NEWS ALERT! HEAVY WINDS HIT THE ARCADIA AREA LAST NIGHT! MY JOHN WILL TRY AND GET SOME PHOTOS FOR YOU SOON!
Hello Everyone,
So, so sorry to be posting you this late in the day. MY JOHN and DOTTIE (Sophie too) live in Arcadia, California…right by Santa Anita. Last night, that area had a HUGE wind storm. The winds were the hardest and traveling the fastest any of them can remember. The power is completely out in ALL of Arcadia, the phone / internet lines are not working, and trees are down everywhere. Schools are closed, businesses are also closed…and people are traveling about very carefully due to all of the trees and power lines that are down and blocking the roads.
On Huntington Drive, right by the racetrack, there are cars covered with fallen trees. None of the street signals anywhere in town are working. As for Dottie and MY JOHN, 2 large trees from their neighbors yard fell…and are now in their yard. Thus, the fence is destroyed in 2 places as well. Patio furniture moved around the yard and 2 chairs went into the pool from one of the decks. It is truly amazing to see how these winds could literally MOVE this heavy furniture and force all of these trees to fall.
Dottie went over to Santa Anita late this morning and some of the huge trees by the one escalator are completely down. Smaller trees in the plant are also on the ground. It seems like the backside held up fairly well. At this time, 2:15 CA TIME in the afternoon, all reports on the horses are great. They came through it all like CHAMPS! So, there is much to be very, very thankful for!
From all reports, there is to be more of these high winds later today and tomorrow morning. By noon Friday, the intensity in them is to be rather small….much more like a normal breeze that would happen now and then.
Let’s hope our weather reports are accurate and everyone continues to be SAFE throughout this windstorm.
We will keep you posted. Here’s hoping the power, telephone, and internet services are restored as soon as possible to the ARCADIA AREA.
MY, MY…something ‘FUN” is always happening.
With Love,
Hugs to All~

ALL Z’ISTERS AND THE GREAT ONE
I’M GLAD YOU GOT THE NEWS FROM BARBARA GRIMALDI ABOUT THE RESCUE OPERATION. I HAD A TYPO IN MY ORIGINAL MESSAGE TO HER, IT WAS 3 PREGNANT MARES (one carrying our Little Cloud) and the little 2-year old T-Bred cross (I typed T-news!) Anyway, like Barbara said, they are all fine.
Marlene knows she has some funds that came in after she left and she will assess how much she has to work with when she gets home. HOWEVER, SHE HAD TO LEAVE BEHIND THE PAINT GELDING. AS I MENTIONED A COUPLE OF DAYS AGO, THE FEEDLOT OPERATOR WANTED $1,200 FOR THAT HORSE AND MARLENE WAS UPSET BY THE PRICE; FELT THE FEEDLOT OPERATOR WAS TRYING TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF HER (US). SHE WOULD STILL LIKE TO SAVE THE PAINT GELDING; THE FEEDLOT OPERATOR HAS GIVEN HER UNTIL MONDAY OR TUESDAY TO RAISE THE FUNDS, OR THE HORSE GOES ON THE TRUCK BOUND FOR CANADA AND THE SLAUGHTERHOUSE.
If you have the ability to donate, please do so by Monday so Marlene can try to save this horse. Thank you all for your generostiy and caring.
I AM SO THANKFUL THAT OUR DEAR GIRL WILL ALWAYS BE SAFE.
ZENNY, I LOVE YOU GIRL.
You humble J
Barbara Wood (Texas)

A little weepy tonight Zenny…one year ago 12/4 I visited with you one last time at your home Barn 55….It is hard to believe that you have been away from us out here for a year….I’ll never forget those memories of visiting you up close and personal….having life and not imaginary, it seems as if it were an elusive dream, yet there you were so magnificent and proud and gentle….splendid, giving off life force, a presence which left me without words…kisses and pats and hugs and all the LOVE were yours that day…leaving one in awe and a heart ready to burst, not worthy of belief…. with clouds above, leaving me with the feeling that I had truly, truly been transported to Cloud 9 and beyond… floating away…floating away into heaven…..and that elusive dream was no more….

Congratulations Auntie Sally B. – and baby B.! :) <3

@Karen Gogue—Lovely post!

