Good Morning,
We have all had a day to review the Breeders’ Cup pre-entries and the anticipated fields. It will be very interesting to follow the cross-entered horses as they finalize their racing plans.
The next step in the ENTRY process for the Championship EVENTS will take place on October 31st. This is the day when the connections formally ENTER their horse for a specific race and the final fees are paid by the owner. Fourteen horses will be accepted for the BODY of each field and 2 also-eligibles…if the race is over-subscribed.
To quote the Breeders’ Cup Horsemens’ Information Guide on the final entry options which might be considered on this day, “A horse will be permitted to enter 2 Breeders’ Cup Championships races under the following conditions: (i) the horse is eligible for both races; (ii) the races will be contested on different days; (iii) the pre-entry and entry fees are paid for both races; and (iv) neither race is oversubscribed. A horse may not double-enter Breeders’ Cup Championships races if the effect of such double entry is to exclude another horse from competing. A horse entered in two Championship races on different days may not compete on both days.”
“Scratch time for all Championships races to be contested on both Championship Friday and Championship Saturday will be 8:00 a.m. (EDT, Friday, November 4, 2011.”
Thus, a horse like GIO PONTI will have to decide the race he is competing in by the October 31st Entry dead-line. He has pre-entered for both the MILE and the CLASSIC. They both run on the same day…so his decision must be finalized on this entry date. The same would be true of SIDNEY’S CANDY who is cross-entered in the MILE DIRT and TURF…which both run on the same day.
So many details! It is always interesting to note how many things need to be properly taken care of to make these days go smoothly for all concerned.
Amidst all of these things, the horses and their connections need to travel to CHURCHILL DOWNS, settle in, and train forwardly for these special races.
The European contingent arrives in large groups on certain days and must immediately go to a Quarantine Barn area. These horses reside in this special area during their stay at Churchill Downs and train together at a special designated time each morning.
Other participating horses arrive from different racing jurisdictions on the various plane schedules each trainer is working with right now. In reality, so many detailed ‘safety procedures’ on so many specific levels are constantly initiated and followed by our industry for the benefit of all.
There is so much to think about right now!
With Love,
Hugs to All~(A special hug to our dear friend,Samantha, at this very difficult time…the loss of her beloved father, Mace.)

Hi Everyone. I don’t write often but read the messages everyday. I wanted to let everyone know that I went yesterday (Wed.) to Magali Farms in Santa Ynez to see Giacomo. He has settled in very well and very quickly even with the other stallions. Adena Springs where Giacomo was has 2 other stallions there. One is an A.P. Indy son who looks like him and is fantastic. They will bring the stallions out one by one for pictures and will give you a tour of the ranch which by the way is beautiful. Santa Ynez near Solvang is a beautiful horse ranch area. Any of you would enjoy it and you can go to Solvang for lunch in our little Danish town. After we saw the stallions, Giacomo was turned out in pasture and Tom the Manager took us over there to get more pictures of him in the pasture. Got him to run a little. His view is beautiful. He will have green pastures all winter, NO SNOW! So again Magali Farm will welcome you, just give them a call. I told Tom many of you may be visiting and he was happy to hear that. So hope you can make it and have fun. Dottie and John you will be pleased at the exquisite care Giacomo is receiving. We had a wonderful afternoon there. See you at the Breeder’s Cup

Thank Dottie and John for us for the usual very interesting information and the much desired photos. Hope you are resting up for your PARTY. It’s only a week plus one til the big day. I have to work that day but my recorder will be on. It won’t be the same without YOU but Barn 55 will be represented and we all wish the best for them.
@All – I am missing the humor provided by Terry Crow and the other rednecks.

Hello baby girl, thanks for all that good info. A lot is going on right now at Churchill. Since you’re not on the track this year, I’m going w/ Uncle Mo, put some of your Z luck on him because he will need it. Just think, a week from tomorrow I’ll be at your party. I can’t wait to be in the company of people that love you like I do.
See you soon baby girl.

I went with Maureen on the trip to Santa Ynez yesterday. Magali was fantastic!!! I had so much fun, and it was a very memorable experience. If you don’t want to go into Solvang, try and go to El Rancho Market afterwards for something to eat, and enjoy the SY Valley in all its glory!

