Good Morning,
There is always so much going on in our industry! That is what makes it such a fascinating sport! On Sunday evening, Fasig Tipton had their select sale. Horses of quality…both in race record and pedigree sold extremely well.
Then on Monday, the Keeneland November Sale began. The first 2 days have been amazing. If you want to review all of the prices and horses sold, please go to KEENELAND website. Click on SALES….and then the heading for CURRENT SALE. You will be able to see the results. They are also showing the sale as it is taking place live, if you’d like to see that as well. It is all quite interesting.
On a personal note, the TOO CUTE part of the last few days is that MY JOHN got to see 2 of my family members at different stages of their development. In the above photo, my yearling 1/2 sister by Henrythenavigator is just beginning to learn to take direction….to turn to the left…..and then turn to the right. Every single part of this learning process is extremely important. One step builds upon another until a horse is ready to get a rider on it’s back and go to the training track. These detailed steps are all part of the early stages of the ‘breaking process’. Patience is so important and each day a step forward is hopefully taken.
The other family member, my weanling 1/2 sister also by Henrythenavigator, sold on Monday at the Keeneland Sale. She is now several months old….and to quote MY JOHN….quite good looking! Since he knows ME so well and now spends so much time with EBLOUISSANTE, he loves to see how the entire family is developing. I think he sees so many family traits in all of us: strong hind quarters, adorable ‘inquisitive ears’, and good bone structure!
The weanling was HIP 36 and sold to Adena Springs Farm for $1,500,000 Dollars. John tried to capture the video of her selling in the ring for you. Here’s the video.
Hmm! I must say, my family is TOO CUTE! It is great fun keeping up with all of them and their progress! I wonder what these 2 fillies will be named by their owners?
Have a wonderful Wednesday!
With Love,
Hugs to All~
Z
Oh, by the way, so many of you asked about my poster of the Jaime Corum painting. The final details for my new SHOP are just getting completed. The link to purchase this poster will be available by the end of the week. It is really very special…if I say so myself! (Blush, Blush!)

Zenny, it seems as if your family is known for their good looks. We think it’s largely due to your gorgeous mom.
Thanks, John, for sharing the video with us.

hi Z! I love seeing YOUR family members and hearing about them, thanks for sharing! I can’t wait to get a poster of the Corum painting of YOU!!! love YOU gorgeous mama xoxoxo
Janie (in L.A.)
Your sisters are adorable, Zenyatta – but how could they not be? What a bunch of cutie girls you all are!
@Nicole Tufano – thanks for posting the link to Hope for Horses. I made a small donation toward the baby’s care – wish I could send more, but every little bit helps.

Hi Zenny: How are you doing? You’re probably relaxing after your big party. I am sure you’re exhausted with all the excitement! I hope the weather in Ky is as nice as it is today in NJ. Many thanks to You, Your John and Dottie for today’s very interesting post. Your little weanling half-sister is adorable. I thought she might be around 9 months old. She’s not so little. She appears very alert and seems very calm and looks very sweet. Her black legs give her a special uniqueness. I hope she goes to Barn 55. Wouldn’t that be something!
@The Kennedys in San Diego — hope all is well with you. Thanks for the update on Mucho Macho Man. I hope his trainer paces the races this season. Seems like his schedule this past season was a bit much. I hope Animal Kingdom returns to the track soon.
dunie
Cute she truly is. But, you are the cutest of them all, Zenny!

Sitting here devastated over the news of Hickstead… I think I’m as shocked as when I heard of the death of the amazing Teddy O’Connor several years ago.
But to comment on this wonderful diary entry… I love seeing all of Zenny’s relatives. The little girl in the ring at Keeneland is just gorgeous, and the light and dark in her mane and forelock is so unusual and very pretty. I gasped at the $1,500,000 price she went for!
Thanks to Dottie for her absolutely fascinating and informative entries on Zenny’s behalf, and to John for his wonderful video and still camera work. You have both broadened my horse world so much and I learn something new every time I visit here (which is nearly every day). You guys are the absolute BEST!

Someone mentioned that YOUR mom has had a lot of fillies; I wonder if YOUR foal will be a colt or a filly? Can’t wait to find out! When I was watching the Breeders’ Cup coverage, and they showed the footage of mares and foals playing, my first thought was “It won’t be long before Zenny has a baby to play with!” Those will be photos we all want to see!
I think I am going to have to send a link to your STORE to my family and friends with a “wish list” for the holidays :)
I am working on a new fundraising product for The Second Race (www.thesecondrace.com)that involves YOU. I hope to be finished laying it out soon … here’s a hint: it has photos of YOU and has to do with keeping track of important things.
How many horses/people are in your barn at Lane’s End? I am planning to send you some yummy Logan’s candy canes for Christmas and I want to make sure YOU have enought to share with everyone!

