Good Morning,
All is going well with MY PARTY plans. I am getting so excited. At this time, we have guests who will be attending from approximately 35 different states and Canada. This is so much FUN!
I know Dottie and Leonard are working quite hard on all of the specific details one needs to plan and organize for such an event. Yesterday, they were reviewing the timeframe with Amy (Video Production) as to when I will attend the party via live feed.
In the meantime, I’m getting to visit with special family friends. REAGAN came to see ME the other day for a ‘play date’. This baby thing is still so new to ME. It think she thought my coat was quite ‘soft’ when she touched ME.
TOO CUTE!
As I’ve mentioned before, MY BABY will be so much bigger than a human child. REAGAN is 6 months old. At this age, BABY Z / B will be at the stage of being weaned and weigh somewhere in the range of 400-500 ish pounds…per Bayer Equine Connection.com.*
“Foals are commonly weaned at 5 to 6 months of age.”*
Wow..this is interesting. I can only imagine that BABY B/Z and I will really be quite close for several months after his/her birth. I really like this idea. I hope to teach ‘MY DUMPLING’ some great things.
“Once a foal is no longer nursing, a 500-600 pound weanling should be eating approximately 2.5% of its body weight in feed and forage in a day.”*
This is also something to note. Foals grow quickly.
I love learning all of these new things. I truly want to be well-prepared to be a GREAT MOM!
With Love,
Hugs to ALL~
Z

Dear Sharon Call:
I visited BL’s Facebook page. Sorry to say, I do not see any viable arguments for selling her. As an owner, you can send your mare to a Farm (like Lane’s End) and she can be bred. These owners obviously do not want to keep her anymore. She gave her all for them, but whatever their reason(s), they want to sell her. Hugs, JB

Dear Zenyatta and all, I too am heartbroken that Blind Luck has to experience this humiliation after her amazing career. I pray that someone can give her the life she deserves like you, Z.
LouAnn Cingel of Union, Missouri
You will surely be one special Mom Zenyatta and don’t you worry, as your little dumpling will love you and be very close to you.
It is absolutely fantastic that so many people will be attending your party at the BC. Sounds like it is going to be exciting and extremely fun. Dottie I am sure is doing a super job getting it all together along with others too.
Thanks for sharing the adorable picture of you and Reagan, so touching and sweet.
Love you lots Zenyatta and I am so thankful for you as just the thoughts of you help me to get through my trying time due to my health issues and a few other things too. You give me hope and bring a smile to my face each and every day. Sending my Love and Blessings with lots of hugs

@PerkyGreen: I’m with you 100% on Blind Luck steamrolling any Hollendorfer horses she runs against if given the opportunity. Here’s to a great new owner and trainer for this wonderful girl!
And – Ya gotta tell us something about that unique blog moniker! I kept people going with mine for awhile, now it’s your turn!

We are looking forward to your party! Our little ones frequently talk about you (even our 4 year old)! You will be a great Mom! Lots of love from Austin, TX! xx

@harriet: For sure on being close to human babies – even cute ones like Reagan! Yikes! Some make ME want to dive under the bed with the cats!

ALL: I thought several of you might really love looking at Bronwen Healy’s blog — an amazing Australian equine (thoroughbreds) photographer. Here are her shots of visiting Darley Australia a few months back for their Stallion Parade. The shots of Bernie are TO DIE FOR!!!! Here’s the link:

@Terry Crow: Now all these fine people and horses think I’m doing something naughty with one of my cousins! And this is a problem why? Line breeding works for my horsie friends, why not for my cousins? (And yes, I’m bucking for VP of the Redneck club!)

@All: Hollendorfer picked up no fewer than 10 yearlings at the recent Keenland sale. We truely are in a throw-away society.

@ Abigail – The Bronwen Healy photos are awesome and Bernie is obviously quite at ease down under in Oz. I see that Darley favors the same blue/white brow band that Zenny is wearing in my favorite photo of her.
@ Diana S – Hope you had a great time at Santa Anita, did you get kisses on the cheek??

@All, I have to add my voice to all of you above who have expressed sorrow over the magnificent Blind Luck’s situation. As Judy B. said, she “gave her all” for her owners.
I am new to racing and don’t know what I can contribute to this discussion without sounding very naive. I just find the whole thing VERY unsettling.
Deborah Richman
By “the whole thing” I meant Blind Luck’s situation, not the discussion :)

Hi Zenny: You look so sweet with baby Regan. You are something Zenny. Think about it your a huge horse with such a little baby. I am shocked to hear about Blind Luck. How sad. Because she didn’t place in 1 race she is being sold at an auction? That is so odd.
Deborah Richman
Abigail in Montreal…GORGEOUS photos, and you are right, Bernardini is to die for! WOw!

Blind Luck’s current owners must think she is at the end of her career. Otherwise why would they sell her. I am sure Blind Luck will go for a pretty penny. I just hope she will not be sold to underhanded horse racing owners that will race her too hard.
Linda in NJ
@Delrene: You said it the best. It appears owners like this do not have any love for their horses. Its all about money. Either they win or out they go and they bring the next group in. This is really very sad. These owners did not appreciate her. Otherwise they couldn’t let her go.
Sunny Boyd
Good evening Zenyatta,
what sweet pictures you have for us tonight. Just precious. You and the little girl look just beautiful together. Really special. You’ll be the BEST MOM ever. Glad but not surprised your party is going to be THE PLACE to be.
Get a good night’s rest and dream sweet

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if somebody like Zenny’s family bought BL so that she could live a safe life, whether on the track or as a brood mare, in her home country.
Linda in NJ
@Ida: Oh, I didn’t know about Life at Ten. I just saw her at the Belmont last weekend on Super Saturday. Oh, I am sick over this. Now that there are so many communication tools like Facebook and websites like this news travels fast. The more we hear about situations like this, I think in the long run it will end up hurting the industry. Because fans like us will not appreciate horses that they have followed being shipped off and we never hear about them again. This isn’t right.
Andrea
All of you are right. These mares gave these people the thrill of a lifetime! Moments in the winners circle, smiles, thrills! Then to be sent to the auction block, well, it is Keeneland Mixed Sale, still, at the very least, secure and guarantee a safe future for these gallant girls. I have said before, I gave my word to the seller of my college daughter’s mare that I was her last home. She would never know the fear of the block or a truck, hauled to God knows where. We owe it to our horses, Kayla hauled my kid around to horse shows and trail rides and everything else you can imagine! I owe her the safety and the security of a forever home and a peaceful and loving end when that time comes. That being said, whew! I am sure these mares will be bought by responsible people, but, yes, it is sadly, first and foremost a business!
Yvonne and Maurice
Hi Zenyatta. Your pictures with the babies are just beautiful. What an angel you are, adored by all that set eyes on you. I am also so upset about Blind Luck. She was supposed to continue racing next year. What happened? Jerry H. states that she is physically o.k., why not just rest her for the rest of the year and then continue to race her next year or breed her. This is going to be very upsetting to find out who will buy her and she is being listed as a racing/brookmare. OMG, I would hate to see someone else race her, definitely do not want to see her get hurt. I just cannot believe this – I also thought she was loved by her owner/trainer!!! Love you Zenyatta. Stay comfy, eat well for 2 and I know you and TT and girlie talking about what to wear and say at your Breeder’s Cup Party. Love you, Angel in Disguise.

Dear Abigail in Montreal:
Thank you so very much for the wonderful photos of my favorite Stallions. I love Bernie and a close second is Lonhro. He’s just gorgeous. I also think Street Cry and Street Sense are very, very handsome. Also, that’s a beautiful photo of Black Caviar. Hugs, JB
