Good Morning,
I wanted to share something FUN that is happening tomorrow, October 7th, at Santa Anita. They are having PHOTOGRAPHY DAY! It all starts tomorrow morning at 7:30 a.m. / Clockers’ Corner. Santa Anita is offering all of the fans a chance to really participate in photographing the different areas of the grounds as well as the day’s racing events.
For $20, a fan can attend the all day event. It starts early with the opportunity to take photos of the horses while they are training during workouts. This is followed by a late breakfast at Clockers’ Corner and a Q & A session with members of the Benoit group who are the Official Photographers for all of the Southern California Racing Circuit, a trainer, and some members of management.
The trainer who was asked to guest this year is MY JOHN. As many of you may know, photography is one of My John’s favorite hobbies. HE ABSOLUTELY LOVES TO TAKE PICTURES. He will be there to answer all types of questions with his NIKKON CAMERA in hand. As a matter of fact, just last night he was commenting that without a doubt “ZENYATTA was one of his best subjects”. (BLUSH, BLUSH)
After this, the fans will be given a PRESS CREDENTIAL and race track access for the day of racing. They will be able to go into the paddock, winner’s circle, and other parts of the grounds via this special pass. For someone who really enjoys taking pictures, you could not have a more beautiful setting than Santa Anita. The Foothill Mountains provide such a breath-taking backdrop for one of the most amazing racing settings in all of our sport.
If you have the time and live close by…what a great way to spend the day!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

We’ll be there! Tickets were bought weeks ago! We went to the first photographers day back in March and what a great time we had! James & I were even allowed in the winners circle for the first race! That was really something! John told us on Saturday that he was one of the guest speakers and they couldn’t have asked anyone better! He always takes great pictures! We are so looking forward to it! Perhaps I can send Dottie some pictures that I take tomorrow??

Have a wonderful day Zenyatta and baby “Z/B”! xoxoxox

@Kari Bussell: Judy Berube is very active with us on the Equi-Army-NDO site and steering committee. She is not only fine, but her awesome self. She is our chief researcher – sound familiar? – always finding links to things we need almost instantly. How she do dat?
Hope you are feeling good and are excited about your upcoming trek to the BIG Z PARTY! I want to send you your name tag! Please let me know where diastu46@gmail.com

Things like this really make me want to leave NH, but for now I guess I’ll have to be content with taking pictures of my Thoroughbred at home when I’m home from college.

@signofthetimes: Happy Birthday to most-deserving YOU! Hope the next week or two brings you the gift you really want!
@DJ: Nice to see morning prayers. For this evening, I suggest a vegetarian Cobb salad with whatever fluid melds well. :-)

What a contrast! Sophie, you are in good company. Named Horse of the Year twice, John Henry won over 6.5 million. I hope you are kinder to your feed and water bowls. As a colt, John Henry had a habit of tearing his steel water and feed buckets from the stall wall and stomping them flat. This reminded his then-owners of the “Steeldrivin’ Man”. Well, Sophia have a great day at Santa Anita.

Wow, sure sounds great and exciting for the day tomorrow at Santa Anita, sure wish’d that I didn’t live way out here in Missouri. I am sure it is going to be an absolutely wonderful time for everyone and it is great that John Shirreffs is going to be the trainer that gets the honors of answering everyone’s questions and inquiries. He is a super trainer and all around person and is so knwledgeable. He also is such a humble and gentle like soul-such a kind and likeable spirit indeed. No wonder you turned out so well, with a person such as John in your every day life for so long, how could you not turn out as wonderful as you have.
And just adore that little Sophie, the pic of her with John Henry is priceless.
Love you lots Zenyatta and thanks for continuing to be my inspiration-you always sparkle and shine brighter than any star up above! Sending you my Love & Blessings with lots of hugs too!

Oh, I so wish this were happening next Friday when I will be in visiting LA. Sounds like so much fun!

Catching up on the posts. @Trina Nagele, Susan in TN, Brenda S, Barabra Wood and Debbie G-Thanks for your kind words about my friend. He has COPD, and the operation he had helps with the quality of his life. The best way I can explain it that his brain is no longer receiving the signal that he has the disease and he will be able to function as he once did for a while.@Rosemary McCauley-You are right, it IS up to me to name the Roman ruler. I nominate Nero, who was about as redneck as any of those guys ever got. @Barbra Grimaldi and Sharon Call-Rick Dutrow has been a problem for a long time. Unfortunately, he keeps on getting top horses to train. Go figure. He was well aware of those medications at the time he gave that interview. Just his sense of humor, sort of luck a rubber crutch. It used to be a handicapping angle that 80% of races were won by horse who had run within the past 15 days. Horses are much different now due to breeding. The old timers like Man O’War raced quite often, sometime twice in a week. You might try following the racing patterns of Barry Abrams if you are interested in a trainer who runs his horses often with success. I would be interested in reading an interview with him. @JAG-Thanks for the link to the petition. @Cynthia H-You’re welcome. I agree with your assessment of Kari. @signofthetimes-Happy birthday! @Vicki B-Why is it when I ask a simple question people are happy when I get a redneck response. LOL. As you are aware, January 27 is the big day for the club. @Kari Bussell-There is a scene at the end of The Shootist, John Wayne’s last film, in which he is riding on a horse drawn street car on his way to the climatic gunfight. A young girl is on the street car with him. Anybody familiar with the film, doesn’t Kari remind you of her? @Susan in Tn and Kari Bussell-You might be a redneck if your local paper has a front page feature called “Cow of the Week.” You might be a redneck if there are four pairs of pants and three squirrels hanging from your clothesline. You might be a redneck if the cockroaches leave you a note saying “clean this place up.” You might be a redneck if looking at you reminds people of reruns of He Haw. Here is today’s joke–There were three men sitting in the waiting room of the hospital. A nurse walked in and said “Mr. Smith? Congratulations sir. You are the father of twins.” The man replied, “How about that, I work for the Doublemint Chewing Gum Company.” The man then followed the nurse to his wife’s room. About an hour later, the same nurse entered the waiting room and announced that Mr. Jones’ wife has just had triplets. Mr. Jones stood up and said, “Well, how do you like that. I work for the 3M Company.” The last man got up and started to leave. When the nurse asked him why he was leaving, he said “I think I need a breath of fresh air. I work for 7-Up.”

Re: Indian Tale and Rick Dutrow
Maybe the answer is to let the track know that fans are watching this situation? Remember the huge issue that came about when Life at 10 was not scratched? Does a steward or vet want to be in that position? Just saying…

Zenny- what a great day tomorrow will be! They couldn’t have found anyone better than Your/Our John! He has brought so much enjoyment to all of us through his photographs. That picture of John Henry and Sophie is SO funny! She really is at home anywhere, isn’t she? Wish I could be there- actually, I wish my daughter could be there. Her hobby is photography, too, and she would love to have that opportunity, I’m sure. She takes a lot of photos of her patients (with owners’ permission) and sends them copies. Hope you and TT are having a stupendous day! Love you <3

@Terry Crow: So glad there is something they could do to improve Don’s quality of life. My mother had COPD and it is tough.
On a lighter note, loved the jokes! ALSO- finally really watched “Let It Ride” and loved it! No let down at all- the characters were great and I’m sure very recognizable if you were a track-goer!
@Kendra: I never knew how John Henry got his name- great story!
