Good Morning,
It is the final day of November, 2011. It seems like the last 30 days have been extremely busy and filled with a variety of events. The month started with all of the Breeders’ Cup activities, races, and MY PARTY. (YIPPEE!) It ultimately wound down with an abundance of great racing around the country. Rapid Redux reached #20! Hollywood Park’s Autumn Festival, the competitive 2 year old stakes at Churchill on their closing weekend, and Aqueduct hosting races as the Cigar Mile, Remsen, Gazelle, and Demoiselle all added to the excitement. Many current and future stars performed with such style. Congratulations to all of the victors and their connections!
Additionally, the November HORSE SALES have been very active at Fasig-Tipton, Keeneland, and now Tattersalls in Newmarket. The quality of stock auctioned at these venues has been excellent…and the prices paid for these horses reflected such. People truly love our sport and want to be involved!
In reality, so much action constantly takes place in ‘the horse world’! There is always something new to learn, to study, and to enjoy! I truly believe this is what makes it all so enjoyable and intriguing to people! There is never a dull moment and the pace at which our sport functions definitely keeps you ‘on your toes’.
Santa Anita, ‘The Great Race Place’, as it is often called, opens the day after Christmas. Currently, their staff is extremely busy completing a number of maintenance projects. In the infield, they are installing a brand new high-tech video board. This BIG BOARD will measure 53′ by 29′ offering the best resolution available in technology today. New state-of-the art boards are also being placed in the paddock area to enhance the entire racing experience for the ‘on-track’ fans. In this photo, they are dismantling and removing the ‘old infield board’. All of this is actually a very specific and detailed process…but the workers are making great progress.
When completed…it should be amazing! HMMM! Perhaps they’ll show some videos of ME on it next season! Now that would be TOO CUTE!
Happy November 30th!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

I am extremely angry and upset with Sen Herb Kohl for what he has done after I sent him and others letters regarding this horse slaughter bill, and received a canned letter back with a bunch of nonsense in it!! And while I can appreciate the boycotting of businesses for their stands on issues I must tell you Mr. Kohl sold the stores a long time ago and has nothing to do with them anymore. He is up for re-election next year, however, and I will take a stand then. As for Obamma this is one of many reasons why he won’t get my vote!!
@KARI BUSSEL,MARSHAL-NC, TRINA NAEGLE,BARBARA WOOD AND ABIGAIL, thank you so much for your comforting thoughts on the loss of my OPIE, I have filled out a new adoption application and am waiting to hear if we can get Precious. I will let you know what happens. You are all special, caring people.
As for my lovely Z girl I hope you are enjoying your days with Tasty at LE and are aware of the army of advocates you have brought together. We are a mighty bunch!
Luv and kisses on your nose

At the sun begins to set, all I can think of is Marlene having to sleep in her truck. Hope more donations to save Little Cloud came pouring in today.

It’s me again…this is the last one…this is Zenny’ site but i want you all to know what i have done and consider the possibilies if we all did the same…just a thought/idea/brainstorm..LOL
@Everyone;
Senator Kohl of Wisconsin, Senator Kerry of Massachusetts and Massachusetts Senator Scott Brown, who is in a re-election campaign have all received emails from yours trult today.
I was not subtle…it was blunt…do something or suffer economic or political consequence…so you all now know where I live (LOL)We will see what happens…when I get responses (and I will), I will share…meatine, thank you Zenyatta for letting me pout off today with your blessings…
love and peace to all

meantime and spout..duh…

@M. Kern–thanks for link. Unfortunately the msnbc video clip basically says that slaughtering is OK–only affects 1% of horses–less than any other country. I think we’ll have to write to msnbc as well.

YOUR STILL THE ONE:)

Brrrr-rrr…No wonder you are wearing a blanket, Cigar…Just checked the Lexington weather and it is a chilly 37 degrees right now. It’s 63 here. Stay warm, Zenyatta and Tasty.
Suzanne G (IL)
@Donna–would you post the link for the youtube horse slaughter video you mentioned? I’d like to try to send it to MSNBC too. Thanks.
Delrene from Carlsbad - (California)
Thanks for the link, I’m going to do it right after I am through with my little request. I have searched the internet and some of the training videos of Barn 55, but have not been able to find a picture of Cloudman. I would like to see him one more time. I was wondering, Dottie if it would not be too upsetting, if you wouldn’t mind posting a picture of Cloudman? In his passing, hopefully some good will come of it. If 100,000 Zenyatta fans oppose the horse slaughter bill I’m sure people will take notice. On a happier note, Z & Tasty I hope your days are happy and full of contentment.
We all love you so much.
Off to fight for equine rights.

My representative just got an ear full. They are all arrogant fools!

Wow. Cigar is right up front by the fence. Great webcam shot. Thanks for reminding me of the KHP live cam. Sweet dreams and peppermints to Zenyatta.

