NEWS ALERT! HEAVY WINDS HIT THE ARCADIA AREA LAST NIGHT! MY JOHN WILL TRY AND GET SOME PHOTOS FOR YOU SOON!
Hello Everyone,
So, so sorry to be posting you this late in the day. MY JOHN and DOTTIE (Sophie too) live in Arcadia, California…right by Santa Anita. Last night, that area had a HUGE wind storm. The winds were the hardest and traveling the fastest any of them can remember. The power is completely out in ALL of Arcadia, the phone / internet lines are not working, and trees are down everywhere. Schools are closed, businesses are also closed…and people are traveling about very carefully due to all of the trees and power lines that are down and blocking the roads.
On Huntington Drive, right by the racetrack, there are cars covered with fallen trees. None of the street signals anywhere in town are working. As for Dottie and MY JOHN, 2 large trees from their neighbors yard fell…and are now in their yard. Thus, the fence is destroyed in 2 places as well. Patio furniture moved around the yard and 2 chairs went into the pool from one of the decks. It is truly amazing to see how these winds could literally MOVE this heavy furniture and force all of these trees to fall.
Dottie went over to Santa Anita late this morning and some of the huge trees by the one escalator are completely down. Smaller trees in the plant are also on the ground. It seems like the backside held up fairly well. At this time, 2:15 CA TIME in the afternoon, all reports on the horses are great. They came through it all like CHAMPS! So, there is much to be very, very thankful for!
From all reports, there is to be more of these high winds later today and tomorrow morning. By noon Friday, the intensity in them is to be rather small….much more like a normal breeze that would happen now and then.
Let’s hope our weather reports are accurate and everyone continues to be SAFE throughout this windstorm.
We will keep you posted. Here’s hoping the power, telephone, and internet services are restored as soon as possible to the ARCADIA AREA.
MY, MY…something ‘FUN” is always happening.
With Love,
Hugs to All~

@Sandy in NE Ohio –What do you mean nothing happened? Did the scores not change or what? I am originally from Cincinnati (Lockland), Ohio. I am registered, so not sure on that count. Zenyatta needs every vote that she can get. Please try again. Thank you.

The TRF thoroughbred memorabilia charity auction currently has a framed photo of Zenyatta in the Breeders Cup and it is signed by Mike Smith. The current bid is $100.00.

I hope John and Dottie have power on since they live by the track. I have a friend who also lives in the area and his power has been down since last week with no relief in sight. Luckily he has gas heating for the cold nights but no electricity.

Shari V & Trina, I have been reposting that article all over the place, it’s good, and a very good informative response by AAMI, u have to scroll a way down the responses to find it, but it has really good points that can be mentioned in any letters or phn calls u may be making. I didn’t know Ms Wirth was associated with Madame Mistletoe, now I like her even more. Love those Peppermint Pals and have not had time to chk in on them lately.

Just made a donation to Marlene toward the black and white paint – in the memory of Cloud Man and in the joy to come of Little Cloud. Hope it’s in time to make it a Merry Christmas for this beautiful boy. Jeanie keep us posted on the progress. Thanks. Happy monday to the greatest of all – Zenny!!!!!

@Sign. Fantastic link on Coriana. I love those little kicks that she gives sometimes after making the jump. And her bows to the crowd are reminiscent of the Queen herself who has set the standard for equine excellence. Horses so deserve our love and respect and should not be treated as anything other than superior beings. More power to all who are fighting against the slaughter of horses.

Thank goodness all the horses are ok and also hoping everyone connected with barn 55 , and your CA family. Other than that I hope you had a great weekend. Enjoy the weather while you can.
Love hugs and kisses

@Sharon in Seattle and Linda from Chicago–thank you so much! Believe me, Marlene knows that SO much help is coming from Z-fans! Whoever adopts Cloud Man’s namesake will get the story of Zenyatta! So proud to be a part of the wonderful group!

A couple race training questions….Should the work out times (breezes) for two year olds and three year olds be close? Do they regularly workout at the same lengths? Thanks for any responses.

Good Morning zenny:
I see it is raining in Kentucky so hope you are keeping cozy and dry in your stall or do you and Tasty go out in the rain anyway?
Cigar is out in the rain this morning (9:57 AM EST) as I just checked the webcam.
Hoping to hear soon how the Shireff’s and your California team are faring. Yesterday’s L.A. times (I read it online) said Arcadia was still without power and the winds were due to intensify again last night.
Praying for everone’s safety.
Hugs & nose kisses.

Oops! Sorry I spelled Dottie’s and Your John’s last name wrong. Should be “Shirreffs.”

@Jeanie, Marlene’s website says they still need $250 as of 8:26. Do you know if that is last night or this morning? I’m wondering how much more she needs. I will send more $$ sometime today.

Zenyatta, it sounds like Arcadia, California had quite an adventure with all the wind and everything. I’m glad that John and Dottie came through it all right. I’m also very happy that the horses at Santa Anita came through completely unharmed. This reminds me of things that have happened in or near where I live. Like they say, when the going gets tough, the tough get going.
