Happy Friday Everyone!
As we were walking in our paddock the other day, TASTY and I had a wonderful chat. We both decided that we LOOK pretty terrific for being
several months in foal. Our baby bumps are approximately the same size. Dottie was doing a pretty thorough comparison of each of our tummies when she was here the other day. Since our last breeding date is exactly the same….this is positive news! TASTY and I really have so much in common. It is great to have her as a paddock mate and a very dear friend.
The November Sale at Keeneland is progressing in a very solid manner with strong prices. On a personal note, I have been following the sales of BERNIE’S weanlings. His babies have been very popular and sold very well. It is great to see this! Additionally, DARLEY recently announced their stud fees for the upcoming 2012 Breeding Season, and BERNIE’S is going to double from $75,000 to $150,000 stand and nurse. So far this year, BERNIE’s progeny has earned over $5,000,000 in purses. This makes him the leader in the second-crop sires’ list for 2011. I’m so proud of you, BERNIE!
Hollywood Park opened yesterday for their fall season. The TURF FESTIVAL, which takes place during Thanksgiving Weekend, will be one of the highlights of their meet. Additionally, several two year old stakes including the CASH CALL FUTURITY-Grade 1 and the HOLLYWOOD STARLET-G1 will also make this meet special. These races provide us with the opportunity to become familiar with some of the promising young horses, 2 year olds–turning 3 on January 1st, currently developing on the West Coast.
At Churchill, there is discussion that Drosselmeyer may run around Thanksgiving in the Grade 1 CLARK HANDICAP as well as next year. The
original plan to ‘retire him to stud in New York’ looks to be ‘on hold’ for awhile. I love to see horses who run at the top levels continue to compete. It all adds to the excitement of a sport we all love!
In New York, the CIGAR MILE at Aqueduct is one of their premiere races in November. They, too, have a very good Thanksgiving of racing planned with stakes for 2 year olds as well as the GO FOR WAND and the GAZELLE.
On top of all this, the FAIRGROUNDS opens in Louisiana for their meet also around Thanksgiving and it runs until my birthday, April 1st.
So many races to ponder, and so many fun handicapping experiences for us all to enjoy!
Have a wonderful weekend…and here’s wishing you a terrific NOVEMBER!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

@JAG, was just going to share my story of meeting John Henry that I thought you micht enjoy reading. A year before he died I got to see him at the Kentucky Horse Park. It was a last minute decision to go there that day but I wanted to see him and Cigar but was running out of time that day and it was really bad weather. Real Bad, raining really bad, but stopping at times. I was with my brother and told him that I really wanted to go there before heading home. Anyway I did go and ended up literally running over to the Hall of champions for the 3 oclock show. I just made it there, Well I went over to the stall where John Henry was it was a pretty big stall, lots of people around but not to many for me to see him good. lots of people in the stall with him, (have to set the scene) It was thundering like crazy outside and Lightning badly.) We also got stuck there couldn’t leave for a while, because of the weather. Anyway I was there looking in to see him and one of his handlers was right close to me, she was on the inside with him. I asked her how was he doing and she said well pretty good for his age, Well John Henry Had his head up in the corner of the four cornered stall with his rear sticking out and the expressionon his face was like just Yeah you come near me and Your going to get kicked. He was looking around all the time sseing if anyone was tring to get near him. i asked the lady what was wrong and she told me that he hated , Hated Bad Weather and they were trying to get him to go out. Well, he was having none of that. I said to myself you go boy, show them who’s the boss. This was just Tooo cute, He was just aiming to kick em. He still hadn’t gone out when i left.Just wanted to share this with you. It was an adorable scene that day. He was the boss. I was just kind of mad that they were trying to get him to go out. He did seem very scared. blessings Peggy Hope you can read this fast typing.

