Happy Friday to ALL!
It is another wonderful time for our sport this weekend. The programs in our country are highly contested. Then at Ascot, their weekend card features the inaugural British Champions Day. The race which will truly create a great deal attention is the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes–G1. FRANKEL is entered to run in this one mile turf event. He is going for his 9th straight victory while remaining undefeated! The feeling of anticipation and excitement surrounding this wonderful 3 year old colt is something to be enjoyed and embraced by all of racing.
FRANKEL…by Galileo (GB) out of Kind…is owned and bred by Juddmonte Farms. As a 2 year old, he performed beautifully in his races…so much so that he was awarded the honor of being the 2010 European Champion 2 year old colt.
As a 3 year old, he has continued to develop and mature at a very high level. As of August 5, 2011, he was ranked #1 in the World Thoroughbred Rankings!
This is truly an achievement of great pride and respect!
Other 3 year old stakes will be running this weekend in our country. In California, the Oak Tree Derby runs on Saturday and the Harold C. Ramser, Sr. (fillies) on Sunday! Then at Keeneland, we have the Queen Elizabeth Challenge Cup on Saturday for 3 year old fillies. This is one FUN TIME of the year to be 3!
HERE’S WISHING THE VERY BEST TO ALL OF THE HORSES AND THEIR CONNECTIONS!
Enjoy your handicapping and your weekend!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

PS. I know what MY JOHN did yesterday! I’ll share it with YOU next week! He said it was VERY SPECIAL and I’D BE SO PROUD!

Catching up on the posts. @Barbara Wood-Thank you. @Brenda S-That was a true story. The letter in question was delivered to a person in Nova Scotia, and it was the person to whom it was intended. @Judy Berube-Hope Russ enjoyed the joke. Does he know you are the president of the NE chapter of the redneck club? That might get a laugh from him. @signofthetimes-Glad you enjoyed the jokes. @Vicki B-Great joke. I’ll admit that Truman is one of my heroes, not because of his politics, but because he will be the last president who did not have a college education. @Joanna from TX-THank you. Glad you enjoyed the joke. @Debbie G-Happy birthday! @Rosemary McCauley-Glad you enjoyed the jokes. @Heidi-Happy birthday, youngster. @Diana S-Glad to see you are taking your duties as regional president of Arizona/California redneck club seriously. Good jokes, fer sure. Maybe we should add New Mexico to your territory. @Diana S, Denise in AZ and Rosemary McCauley-You might be a Arizona/ California redneck if you steal money from the Salvation Army bucket. @Judy Berube, president of NE chapter of redneck club-You might be a redneck if your idea of the newspaper is a 14 year old copy of Dog Fancy. @Susan in TN and Kari Bussell-You might be a redneck if you offer to bait your date’s hook on the first date. You might be a redneck if you buy your wife camouflage lingerie. You might be a redneck if your toilet seat says sit here. You might be a redneck if you have ever gotten a lap dance from your sister. Here is today’s joke–A redneck was sitting in the waiting room in the hospital waiting for his wife to deliver. The nurse had noticed him, and decided to play a joke. She went out to the ward and, after obtaining permission from the mother, brought a black baby into the room to show to the redneck. The redneck took a look at the child and said “Very Nice.” The nurse was flabbergasted. She said “Aren’t you surprised that the baby is black?” The redneck then said “No. My wife burns everything.”

@Heidi–Happy belated birthday!!!!
@Margaret–Nasty cold, go away and leave our Margaret alone!
@MLV and J Smith–I agree. I’ve already decided that if times get so bad that our daughter can’t pay her board bill, I’ll just eat less to help her! We do what we have to do for our animals.
@Sharon Call–I’ve been singing your song ever since last November. That was the most awesome display of grit and determination I have ever seen by ANY horse, much less a girl against the guys.
@JAG and all dog lovers– here is a great link (JAG, you might already have seen it) of dogs jumping rope. I won’t ruin it for you by telling you how many.

Praying for safe trips for all this weekend.