Zenyatta,
You sure have a good looking family. I thought your 1/2 sister at the auction was going to do a dance step at one point there. ;) WOW! A Zenyatta shop. Look out
Rodeo Drive…;) Thanks all for the info on the beginning training of the horses. MMM was great. Stay healthy and happy Big Beautiful Mama.

@Linda in NJ — Hope your post-surgical recovery is going well. We are looking forward to seeing you again in CA next year.

Thank goodness!! One of my favs, Gio Ponti, will be retired to Castleton Lyons where he was bred and raised!! I love GP and his 5 year career has been amazing. He ran into Zenyatta and Goldi in his career and tried his heart out against those fabulous mares. I hope I get to visit him someday and tell him how much I looked forward to his races.

Dear Zenyatta. What a wonderful family you have, beautiful!! I just love your dam, she brings so much of herself to her foals. Then she has been breed to some outstanding stallions and they share the best of themselves as well. There is certainly a WOW factor whenever your name is mentioned as a relative!! Your weanling 1/2 sister was so lovely. As John would say, she was bright, watching everything that was going on around her, ears playing a little prance here and there. Lovely!! Please thank John for sharing the video. Your yearling 1/2 sister almost looks like she is a little sleepy in the sunshine. Calm and relaxed about her lessons. In the picture she looks short coupled, not as leggy and check out those powerful hips. Patience around horses is certainly an important part of the formula for success. I was at one of the breeding farms and was talking to a groom. He was saying that when working with stallions, a good groom had to know how to be patient and pay attention at all times. If you ever started to try to force a stallion you were looking for trouble as they are much larger and stronger than any groom. You had to kindly earn their trust and respect by your actions. He began to laugh at one point as he said that stallions can be very smart and they have all day to stand in their stalls and think about revenge if they did not like you. Thank you again for sharing such great information with us. I am so excited about the release of your majestic print for sale. I am ready to shop till I drop!! Wishing you and TT a wonderful day. Sweet dreams. Hugs and kisses. XXXOOO
@Kari Bussell – Love and prayers coming to you!!
@LouAnn Cingel – How are you? You are always in my thoughts and prayers!
@Karen and Cynthia – My thoughts are with both of you as well. It is so painful to a tender heart to see a friend hurt or in need. But, I know that Kari is lucky to have two such amazing women in her corner. All of you sharing your strength and love is a gift.
@Rosemary McCauley – Thank you for your description of the starting of yearlings. That had to be amazing working so closly with the young ones and seeing them grow and develope. Knowing you teaching help set them on the right path.
@Carolyn Caswell-Brown – I am so sorry to hear about your beautiful Sheba. That is always the hardest part about loving our pets is that their life span tells us that we will lose them, but oh the love we share for the years we have is always worth the coming sadness. There is no down side to living and loving together!
Barbara Wood (Texas)
What precious young ones! I wish them all the best for long, happy, and SAFE lives.
@Sherry D W VA– you are SO right about training.
@Lynn Martin–great questions. Hope we get answers. If someone has laready posted, I must have missed it.
@Carolyn Caswell-Brown–my prayers for your hurting heart. We’ve missed you here. We lost our Golden years ago at age 10. What is it with all these dogs getting cancer anyway? It doesn’t seem that that used to happen years ago.
@judy berube–your friends here all miss you.
@Kari B.– praying for you.
@Diana S– where is she now? Things are getting very sedate here….just sayin’..
@Especially horses–happy birthday tomorrow!
@Janie in L.A.–are you talking about little Autumn? They are SO appreciative of small amounts ( mine are too) because they add up!
@Canadian Dumplings–Hickstead must have been something. Wish I had learned about him sooner. RIP, dear boy.

