Good Morning,
This is SO EXCITING! I am hearing from quite a few people that the TOM MANKIEWICZ CAROUSEL…which I am a part of….at the Los Angeles Zoo is quite a success. Several friends have sent Dottie emails stating they have already been out to see it…and ride ME! A special fan, Judy Gadwood, organized a recent trip to the Zoo and several of my dear friends joined her in the fun! From all reports, they had a GREAT TIME!
A few of them decided it would be rather fun to do a MIKIE impression while riding ME! Here’s TROTT volunteer, Delia St. Pierre, revisiting a MIKE MOMENT that was very special to ME in my life-time!
I can’t tell you how wonderful this makes ME feel. This carousel is hoping to ‘really make a difference at the Zoo’ and help raise funds to aid in the care and maintenance of all of the other animal exhibits. I feel so grateful to be a part of this.
I’m also so excited….YOU are having fun riding ME!
I have so much to be grateful and thankful for in my life. This is the season to reflect on all of these things….and I so appreciate ALL of the LOVE, KINDNESS, THOUGHTFULNESS, and SUPPORT you have given to ME each day.
If you are traveling for the holiday, BE SAFE! If you are staying at home, enjoy each moment!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

It was a year ago this morning that I went to visit you at Barn 55 at Hollywood Park. I will never forget it! My life has changed since that day! Thanks for the inspiration! It’s so great to keep up with you through this diary (thanks, Dottie!), and it is especially great to see you growing big, happy, and munching on Kentucky bluegrass! I hope I get to visit you again sometime! And since the Breeders Cup will be at Santa Anita next year, I can’t wait to go to your party, and to watch the live feed of you and your foal! What a momma you will be!

Your fans are going to “wear out” your carousel horse! Love you pretty girl.