Sharon Call, Thank You so much for describing the BCC 2010 in a way that I can be happy about. I still cannot watch it on YT. I watched the telecast, went into my closet and cried my eyes out. Broken hearted for Mike, probably the most! It is all ok now, of course. I think I am ready to watch it again. I will look for all those details of Z’s valiant effort, that you have just described so well, and smile…

Trying to catch up.
@DAWN CONRAD—THANK YOU for posting the link to the full interview with Jerry and Ann Moss on #356! I just had time to watch the beginning, but I’ll be back to watch every single minute!
@KATHY WILSON—Congratulations on your lovely new mare! I’m so glad you two have that special connection with each other. What’s her name?
@JOANNA—Hope you have a wonderful day at Ascot, and we’ll be interested to get your report.

Turkoman – I’m on a mission now! He won his owners over 2million, is the grand sire of HOY Point Given. Also grand sire of Hard Spun & Col. John, and they couldn’t spring for his board when he was pensioned. Disgracful. I will be asking them why not if I find contact info. Don’t forget to include provisions for your pets in your will, espcially if you have large pets, like a horse. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turkoman_(horse)

TONY &SUE really enjoyed your post. Z is and always will be the Queen.

@Sharon call. Thanks for a great post. The way I look at it is Zenyatta didn’t lose to one horse, she BEAT 18 others AFTER being 25 lengths back. It was DEFINITELY her finest hour!

JAG- thanks so much for thr Giacomo and Havre de Grace links. Enjoyed both. You really do a great providing us with interesting and important sites.
Hope all is wonderful with you now. Mary

J Smith, I am in complete agreement with you. There are still too many owners who see these horses as throw away items. Jeanne Mirabito found Our Mims in a field where she got very little care. She was no longer any use as a broodmare so she was just dumped there. As a three year-old Our Mims won three grade one races and was the three year old female champion. And look how she ended up. That is the case with so many broodmares who are no longer needed to produce. That is why Jeanne decided to start her haven. Turbo’s dam, Taba came to live with Jeanne before she died there.
I think that, unless something happens to the ranch now that the owner has died, Turbo is safe there. And should something happen to the ranch, there are a lot of us who will make sure that he will be going somewhere that will be as perfect for him as EA Ranches has been.
When I owned my horses I made sure my life insurance policy would take care of them until their deaths. Anyone with horses needs to make sure they will be provided for or at least have a plan for them. That is how I got my second horse. Her owner died and left no plan for her horses. I took the one horse that nobody wanted, a 23 year-old arthritic mare who otherwise was going to be put down. It turns out that she is Zenyatta’s cousin. She even did some of those dance type moves that the Queen does so beautifully. I had her for 21 months before she had to be put down due to multiple strokes. But her last years were spent in retirement at a wonderful facility in the wine country and my sister and I visited her twice a day and doted on her.
I just want to add that I have been a HUGE racing fan since 1960 and have never seen a more impressive stretch run than Zenyatta in the 2010 BC. And a close second would have to be her stretch run in the 2009 BC. She is just an amazing athlete.

Wow–the movie “Buck” just out on DVD, is touching, moving and wonderful . . . a documentary about a “horse whisperer” who gives clinics all over the US . . . . loved his “understatements” . . . just like so many good horsemen.

Zenyatta, You are such a sweet girl no wonder every one loves you so. Stay safe and take care of baby Z/B and kisses on your soft nose. XOXO

@Everyone who replied to my earlier post regarding Z and the 2010 BC Classic. Thank you so much – every once in a while I get it right. Wish I could do that more often.
Kendra
I have to admit that I could not watch the 2010 Breeders Cup Classic. As I recall, a horse slipped in one of the previous races and had to be euthanized. After watching that race, I turned off the TV and prayed that Zenyatta would have a safe trip. Besides the fact that Blame is a very good horse, I think the wetness and the fact that the race was being held at Blame’s favorite track put Zenyatta at a disadvantage. But that’s just horse racing. I wanted her to win so badly, but I’ll take that safe trip. Zenyatta, you are the best.
Deneen
Appreciate the updates . . . can’t wait to hear what YOUR JOHN did yesterday!! Love you very much Zenyatta!!!! Hugs and kisses to you and Baby Z/B.