@Sign. As far as I know, Coriana is named after her mother, Uriana van Klapcheut. Her sire is Darco and her dam sire is Heartbreaker. She comes from a good family. Like Jerry Moss, I am interested in the names of horses. It is always important to find the right one for each horse. It is therefore all important to discover the right name for Zenyatta’s foal as we all know.

Good morning Zenny, still no news of Dottie, John and Sophie so they may still have no power but our hooves are crossed, finger and toes too, that all is well with them.
@sign – thanks for the lesson on marish behavior, Vic’s mount, Bella definitely is not fond of being tacked up, particularly the girth, doesn’t object to grooming quite as much but is an absolute angel when she’s mounted and working. She reverts to bad habits after the lesson when Vic has to put her blanket on, that’s when she “nipped” my hair last week.
@ Sally B – Yes, Eddington is in Secretariat’s stall, his nameplate is at the top.

John Dottie Sophie, Wishing you all the best of outcomes during the power problems. Fortunately, you were safely out of the path of the trees. ‘

@Sally B — Eddington is in Secretariat’s old stall at Claiborne. We took a number of photos of Eddington, the stall and brass plaque during our visit last year.

Good Morning Zenny & Tasty. Hope you are enjoying the day.
Certainly hope that the Shirreffs are okay and getting their electricity and internet access back soon if not already. Also it was a blessing that all the horses came through unscathed.
They are racing today at Hollywood Park; so hopefully that is a good sign. After hurricane Wilma struck my area we were without electricity for almost 2 weeks and lost all our trees including most of our palms. Mother Nature can be ferocious.
@Sharon in Seattle: I am watching for Cigar too and so far nothing. Yesterday there was a lot of activity out on the dirt road in front of the paddock. A couple of horse vans and two horses in their blankets but I couldn’t tell what horses. Also couldn’t tell what exactly they were doing but one horse got saddled and another was eating hay that was hung on the side of the van.
Hope we hear from Dottie soon, Zenny, but I imagine she and Your John are busy with clean up, navigating traffic to the barns and tracks and tending to the horses. I am amazed that you were thoughtful enough to let us know that everyone was okay right after it happened.
Hugs & nose kisses.

Just checked and Cigar is out! (11:36 am EST)
Also, forgot to mention, Zenny, that Your John is probably taking lots of pictures to share with us and that takes time when you are as busy as he is.
More hugs & nose kisses.

@Sharon in Seattle–Cigar is out and about–it’s 10:46am in Il.

Dear Zenny,
Hope you and TT are having a relaxing Sunday. With the cool weather and your sweaters, those lovely little foals should be
warm and toasty. Hope you are mowing the lawn well and getting that pampering Matt gives you. XXXXOOO

Thanks SO much for the Zenyatta video!!! I wasn’t sure which one was yours at first, but I just clicked on what seemed to be the most recently posted image. That may be closest I’m ever going to get to her!! It was fun to see Mario and Carmen too.

For the Zenyatta faithfuls, the link to rank Zenyatta (and others) for the 2011 Most Intriguing Horse is:

As of Sunday noon, Zenyatta is NOT first, and although I personally love the other beauties on the list, surely Zenyatta deserves to be FIRST!

VOTE, everyone!

Hi Z’isters
Regarding the Paint Gelding needing rescue in Nevada, I have called and emailed Marlene but I have not gotten a response this morning. I have checked her website and she has not updated it yet. She probably got in very late last night.
I DON’T KNOW HOW MUCH, BUT AS I SAID LAST NIGHT, SHE THOUGHT SHE HAD SOME OVERAGE FROM THE $3K GOAL. IF WE ASSUME MAYBE AROUND $200, SHE STILL NEEDS $1,000. I THINK THE PRUDENT THING TO DO AT THIS POINT IS LET’S SHOOT FOR THAT UNTIL WE HEAR SOMETHING FROM HER. IF THERE IS ANYTHING LEFT OVER, YOU KNOW SHE WILL HELP SAVE A HORSE WITH IT. THAT’S REALLY ALL I CAN SAY RIGHT NOW, EXCEPT THAT I LOVE ZENYATTA AND I THANK GOD EVERY DAY THAT SHE IS SAFE AND HAS THE MOST CARING, RESPONSIBLE OWNERS THAT LOVE HEAR DEARLY.
YOUR HUMBLE J
Max
@HappyHarriet. I just voted for Zenyatta as number 1. She may be retired from racing, but she is still the most intriguing horse of 2011. She is an inspiring trendsetter in everything that she does.
