NEWS ALERT! HEAVY WINDS HIT THE ARCADIA AREA LAST NIGHT! MY JOHN WILL TRY AND GET SOME PHOTOS FOR YOU SOON!
Hello Everyone,
So, so sorry to be posting you this late in the day. MY JOHN and DOTTIE (Sophie too) live in Arcadia, California…right by Santa Anita. Last night, that area had a HUGE wind storm. The winds were the hardest and traveling the fastest any of them can remember. The power is completely out in ALL of Arcadia, the phone / internet lines are not working, and trees are down everywhere. Schools are closed, businesses are also closed…and people are traveling about very carefully due to all of the trees and power lines that are down and blocking the roads.
On Huntington Drive, right by the racetrack, there are cars covered with fallen trees. None of the street signals anywhere in town are working. As for Dottie and MY JOHN, 2 large trees from their neighbors yard fell…and are now in their yard. Thus, the fence is destroyed in 2 places as well. Patio furniture moved around the yard and 2 chairs went into the pool from one of the decks. It is truly amazing to see how these winds could literally MOVE this heavy furniture and force all of these trees to fall.
Dottie went over to Santa Anita late this morning and some of the huge trees by the one escalator are completely down. Smaller trees in the plant are also on the ground. It seems like the backside held up fairly well. At this time, 2:15 CA TIME in the afternoon, all reports on the horses are great. They came through it all like CHAMPS! So, there is much to be very, very thankful for!
From all reports, there is to be more of these high winds later today and tomorrow morning. By noon Friday, the intensity in them is to be rather small….much more like a normal breeze that would happen now and then.
Let’s hope our weather reports are accurate and everyone continues to be SAFE throughout this windstorm.
We will keep you posted. Here’s hoping the power, telephone, and internet services are restored as soon as possible to the ARCADIA AREA.
MY, MY…something ‘FUN” is always happening.
With Love,
Hugs to All~

Dottie – John – Sophie and ALL horses. I’m glad to hear that you are safe. Sorry to hear about the fallen trees and no power. That really sucks – but everyone is safe which is what we should all be gretful for.
I’ve seen some pictures from DFR and Bloodhorse – it’s crazy how such big trees fall…. I hope the track and barns will be repaired so that racing can start on Dec 26- it’s been something I do every year for the last 4 years. I always look forward to going – it’s such a nice track.

Dottie I’m just no one was hurt. Houses and fences can be fixed and/or rebuilt. It’s a pain I know but your life can’t be so easily fixed if your gone or have been hurt grievously.
I want to remind EVERYONE that the horses DOMESTICATE and WILD, burro and zebra all need our help. Please I grace links yesterday to the two petitions asking Pres O’Bummer to stop funding USDA and to BAN horse slaughter someone suggested postcards and I totally concur. Flood the WH with postcards asking the Pres to step up to the plate. He PROMISED in 2008 tp protect the horses. Talk about betrayal! Please Zennie has so many fans we can stop this madness if we ALL work together.
I don’t care about past differences. I don’t care if you like me or not. This isn’t about me. I don’t get any money from this. No prestige. Nada. My only goal here is to stop the insane madness of a few politicians.
For myself I thank you. On behalf of the horses I know they would thank you. Let’s get this done!

Since I live in the general area… I’ve been very worried about you AND the horses. Thank you for giving us an update. I was lucky because I did not have downed trees or the power OUT.
Take care!

Oh my goodness. Thank you for posting this update. So glad everyone is safe. Sorry I haven’t been able to post in awhile Z. The single parent challenges of working two jobs keeps me hopping. I try to read your posts everyday; however, when my time is extremely limited, it may be a couple of days before I can catch up. I do read all of them though. Love you Zenyatta!!!! Thinking of you Dottie, John and Sophie.

Oh and the weather north of the Golden Gate Bridge? Windy as can be. Haven’t seen any trees down but I wouldn’t be surprised. Sure hope everyone is okay,

Hi Zenny: All of us were starting to get a little worried. I am very happy to hear YOUR John and Dottie and the rest of your CA family including Sophie are safe. However I am sorry to hear about trees down and damage to their property. However all that can be fixed. Zenny, I must say that I am getting very excited about your sister, Eblouissante, nearing her racing debut. Please let us know if YOUR John knows what race he is pointing her to. If I can I would love to be there for her 1st race. Take care, Zenny.

Stay safe all you connected to Zenyatta out in Arcadia and surrounding areas. Good thoughts are with you all.