Dottie . . . sending you a BIG thank you for all you do!! You’re the greatest!!!!

just an fyi…It was Rough Sailing that had the fatal injury in one of the races before the 2010 Breeders Cup Classic. He was taken away in a van, and later they discovered that the injury was unrepairable.

Of late, it seems a number of folks are getting quick to jump on a bandwagon against ‘this trainer’ or ‘that owner’ or some ‘rule or regulation’, with no presentation of evidence or something to backup some of the comments being made.
I’m particularly refrring comments and/or dispersions being made against Jerry Hollendorfer, the trainer of Blind Luck. He happens to be a part owner. NOTE: I said PART. I doubt seriously he is majority owner and as such would/could say what was to happen to Blind Luck.
Furthermore, I doubt he is a man who would run aroun telling everybody “I voted to keep her racing–it was me against all them”. He didn’t get into the Hall of Fame with a reputation that such a thing would imply. I’ve not seen detrimental comments about Jerry EXCEPT for here on Zenny’s diary.
If that partnership is for racing and not geared up for breeding, it is understandable why they would sell her for breeding OR racing purposes (the “or racing” would be to show that she is not injured).
There are lots of people/groups in either type of business as well as many in the dual business of racing and breeding, i.e., Lael Stables, and our own Mosses). There is no shame in being one or the other–it doesn’t make you less a horse lover.
And selling her does NOT equal her being sold to someone who would abuse or not take care of her! Really. Thats about as silly an idea as one can get. Blind Luck is a very valuable mare. She ran on all surfaces, she made 8 cross country trips to take on all the girls.
With all the black type behind her name, she and her foals will be valuable assets. You don’t take an expensive Lamborghini and ruin it by not putting oil in it or not getting mechanical checkups. You surely wouldn’t take lesser care of a living organism that interacts with you on a daily basis…not when foals could bring in over a million dollars just being sold.

Good luck to Frankel this weekend. Thank you again Dottie for all you do for us.

Hi Z,
Thank you for all of the exciting racing news! Have a fabulous weekend!
@MLV – I met Turkoman at Circle H years ago. What a wonderful boy! I now have my very own Alydar grandson. In 2009, my friend picked up a lovely mare that we wanted to breed to Turkoman but he had just been pensioned. Glad you had fun on your visit.

Per Thoroughbred Times – California stewards back Dutrow ban
Richard Dutrow Jr., who had his trainer’s license suspended for ten years on Wednesday by the New York State Racing and Wagering Board, will not be allowed to train in California.
Stewards at Santa Anita Park reviewed New York’s ruling and agreed Dutrow will not be able to train in California barring a temporary restraining order.
A statement by the stewards, released by the California Horse Racing Board, said:
“California Horse Racing Board Rule 1484 (Evidence of Unfitness for License) states in part, ‘If any…licensee is under suspension, set down, ruled off, excluded from the inclosure, or otherwise barred from any racing occupation or activity requiring a license, it is prima facie evidence that he or she is unfit to…participate in racing in this state as a licensee during the term of any suspension or exclusion from racing imposed by any competent racing jurisdiction.’
“Consequently, under the provisions of the aforementioned rule, Mr. Dutrow would be precluded from racing in California absent a temporary restraining order issued by a court of competent jurisdiction.”
THANK YOU, LORD!

Oh come on Zenny you can tell us we won’t say a word….what’s the surprise? How can we possibly wait till next week?
@SHARON CALL well said regarding Zen’s last race, somehow people forget she also passed many top colts on the way to the finish line.
@JAG IN CALIFORNIA thanks for the Giacomo post I saw him at Adena farm this year he is stunning!
@ALL so glad to hear good news about Fraser he is a beautiful colt and I hope he has a good life.
@MLV it sure sounds like you had a wonderful tour of that farm and how “Up close and personal” can you get! I would love to be able to do that.

@Trina Nagele – Thank you sooo much for the two poems! I got teary eyed reading my birthday poem. I can’t believe someone would do that for me! And the Three Zenyateers is just brilliant. I can’t wait to read Kari’s and Susan’s comments about it. You are so sweet and special, Trina. A high hoof for you! :-)
