NEWS ALERT! HEAVY WINDS HIT THE ARCADIA AREA LAST NIGHT! MY JOHN WILL TRY AND GET SOME PHOTOS FOR YOU SOON!
Hello Everyone,
So, so sorry to be posting you this late in the day. MY JOHN and DOTTIE (Sophie too) live in Arcadia, California…right by Santa Anita. Last night, that area had a HUGE wind storm. The winds were the hardest and traveling the fastest any of them can remember. The power is completely out in ALL of Arcadia, the phone / internet lines are not working, and trees are down everywhere. Schools are closed, businesses are also closed…and people are traveling about very carefully due to all of the trees and power lines that are down and blocking the roads.
On Huntington Drive, right by the racetrack, there are cars covered with fallen trees. None of the street signals anywhere in town are working. As for Dottie and MY JOHN, 2 large trees from their neighbors yard fell…and are now in their yard. Thus, the fence is destroyed in 2 places as well. Patio furniture moved around the yard and 2 chairs went into the pool from one of the decks. It is truly amazing to see how these winds could literally MOVE this heavy furniture and force all of these trees to fall.
Dottie went over to Santa Anita late this morning and some of the huge trees by the one escalator are completely down. Smaller trees in the plant are also on the ground. It seems like the backside held up fairly well. At this time, 2:15 CA TIME in the afternoon, all reports on the horses are great. They came through it all like CHAMPS! So, there is much to be very, very thankful for!
From all reports, there is to be more of these high winds later today and tomorrow morning. By noon Friday, the intensity in them is to be rather small….much more like a normal breeze that would happen now and then.
Let’s hope our weather reports are accurate and everyone continues to be SAFE throughout this windstorm.
We will keep you posted. Here’s hoping the power, telephone, and internet services are restored as soon as possible to the ARCADIA AREA.
MY, MY…something ‘FUN” is always happening.
With Love,
Hugs to All~
Z

@Sue Fredrick–congratulations, Badgers!
@Jeanie–thanks for the posting here. I DO pray we can do this! It’s a life.
Just went to BH to vote for Z. for #1. She always will be!
Just a reminder–Mike Smith’s dollar-a-day charity drive is in full swing. I’m having fun visiting all the websites to donate a dollar –one per day.
@Karen Gogue–I poted your link to the article on the Equi-Army site. Thanks!
Hoping for an update tomorrow from Dottie on the storm damage. Hope the cleanup is well underway.

I voted for Zenyatta. THE QUEEN will be my Most Intriguing Horse of Every Year Forever…and I voted for Mr. Shirreffs(my hero)…I’m sure that comes as NO surprise to anyone.-LOL!

@Jeanie E—I’ll send some to Marlene’s Valley View Ranch Rescue for the paint tonight.
@JSmith—I’ll also go to TROTT to make a donation that will be matched! Thanks for the good news!

@TRINA: This is TOO CUTE re: your Love Bug & my Doodle Bug! In the latter case, we’re now going into our third week together and I’m loving every moment. She’s a big girl but oh, so sweet. As Ann Moss said about our Zenny, Daisy “chooses to be kind” and this despite having been beaten & abused.
@MAX: Thanks for the link to our Eric Lamaze & Coriana. WOW! He had to be over the top about this gutsy little mare’s performance against world competition! And I remember Darko, one of Coriana’s ancestors. He seems to have become a terrific sire!
@ ALL: Thinking of everyone & sending love to all. Big hugs to me sweet Zenny & to Tasty too — stay cozy tonight, ladies.
Abigail from Montreal
GEEZ! @ TRINA: Meant to add that we seem to form a “Daisy chain”!!!!

So glad everyone is safe!

@Barbara Wood: Baylor Bears! I have a nephew who graduated from Baylor; attended on a full baseball scholarship (his dad played football for Baylor). I traveled to Waco to watch my nephew play in a few of his games. The St. Louis Cardinals drafted him – short-lived career due to injury. He met his wife at Baylor. I have no doubt that if the Lord doesn’t return before their boys are college age I’ll be back in Waco to watch them play ball (not sure if they will be tackling a ball or swinging a bat at it). I wonder why Waco doesn’t change its name to Baylor, TX, haha. Sic’em Bears!!

Batten down the hatches in LA, CA;
Just heard on the news there will be more high winds (65mph) this afternoon or this evening. Thoughts and prayers with all of you.