It’s dreadful and sad to see those old trees go down. SA posted some photos to their Facebook feed, and it’s not a pretty sight. So happy that there were no injuries to man or beast involved. Weather is so odd, I’m in SoCal also, and we did not have so much as a whisper of a breeze last night.

@Zenyatta: Please let all of YOUR TEAM know that we have all our hooves crossed for their safety and security. Let Dottie know we certainly understand if she has to take a break from helping YOU write your Diary! Storm clean up is a major pain! I hear no humans or horses were hurt – THAT IS A MIRACLE! Stay safe, warm, dry.

Glad to hear that the horses at SA are all safe, and that Zenny’s humans are OK too. We can get strong winds around here, but they are usually associated with thunderstorms.
Abigail from Montreal
Dottie, John, Sophie: SO GLAD TO HEAR THAT YOU ARE SAFE! This sounds like an absolutely dreadful storm — minus the snow, it’s not unlike a Montreal winter storm, or blizzard, where power lines go down, trees fall and the usual “repeatability” of life goes right up the chimney!!!! It’s kind of standard for Montrealers to stock up on candles & emergency generators before December 1st. YES — do keep us posted! Very glad to hear the horses came through it like champs. HUGS TO YOU & SOPHIE!
@ Gloria Jeane: Thanks for the news on Ebby. I guess she’s pretty much like her big sister in some ways!
@ ALL: THE VAULT just posted a new article on Black Caviar with some amazing photos by Australian photographer, Bronwen Healy. Enjoy! HUGS TO ONE & ALL.

Delrene from Carlsbad - (California)
Dottie -/ and Zenyatta – Thanks so much for letting us know you are safe and sound. Furniture in pool. Pretty hard winds. We have been lucky so far in Carlsbad, Ca – and surrounding areas, pretty darn breezy and lots of palm fronds and pool is a mess with leaves, but nothing like they predicted….. Yet. Thanks for the update.
Deborah Richman from So. Cal.
Dottie, thank you for taking the time to update us worrying fans! It sounds pretty bad out in Arcadia. Here in Northridge we haven’t had any power outages, but the palm tree in front of my house keeps dropping fronds on the power lines and I keep having to knock them off as well as I can. I’m glad to hear that you are all safe and that things are ok in the barns.
California Z’sters…I hope you and yours stay safe!

Dearest Zenyatta,
I am so very GLAD to learn that your dear John, Dottie, Sophie, and all of their horses living in the Santa Anita “annex” emerged unscathed from the fierce windstorm which buffeted the San Gabriel Valley last night! The gusts were fearsome, Zenyatta, and none of us who live in the Arcadia area got so much as a glimmer of rest. When I awoke this morning, I felt as if I had landed in Oz! M patio furniture had landed in my neighbor’s yard, and my sweet old crepe myrtle had snapped a huge limb like a matchstick, and was draped across my front gate. I could not leave the house, until someone with a buzz saw arrived to cut away the debris! Pieces of my roofing have flown to parts unknown. The entire area is littered with the remains of beautiful trees which have managed to survive every storm of the past century—but this.
I am so grateful to know that all of your dear friends and loved ones are safe, Zenyatta, and mine, too! Thank God all of the Santa Anita horses are doing well, and frankly, I am amazed that some of those barns did not rip apart in the blast. I hope all of the Z’sters are doing okay today. More winds are expected tonight.

Oh Z, I am relieved to hear John & Dottie and the horses at Anita are fine! Wooh! I like adventure, but not that kind!! It is amazing the power of nature. Hope everything is up and running today yet. God bless. love & 2 kisses on your soft nose, one for baby z
@those interested in Herb Kohl, Wi. Senator. Herb Kohl is retiring from his Senate seat, but there is still time to contact him as I believe that would not occur until 2012.

Zenny, please thank Dottie for all the info on the terrible winds at Santa Anita last night – and I’m so glad all of the horses are safe! I grew up about 10 minutes west of SA, just off Huntington Drive – in Alhambra. I sure don’t remember ever having gone through those kinds of winds tho – but then that was back in the l960’s. Again, SO happy to hear everyone is safe & sound!

Dear Zeny, John, Dottie and sweet Sophie,
I’m so glad all are safe. When those Santa Anna winds blow they can be fierce. Our weather her in KC reported that they were in excess of 100mph in some places. So glad the horses are safe too. You are all so special to all of us, take care.