Hi sweet Z; Thank John for the Too Cute video of your weanling half-sis & pic of yearling 1/2 sis. It is amazing that a weanling is already trained to “stand” there during the bidding process. I just love reading & seeing pics on your post Z/D. I took pics of you Live on the Screen curious of your new stuffed Zenyatta horse & foal! You are adoreable. I just don’t know how to maneuver on the computer to get it on facebook etc to share. I need a class!! Perhaps others have posted it, I hope.
I have pics of your Z family too. I can not thank them enough and you for hosting such a fun party!! When I was thanking Ann for sharing Zenyatta with all of us, I also kiddingly stated that I hope she would not get carpel tunnel after signing all the autographs. She smiled, and responded, “Not at all, besides it is all about Zenyatta.” She is so kind and loves you so. I can not wait for your Zenyatta/foal stuffed animal to go on sale!! I NEED one. Where will we purchase; at your New Z shop?? (This is Too Cute) Love N kisses on your soft nose, one for baby z

Here is a video I made of Z’s weanling half sister by Henrythenavigator (full sister to the filly with the Western saddle at the top of the diary page) at the Keeneland barns the day before her auction: http://youtu.be/160rSatl8Zg

Let’s see, Zenyatta — Champion/Horse of the Year Thoroughbred race horse, dancer, broodmare, party planner, TB racing promoter, philanthropist, horticulturist/grounds keeper for Lane’s End, daily journalist, hair stylist, model for sculptors and painters …. and now business owner/executive with your new shop. WHAT A RESUME/CV! Ane we suspect you will add author (your autobiography) and actress (when the subsequent film is made).

Carolyn Caswell-Brown – So sorry to hear about the loss of Sheba. Lossing a companion (hate to call them pets) is never easy. The love you get from them & the love you give them is a special thing. Sheba will always be with you. ^-^
Sally B. (Wi)
@ Kari B. My prayers go out to you. Gee, I just read of your accident & sincerely wish a speedy recovery for you. You have so much on your plate, God be with you & bless you.
@Ann Marie, just a special HI to you. It was very enjoyable spending time with you at Z’s party. I bet Kari never came.
@Michele & your mom, thanks again for a Z picture of yours. Listening to your story of your winning bid & visiting Z was so so fun & pics oh so great to see!!
@All at the party; enjoyed chit chatting with you. FUN !

Zenny- both of your half-sisters are adorable! Please thank your John for the video of the younger sister selling at Keeneland. I thought she looked a lot like you at that age (from the one photo I’ve seen!) and had a very sweet demeanor. Your sister pictured above looks like a laid-back cow pony. Very cute! I can’t wait for YOUR SHOP to open! Hope it’s in time for the holiday season! I hope you and Tasty T have a wonderful day growing your Bumps. Love you, big girl <3

@Carolyn Caswell-Brown: I am so sorry for your loss. You must be heartbroken. When I lost Tiny, the Rainbow Bridge Facebook page helped me out- along with a LOT of support from my Z friends. Bless you <3
@our Canadian Z friends: What a shock to lose Hickstead like that- I have watched him and Eric (on TV) many times and admired their skill and teamwork. Poor Eric must still be in shock.
Rosemary McCauley - Southern California
@The Kennedys in San Diego – Perfect!
Janie (in L.A.)
@ Barbara Wood (Texas) – yes, baby Autumn is the baby horsie I was referring to in my post. Such a sad situation – I’m really pulling for her. I hope she can feel everyone’s love and good wishes.
Rosemary McCauley - Southern California
@Dawn Conrad – Thank you for your comment, and it was indeed very special to be a part of that and to see them perform as full fledged athletes was extra special.
Ingrid Arnone. South Beach.
OH! All your ½ sisters are so pretty I cannot wait to see them run, but you are the pretty’s of them all. Loves you Ingrid.

I think the yearling looks like a quarter horse with that western saddle and that huge round rump! The weanling sure has YOUR EARS! Beautiful fillies, both of them. Love the younger one’s manners in the sale ring. She seems so calm.
I hope the prints will be affordable for those of us who will never have $1.5 million to bid on a six month old filly.
I had $3000 in each of mine when they were born and that was a LOT for me. (I wouldn’t sell the older one for any amount of money now.)
Love the video of the sale. Helps us all to know more about what it’s like to be in the industry. I’ve always dreamed of owning a race horse but don’t think I’ll ever be able to swing it.

@The Kennedys: LOL!
@Mary Meek: Thanks for the video. That is a BIG little girl!
@Randy: Yes, Teddy O’Connor WAS amazing, wasn’t he?
@Especially Horses: Happy Birthday!
I’m not sure who said it (probably a lot of people), but it goes something like this: “If you are in a hurry with a horse, you better act like you have all day.”
Max
Zenyatta. Your sisters are lovely. However, in the beauty department, you are definitely the best.

@Kennedys, we think you got it right!
