Good Morning,
So much is going on these days in Lexington. I have such a busy schedule. It is my understanding that I even have a ‘CALENDAR’ that Dottie coordinates with Sarah each week to be sure I am where I need to be and when at the farm each day. I am having so much fun! This SECOND CAREER aspect of my life is rather exciting!
Needless to say, it is absolutely necessary for them to schedule in times for ‘HAIR, MANE AND HOOF’ care. As you know, I truly want to LOOK MY BEST!
Nicholas Karem is one of the photographers who was at Lane’s End last week shooting photos of ME. He is working with LOUISVILLE MAGAZINE. They are currently doing a piece involving ME right now. He really tried to get some very ‘unique’ shots. I sure hope I LOOK FABULOUS! He said I DID!
This reminded ME of the time Robert Maxwell came out to BARN 55 to get ‘just the right photo of ME’ for W MAGAZINE! He spent an hour on the ground rolling around on my grass snapping shots, stood on ladders of various sizes for another hour, and even had his assistant hold SOPHIE as a prop for ME to track with MY eyes. All of this was done with the goal of getting just the RIGHT photo! I saw the one they used in their piece…it was very special! LUCKY ME!
Some other very special things are also happening right now. As many of you may have read, MY JOHN was busy last week spending some time on a project that involved ME. When he was here on Friday, he did whisper a tid-bit in my ear. He is so excited! On Thursday, he went to Louisville to see the ‘in-progress’ LIFE SIZE PAINTING of ME that is currently being completed by artist, Jamie Corum. They have been in touch while the project was unfolding….but Jamie wanted John to review the final details in person with her and add anything more specific that would make the painting PERFECT!
From all reports, when he walked into the room and looked at the painting, I heard MY JOHN was ‘speechless’! After all of the years we spent together, he is the one person who truly knows every single inch of my body better than anyone else. He had one word to share with The Moss’ and Dottie after seeing Jaime’s work….”MAGNIFICENT”! Per John, “I did not have much more to add…Jamie captured ZENYATTA perfectly!”
This painting will be unveiled at MY PARTY! I can’t wait to share it with all of YOU!
Here’s wishing you a wonderful day!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

@JAG, thanks for the Brass Hat article. Unfortunately, that’s a work day. Otherwise I’d go see him. As for Blind Luck and Switch, their racing careers may not be over. Both are being offered as racing or broodmare prospects. One or both may stay in training. Life At Ten needs a farewell, though. She is definitely retired.
Alex Bowdoin
Charismatic. What a big beautiful Chestnut and so lucky to be alive because of Chris jumping off him and holding that leg up!! I hope Chris is at peace now and I want to say Thank You for saving Charismatic’s life….I hope this beautiful horse can come home when his Stallion duties are done. You are very lucky our Queen Zenyatta for your great owners and trainer and jockey, all who took such great care of you!!!

@Terry Crow
Great jokes today and they made my day!!!!!
Thanks.
Kendra
Zenyatta, just where is this painting going to hang? Your tail does look shorter, but guessing it’s just the wind making it look that way. You sure lead an exciting life. I loved the video of you and Tasty T. You were one lucky filly to have John Shirreffs for your trainer. Two kisses on your soft nose…one for you and one for baby.
Janis
So glad that I visited with Giacomo last month. What a handsome horse! Zenyatta, please tell us that some day we will be able to see you. Until then, all my love, peppermints and carrots…
Trish & Mike in Colorado
Thank you for this wonderful post. We saw Stubbs’ (18th century) full size painting of “Whistlejacket” 5 or 6 years ago in the National Gallery in London. It just took our breath(es) away. Cannot imagine what a full size portrait of the MOST beautiful, magnificent horse in the world would look like.

@Alex Bowdoin – Well said. The story of Chris Antley and Charismatic is so sad. He just couldn’t beat his demons. May he rest in peace.
Jane
A life size painting of you would be awesome to see! My family and I were so blessed to be able to visit you in person! We cherish the visits and they will be a life long memory!