More on Omaha – I received an email from a guy at the Omaha World Herald who had written an article about Omaha in 2004. I’m only going to quote some of the article since it’s quite long. “It’s unclear exactly what happened to the horse’s remains. Omaha was buried on Aksarben property after his death in 1959. Instead of following racing tradition and burying only the horse’s head, heart and hooves, workers lowered the entire stallion into a 10 by 12 foot grave on the east side of the grandstand behind a triangular headstone. To make way for the construction of an addition to the clubhouse in 1974, a crew dug up the headstone (and only the headstone) and moved it to the west side of the grandstand. In 2004 Aksarben Future Trust officials tried to find Omaha’s remains. They went back to the blueprints to determine the exact spot where he was buried. A work crew dug a hole roughly 16 x 16 and 14 ft. deep at the site. That earth was moved and reburied behind Omaha’s permanent monument. The excavation still failed to yeied any skeletal remains. But it’s possible there aren’t any left. A member of the work crew that buried Omaha said he was told that lime was placed on the horse before his burial to hasten decomp. And they encountered rushing water 12′ down. An equine vet who once worked at Aksarben said he was surprised that some remains of Omaha weren’t found.” The consensus seems to be that Omaha’s remains are gone. One other person was quoted as saying that “most of the old crew that buried Omaha 45 years ago is gone, too, and there isn’t much left of him except a memory”. Future Trust hopes to keep his monument permanently in place in the Circle of Champions. This article was written in 2004. I’m trying to contact one of Future Trust’s management team to see if they have any updated news.

Dear Zenyatta. We keep the countdown going to Breeder’s Cup. Cannot wait. Thanks to John for the great pictures and thank you and Dottie for providing so much great information. Love it and you!! Ordered my commerative magazine from the Bloodhorse, they said they were going fast, especially with you on the cover. Wishing you and TT a wonderful day! Sweet dreams. Hugs and kisses. XXXOOO
@Gloria Jeanne – Thank you for the picture Zenny on the carousel, too cute!! The flowers across her back are great, just like in the winner’s circle, where she spent so much time.
@Maureen and Leiana – Love your description of Giacomo in his new home. He was always my favorite at Adena Springs, such a sweet boy and watching him run was breathtaking. I used to enjoy going up to Solvang whenever I could when I lived in LA, it always made for a great weekend. I will have to try to make it to Magali next time I visit.
@Shari – Hope your having a wonderful week!! I will be sure and check out the latest on the Peppermint site. Hooves crossed fo MO!!!

Zenyatta you have a new member of the “19 Wins in a Row Club.” RAPID REDUX won his 19th straight race today at Laurel Park becoming the first male horse in North America to do so. Congratulations to Rob Cole and David Wells!

Kudos to R.R. for the win :-) Peace & Happiness to u Z!

@Joyce in Vegas ~ Wow! Great detective work. I had completely convinced myself that the racetrack, in dire straits for money, had sold the remains and that the remains were moved during construction of the Clubhouse. But from what you discovered, I think the horse has decomposed quite a bit and somewhere out there are bones. I am content with the fact that they buried Omaha whole, a great honor for a horse. May Omaha rest in peace. But Joyce I would like to hear about any new information that you gather from the management team. I am so relieved and thankful that you answered my plea for help. Zenyatta’s website is such a wonderful place to meet such great people. I’m tired from visiting horse farm/ranches in Louisiana this morn, so won’t visit this site again until tomorrow. Thank you again for all of your hard work. Knowing that Omaha was treated with dignity means a lot to me.

Another wondeful and informative post Dottie/Zenny! Thank you so much for taking the time out of your day to educate all of us. I am hoping for all the horses to run well and run safe, most of all.
Gloria Jeanne - The O.C.
Rapid R won his 19th in a row – sad. Zenny’s record is very special, the races she won were Grade 1 races with huge purses. Anyway – I still know Zenny is a way better horse and that’s what matters most. Zenyatta will always be the greatest horse to ever grace a race track or 60 Minutes!!!! I can’t wait til the Breeder’s Cup next week. It won’t be the same without you – but it’s still going to be fun.

What a lot there is to learn about entering a BC race. Thank you Zenny, Dottie and John for the lesson and photo. I’m curious about the quarantining of the European horses. I don’t understand why they are kept apart from the other horses for their stay at CD when they all get together on the track for the race. Can somebody please explain?
@ JAG – A lovely unicorn but maybe Zenny already had a rider. I can’t imagine not wanting to ride the Queen.

Joyce and everyone concerned with Omaha’s
remains: Even after all this time, Omaha’s remains would still be there…*Noor In Memory Of A Champion Facebook tells the story of how *Noor’s remains were found, along with photos of his entire body (what is left) including bones. He was buried in 1974. Erin Dwyer the archaeologist was able to recover bones, and the head bones as well. So there would be hope to recover him, and to have a proper resting place for him to sleep.

@All – Wasn’t it fun yesterday working to identify all of those great champions. I copied and enlarged the picture to try to see as many as I could.
@Joyce in Vegas – Or should I say Ms. Sherlock, great work on getting so much information on Omaha!!
@Abigail – Your offer was really sweet, it will be wonderful knowing I have a friend in Montreal if I make up that way. My sister-in-law is Canadian and she keeps telling about all of the wonderful places to see. Loved the video of Count Fleet and isn’t it amazing to see the grandstands packed as they were when racing was king, how I would like to see that again. Zenny and Team Z sure did their part to bring the fans out!
@Terry Crow – So glad to hear that only your computer is sick! I will be looking forward to your return.
