Good Morning,
Happy November 1st! I hope all of you had a fun Halloween! I heard that my dear pal, SOPHIE SHIRREFFS, dressed up for the celebration. She wore a black and orange pumpkin costume as she helped Dottie hand out the candy. Sophie had a terrific time as she truly loves children and adored the ‘pats on the head and hugs’ she received from the trick-or-treaters. TOO CUTE!
My evening was rather relaxed here at Lane’s End. TASTY and I enjoyed our time together and the pleasant weather. Let’s hope it stays nice and dry this week for all of our Breeders’ Cup visitors and participants! So far, the weather reports look good! HOOVES CROSSED!
This morning several of the European horses were able to go to the track and stretch their legs. Here’s GOLDIKOVA on the right and directly behind her is SARAFINA. They are safely through their initial quarantine procedures. Now it is back to the track for all of these European horses to continue their daily training programs for the WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS.
The post positions were drawn yesterday and the fields are now set. The morning lines are published and the various talk programs and handicappers are reviewing the fields and studying the past performances. It was cool this morning, but as you can see in the photo the sun was trying to ‘peak through’.
My day started with visitors from TVG. They were teasing as I went out to the field and started to prance around that the main times they saw ME in the early morning was for their WORKS PROGRAM. That is the case with today’s visit as well. TVG is going to do a segment on prior BREEDERS’ CUP CLASSIC WINNERS….and I AM ONE. (YEAH!!) They wanted to include ME in their piece. TOO CUTE!
MY PARTY is really getting organized. We have some fabulous items for the SILENT AUCTION. I know Lane’s End sent some things of mine as a halter and shoe. Such fun! Friday is getting close! Oh, here comes Sarah with my afternoon schedule. Let’s see what other FUN THINGS I’m doing today.
Enjoy your day!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

@Trina Nagele & @Diana S – Good jokes yesterday! Today’s installment for our wandering Terry C.
You might be a redneck if your family tree has no forks. You might be a redneck if you stare at an orange juice container because it says, “CONCENTRATE”. You might be a redneck if fifth grade was the best six years of your life.

Love you, Zenyatta. Recorders will be whirring away this weekend. Can’t wait to see the TVG piece on you. Didn’t ESPN come to do an article on you also? I hope to see/read that also.

the Saturday Post has such a great article about Zenyatta’s run in the 2010 BC Classic. I VERY classy piece of writing. I would put a link here, but am too technolgically uninclined : ). Anyway, welcome Europeans, everyone be safe!

that would be “technologically”

I bet Sophie Shirreffs was adorable! Dressed as a pumpkin-talk about TOO CUTE! She also sounds like a sweetheart. My miniature schnauzer, Ralph, goes into the bark-o-matic mode around little children. Zenny can’t wait to see the TVG spot on you and all the others on Saturday. Wish I could be there Friday but I have to work. But I will be there in spirit. Have a great time, all of you who re able to go.
Barbara Wood (Texas)
@Dottie–I would have LOVED to have seen the ever-adorable Sophie playing hostess to the children who came by. We would love a picture.
@Vicki B–love your redneck jokes.
@DJ– as the time nears, and as our “chaplain”, could you do a special prayer for the horses and riders’ safety on Friday/Saturday? Many of us love them.
Good news about a “missing” Dumpling. Heard from Sarah Powell last night. She is fine–just busy with her horses. She has 11 rescue horses, some older with special needs, such as her Lady Rose who choked and is better now.
Speaking of missing Dumplings, has anyone heard from our Amanda Gilliland?
Have to go work on my post position chart.
@Kari Bussell, Terry Crow–we all miss you.

Zenyatta,
I bet Sophie looked so cute in her pumpkin costume. Only 3 days to the BC. Yes, it will never be the same without you, but it looks to be a exciting two days of racing. Stay healthy and happy Big Mama. xoxoxo.

Do you remember a colt named Mr. President that was in training with John in 2008? He’s my partner now! He is learning to jump, trail ride and maybe show some. I can’t say enough about him!

Can hardly wait for Fri. & Sat., but it just won’t be same without you. Zenyatta there will never be another horse like you. You are one in a million. Z, I hope you and Tasty have a good afternoon.

The Breeder’s Cup won’t be quite as exciting this year without the great Zenyatta. I remember my stomach being tied up in knots until the race was over. It is exciting to think about Havre de Grace running against the boys, but nothing like Zenny. You were-and still are–the greatest race horse that ever graced our sport!!
Laura
Zenyatta, anytime a girl trys to beat the males, I am always pulling for her :)Goldikova and Sarafina all the way :D (and any other female)

Hi Zenny: This is getting very exciting. TVG will have a special that includes you. You have a special drink in your honor. I am getting very excited. Please let us know when the TVG special will air. Hope you had a very nice day.

