Good Morning,
It is a bit rainy here this morning and the weather is about 57ish. The temperature has cooled off a bit, but it is still quite pleasant. One thing I have learned while living in Kentucky, the weather can change very quickly. One must always be prepared.
I was wondering how my pals, Nereid and Star Billing, like it here. Dottie commented that it is rather HOT today in California…in the high 80’s. I know MY JOHN would have definitely prepared for the change in temperature in respect to these 2 fillies. Knowing him, he brought some nice, comfy blankets for them to wear….especially in the evening.
Entries were drawn Wednesday for their race, The Queen Elizabeth Challenge Cup–G1. The race runs at 5:45 Eastern Time. Star Billing drew the one hole (she will be wearing RED) and Nereid is in post 5 (wearing a GREEN saddle towel). The morning line for both of them is 6 to 1. There is a field of 8 entered and Winter Memories is the favorite at 6-5. Summer Soiree is 2 to 1. Here’s wishing all of them a GREAT TRIP!
I know MY JOHN is in town. After morning training today, he went to Louisville for a bit. I heard he was out doing a ‘special project in relation to ME’ this morning. This is TOO CUTE!
I wonder what it is? I’m sure he’ll whisper it in my ear when he comes to visit!
Have a wonderful day!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

Zenny- your friend Nereid is gorgeous- what a great photo! Best of luck to her and Star Billing. You are so supportive of your gf’s! Your John certainly has us intrigued! What could he be working on?? I hope you got out today between showers. Zenny, I wish you could meet Chester and Chopper- they are good guys and I am sure you would like them! Love you <3

Nereid is certainly checking out her surroundings and when she settles in I’m sure that she will like Keeneland. The cooler weather will seem a bit strange at first but you’re right, John will have brought some snuggly blankies and there’ll be lots of hay to curl up in at night. Please be sure to share whatever surprises John whispers in those gorgeous ears of yours. I am happy to say that I’ve managed to get HRTV back on my laptop. I have to wonder if my seven hours straight of watching somehow triggered an alert and that’s why they cut me off. I’m being quite cautious now so that I’ll be able to watch the QEII on Saturday. Hooves are crossed for John’s girls. Hope you and Tasty are enjoying the cooler weather.

@Dawn Conrad: Thank you for the link to War Horse. But how in the world are any of us horse lovers going to be able to “see” this film? We will be “watching”, but being able to see anything through all our tears is going to be quite a different story.

I would swear that Chester and Chopper have already put on weight! They are so relaxed and settling in so well- I am very relieved. I wonder if Chopper had his “own boy (or girl)” at some point in his life because he is SO patient and good with the children. He is calm and slow and watches them so he can do exactly what they want. The little girl is still somewhat afraid of him because of his size, but the 9-year-old boy is his buddy! This is a guess, but I’d bet Chopper had a very good life once-upon-a-time. I’d guess Chester has never had an easy life. He will just tug at your heartstrings. He is trying his very best and is SO CUTE!
@Dawn C: Thank you, friend, for your comments. It would have been very hard to let Rootbeer go except that this seemed like a really good fit for him. I still haven’t read War Horse but plan on starting it soon. I hope you are feeling better and that work calms down! <3
@Abigail: Loved your Vault article on So You Think!
@California Dumplings: Can't believe it's 100 there!
@Kari B, Sharon in Seattle, LouAnn Cingel, Terry Crow's friend Don: Hope you all had a positive day! <3

Good morning dear Zenyatta and all her friends. believe it, very hot here in Ca. Over 100 deg. in Carlsbad (in the shade, mind you) My friend and I are going to the races Saturday! @ Santa Anita. Any other ladies/ dumplings attending? It would be fun to meet you in person. I’ll be wearing my “Dumpling Tag”. Good luck to Valeria today!!!! and a safe trip for all the horses. I worry about the heat, but it is supposed to subside by Saturday. We have a reservation at the Derby for Sat. night. I sure am sorry I couldn’t make it last weekend for all the festivities for Judy, but things happen. Best of luck to all the horses, especially Star Billing and Nereid. Beautiful fillies.
Can’t wait to find out what your John is up to but I’m sure it is a wonderful surprise for you.

ps. I see that Friday’s card last race has a baby by Giacamo!