There! I have written to Barbara Boxer and Diane Feinstein a rather scathing letter “basically shame on them ” if this gets through. I said we were an equi-army of doing what is right” for our American horses….. and more actually. Like the other poster, probably will be investigated by FBI -as I promised I would do everything I could to vote them out of office….Good Luck. We all need to write our respective representatives. Thanks for the links and guidance.
PatB from NM
Wrote my rep and senators telling them to reverse the horse slaughter bill.
Love you always, Z

All: I also realize this is Zenny’s site so this is the last message I will post concerning this Horse Slaughter bill:
On November 18, 2011 President Obama signed this federal ag bill into law. Apparently it’s labeled as — U.S. Horse Processing.
What does that mean exactly? It means that horse slaughter plants could possibly reopen in the United States before the end of the year.
Angel Acres Horse Haven Rescue has a unique Anti Horse Slaughter Awareness Billboard Campaign. They have been very successful with putting billboards up on well traveled highways throughout the country. Please click on the links below to see how you can help. Time is of the essence:

@Sue Fredrick–you sre so welcome. Please keep us updated on Precious.
@All–now we are all aware of the evil that threatens our horses. Thank you all so much for writing and taking steps to save them. I have butted heads with one of our TX senators for months over this.
As I said the other day, I want them ALL to live in safety until they die naturally or in cases of irreparable illness, are humanely euthanized.
Rosemary McCauley - Southern California
I have also written to my representatives. What a shame/crime that this bill is even being considered! Shame on all of them!
Margie in So. Calif.
I’m doing my Zenny catch up and was so saddened by the news of Cloud Man’s passing. RIP, sweet boy, and to the others who left us in recent days. Condolences to all who loved them.
Zenny, I’m forever grateful to your Team for keeping you safe and fit. What a blessing, and it really hits you how much of a blessing when you hear these sad stories. Stay healthly and safe, have fun with your BFF Tasty, live the life you deserve and were given by such magnificent people. I love you always.
I’ll be out of touch for a couple of weeks, but I’ll be thinking about you as I do every single day. Oh boy, the catch up for two weeks will have me glued to my computer, but worth it! :-)
@JAG – was at my sister’s house (in Arcadia)recently and saw her John Henry framed and hanging portrait (and Zenny was next to him!). Thought of you.
@eastcoastkid -you’re a dynamo and a blessing to the horse, for sure.
Prayers for those who are facing challenges, and a High Hoof to those who have earned it, like our Zenyatta!
Rosemary McCauley - Southern California
@eastcoastkid – I typed in Senator Kohl on my search engine and was able to click on “Contact Senator Kohl.” A form comes up and you fill in your name, email, etc. The only choice for state is Wisconsin, so in the box for city, I also typed my state, and left the default to Wisconsin. I very bluntly told him that I would never shop Kohl’s again if this bill passes. I did not mention anyone’s name other than my own, and I did not mention this website.
Jeanie
So I have called our state Senators, Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein, and my Representative Doris Matsui. They all know I am very unhappy about this, that I consider the practice of horse slaughter to be unAmerican and barbaric and that if they value my vote, they will fix this problem and that I will be watching. I am also going to write to them on their websites.
Georgia Harper< Seattle, WA
I sent my message to the my representative and one to the white house. We can only hope to make a difference
Ingrid Arnone. South Beach.
I think Santa Anita is a beautiful place, love you Zenyatta.
@eastcoastkid, thanks for the info, my Rep. She is not a nice person but I will try. Ingrid.

I might be late to the party on this – sorry. I’ve been sick and just saw this. Zenyatta has over 94,000 fans. WE CAN STOP THIS FROM GOING FORWARD

