Good Morning,
So much is going on these days in Lexington. I have such a busy schedule. It is my understanding that I even have a ‘CALENDAR’ that Dottie coordinates with Sarah each week to be sure I am where I need to be and when at the farm each day. I am having so much fun! This SECOND CAREER aspect of my life is rather exciting!
Needless to say, it is absolutely necessary for them to schedule in times for ‘HAIR, MANE AND HOOF’ care. As you know, I truly want to LOOK MY BEST!
Nicholas Karem is one of the photographers who was at Lane’s End last week shooting photos of ME. He is working with LOUISVILLE MAGAZINE. They are currently doing a piece involving ME right now. He really tried to get some very ‘unique’ shots. I sure hope I LOOK FABULOUS! He said I DID!
This reminded ME of the time Robert Maxwell came out to BARN 55 to get ‘just the right photo of ME’ for W MAGAZINE! He spent an hour on the ground rolling around on my grass snapping shots, stood on ladders of various sizes for another hour, and even had his assistant hold SOPHIE as a prop for ME to track with MY eyes. All of this was done with the goal of getting just the RIGHT photo! I saw the one they used in their piece…it was very special! LUCKY ME!
Some other very special things are also happening right now. As many of you may have read, MY JOHN was busy last week spending some time on a project that involved ME. When he was here on Friday, he did whisper a tid-bit in my ear. He is so excited! On Thursday, he went to Louisville to see the ‘in-progress’ LIFE SIZE PAINTING of ME that is currently being completed by artist, Jamie Corum. They have been in touch while the project was unfolding….but Jamie wanted John to review the final details in person with her and add anything more specific that would make the painting PERFECT!
From all reports, when he walked into the room and looked at the painting, I heard MY JOHN was ‘speechless’! After all of the years we spent together, he is the one person who truly knows every single inch of my body better than anyone else. He had one word to share with The Moss’ and Dottie after seeing Jaime’s work….”MAGNIFICENT”! Per John, “I did not have much more to add…Jamie captured ZENYATTA perfectly!”
This painting will be unveiled at MY PARTY! I can’t wait to share it with all of YOU!
Here’s wishing you a wonderful day!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

More good news from River Edge: Sass and his mother Cheyenne have been adopted! They will be leaving in a few weeks. I hope to meet their new people. I am so happy that they will be together and have a forever home! I will truly miss them. Sass (as you may remember) was named by our DJ in the Name the Colt contest. He is actually “Sasparilla” which is too cute but he goes by Sass as that’s all you can get out before he does something he shouldn’t! :) Cheyenne is such a dear. She is perhaps not looking her best at the moment, after almost 5 months of nursing and a bout of aspiration pneumonia, and she only has one good eye (don’t know if I ever mentioned that- I don’t think of it much), so I feel like her new people must be the kind who can see inner beauty, although she is gorgeous to me, always. Rusty is the only “Sweetie” left at River Edge and I am going to try very hard to find him his own person.
Chester and Chopper are in a “zen”-like state of happiness. The weather has been glorious (until today) and they have spent sunny days grazing in their field. The children join me in the evenings to groom and spoil them- I don’t see how they will ever have a tangle in their tails again! I leave every time with a glow in my heart.

You are so much fun Z!! I always read your updates on fb about the latest events and occasions that are going on around you. Did you know that a young woman filmed you walking from your barn to the saddling area at Churchill Downs last year at the 2010 Breeder’s Cup?? Every time I want to go back to that special time, I watch this video. I get tears in my eyes every time, when Mario leads you into the grandstand and the crowds go crazy!! Then I watched the race :(, and also your 2009 and 2008 victories. I love still watching all of your races. We so miss you on the track. You are such a very special horse and so are all of the people around you. I’m SURE that’s what made you so fabulous, having such a loving and nurturing family to take care of you. I know you’ll be a great mom, too, and that that same love will be around your little one. Please keep us updated on your activities Zenyatta. We love you!

Having lived most of my life in CA and driven up and down it’s length MANY times, Santa Ynez is in the central ‘coast’ area. Very horsey country. If you go, check out Hearst Castle, Madonna Inn and stop by the very cool town of Solvang…amazing pastries and hunt up some cherry wine!
(Note to self: when is it time for a road trip???)

Zenny…a life size portrait of YOU has to be one of a kind…a real work of art. To think an artist was able to capture your spectacular being on canvas is jaw dropping. And, to have your John say it is perfect is the ultimate compliment. You party will be amazing…I only wish I could be there to share it with your connections.

Dear Zeny and Dottie:
Thank you for the cute picture of the photographer. Amazing what photographers will do to take pictures. Thanks for the wondeful news about the life size painting. After the unveiling where will the permanent home be of the fabulous painting?
Will we, the fans, ever have a chance to see your beautiful life size painting? Hope we do. It will be the best substitute at this point in your second career unless we have a chance to see you. My fondest dream is to see you again and visit Lexington and see as much as I can. Maybe visit Life is Sweet and Giacomo too. Hugs and prayers to you and your baby. Tell Tasty I pray for her too. Kisses to both of you! Marilu