Thank you for sharing your John Henry story. He was quite a character. He knew what he wanted and when he wanted it… You know they built that window to the tack room years ago just for HIM! He liked to listen through it, too. Smart, smart, smart ~ just like Zenyatta :-) Just totally different temprements :-P

Hey Zenyatta!…is one of those horses that we can get “familiar” with Eblouissante?! ;-) We’ll be making quite a few of the races at Hollywood Park! Be sure and have Dottie let us know whenever Eblouissante is ready and when she’ll be racing!

Have a wonderful day Zenyatta and baby “Z”!

@Peggy – I have had a wonderful dinner and Lady & Sons – very good and the Key Lime Pie was out of this world. A pretty city to visit – Was there about 10 years ago in the late fall. Still warm and too humid for my taste.
To all in Zenny’s world a most joyful weekend and a two kisses on you soft nose.

@Susan in TN: Cracked me up you laughing at yourself. So to get us all back on schedule in Terry’s absence:
You might be a California Redneck if your mama has a handbag made from something your daddy stole at the Aligator Farm.
You might be a California Redneck if your mama made Sunday dinner with something your daddy stole from the Aligator Farm.
You might be an Arizona Redneck if your kid’s pet bird is a Turkey Vulture.

@Diana S – Thanks for the redneck jokes! I’m way behind on joke production this week (Terry C., are you STILL on walkabout?), muchly due to a toothache which doesn’t hurt now, but for which I’m on meds for a few more days.
You might be a redneck if when you ride Zenyatta at the Carousel, you wave your cowboy hat like you are riding a bucking bronc. You might be a redneck if you refer to your computer mouse as a “critter”, or you think a ‘cursor’ is someone who swears a lot. You might be a redneck if you keep a can of Raid on the kitchen table. You might be a redneck if your masseuse uses lard. You might be a redneck if your wife keeps a can of Vienna sausage in her purse.

Zenny, what a wonderful picture. You and TT look fabulous. What beautiful surroundings. Stay well my precious. Love always.

@Judy B. – Glad to see you are hanging in there, and I hope Russ is doing well.
@all – Some might find it interesting, that genetic analysis shows horses in the last ice-age had leopard-like markings, and the mutation wasn’t rare: http://articles.latimes.com/2011/nov/08/science/la-sci-ancient-horse-20111108

Love the photo of you and Tasty! More importantly, THANK YOU for offering Jaime Corum’s The Queen’s Dance for purchase! I just ordered the foil stamped print and can’t wait to display it. The only thing that would make the print even more special is if you signed it too (like the Moneighs). Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

Happy Saturday Zenny, I do hope it’s a bit milder in Lexington than it is in Fort Erie, quite a brisk wind today so it feels colder. I’m sure that Matt put your sweaters on for you and Tasty. Is Matt Tasty’s helper?? I’m so glad that you have a Canadian bred as your best friend. Safe trips to all today.

My only hope for the new store is that you sell the Zentatta Way street sign.
Come to think of it I took pictures of it last year–if need be I could make a big poster of it for my home…

Oh one thing about the movie War Horse–the ball cap shows a horse on it. That horse is a former race horse–something Jag.
Jag was adopted by Wendy and lived in Michigan I believe. Much loved and cared for. There was a hugely funny video she did of him running, bucking, rearing, farting and jumping.
Sadly Jag had to be put down because of a bad paddock accident.
Funny enough a lady in England was drawing pictures of Jag not realizing his story. She just loved the horse. It was her drawings that drew the writers to her.
We don’t know yet if Jag’s likeness will be in the movie but gosh it sure would be nice.
I’ll see if I can find Wendy’s fb page and send you a link. You can ask her all the questions about her beautiful black horse.

Fans of Z’s pal TT: Here is a link to a video of Tasty Temptation winning at Woodbine. She seems to have Z’s style of coming from behind to win. There are some very nice shots of her.

There was a race horse named BIG JAG:
http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/big+jag
Could this be the horse you are referring to?
He was a horse I watched during his racing career because of his name :-)
Cynthia/Where Zenyatta Danced
I could be wrong, but I seem to remember that BIG JAG wa trained by Clay Brinson, brother of Gary (Hollywood Park starter).
