Happy Friday to ALL!
I so hope all of you are well…and our friends who needed some of our ‘special thoughts’ earlier this week are doing better!
Recently, I have spent some time outdoors with Matt contemplating so many different things. On Saturday, BLACK CAVIAR is competing in the G2–Schweppes Stakes at Moonee Valley Racecourse. She is going for her 15th victory in a row…with the hope of becoming 15 for 15. Here’s wishing her a safe and successful trip! This is quite an accomplishment to achieve the first 14 victories…so all the best to her!
Then in America, we have some wonderful races taking place over the next few days. New York has their Showcase Day on Saturday. The Breeders’ Cup prep events are concluded and we are now gearing up for the Pre-Entries to be taken on Monday morning. It is getting quite exciting!
The majority of horses preparing to run in the World Championship races will probably have 2 more workouts before their BIG DAY! So much needs to be organized and planned in advance so each horse is RIGHT ON TARGET to do his/her best when competing in these events!
As for my dear pal, ZAZU, she will not be participating in the Ladies’ Classic this year. After she breezed the other morning, she had an inflammation in her right shoulder area. The proper tests were performed. It was discovered very quickly and she will be 100% soon. She simply needs some RNR at this time. Zazu will be out of her regular training routine for about 90 days. During that time, she will be hand-walked a couple times each day and enjoy a well-deserved and relaxing vacation.
We thoroughbred horses are athletes…no different than humans. Sometimes, we are not quite ourselves, for one reason or another. Fortunately, we have wonderful people around us who pick up on this very quickly…and the proper measures are taken to be sure we will be fine.
The technology today is also at such a high level. The veterinarians and vet hospitals have machines that can evaluate the different parts of a horse’s body to see exactly what is going on with specific bones and muscles. The level of sensitivity that these machines can analyze and detail is quite amazing. The constant growth and progress in this aspect of the industry truly amazes ME!
Relax and have a fun weekend! As for ME, I’m resting up for MY PARTY. It takes place exactly 2 weeks from today!
With Love,
Hugs to All,
Z

Dearest Z, I have been away for a few days because I have been busy being a new grandma! My daughter gave birth to a beautiful baby boy on Oct. 19th! She named him Keith, after her father, my late ex (but still dear) husband of thirty years. He passed away a little over a year ago, and this new little DUMPLING has brought so much joy into our lives :)
Your wonderful Fan Appreciation Day Diary Entry was posted on the day of little Keith’s birthday. What a lovely heartfelt tribute to your fans! Z, you and your team never cease to amaze us with your thoughtful, kind, generous spirit. And my heart nearly stopped when I saw that you had wished ME a happy birthday! Thank you so much!
YOU are truly a gift to all of us, and the community created by this Diary is a haven of friendship, racing and equine education, humor, and support for each other as well as horses and other animals.
All Z fans…I want you all to know how much I appreciate your posts. Thank you for all you share here. I hope to meet some of you (perhaps at the ZOO or visiting Giacomo, or at S.A. or H.P. :)
@Trina Nagele… Trina, a special thank you for the sweet, beautiful poem for me and my grandson to be on our (almost) shared birthday. You are so talented and so generous. Thank you!!
@Thank you to all Z friends who sent birthday wishes!
All of you, and our Queen herself, absolutely made my day!

@Kimberly Potter…congratulations on the birth of your new little granddaughter! May she be blessed with a healthy happy life!

@ Barbara Wood – Thank you – if I get there first I’ll leave the treats. Hope your weather is improving.
@ Judy B – Thanks for the link to Chris Antley. I missed the Charismatic program – didn’t come as far as Canada. What a good looking man and talented jockey he was, and his eyes were amazing. A sad, sad loss.

I love looking at you! I’d rather be Matt, so to be with you. First time I saw you in person was Oaklawn, I was for hours standing by the rail so when your race came I’d be there. Practically a whole year has gone by since your BC 2010 race. I think you astonished the world when you ran that race, the power coming so far behind, finding an opening to excel to the finish! When I came home from the BC I began sobbing and crying. “To think I will never see Zenyatta again” I said to my husband. He thought something was seriously wrong with me! Then the word came of a Farewell to Zenyatta fans at Keenelland in Dec. Another chance; perhaps this time I can give her a kiss. This time convinced hubby & I ran down with high hopes. It was fabulous being 8-10 ft. from you, the most beautiful creature with your dance too ,but once again it was crushing not to touch or give a kiss to you Z. I was depressed but along came Zenyatta’s diary post! I smiled again!! I have another chance at your party! Words can not express how lucky I would be to win the chance to visit you. All of my recent excitement in my life I owe to you and because of the thoughtfulness of Dottie, the voice, and Ann & Jerry & John
Love you, with 2 kisses on your soft nose, one for baby z