@JAG: I can’t wait to see how the white thoroughbred filly, Patchen Princess does tomorrow. I hope she puts in a good effort and does her 88 year old owner proud. Regarding Shannon Luce’s comment that white thoroughbreds aren’t as rare anymore, well I guess the operative word is “as” but to me only 131 registered is rare.

Zenny, I can’t wait to hear what John’s secret activity regarding YOU will be. For sure, it will be fabulous!

Nereid looks so lovely and she seems to be checking things out just like when you arrived last year. Oh how we will miss you but I am sure everyone that is able to come will enjoy your party. I just hope you will be able to do it again next year in CA. I am also worried about Blind Luck it just seems like a very sad way to retire when she had such a fabulous career. Wishing everyone safe races this weekend and know you will enjoy seeing your team.
@Dottie: thank you so much Dottie for the daily posts I read them every morning:-)
Love you Queen take care of the little one
Cathleen
Zenyatta, it makes me so happy when I hear YOUR JOHN is visiting you!! I know you miss each other very much! Have fun together. Can’t wait to hear what he whispers in those big ears of yours! I bet they can hold some pretty big secrets! Cathleen XOXXO

GOOD LUCK AND SAFE TRIP TO ALL. THE 25TH BREEDERS CLASSIC RACES HERE IN CHARLES TOWN, WV. IS THIS SATURDAY. HOPE THE RAIN GOES AWAY. TEXAS CAN SURELY USE IT. @DAWN CONRAD THANKS FOR THE REMIND OF WAR HORSE MOVIE. HORSES ARE SUCH NOBLE CREATURES. READ IN THE BIBLE JOB 39;19-25. GOD IS ASKING JOB QUESTIONS IN THIS CHAPTER. BLESSING TO ALL, SHERRY D. WV.

What a beautiful photo of Nereid. Thank you, Dottie, for keeping us abreast of everything going on with Team Z,
@All: Does anyone know if the race Saturday will be on tv? Can’t get TVG or HRTV.
@Dawn Conrad–thanks! And you are SO right. For someone who endured 90 days of 100+ all summer, I’m freezing up here in Estes Park. It’s not the temps., but the winds that make it feel so cold. It’s good hearing from you again! You were missed.I want to second your comments on “War Horse”. Can’t wait for the movie. For anyone looking for it at your local library, you’ll find it in the children’s section. It can be read very quickly.
@Kimberly Potter–did I miss something?? Is the baby here??
@Sherry D WVA–If I’m not mistaken, those Biblical quotes were at the beginning of the movie “Secretariat.”
@All California/NM, etc. Dumplings–I feel your pain about the heat. Miserable for you.
@Susan in TN–we never get tired of reports on your “babies”.

Hi Z, You sound like you are in such a good place in your horse life. Everything is just falling in its place for you. I do want to let you know that I was very disappointed today. I have a new office and everything is beige. I was thinking what could I add to the area and immediately I thought of you. A FATHEAD of Zenyatta is what I need. I looked online for a FATHEAD of you and they don’t make them. I will have to find a nice large poster of you instead. Have a wonderful evening and stay warm tomorrow morning. Love and Kisses for friend Sue

Here is a very interesting article on Frankel and how he got his name. According to this, the Prince’s racing manager calls the horse Bobby. There are also comments from Jerry Moss on the importance of a good name for a horse.

Good evening sweet Z, You really have me wondering what John is doing on your behalf! I know it is something great. Nereid sure looks splendid. It is a rainy day in Wi. Stay warm and dry pretty lady, our mama to be. You will forever be No. 1 in my heart. love you with 2 kisses on your soft nose, one for baby z
@Dawn Conrad; I will be watching for the movie “War Horse”, thanks. I wish our dreams could come true, to give Zenyatta a kiss on her soft nose. Hope you feel better.

Zenyatta, was thinking of you today as I was riding “Big Red” at Sky High in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Oh, I sure hope you get to see your John. Nereid is quiet a good looking filly and what a pedigree. Thank you for sharing some of the excitement of the Breeders Cup. You are really quite the intelligent broodmare:) Love ya so much.

Hi Zenny, a pretty picture of Nereid and hope all goes well with the race. Let us know what your John has up his sleve when he comes to visit you. I’m glad to know he will be by to visit you and I figured he would. You are right about weather changeing so quickly but it is that time of year for all of us. We are very hot right now but don’t know how long it will last. I personaly like it on the warmer side. Have a good visit with your John and I am sending much love Zenyatta.
