their neighbors yard fell…and are now in their yard. Thus, the fence is destroyed in 2 places as well. Patio furniture moved around the yard and 2 chairs went into the pool from one of the decks. It is truly amazing to see how these winds could literally MOVE this heavy furniture and force all of these trees to fall.
Dottie went over to Santa Anita late this morning and some of the huge trees by the one escalator are completely down. Smaller trees in the plant are also on the ground. It seems like the backside held up fairly well. At this time, 2:15 CA TIME in the afternoon, all reports on the horses are great. They came through it all like CHAMPS! So, there is much to be very, very thankful for!
From all reports, there is to be more of these high winds later today and tomorrow morning. By noon Friday, the intensity in them is to be rather small….much more like a normal breeze that would happen now and then.
Let’s hope our weather reports are accurate and everyone continues to be SAFE throughout this windstorm.
We will keep you posted. Here’s hoping the power, telephone, and internet services are restored as soon as possible to the ARCADIA AREA.
MY, MY…something ‘FUN” is always happening.
With Love,
Hugs to All~

Thank you for the update Zenny. So glad to hear everyone is okay. Sorry to hear about all the damage to trees, houses and other property. Be careful in the winds the next few days and a speedy recovery for all.
@Marlene and Jeanie–great work. Honored to be a part of your passion. Wouldn’t mind my tax dollars going to fund rescues all over the country.
Lotsa love to all

Was just checking the internet for news unplesant as it is. This horse slaughter thing really has be so upset. Some sources say the food industry could be serving horse meat in a months time. Check your menu if you eat out I could never do it at all.
Another thought I can’t eat deer either I keep seeing Bambi looking at me. Buffalo if available is very good but seldom see it anywhere.
What will it take to stop the slaughter I guess we have to just keep calling and writing sure makes it easy as to whom one votes for or not.
I so admire all of you who are involved in horse rescue. You are saints walking this earth and have such strong hearts and souls. Thank you.

@Barbara Wood in TX, you asked to see a picture of Nate? Here is his page:

He is a handsome boy. He is not an “in your pocket” horse, and he’s rather be outside, but he does like the treats I bring him when I visit.
Janie (in L.A.)
Yes, Zenyatta, it was VERY windy here in L.A. last night and it’s supposed to be again tonight, but the hardest hit was the Pasadena/Arcadia area for some reason so I’m glad John, Dottie and Sophie are safe and all the horses at Santa Anita are too! The wind is so unsettling and nerve-wracking. I hope it’s nice and calm in your part of Kentucky, sweet girl.
Donna from Baltimore
I, too, am relieved no one was injured, man or horse! Everything else can be replaced. Thanks for keeping us informed, Dottie.
Love to Queen Z! Love to Team Z!
Tracy
Scary stuff,as long as all the people and horses are ok,that is what’s most important.

So glad everyone came through the wind storm safe and sound. Thanks Dottie for letting us know. Saying prayers that the wind will not be fierce again tonight!

Dottie – So glad you and Zenny’s JOHN are okay. Horses are smart, they seem to know when bad weather is coming and are amazingly quiet. So glad no one was hurt. Stay safe and keep us posted!
Debbie
hi Z! Thank goodness all of the horses and humans;) are ok, hopefully, they continue to be! YOU stay warm and cozy tonight, I love YOU gorgeous mama xoxoxo
Julie
Thanks so much as always for keeping us informed. My thoughts and prayers go out to Team Z and all others affected by this terrible windstorm. So glad that all the horses and people are safe.

Family in Pasadena, no electricity but all are ok. We are getting the winds today and tonight in NM, rain & snow to follow. Ugh. Love to Zenyatta’s family and, as always, thank you for sharing. Glad you’re all ok.
Vicki
Sure glad to hear that Dottie, John and Sophie all weathered the strong winds last night, it could have been a lot worst. Just saw a bit of coverage on the ABC News at Santa Anita and they showed some damage to one of the barns but said no horses or people were hurt there. That is a relief!
Judy Sims in Florida
Thank you so much Dottie for being so thoughtful to let us know that You, John, Sophie and the all the horses and your dumplings are safe and unhurt. Believe me I know how scary and destructive these fierce winds can be since I live in Florida and have been through several hurricanes. Two really bad ones, Donna and Wilma, hit Naples where I live. Stay safe and thanks again for being so good to all of Zenyatta’s and her team’s fans.
Praise be that all are safe.
Hugs to all.

Tie a knot and hang on. The national news showed pictures of Pasadena and I immediately thought of Arcadia and Santa Anita.