I hear Giocomo is headed back to California! Thats fantastic!
~~~~~~~~~
Saw that your little sister Eblouissante had a nice workout today! Can’t wait to see her race but we are patient and know John has her best interest at heart and she will race when he thinks she’s ready!
Have a wonderful day Zenyatta and Baby “Z”! Hugs back to you! ♥❄♥ ¸.•*´♡♥ ❇ ★ ♡♥ ☆ *•.¸ ♥❄♥
@Sharon Call– so glad your heart event had a good outcome. My husband is a survivor as well (angioplasty, quintuple bypass, and a stent, but thankfully no heart attack). We have much to be thankful for.
And that includes YOU, dear Z. Love you always.
Zenny: I cannot believe a photographer would need to spend a couple of hours with you to get just the right photo. Every photo of you is just the right photo because you are just that beautiful. Sure do wish I could be at your party. Maybe you will host another party next year. Love ya. Linda
@JAG
Love the Brass Hat link. Love the fact they are
Saddling him up and giving him a part-time job.
TOO CUTE he was going to bite those who act
Up, still a true racehorse.
I encourage all of you to go to YOUTUBE and type in: Zenyatta Tribute: Heart
It’s a wonderful tribute to Zenny and the music (from the movie Rudy) is beautifully timed with the video. There are quite a few tributes to her, but this is a very nice one if you haven’t seen it.
Dear Zenny
You look so very gorgeous. Maybe that life size
Painting is going to be placed at Churchill Downs???
So glad YOUR JOHN was WOWED !!!! By
The art work. Hope you had a great day and
A restful evening. XXXOOO
Dearest Z, That’s wonderful news about the portrait. I viewed some of Jaime Corum’s magnificent equine works on her website. There you can also see the splendid German Shepherd bronze she did for a memorial to all police dogs who have given their lives in Kentucky. High hoof to her! http://www.jaimecorum.com/
@Alene—I hope things will soon be on the upswing for you in employment and for your dear mom with her health.
Marshall (girl's name)
Zenyatta, you look gorgeous as usual — thanks for the cute photo of a photo being shot!! We all wish we could be in the photographer’s shoes! A life-sized painting of you, WOW! Fantastic!!! Hugs!
@Alene: So sorry that you are having such a rough patch, but hope your mother is feeling better and that you will find another job soon. All the Best to you!
@Susan in TN: Great news about Cheyenne and Sass! Sure hope Rusty has good news soon, too! River Edge and you, Susan, are the greatest!! Thanks to all of you!
@DMCQ: Best wishes for your recovery — you are in our thoughts and prayers.
@Kari Bussell: You are very much missed. We all send healing thoughts and prayers!
@All Z’sters: I am sure that I have missed someone, but to all the wonderful people (and their equally wonderful companions) on this site: Love, Health and Serenity! Goodnight, sleep tight!
@Alene
Your post really hit home for me. I too come here for some sort of strength and hope like others do. So many of us here are going through some tough times. This wonderful site has enabled us to share with one another and appreciate something pure and true thanks to everyone who has and continues to care for this fabulous mare.Her career and entire story from her humble beginnings to the present is something we all seem to relate to in some form. People from other countries even contribute. How neat is that! Course, Dottie missed her calling in persuing writing as a career. She would be fabulous writing children’s books….she is so expressive sharing Z’s feelings and emotions. Just a thought.
@Paula
Thanks for the YouTube video. Of course I cried as usual each time I watch her. I often visit here to get a Z fix so to speak. Others should really do the same. May be surprised what you discover from past trainings and races to interviews with John, The Mosses and others.
Delrene
Let’s see if I can get this right. Today in the LA TIMES there is an article about the Zoo and the new carousel – thanks to the Moss’s and others.http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-zoo-carousel-20111019,0,2703053.story
I hope you get this but at least you can look up the article in case I goofed again.
Must take time to watch the Moss’s at their lecture.
Kimberly
Zenny I can’t wait to see the painting!!!! I bet it took his breath away… I wish I could be at the party. Hopefully it will be played on TVG or such… Love ya Z…
Delrene
what a little miracle. Thank you Trina, I am forever indebted to your computer expertise in linking articles.
Tell me, anyone, does it read as though the carousel has Zenyatta,Tiago and Giacamo likenesses on the carousel, or that the artist has done other statues. I’m sure there to ride it next time I’m up in the area. What a beautiful contribution to the Zoo and Griffith park. As a child I remember my parents taking me there on Sundays for pony rides.
Perhaps that is where it all began……
Trina Nagele
@Delrene—What a wonderful link you posted about the new carousel at the LA Zoo which will promote conservation of endangered species! The role that Jerry and Ann Moss played was fascinating—and you can even see ZENYATTA at the right edge of the photo! Yes, their horses—and a unicorn, because Ann says imagination is endangered too—are on the carousel! Next time, you’ll get to ride Z! High hoof to all!
@Peggy (N)— To get your Dumpling tag, e-mail Diana S at diastu46@gmail.com. Tell her how you want your name to appear on the tag and give her your snail mail address.
@Brenda S—I’m so sorry you couldn’t get the Charismatic documentary in Canada. Hugz.
@Susan in TN—That’s MARVELOUS news about Cheyenne and little Sass! It’s so wonderful they will be together! And I do hope Rusty soon gets a forever home too—he’s such a willing little sweetie, and cute! It’s so good to hear that Chester and Chopper are in Zen bliss, and that you feel it too. Hugz to you all!
Delrene
@Trina and all posters. Come to the LA ZOO AND get a ride on Zenyatta! I was thinking the same thing, that to the right was a likeness of our Zenyatta. I was just not 100% positive and hesitated. Glad you thought that was her too.
Alene – positive thoughts and a big hug your way.
also up in the Santa Ynez valley is the home/ranch of the Horse Whisperer trainer. having a senior moment regarding his name. It is not Buck, but another gentleman. Beautiful ranch to visit.
