Good Morning,
It is so hard to believe that another year has passed and Breeders’ Cup 2011 is now over! It is amazing how quickly the horses leave to return to their home bases. I know my pals, HARMONIOUS and MR. COMMONS, returned to BARN 55 the very next day.
It is quite interesting how the flights are scheduled and coordinated. The horse division of the Louisville Airport is very close to Churchill Downs.
My two BARN 55 pals and several other horses returning to California left the Churchill barn area Sunday morning by van around 4 a.m. for their flight. Their Tex Sutton Flight was scheduled to land at Ontario Airport in Southern California…also a special area that is meant for horse planes. The vans then pick up the horses from the plane and return them to their respective barns. The flight takes approximately 4 hours…give or take some time depending on weather conditions etc.
The Sutton Plane then turned around and returned to Louisville to pick-up the next load of horses. They will return to their home bases. I think the next load was going to New York.
When a horse travels like this, he / she must have all of the proper paperwork for safety procautions. Each horse MUST HAVE a current Coggins and also a health certificate stating exactly where the horse is leaving from and the exact destination.
A Coggins is a blood test that checks for antibodies to equine infectious anemia (EIA), a disease that affects horses worldwide. It is a viral disease that has no cure or vaccine for prevention. That is why it is SO IMPORTANT to test for it. Blood is drawn from the horse for the test and sent to a lab for testing to see if these EIA antibodies are present. You want the results to come back NEGATIVE!
Many states require a Coggins to be done once a year. California and other states require this to be done every 6 months. All horses sold at public auction must have one that is no more than 6 months old. The sales company determines this time frame for each sale.
A Coggins is one of the very important things that the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT requires to document that a horse is negative for equine infectious anemia (EIA). As mentioned above, it must accompany the health certificate when a horse is traveling from state to state. It is mandatory by law.
ALL of this is done to protect the horse. It is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT!
Several of the horses who competed in this year’s Breeders’ Cup did not return to their barns….they were retired! GOLDIKOVA is going to become a broodmare…just like ME! GIO PONTI, COURT VISION and DROSSELMEYER are going off to stud. I’d like to wish all of these horses and all others who are retiring a very healthy and happy 2nd career! From my personal experience, I can say that life at the farm is great FUN and this 2nd career aspect of one’s life is quite intriguing.
With Love,
Hugs to All~(Hollywood Park opens their fall meet today! Good luck to ALL!)

@Margaret – Thank you for letting us know the poster is available. I didn’t see the other item with the autographs. I ordered the poster. I’ll go back and look for the other item. I hope there will be jewelry items and the Zenyatta Way street sign available. I’m in trouble now, I just want everything.

E I A is also known as swamp fever. You may have read about it in one of Walter Farley’s books.
There is NO CURE for swamp fever. Your choices are extremely limited if your horse comes up positive. You can put the horse down or you can send him to a special farm where they quarantine these horses.
You can’t keep him at home! Even quarantined!
There is good reason to use vaccines and to test in this case.

Bernie will stand for $150,000 in 2012 and
Loner for $30,000; guess the Shiek want to keep
A bargain price on Lonhro to boost his book.
Maybe Bernie will get a littl break with the higher
Fee. He has already had a book of really great mares.

@The Kennedys
Politics to get Lonhro a good book since his fee is
$30,000. Raise Bernie and less will go to him. Bernie
Has had a book of awesome mares since he started standing.

I just had to order your poster, Zenyatta! It captures you so perfectly and it’s my Christmas gift to me this year. What a beauty you are.

Bernies success is measured in the success of his
Runners not who he is bred to. Street Cry went to
The top of the chart with Zenny’s success. Bernie has a
Lot of very successful runners. Despite all the criticism
Of Stay Thirsty’s running style he is one of Bernies most
Successful son.

Gosh I just love it-it is so interesting and informative here in your diary Zenyatta, I learn so much about the horse racing world from you and Dottie of course. Thanks, like I said, it is quite interesting.
Enjoy the pics too, especially of Gio Ponti, sure going to miss him, have always liked him. Hope that he enjoys his retirement and that he gets alot of love and attention like you do Zenyatta, he sure deserves it for sure.
Remember you are in my prayers always sweetie. My Love & Blessings to you always

I was quoting Eric regarding his search for a Grand Prix
Horse from the articles posted. He did not mention
The mare, but she sounds like a talent. There is always Saphire
An awesome Grand Prix jumping Mare. She is absolutely
Fantastic, but from the US.

I was kidding about Rapid Redux getting HOY.
He is a blue collar success. With the colt situation for
HOY I think the talking heads have brought him up.
Not sure why Eclipse folks would recognize RR???
He may set history in numbers, which is so very awesome
for him. He is a gritty determined blue collar guy. Just
Love to watch him run. Now the others are coming after
Him.

Hi, Zenny. I’m just arriving at #375 now, so I’ll post again later.
@Kari Bussell—I heard on the TV this morning that today is “Forget-me-not” Day, and you were the very first person I thought of to let know that you are not forgotten and never will be.
@Zenny—re my comment above to Kari: You were the second! But I’m sure you know you’ll never be forgotten…

Thanks to all who are joining us in lighting gratefulness candles and keeping them burning bright for Kari Bussell, our sweet and brilliant maker of video tributes to Z (under the name AnimalsRock4Love), who is not only battling cancer but was also seriously injured recently in a car accident. For those who would like to join us, the group name is KARI. Please relight your candle every 48 hours. http://www.gratefulness.org/candles/candles.cfm?l=eng&gi=KARI

Good evening Zenyatta,
as always what a great entry, and great pics. I belive Gio Ponti has his eyes closed, sunshine on his face is all nirvana to him. Yes, I am glad your VIPs have thought ahead and made excellent provisions for you. You are one lucky horse.
BTW Billy Chrystal is hosting the Oscars, this one I’ll definitely watch.
Have a restful sleep and dream sweet

Another information filled entry and comments. This site is perpetual motion personified. If Zenyatta were president/queen and all here were her citizens/subjects there would be researchers, educators, soul soothers, thinkers, questioners, entertainers, young, older and inbetween. Zenyatta Land is a beautiful nation of caring, sharing hearts in perpetual motion.

@Especially Horses…Happy Birthday! Hope you have a wonderful evening here in San Diego!
I have to agree on HDG, but also am a huge fan of Acclimation, since seeing him a couple of times at Del Mar.
Hope to get up to Hollywood park in the next few week, love the history of the place and it will alway hold a special place because it is the first place I saw Zenny and the last, at her farewell.
@Kari..you are in my prayers!!
Sweet dream everyone and big hugs to the queen.

@Dawn Conrad/Colorado- Thank you for the “yippee” it made me smile. I appreciate it.
@Delrene- I really enjoyed the video of Blind Luck you provided yesterday. I was looking at my screen chanting, “you go girl”. I don’t want to drag anything out, but her circumstance has been so murky to me that it looked like she was kicking free.
@ All- Has anyone seen any news about what Shackleford will be doing going forward?
