Good Morning,
It is October 24th…the day for Pre-Entries to take place for the 2011 Breeders’ Cup. This means that ALL horses who are hoping to run in the World Championship races this year must let the officials know their plans by going through the pre-entry process.
By noon today East Coast time, a pre-entry form for each participating horse and the fees must be submitted to the Breeders’ Cup Office. The BC Staff, in turn, will compile the various entries for each race and get them ready for publication. A horse may be pre-entered for 2 events at this time. On the form, the owner/trainer places a 1 by their first choice and a 2 by their second race option. If the horse is planning on just one race, that is the only race these connections pre-enter for at this time.
If a race does not “overfill”…which means less than 14 entrants, all pre-entered horses will get the opportunity to run in the race of their choice. If the race does “overfill / oversubscribe”…which means more than 14 horses select a particular race as their first choice, then the Racing Secretaries Panel selects the top 14 horses they feel should be in this race based upon their Past Performances for the year, current form, and points earned. The other horses go on the Also Eligible list.
This Wednesday, after all of the above is considered, the final list of pre-entries is released to the press. The horses continue to train, prepare, and work towards their BIG DAY!
Step 2 of this process takes place on October 31st. The final entry procedures are completed. At this time, if a horse has been pre-entered in 2 races, his/her connections must now declare which race they will be participating in…their preference. The final entry fees are paid. The post positions are drawn and the fields for the 2 days of racing are finalized.
In the oversubscribed races, the first 14 horses are in the body of the race for the post position draw and 2 other horses will be listed as ALSO-ELIGIBLES. They will be listed in order of preference by the Racing Secretaries Panel. It is all such a detailed and well-organized process. Wishing all the best to each horse pre-entered this morning and their connections. It is such a special time!
With Love,
Hugs to All~(Yeah, Black Caviar! #15…I’m sending you a HIGH HOOF for your accomplishment!)

Good morning, Z! As always, it’s good to hear from you. All of this information on racing you and Dottie provide us is wonderful! Thank you so much! I myself am excited for Havre de Grace, Stay Thirsty, and one my my favorites this year, Uncle Mo! I am so happy Mo was allowed to rest and get back to himself. What a comeback he has made! Go Mo go!
I hope you and TT are having a wonderful day out in your paddock. I wish I could be there for your party, but hopefully those of us who can’t make it will be able to see pictures and video later. :)
As always, love and miss you, Z!
Sharyn ~ Vermont
I just love all the information you give us. Since following you from the beginning I have learned so much.

Hi Momma Z! Hope all is well with Baby Z/B! I love the Breeders Cup! 2 glorious days of champions. I was lucky enough to go once when it was here at Lone Star Park. I marvelled at the way the horses look. So silky.
Now I just watch it on TV. Last 2 years I have steam cleaned my carpets during the time between races! ha ha
This year, however, I “have” to go camping that weekend and you can bet I will be watching on my Iphone! Thanks for the update on the process of pre-entering! xoxo

Hi Zenyatta my sweet special girl. I have this picture of me standing in front of the Jockeys. I took it this summer while visiting Keeneland. What a beautiful place. Keeneland was only the second track I have ever seen. I had only been to Mountaineer. It does not compare. I am home today because my husband had to be taken by ambulance last night. He kept passing out. They are checking his heart. I came home to let the dogs out then back to the hospital. I need my Z Family’s prayers. I took my Breeder’s Cup Magazine to read at the hospital. I just love the article about you sweet girl.I need a Zenyatta kiss. I wish I could walk out and give you one. Well Zenny I hope you and Tasty have a good rest of the day. I love you forever. Hugs and Kisses, Shari XXXOOO

The BC is an exciting time….I just want to say, Zenyatta…because of you it has become electric! What you have done to increase the interest in this race in particular and horse racing in general leaves one speechless. I looked at video and photos of the BC from the last two years & for me, it still feels like you are “in the race, a contender!” I guess what I am trying to say, is that, there can be no future BC without mention of the GREAT “ZENYATTA!” I cannot wait to hear/see the impact of your inaugural BC party! This will definitely go down in history & be a pivotal moment for the BC & horse racing all because of you & the special things you do.
I love you more and more with each passing day…stay well sweet girl!

@Shari Voltz…
Keeping you in my prayers. I am a nurse and understand how scary this can be. Hang in there & stay strong…we have great medical care in this country & I am sure your husband’s doctors are doing everything they can to help him through his illness! Thank you for sharing with the “Z” family…it is an awesome group of individuals on this site!

Count down is on for the Breeders Cup and can’t wait to meet your team at the luncheon! What a special girl you are Queen Z to have your own party at the Breeders Cup. Only thing better would be to see you in person. High hoof to Dottie for all she does for the racing world and keeping us informed.