Please Vote for Zenyatta. She’s not 1,2 or 3. Looks to me like she’s in 4th place. Please correct me if I’m wrong. Best way to help her become the Most Intriguing Horse in 2011 is to vote Zenyatta 1st, Havre de Grace Last, Frankel, next to last and Goldikova in 23rd place. Let’s go to work!!!!
Barbara Wood (Texas)
@Abigail from Montreal–our Diasy Mae (German Shepherd) chooses to be kind as well, despite being chained and mistreated.
@Jeanie–going to Valley View website now. Thanks, Trina! You’re a peach!
@Especially Horses– if you come to Waco, please let me know in advance so we can meet! That would be cool. We here at lowly Baylor can hardly stand the prosperity–nationally ranked in football, women’s bassketball (beat Minnesota today 89-60), and men’s basketball (and who knows what else).
Just awaiting bowl bid and hooves crossed for the Heisman. Can you tell me your family members’ names? I was class of ’67 and our daughter was ’95. The other day you gave me a Bible verse. I have one for you: it’s Proverbs 12:10. That is what led me in part to my full-time efforts here and at Equi-Army.
We who had no rain here in TX are now having rain and you in CA who have had such devastating winds are due for more. Everything is out of balance everywhere.
EXCEPT in your barn, Z, where peace and calm reign. Love you always.

@Abigail. Coriana van Klapcheut was an American registered jumper until April of this year when they changed her nationality to Canadian. When Hickstead died, I knew somehow she would step up and make her mark to help out Eric Lamaze. It was a great athletic performance by a very determined little mare and by Eric Lamaze on his return to competition after that very tragic event in November. I think that they will be competing in Florida later this month.

@Max
Just found this really nice article about Corina, lots of great accomplishments this year. May not have the milage/age for the 2012 olympics yet; but Eric Lamaze said she is now his top horse.
She had a really cute game face at the bottom; ears back and concentrating

I tried to vote for Zenyatta and nothing happened. Do you have to be “registered” at the Bloodhorse site to do this?

Hi Z,
Happy to hear everyone in California is okay, including little Sophie and Misha. Hope the lights are back on now and things are relatively normal.
I have a request for those who read your diary like I do. Please take a moment to check out the link on My Miss Aurelia’ Facebook page regarding overturning the horse slaughter bill President Obama signed into law this past week. It provides information regarding overturning the legislation. Have a good evening everyone.

@Barbara Wood: My nephew, Matthew Williams, played baseball for Baylor from 1998-2001, his wife Stacy Vanhorn graduated in 2000.

Proverbs 12:10. The righteous care for the needs of their animals, but the kindest acts of the wicked are cruel. A wonderful verse. Here’s something from Randy Alcorn’s book “Heaven” that is so awesome to ponder, referencing John Wesley, Alcorn states Wesley asking “After recounting mankind’s sad record of cruelty to animals, Wesley asked, “but will the creature always remain in this deplorable condition? God forbid….or even entertain such a thought! The whole creation will then, undoubtedly, be restored, not only to the vigor, strength, and swiftness, which they had at their creation, but to a far higher degree of each than they ever enjoyed. They will be restored, not only to that measure of understanding which they had in paradise, but to a degree of it as such higher than that. Whatever affections they had in the garden of God, will be restored with vast increase; being exalted and refined in a manner which we ourselves are not now able to comprehend…and with their beauty their happiness will return….there will be nothing to give pain, but everything that the wisdom and goodness of God can create to give happiness. As a recompense for what they [animals] once suffered….they shall enjoy happiness suited to their state, without alloy, without interruption, and without end. Wesley then made and extraordinary speculation: What, if it should then please the all-wise, the all-gracious Creator to raise them higher in the scale of beings? What, if it should please Him…to make them…. capable of knowing and loving and enjoying the Author of their being?” In my heart and soul I truly believe that Wesley is right!

@Abigail in Montreal AND Barbara Wood—We’re three links in a “daisy chain”, as you so cleverly put it, Abigail. High hoof!
@Jean Patricia—THANK YOU for mentioning the link on My Miss Aurelia’s fb page to the petitions opposing horse slaughter. Here is the link posted there: http://our-compass.org/2011/11/29/obama-signs-law-legalizing-horse-slaughter-in-the-us/#more-20667

@JSmith—Correction: I said I was going to TROTT to donate, but I saw in your post that we should donate to TROTT through the Monterey County Weekly website in order to have it matched, so that’s where I went: https://www.montereycountygives.com/Donate.aspx

@Jean Patricia–going to Miss Aurelia’s page now.
@Kari Bussell–lol! But don’t let our Katherine Wheeler hear you–she lives in Baton Rouge!
@Especially Horses–I don’t know the “kids”, but I would love to meet them.
And I agree with you totally. I believe we as humans have a responsibility toward our animal– a responsibility, that has sadly been abused all too often by way too many.
@Sharon in Seattle–I think we are playing Washington in the AlamoBowl. That seems a long way for people way up there to travel, but they didn’t ask me.
Got an e-mail from Marlene Dodge–she said she still has a way to go but she hopes to make it.