I KNOW THAT THE GOOD PEOPLE HERE IN ZENNY’S GARDEN ARE AS UPSET AS ALL OF US ARE IN THE FIGHT AGAINST HORSE SLAUGHTER AND THE REESTABLISHMENT OF HORSE SLAUGHTER HOUSES IN THE USA. RIGHT HERE ON THESE PAGES ARE THOUSANDS OF THE STAUNCHEST DEFENDERS AND LOVERS OF HORSES. BECAUSE OF THE SERIOUSNESS OF THIS SITUATION, I HUMBLY SUBMIT THAT ZENYATTA/DOTTIE CONSIDER TAKING A STAND AGAINST IT.
The evil horse slaughter lobby is strongly funded with beef money and hunting money. So many truly great organizations have been fighting long and hard for the mustangs and against horse slaughter, period, and all of us are defeated by money and a vicious, evil woman who led the charge to kill kill kill and put horse meat on the table both here and abroad. Frankly, I’m watching to see what the large organizations are going to do to fight this, and then we all can jump in and support them because this mission is going to take all of us.
Meanwhile, it is all the more urgent to rescue as many horses as possible to give them life. People should give more to Marlene Dodge and to other major rescue groups who have solid records. If we just take this lying down and let the evil side leave tire tread marks all over our faces, then it wins some more. We have to develop strategies that will stall this menace and save as many horses as possible.
When I first started working in the animal rights movement in 1981, there was always talk about all the organizations creating a governing body that would distribute donations evenly to all groups, etc. Obviously, it never happened. So we are still just individual groups—no one center of gravity. We need to swing a lot of weight now against these heartless people, and the only thing that will not cost us a thing is major media stories—television, cable, major newspapers and magazines. Forbes has started a three-part story exposing TB slaughter…we need every media outlet we can reach to publish, to send investigative reporters…we need the right kind of publicity and plenty of it. No time left to ruminate—we must act, and the pursuit of media support is our best hope right now.
And again, we must consider encouraging people to give to rescue groups to give the gift of life to horses—as many as can be saved. Christmas is coming—instead of gifts, send donations to good rescue groups in the person’s name and give him or her a video or two of what we are fighting for.
It is hoped that this site, where there are thousands of people who speak or just lurk, can get a major offensive going. This has got to fall under Zenny’s aegis—she epitomizes greatness in horses and is, frankly, our leader, through Dottie. Rachel Alexandra has been posting against it and it is my humble opinion that Zenny has to step up and make a statement and muster her thousands of troops who would do anything for her. The other side has just started WWIII against horses, and that’s so serious that we have to turn to the greatest treasure and force we have–Zenyatta. She should foster giving donations to rescue groups for Christmas and Hanukkah…other than buying for children, I think we adults can do without holiday gifts this year, yes?
I am open to any other suggestions. We have to fight this together. I wouldn’t ask Zenny to do anything–not in a thousand years–except to stay healthy and happy and give us joy at every turn. But this situation is so serious, I believe we have no choice. I love and respect Zenyatta more than any will know, and I turn to her now in the most desperate of times. I mean no disrespect, but my mind and heart are filled with the slaughterhouse images I have seen on many films recently. Our horses need us.

I had this poem emailed to me and not only do I apply it to my dogs, I apply it to my horses as well. There was just a new Kohl’s opened near my Mom’s. Won’t be going there. GRRRRR. I have 14 and am unemployed and I find a way. Folks need to get with the program. There are other ways. The powers that be would just rather pay lip service than find a real solution!
this is the poem. It leaves alot happier feelings:
The purpose of a dog!
A Dog’s Purpose? (from a 6-year-old).
Being a veterinarian, I had been called to examine a ten-year-old Irish Wolfhound named Belker. The dog’s owners, Ron, his wife Lisa, and their little boy Shane, were all very attached to Belker, and they were hoping for a miracle.
I examined Belker and found he was dying of cancer. I told the family we couldn’t do anything for Belker, and offered to perform the euthanasia procedure for the old dog in their home.
As we made arrangements, Ron and Lisa told me they thought it would be good for six-year-old Shane to observe the procedure. They felt as though Shane might learn something from the experience.
The next day, I felt the familiar catch in my throat as Belker ‘s family surrounded him. Shane seemed so calm, petting the old dog for the last time, that I wondered if he understood what was going on. Within a few minutes, Belker slipped peacefully away.
The little boy seemed to accept Belker’s transition without any difficulty or confusion. We sat together for a while after Belker’s Death, wondering aloud about the sad fact that animal lives are shorter than human lives.
Shane, who had been listening quietly, piped up, ”I know why.”
Startled, we all turned to him. What came out of his mouth next stunned me. I’d never heard a more comforting explanation. It has changed the way I try and live.
He said,”People are born so that they can learn how to live a good life — like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right?” The Six-year-old continued,
”Well, dogs already know how to do that, so they don’t have to stay as long.”
Live simply.
Love generously.
Care deeply.
Speak kindly.
Remember, if a dog was the teacher you would learn things like:
When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.
Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride.
Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure Ecstasy.
Take naps.
Stretch before rising.
Run, romp, and play daily.
Thrive on attention and let people touch you.
Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.
On warm days, stop to lie on your back on the grass.
On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree.
When you’re happy, dance around and wag your entire body.
Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.
Be loyal.
Never pretend to be something you’re not.
If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.
When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by, and nuzzle them gently.
ENJOY EVERY MOMENT OF EVERY DAY!
Lisa in TN
story not poem, sorry.

WE ARE THEIR VOICES ~ OUTRAGED!!!
Brenda S..Ontario, Canada
Dear Zenny, I hope you have been warm and toasty today, that you and Tasty had nice warm sweaters when you went out. I’m so looking forward to seeing Santa Anita in 2012 and I’m sure that lots of videos of YOU will be shown on the new screens.
I have sent an e-mail to President Obama expressing my shock that he has signed the disgusting bill and asking him to reconsider. I sent a letter to Prime Minister Harper a few months ago, asking that he close down the slaughter houses in Canada and so I’m amazed that the US is now reinstating this disgusting practice. I am asking my daughter to contact her representatives in Maine and my friend in Michigan to do the same. What a nightmare this is!!