Dearest Zenyatta,
Breeder’s Cup is almost here! It’s so exciting and I’m sure, like the rest of us, you’re anxious to see the entries for each race and their morning lines. I particularly love the ladies day. You ladies always run with a huge heart. I was especially disappointed to hear the news about Zazu, but am very glad she’ll soon be back to racing again. Please send her well wishes for me.
I’m sure you’ll soon be getting dolled up and glamorized for the Party–can’t wait to see you!

Rerally interesting to know how the pre-entry and selection process is handled for the Breeders’ Cup races. Appreciate it all being explained so thorouhly and in easy to understand language. I had no idea how it really was done, but now I know-thankyou so much Zenyatta, and Dottie of course!
Wishing you all the best and an extra best wishes to Dottiie for her fine work here on this diary. Love & Blessings to you Zenyatta and all your family and connections. Hugs to you too!

I just wanted to say it was great to watch Sister Moon in the Anoakia on Saturday. She is a big dark brown filly that looks a little like Z….it brought back memories of watching Zenyatta at Santa Anita. Here’s hoping that all the horses do well in their Breeder’s Cup races!

Love you Zenyatta! Happy B-Day Gloria Jeane! My Bday is the 6th. What a great way to spend a Bday weekend!I was lucky enough to win the trifecta last year on my day. ^-^

Dear Great One,
I too am anxiously awaiting the Breeder’s Cup races. Thinking of taking Friday off so I can watch for two days straight! Every year, for several years now, I have been invited to the home of Bill and Lill Nichols in Wilton, CA, which is very near Sacramento where I live. They own the Mare’s Nest Thoroughbred “nursery” where the very accomplished filly Bai and Bai was foaled. Bill wrote a book a few years back, “Seabiscuit: the Rest of the Story,” and was a primary source for Laura Hillenbrand’s phenomenal blockbuster “Seabiscuit: An American Legend.” For those of you who read Laura’s magnificent book, Bill was the high school kid who went to Charles Howard to ask for a summer job and ended up making him cry by asking him if the portrait on the wall was him as a boy, when it was his son Frankie who was killed as a child. There is a hospital in Willits named for little Frankie, the Frank R. Howard Memorial Hospital. So we all call Bill the guy who made Charles Howard cry. Anyway, Bill and Lill are fabulous and they just LOVE YOU so MUCH! We were all at their house last year and some were so anxious about your race, they left the room; couldn’t watch. BUT WE ALL LOVE YOU SO MUCH AND CAN’T WAIT TO SEE LITTLE ZEE BEE RUN HIS/HER RACE. We’ll all be thinking about you Nov. 5, and the truth be told, must of us think about you every day!
Your humble J

My Beautiful Zenyatta~ You continue to give me an education on all things horse racing. Thank you for ALL that you do. I wish I could be there for your party, but like so many others, I will have to watch it on TV….and hope we get pics and lots of stories from your fans from here that will share with us.
@Shari Voltz~ My thoughts and prayers are with you and your husband that the Drs. can figure out what is wrong and he gets well soon.
Z hugz to All~

@Jeanie~ What a neat story about your friends Bill and Lill. I too, am thinking about taking Friday off so I can watch ALL the Breeders Cup races. That is what I did last year.

Thank you Zenny/Dottie for explaining the Breeders Cup procedures. Relax with Tasty and enjoy the day.
@Shari Votz, now praying for your husband’s wellness and your strength.

@Patricia Embry…I could not agree more . You have said it succinctly and beautifully. Zenyatta has changed racing in the US. There is more excitement now about the sport than in the last 30 years…the glorious “70”s when I was a girl. The big difference to me is the number of fillies who have come on the scene in last few years…even in OZ and the UK, with the magnificent exception of Frankel, fillies are the “best show in town”. Zenyatta led that Glorious Gang of Great Glamour (LOL) into prominence and her phenomenally loyal and loving fans will be here for a long time to come…we await Ebby’s campaigns and RA and Z’s foals for the future…GOD save the QUEEN…Zenyatta

My adorable Zenyatta, thank you for all the great informative post I am learning so much about horseracing, I think I going to try to see if I become a partner with West Pont Thoroughbreds, maybe in the future I can also buy one of your baby’s…
So glad you are well and happy love you Ingrid.

@ Kennedy’s I try to see the link from Arienza, Azeri’s filly but the only thing they showed was news from all over the world. hugs Ingrid.

…an additional thought; Zenyatta’s connections have done more for owners and trainers than I can ever remember. They have brought respect and admiration and even a kind of love back into the sport of Kings…My tears fall when I think how happy and HEALTHY my darling Ruffian would have been with John and the Moses and Mario…we will never know but I can dream…