GOLDIKOVA! What a horse. I hope she does well this weekend. She’s been campaigning a long time.

Dear Great One,
I wish I could be at your party in person, but I will be there in spirit. I will be rooting for your “sisters” Harve de Grace and Goldikova, as well as all California horses and especially those ridden by your MIKEY and trained by your JOHN. I hope YOU have a wonderful weekend filled with visits from YOUR TEAM and that every participant has the chance to do their very best and come home safe and sound. I want to thank you for all you have done to elevate the status of the HORSE. I pray that this continues until every horse in the world is treated with the respect they deserve as man’s greatest helper. I was recently struck when the trainer of Tizway said, upon his sudden retirement, that if his progeny prove to be half the horse he was, they will be something very special. I think that certainly applies to YOU as well.
Your humble J

Zenny, Happy November right back at you! It doesn’t seem possible that it’s been a year since you were competing on the track.
How time has flown…now we have baby Z/B to look forward to. You are missed at the BC but hopefully all horses and riders will come home safe.

Happy November, Zenny. We all miss the excitement of seeing you run. Hope your weekend is great and you have a chance to see all of your CA team.

Sadly Synchronicity is a name already taken as per pedigreequery. But it’s a great start.
It may be we need to wait to see if we have a boy or girl and what markings they have. It may be that the Mosses want to name the first baby themselves or they’ll do a contest.
Margaret
Rats–sorry hit enter too soon.
I was going to add when choosing a name try for gender neutral–that way it won’t silly calling a boy Nancy or something.

Zenny!
You have a lot of funs in Russia!
We love U.

Hello, Zenyatta! Are you getting tired of people rubbing your belly yet? LOL I’m going to miss you on Saturday when I’m parked in my seats at Churchill watching the Classic! Can’t wait for the little one to come – hope the winter passes by fast and is an easy one here in KY. xoxoxo HUGS AND KISSES!

A very happy November to you Zenny, Tasty too. I so glad that the weather is good, no sloppy tracks or freezing dumplings. I have just told someone who phoned to make an appointment with Vic and I that there is absolutely no way we can meet this week and definitely not on Saturday afternoon, that nothing will get us out of the house when it’s Breeder’s Cup time. I’m not sure that she understood.

Hi, Zenny,
–
I’ve been busy getting ready to drive to Louisville for your party! Have been checking the weather, and it’s starting to look like it will be fairly nice. Not like last year when it was 35 degrees!!!

One of my favorite articles done about you is by Steve Haskin (he wrote quite a few about you, as you know!). This one had the title, “I Lied”, as he had written another one just previously, as well, thinking it might be his last with you as the subject. His columns about you always generated literally hundreds of comments! Average responses for his columns usually run around 50-60, however, stories about you never failed to bring 300-400 comments. The “I Lied” column generated 551 comments!!! Just amazing! Here is a link for anyone who would like to re-visit this beautiful, loving, sweet piece about his struggle with “Zenyatta withdrawal.” It touched a nerve with a lot of people, as I said, 551 people wrote to express how they would find it hard to not see you on the track, dear Queen Z!! The comments are beautiful, and I’ve spent many a happy time browsing and reading them. So, here is the link: http://cs.bloodhorse.com/blogs/horse-racing-steve-haskin/archive/2010/12/07/hangin-with-haskin-i-lied.aspx

I’m thinking you will be on the cover of the Breeders Cup 2012 Calendar (at least the number of votes you received seemed like you got the highest number…I think Tiznow was probably second), so am looking forward to the calendar being unveiled soon.

Big hugs, give baby bump a pat from me! Love you, Ann Maree

I’m so proud of Harve de Grace who is representing the girls in the Classic. She’s also representing Eight Belles (same owner and trainer) and her late sire, Saint Liam. Saint Liam won the Classic with Jerry Bailey as his rider. And he will be doing commentary for ABC and ESPN. Her sire’s breeder, Edward Evans, died last year. If ever a horse had help from those above it will be Grace.
And HdG will be receiving visitors on November 12, at The Vinery in Kentucky. It’s been announced at Rick Porter’s website: RockportHarbor.com .
Grace will be racing next year.
What a terrific time to be alive with all the dominant Girls Gone Wild (per Steve Haskin) LOL.