A Belated Happy Birthday Poem for Sarah Campion
(November 2011)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dearest Sarah,
We’re always delighted to see
Your lovely photos of Z,
The finest horse of our era.
In your portraits we see
Z’s happy as can be
And getting the best of care.
It’s so nice of you with us to share
Lots
Of your shots
Of this marvelous mare.
We thank you from the heart
For doing so much
To keep us in touch
As if we ourselves were there
And for your part
In Z’s care.
For your birthday,
We belatedly say
We’re glad you could celebrate
The date
With your Lane’s End
Friends
And your family.
We hope it was great,
And may you have many, many more
Splendid birthdays in store!
Happy belated birthday and happy Thanksgiving!
Cheryl
Thanks to Judy for sharing the photos…they are “Too Cute” to take the words from our Queen. We hope everyone who visits here has a blessed Thanksgiving. Although our world sometimes seems to be in turmoil we have much to be thankful for. Special thanks to all of Z’s connections in CA and LE who are celebrating the holiday with friends and family. Hi Z, We humans will be stuffing ourselves with all kinds of great food and loads of deserts.
There is never enough whip cream… I think along with your sensible diet tomorrow you should have a few of your favorite peppermints. After all it is Thanksgiving Day. We are very thankful for all we have and especially that GOD our Father made YOU!!! Love you bunches
This litany has been printed in our Thanksgiving bulletin for many years, and my tears well up each time we read it together. Our pastor finally tracked down the author, the Rev. Louis Lotz, pastor of Central Reformed Church in Grand Rapids, MI. I think it is wonderful and wanted to share it with you all in recognition of this season of gratitude. I think everyone can relate to the words, whatever our faith background. I hope I do not offend anyone with these honest sentiments. Happy Thanksgiving to all who visit this site —-
Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the lands! Serve the Lord with gladness! Come into His presence with singing!
For all the times we laughed till our sides ached; for all the times we were troubled, and friends we didn’t even know we had sprang up from nowhere and ministered to us; for all the times we could have chosen evil over good, but didn’t; for all the times we could have been hurt, but weren’t; for all the times we could have died suddenly and unprepared, but didn’t; and for what would have awaited us even if we did; O Lord, we thank You.
Know that the Lord is God! It is He that made us, and we are His; we are His people, and the sheep of His pasture.
For the sheer wonder of our creation, preservation, and redemption; for the privilege of prayer, the gift of the Spirit; and the gifts of the Spirit; for the everlasting arms beneath us, the watchful eye above us, the friends around us, and the trust within us; O Lord, we thank You.
Enter His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise! Give thanks to Him, bless His name!
For our churches, and all things good and godly they have done and been; for all their saints whom we have laid to rest, and for their little children who shall one day lay our bodies to rest and carry in our stead; O Lord, we thank You.
For the Lord is good.
For seedtime and harvest and food enough; for every good night’s sleep and every good day’s work, every good friend and every grand sunset; for warm memories of the past, and promise of an eternal tomorrow; for eyes to see beauty, ears to hear a bird’s songs, hands to hold someone else’s hands, and for someone else’s hands to hold; O Lord we thank You.
His steadfast love endures forever and His faithfulness to all generations.
For all persons whose love for us is unconditional, and in whose presence we can drop all pretense, be ourselves, and know that we shall be accepted; for the one who calls us long distance, and the one who calls us darling, and the one who calls us Dad or Mom, and for the One who shall one day call us into eternity; O Lord, we thank You.
What shall I render unto the Lord for all His bounty unto me?
I will offer unto Him the sacrifice of thanksgiving. Amen.
The carousel Zenyatta weras a saddle blanket with the #4, but it is pink. I thought #4 was yellow and #8 was pink. Am I wrong? (OMG what a concept, me being wrong LOL) Does anyone have an answer?
Dear Zenyatta. What fun!!!! Wish I could have been there to join in! So happy JAG shared her pictures with you Zenny, you look beautiful and the ladies smiles are worth a thousand words! I wonder if they were picturing images of you and the ground racing by from Mike’s live jockey cam when they were on your back? They certainly are TOO CUTE, repeating some of his moves after you wins. The carousel is obviously not only going to be a blast, but what a fantastic way to help raise funds to aid others! Tomorrow is a special day, Zenny. It is Thanksgiving, a time when we pause in our hectic lives and give thanks for our many blessings. We humans all have trials and tribulations that often touch our lives. Much like a storm that rolls down the mountain side, they bring a gray cloud to hang over us. But, the one certainty is that the sun will shine again. If we trust, there will be a better day, the clouds will part and we will once again bask in the warmth of its rays. This is the best time for rainbows, Zenny. In the sun kissed mist after the storm they make their appearance, a symbol of joy and triumph. There is a time in your life when this is particularly evident. The time was the weekend of Breeder’s Cup 2010. At the Classic, it was strange to see you arrive in the darkness under the lights, the shadows played, reflecting black to white. You danced into the paddock and on to the track as you always did, cheered by the faithful there to see you win. You ran your heart out, as you always did, but on that day there was no winner’s circle. Covered in dirt and somewhat bewildered you were led away and hearts were broken. The next morning, contrary to our feelings, the sun did come out again and there for all of us to see against a gray chain link fence, a rainbow appeared; a rainbow of people. Purple shirts, blue pants, red scarves, green jackets, golden blonds and burgundy brunettes, male and female, young and old; brightly shining. Love for you provided the light and the glow which shown was from within. They were there not in sorrow, but in celebration! We who are a part of your life all know what happened next. From that moment, your story continued joyfully forward, touching thousands of hearts and reminding us to be thankful each day for the small things as well as the large. Just like you, we cannot know what our journey has in store for us. If we are open to receive them, however, wonders can brighten our good days and miracles can bless us when we are in need. We have only to believe. So, sweet Zenyatta, I am thankful for you and for Dottie and John and Ann and Jerry and Mike and everyone at Barn 55 and Lane’s End. I am thankful for this special place and my amazing Z friends, who continue to share their love, knowledge, humor and support with me. I am thankful for my loved ones, my family and furry kids. I am thankful that I am able to give to others, for this is perhaps the greatest of blessings. So many things to be grateful for. I am wishing a very Happy Thanksgiving to all!!!! May your journeys be safe and your holidays bright. Keep looking for those rainbows; you never know when one may appear. God bless! Love to you, Zenny. Sweet dreams. Hugs and kisses. XXXOOO
Dear Zenny and Dottie,
Thanks so much for sharing these photos, how much fun and joy you bring to others lives and so very happy that you are safe and happy at LE. Soon to be a mom. Have a great Turkey day, not sure if you will get to share in any of the “food”, but maybe if it is in a broodmare’s diet. Don’t forget to do your voluntary exercise with TT, maybe you could rerun your maiden with her. XXXXXOOOO