As usual, another lovely picture, but then, I don’t think there is ever a bad picture of Zenyatta.
Modern medical technology for four legged animals as well as for humans has indeed come a long ways.
Some thoughts: I’m still having a hard time getting my mind around a LIFE SIZED painting of Zenyatta….not a cardboard cutout, but a painting , by an artist. Oh, my gosh, If John was speechless then said it’s magnificent, it must be truly outstanding. I don’t know where it should be displayed, but I would think touring it around could be risky. I think I’m leaning toward the Kentucky Horse Park. ( Just my humble opinion.)
Giacomo going to California is so exciting. Now Ca. breeders can have a chance to breed to a Kentucky Derby Winner. A home boy so to speak.
The carousel looks wonderful. Such a grand undertaking Mr. and Mrs. Moss have been involved with. @Delrene- I am also 67 and if I were there, I would race you to the carousel. LOL When you go, please ride twice, first for you then for me. I want to hear about the wind blowing through your hair.
I imagine there are more, but I have tried to keep up with three gray three year old Tapit fillies this year, Zazu, Joyful Victory and Dancinginherdreams. Each has had an injury or health issue. When I first started hearing about them, I was hoping to see all three in the same race sometime. This month Dancinginherdreams just ran her first race since April and came in second. Joyful Victory will begin light training next month and now Zazu is on R&R for 90 days. I’m so glad she’ll be getting some kind of exercising ( hand walks) I hope there’s some grass she can be taken to as well. Hopefully, all three of these talented fillies will be able to meet in a race next year.
Finally, October is coming to a close and I know everyone is aware that it is breast cancer awareness month. I just want to encourage all you ladies to be diligent in you own care. Early detection is indeed key. And gentlemen, please remind the ladies in your life to be aware and take care.
Thanks to everyone here for all you do to make this The site to visit every day.

Dear Zenyatta I am posting late because it seems I am always doing something. I was going to put my grades in tonight but will do it tomorrow. You looks so BEAUTIFUL as always. You are true Perfection :) I hope you and TT have sweet dreams. I will talk to you tomorrow morning when I am running in the dark and cold. I hate that it is getting cold again :( Oh Zenny before I say good night. My Homeroom 215 won the Halloween Door Decorating Contest. Our theme was the Headless Horse instead of the Headless Horsemen. I am so proud of them. They will receive a DQ party from our PTA. Good night pretty girl. I love you and send many Hugs and Kisses, Shari XXXOOO
@ Dawn I miss talking to you. I watched the Secretariat video. It was Fantastic!!! We sent Mistletoe a box today filled with goodies and a medal for her. RUN MISTLETOE RUN!!!!!!

I hope this posts – have been trying to post on and off for the last two weeks without success. Here’s a link about Mr. Commons’ and Harmonious’ works today. As well as Cozi Rosie’s work too. It looks like they may be peeking at the right time; they each had good workout times.

@Doreen ~ Thank you so much for the link to how Stonestreet handles Rachel Alexandra fans. What a treat. Sounds like the fans get treated like royalty. Hey, even a horse cookie after visiting with Rachel. Great Idea. HOPE LANES END IS TAKING NOTE. I know that Dottie tries to involve the fans as much as she can and we really appreciate her efforts. Hopefully after Zen has her baby, Lanes End will have a day or two per month when fans can see Zenyatta.

Hi Marty in Co. – Now that would be too fun – but my “running” days are pretty much over ( boo-hoo) but, like friends do, we could take turns on Zenyatta.
Doreen – thanks for the articles on Rachel Alexandra – She is definitely on the Mommy trail. She looks great. So many nice posts today as always. I hope everyone has a nice weekend and good luck to all horses and riders this weekend. A safe return to the barn for all.

Forgot to mention and it is so important, ladies – to join Marty in Breast Cancer Awareness. Had my mammogram yesterday. Thanks for the reminder. You and I like 3 of the same fillies. , I’m such a sucker for the beautiful gray horses.

About Giacomo going to Ca. Just curious about owners who want to breed to him when their mares are in foal heat. Do they ship to Ca? I know mares always go to the stallion, but what about the foals the mare just bore? Maybe this is just an off the wall question, but do the foals go with their dams? I have wondered about this. Ca has some farms, but not like Ky!

Less than an hour to go now to Black Caviar’s race! It will be around 9:20 PM PT FRIDAY NIGHT here in California!