Mother Nature has enormous power in so many different forms. So appreciate your taking the time to update us and so glad all are all right and the horses came through like champs. All California Z-sters, please take care, be safe and watch out for fallen power lines. Here in Colorado, we’re being blessed with snow and cold temperatures. Zenyatta, hope it’s a gentler climate right now where you are so you can enjoy paddock time.
Theresa Buck/Texas
sending my thoughts and prayers to everyone there

Glad you guys are safe. My nephew in Simi Valley got those cruel Santa Ana winds too. Stay Healthy and Happy Big Beautiful Mama. Say Hi to Ms. Tasty.. xoxo.
Sally B. (Wi)
P.S. Sweet Z and all John & Dottie & all by Arcadian had winds of up to 97 mph!! Saw pictures on news given via Access Hollywood TV. It takes so long to grow those beautiful trees; that’s sad.
AJ from CA
Z – Glad Dottie and John are allright as well as the horses and crew at Santa Anita. I live by LAX and power went down for an hour last night. Been in the area all my life and have not been through such vicious winds as long as I can remember. Amazing there were no one was seriously hurt. We can always replace the material things but life is the most precious of all.

Dear Zenyatta I am so glad that Dottie, John and Sophie are safe. How scarey that must have been. I know what it is like to have power outages. One time our power was out a week in Jan. My husband kept our house at 50 running the gas fireplace and a Kerosene heater. He stayed up and never slept. That was so hard on all of us. I hope you had a good day sweet girl. I voted for you as the most important event of the year in horseracing. We all think whatever you do is just Grand. Well off to do homework. I love you very much. Hugs and Kisses, Shari XXXOOO

Oh, yeah- The winds have torn up all of L.A., but Pasadena/ Arcadia area really got hit. I live 20 minutes west of there off the 210,we had it, too. But it was worse there! SO GLAD John and Dottie are OK. And all the horses- They must have been freaking out a bit. Good luck with round 2 tonight and stay safe!!

Hi Zenny, I just read that Ebby is back in training after a brief rest due to a minor illness. We’ll be watching for her debut for sure!
Dottie, I hope tonight is a bit calmer for all of you. I read Mario and Carmen live very near Barn 55. Is their home OK?
Celeste
Thanks for letting us know that John and Dottie and Sophie and the horses are all ok. It is hard to imagine so much wind damage in that area and I hope everything gets back to normal soon.
VickiS.
Yeah, winds here in Bubank were CRAZY last night. Today, not so bad. But, NO WONDER my poor horse is quite “frazzled”. She’s in the Sun Valley area. She’s definitely on edge. Needless to say… no riding today. I value my life! ;)
Haley
Oh my! I hope that everyone is ok. That is good that there are no major injuries to the Z team and hopefully to anyone else. And I am very happy that the horses are ok. I hope that everyone is in a safe and sound place. Love you Zenyatta!

Have been just a rest. Glad she recovered. Sounds like
She has a Zenny stride. Oh how fun to ride a horse
With a huge stride, so much ground in such few
Steps. Like gliding.

Thank you, our AMAZING GOD, who gets our attention and brings us through all trials and WINDS ….. Thank YOU That Dottie, John and Sophie are safe. Thank you, Dottie, for this wonderful website that lets us all voice our love, inspiration and hopes for Zenyatta and her soon to be born foal, and all of the other important issues in our lives. What you and Zenny’s Family have done for us Zenny Fans and horseracing is beyond remarkable! Zenny YOUR FAMILY has enlightened so many people about teamwork and what can be accomplished with mutual love and support.
Right now, we are having the strongest winds I can ever remember in New Mexico. Must be moving across the west.
I appreciate prayers tonight – especially for all of the animals here in the west that are outside – so many of our neighbors here have shelters for them – but I’m not sure we’re prepared for this one!
Also, so many homeless (especially Veterans) choose to be out on their own all over the world – camping out. I hope you’ll all pray for them as well.
Thank you to everyone in our Z-Fan Family for such tender, loving hearts – Prayers as always for all of the horses!
@ Tony and Sue –such a beautifully said message
@ Dan – would also love an Ebby update – maybe there’s one and I’ve not had time to check tonight
@ Signofthetimes- love all you say
@ Abigail – You are such a gifted, inspired writer – I look to see your wit and wisdom every day
@ Trisha – I hope ZENNY hits 100,000 on Face Book asap (hooves crossed)
@ Marlene – May God always bless you for your Heart and Tenacity – God has raised some STRONG Women and Men!
So many more to thank, but I think I’m going to lose the internet (satellite here in the wilds of New Mexico) any minute – really annoying at times, but mostly exciting – and I’m thankful we even have the internet!
Love to You ALL and especially LOVE to YOU, ZENNY – you’ve brought us all so MUCH JOY!
PS Please pray for all of the critters tonight in this WIND! We have a wildlife sanctuary here at our home – our home borders wilderness behind us for miles, and I try not to worry about all of ‘our’ (really ours on loan from above) critters, but I’m afraid I do worry. Thanks everyone – hooves crossed and especially – love and thanks to YOU, ZENNY and your wonderful FAMILY !
